Hotel Indigo - Cardiff by IHG

The hotel should have advised us in advance that the lift was broken and given us a free cancellation option to stay elsewhere. Our room was on the 5th floor, the restaurant on the 6th. The main lift was broken, so we had to go out the hotel, down the Arcade and use another lift to the 4th floor. Then it was along various corridors and up the stairs to our room. There was no hot water to the sink in the ensuite and the hotel replied to that message 13hrs later to state the maintenance team didn't work weekends. On our last morning, we ordered coffee at breakfast and in the time it took to eat cereal, drink juice, toast bread and eat a cooked breakfast the coffee had not arrived - that was despite asking 3 different staff a total of 4 times. To be honest, we'd have probably had a better experience at Travelodge. We had considered eating in the 6th floor restaurant "with stunning views over the Cardiff skyline" but there aren't any views, there aren't any dining tables within 15 feet of any window. Basically, this hotel is lost and needs a complete shakeup. They could also remote the references to the old Pierre-White branded restaurant on the TVs too.

The hotel was located in the centre of cardiff. The hotel was very nice inside but the lift to get to the breakfast in the morning and the roof top bar wasn't working and we have mobility issues and found it very hard to get to the top 2 floors this is the only problem we had with the hotel so i cant see us coming back

No communication about reduced parking rates at nearby NCP until check-in, which was obviously too late! Certain areas looked a little tired and lifts were out of order, which isn't ideal when bar and restaurant are on the top floor. Staff were very friendly, room was nice, bathroom was great!

Clean room, staff were really helpful. Parking is only a 2 minute walk away, very easy to pay for with discount code from the hotel.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a great dinner in the restaurant and the staff were excellent! Very quiet and comfortable room with lots of amenities.

Had a lovely stay here, very centrally located in the shopping area. Comfortable good size room plus breakfast was really nice. Only downside is that there is only one lift for both staff and guests so you can end up waiting a while for it!

A nice modern IHG hotel. Interesting location which is off the Main Street (pedestrianised) and in an old shopping arcade. You need to park in the Greyfriars NCP car park which is 5 minute walk away which is around £18 a day. This is next to stadium so you can see why but it is expensive to park. Hotel and staff were super friendly and dinner and breakfast was good and decent value in terms of costs. There is an outdoor area on the bar on 6th floor which I can imagine would be nice when the weather is good. Rooms are quite nicely decorated and bathrooms are nice too. Overall a good experience and would probably come back but maybe check to see if other options too. There are lots of hotels in this area to consider.

Great location for restaurants & the Utilita arena, lovely rooftop bar for relaxing drink at the end of the evening

The room was clean well themed and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Then to top it all the little gym was perfect

Hotel entrance is through a dingy back street. Blink and you miss it, if like me you drive directly to the hotel and it says you’ve arrived. The young man was very helpful when I called to ask for a car park. No parking so you have to use the NCP parking around the corner, which is only a few minutes walk away. Nice room and lovely large bathroom. The mini bar was complimentary. Rooftop bar is very tiny only two tables outside.

We loved our stay at Hotel Indigo. The staff were very helpful and friendly, it was centrally-located, and although parking was off-site, it was easy to access. The room was lovely, and the bed was very comfortable. Even though it was on a busy pedestrian street, the room was quiet.

The room conditions is fair only. Duvet with yellow stain. Shower drainage is blocked. It takes time for the water to drain out. The toilet seat is very old. Glad for air conditioning and relatively spacious for my premium room. It is walkable to restaurants, shops and castle.

The hotel itself is very comfortable and located in the heart of Cardiff! The room was well equipped with excellent toiletries and a great shower! I found a very dirty wine glass left in the room and stained mattress cover by the pillow. Some other corners in the room were in need of a wipe. Stained towels in the room are not acceptable! I wasnt impressed by the previous however it was one night it did the job!

Rooms werent the cleanist (found a used fake eyelash on the floor and general dirt) window was broken and room generally looked tired. Staff were good and breakfast was good.

Check in was very fsst and the staff on reception were exceptional. We went to our room and were very happy. We had one minor problem - water would not drain from the bathroom basin but after a call to reception, this was sorted out immediately. One other small issue was regarding cleanliness, there is a mirror on the wall which has a decorative leather strap. This strap had thick dust on the top half of it. Other than that, the room was very clean. After a night out on the town we returned to a very cool room and had a very comfortable night's sleep. Breakfast was good but not exceptional.

The hotel is located in an arcade with some curious art work on the walls. It was quite difficult to spot when negotiating the roads with sat nav and with taxis zooming in and out. We were disappointed with parking - £14 after discount for 3 hrs. The first room we were given was a nice room but no view. It had frosted glass and had a king size bed. I washed my hands. The water would not go down the sink and all black bits came out of the plug hole. I removed the plug to see if I could clear the problem the plug hole was totally blocked with gunge. Disgusting. I called reception they could not sort the sink but we could move rooms. We were then offered a much smaller room with a double bed. We have IHG membership which states upgrades etc. available. I asked if there was a possibility of a room with a kingsize bed - the same as the first one - no but we were offered another room which was virtually the same as the second room. Neither room had views of anything other than other bedrooms. The sink worked so we stayed in this room. The shower etc. had small black mould patches growing on parts around it. Considering that the hotel was in the middle of Cardiff, it was very quiet, which was good - probably because the window just backed on to other rooms. The breakfast buffet was good and other items such a poached eggs could be requested. We were not told that there was free on street parking between 8 pm on Saturday evening and 10 am just a short distance away.

Absolutely fantastic stay once again. Everything was spot on. Staff are extremely friendly. Room spacious and spotless.

Air con, big bed, decent curtains

The mattress needs to be changed very soft. Ended with a terrible night sleep plus a bad back. But staff and room was excellent.

Very easy and friendly check-in Room spacious comfortable and spotless Wifi a little hit and miss but otherwise a great location and the little quirks make it stand out .. a rocking chair in my room, the view of colourful deckchairs on what could just be a boring outlook .. nicely thought out …

The room was very good, bathroom was in good shape.

The directions to the hotel were useless, and the picture is misleading. For anyone walking, it's impossible to recognise the hotel from this picture. It took me 20 minutes of walking around in the dark in poor weather to find the rear entrance to the arcade that the hotel is in. Please change the welcome email to say that the arcade is opposite Boots and between Monmouthshire Building Society and Hays Travel. Then I had problems with the electricity in my room which stopped working TWICE which was inconvenient. The hotel team did sort me out with a different room but they also admitted that my first room was known to have electrical problems - that's not good enough, having electricity is a basic requirement in a hotel room in 2025.

The room was lovely, staff were friendly but the rooms are not very well sound proofed snd the windows did nothing to keep the outside noie out. We were kept awake by homeless ppl outside playing music until the early hours, and then woken by the binmen at 7am. Shame because the hotel was lovely amd well situated. Staff were warm welcoming and very informative

Staff were lovely and breakfast had great variety. The fridge in our room was warm which was disappointing as it was one of the reasons we chose to stay in this hotel. Also experienced a strange knocking noise from the air conditioning unit throughout the night despite it being off which impacted sleep quality.

Room is big and modern but the mattress and pillows are not great.2 our of 5 stars for the pillow and mattress. Would have rated 4 or 5 stars if the mattress and pillows were better.

Second time we stayed here. It’s fine for one night. It’s very central but very quiet. The best thing is the shower. There is a silly rocking chair in the corner which means if you both want to sit down one has to perch on the bed which is very high. Chuck out the rocking chair and get a cool sofa instead. The windows are greyed out and don’t open, which is weird because you can’t see what the weather is like outside to decide what to wear. Also feels a bit scary like being in a sealed box.

Lovely room, bathroom especially nice, only downside the large window was covered in plastic film, had to ask a friend in another room what the weather was like! Receptionist on arrival could have been more welcoming

We stayed in the Indigo for a couple of days for a little getaway. It was extremely convenient and served our needs very well. The staff were extremely helpful and we would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Cardiff.

Decent location for a city break, but a pain for parking (the NCP round the corner is tight, old and smelly with some very unsavoury types inside the open security door). The room was comfortable and clean with a decent bathroom - the shower was really good. View from the window of a brick wall and lots of plumbing. The aircon unit didn't work despite our best efforts overnight so we were roasting. Mentioned it on check-out and the person on reception couldn't give a stuff. All in all, it was ok, but for the same money there are other hotels worth checking out. We'll likely use the Hilton a few hundred yards away next time.

We stayed during one of the home matches of the Six Nations Rugby and were very impressed with how well the hotel coped with being completely full. In particular breakfast was very well organised, service was rapid but never rushed, and was excellent.

Requested 2 extra pillows initially through a request on Expedia and then at reception. As our last stay at indigo the pillows were a little worse for wear. When I came to reception yesterday, the receptionist firstly didn’t receive the request and then shut me down immediately by saying no one but myself is here today and I can’t leave reception to get you pillows rather abruptly. Explained I would really need them for neck support she continued to repeat again and annoyed then proceeded to open cupboards and a door and said there’s nothing here and said I can’t leave the desk no one’s here but herself. The pillows were indeed as last time ball like clumps and not fit for purpose. We both have tried to sleep by evening using the duvet for support in order to sleep but had a rough uncomfortable night. We have a four hour journey and lack of sleep and neck stiffness is not ideal at all which could have been resolved by adding just two pillows requested. Shame love the hotel but will have to revert to our usual hotel in the future of our regular visits to Cardiff

Very impressed with this hotel. Georgia on reception was very friendly & helpful. Loved the decor throughout the hotel. Room was spotless and enjoyed the buffet breakfast.

Receptionists and Nausheen at breakfast was amazing. Staff cannot do enough for you. Very kind and quick to act when needed.

Staff were friendly. Service for breakfast was slow and lost our order in the kitchen so had to wait even longer. Room was facing queen street on a low floor which was very noisy until 4am

Great centrally located hotel. The staff had great customer service and were really welcoming and helpful. We had a couple of areas of fault in our room. Once raised these were rectified almost immediately. Bar perhaps on the expensive side, however cannot fault the hotel in general. Shower was powerful and the bed was really comfortable . I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Callum on reception was amazing. So friendly and so helpful, even when it was busy and customers were complaining. He remained professional and a credit to the hotel.

The Staff was very helpful and pleasant. Easy to talk to. The location was a hard one to find and we had to park our car quite a distance away but can't do much about that. We did enjoy the location to much of the town. The Hotel itself was very clean and well run. The area around it we weren't as comfortable with.

It wasn’t easy to find the hotel whose entrance was inside a small shopping mall/retail space. However, there was a small stand up “Indigo” sign just outside the entrance to the building. The elevator to my section of the building was outside the reception area, past some retail businesses, and in a separate part of the mall from the main hotel rooms and restaurant. The 6th floor restaurant had a nice view and a good breakfast.

I told the hotel I am disabled and asked about access. I was told there was an NCP car park ‘right next door’. After driving around for at least an hour and even consulting a police officer, there was no way I could access the hotel in my car. Neither me or my party of 2 visitors from NZ were able to stay and had to find other accommodation. I am in contact directly with the hotel to discuss this matter. Nothing in any of the emails suggested that Access was limited to those without disabilities. I am very disappointed.

We went for a concert at Cardiff Castle which is a leisurely 5 minute walk from the hotel.

We did not get to see the inside of the hotel, as we could not access the hotel. it was too far to walk and although I had asked for an accessable room, it appears that the instructions I had to 'park in the NCP car ark next to the hotel', noone had told me that the access was impossible to park. Even with the help of a police officer, I could not find an accessible entrance. In the circumstances I would like the hotel to refund the cost of two rooms, one in the name of my cousin, Vanessa Simpson and one in my name. To say I am disappointed is an understatement since this was an opportunity for them to see the city, having come on a trip from New Zealand. Angela

Great location right in the city centre. Very nice hotel with lovely room and comfy bed. Fab breakfast with lots of choice. Only slight downside was as situated in town centre, the noise was the nightclub nearby was pretty loud until 3am Saturday night/Sunday morning,

The hotel is in a fantastic location right in the heart of Cardiff. The staff our lovely from the reception staff to the bar and restaurant staff, everyone was so helpful and kind. Breakfast was top notch and the hotel has an amazing view of the city.

Friendly and informative greeting by receptionist on duty. Lovely upgrade of free mini bar and a drinks voucher for the main bar. Room was spotless. Varied selection of coffee and tea in our room with a coffee maker. Bar colleague gave a warm friendly welcome again it was spotless. Breakfast again warm and friendly greeting and shown to our seats. Menu full and varied options hot and cold. Overall no faults found and staff were all lovely . In an ideal central location.Would definitely stay here again .

Great staff as always, have stayed here about 13 times over the last 6 yrs and the staff are always lovely and friendly. I have noticed this last yr or so that the breakfast has gone downhill drastically. It has changed to self service now and I think the breakfast crew are unstaffed. The last couple of times we have stayed we noticed items running out and not being topped up, the scrambled eggs were terrible and the sausages used to be real quality sausages but not anymore. We have started staying elsewhere now but do come back every now and again to see if things have improved, sadly not yet.

Most things were fine except the most important factor, the bed. We have never stayed in a hotel where there was no matress, only a box spring. It was very uncomfortable. The worker at the front desk had no idea what a box spring was. The breakfast, while extensive was not hot and over cooked. It was as though it was prepared for when the opened and sat around for an hour or more. It had a great selection, but it was luke warm. For the price point, we expected more.

My wife and I stayed overnight for a show in the city. The staff were friendly and the room was specious and clean. The breakfast options were excellent, including many vegan options.

Comfortable bed, great shower and a nice quiet room as requested! Staff were great at breakfast and in the hotel bar and the breakfast selection was great!

The hotel is beautiful, staff are lovely and friendly, as a coeliac I was really impressed with the gluten free breakfast choices, especially the home made croissants. Our room was lovely, the bathroom was stunning and the shower amazing, the only let down for us was the bed, the mattress was so hard, it was like sleeping on concrete, both my husband and I woke up aching all over.
