Opulence Central London

Terrible experience, room was exceptionally hot and no way of turning off the radiator. We asked staffed and they said they would fix it, got back after our evening out and nothing had changed. Complained again to be told there’s nothing they could do. The rooms window wouldn’t stay open so they provided us with a fan. I’m fighting for a refund.

No lift . Hard to carry bags upstairs.

The hotel is in a great neighborhood. However, there are no elevators. I had to go up and down 4 flight of narrow stairs going in or out of my room. When I arrived there the reception of empty. There was no note on the counter, and no one around!! I had to wait for at least 15 minutes for someone to show up! This was in the middle of the day. Room has no air conditioning, and the window would not stay up for long and it would randomly slide down with a loud noise. The bathroom was very small, the bathroom sink old and very low. I selected this hotel because it was rated at 9.0 on Expedia!!! Definitely a wrong rating.

My stay here was so poor that I checked out early. The room was not as advertised - in particular, I lacked access to laundry facilities and a desk, which were the amenities listed that I most needed. The "desk" provided was a small table without enough room for a laptop that was placed in a corner and used to store the kettle, fan, and space heater. There was also no chair which might fit at the desk, and so even if I moved everything and pulled the desk out to a useable position I could not sit there. Furthermore, the facilities were lacking. My sink faucets were tempermental. The bathroom lights flickered for several seconds after being turned on. The showerhead was placed very low, and I would wonder how anyone taller than me (165cm) would use it. The furniture was broken in several places, and some public areas of the hotel were obviously being used for storage. The area is also very noisy. Service was poor from check-in onwards. I did not see the front desk staffed at any point in the day, and so one had to ring a bell and wait several minutes for service. I had a very confusing interaction with the employee who checked me in because he was indistinguishable from any other guest. On the day I left, there was a new digital sign that advised guests to call for service. But this did not seem to match the 24 hour desk service described. There were only two positive points: the bed was quite comfortable, and the housekeeping staff did a decent job.

Very quaint hotel, loved the room and the view. The only downfall was no lift.

Poorly maintained property needs renovation. Peeling wallpaper. Faulty blinds in the room. Stopped in room 8. Internal double glazing fitted but 1 peice of glass missing so high road noise if you a light sleeper be aware. Good location in central London shopping areas that’s it’s only positive in afraid. Wouldn’t recommend or stop there again.

The staff was exceptional. But the hotel is run down, there aren’t any elevators, and we stayed on the 4th (top) floor. We had family on floor two and three, and there wasn’t hot water for showers. It’s a great location, and it’s an old, unique hotel. It just needs some tlc.

We were out until 8pm so at the desks we were assured that we would get a new key on our return, which was true but it failed to work on the following day. Lady at reception told us that her master key was at home and husband was bringing it in, 30-40 minutes. Not good enough as we were looking to grab our luggage and go sightseeing, which had to be cancelled. The room was small and a bit tired to say the least. The cold tap did not work and I was scared to undo as it was going to come off. The shower head in the bath leaked from everywhere and was therefore a bit lacking in pressure. The larger of the fans in the room did not work and as there was no air-con, this made it uncomfortable on a night at 18c. Fortunately the bed was comfy and I slept pretty well. Altogether a very bad experience but wanted to try an independent hotel for a change. Sadly, we will be going back to Premiers and Hiltons from now on.

Ok location. Very friendly receptionist. Hotel rooms very tired. Room 14 Loose or no shower hose holder. Room 10 bathroom shelve missing but brackets left. Screws in walls where once picture was, loose bath tap, a raised tiled bit in middle of floor which is a trip hazard. No curtains but an ill fitted roller blind. Remnent of 2nd glazing left on windows. No tea bags. Room full of too much unnecessary furniture. Floor tiles outside room grubby and stained.

Disappointing!Very noisy,not clean enough and the room quite expensive .

The property was dusted, construction work while opened, no staff when checking in, had to wait almost 1 hour before someone showed up. The construction guy had to call the staff to show up. The room was dusted. When I tried talking to the front desk about inconvenience, the guy started defending himself and insulting us. So we just left

The hotel is just very rundown and unclean, rooms have a load of dust every where even on places you’d think they’d clean. Unfortunately it was a bit of a let down but the location is easy to get around from along with a nice member of staff at reception, I would however say that if your looking for a peaceful nights sleep this may not be for you. Loads and loads of stains everywhere, not a properly working shower, missing light bulbs etc. Sorry but not the best experience.

The room we stayed in was poor. The bathroom was dirty, full of mould and the toilet was hanging off the wall. The bath panel was cracked and there was dirty carpet on the floor by the toilet that smelt of urine. The room was covered in dust. Paint flaking off the walls and ceiling. The fridge was filthy and smelt terrible. When I bought these issues so with staff they blamed the cleaner. The room was not clean but also not maintained. Terrible stay.

I was really disappointed with our stay. The hotel is entitled Opulence and has 4 stars. The reality is anything but and have no idea how it gained this award. There are far better hotels for the same price which offer better facilities and comfort

For the price paid and the location this was perfect. Walls are thin though, so I recommend taking ear plugs, so that you don’t have to listen to people talking until 3am. Reception very friendly. My room was on the top floor - which was hard work, but doable.

Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the hotel itself appeared grand with large pictures, mirrors and ornaments however the furniture and bathroom in particular were in need of an upgrade.

Reception was unattended in a regular basis. The mattress had definitely seen better days, and that’s frankly the main reason why I wrote this review. I’d otherwise recommend this hotel as a relatively affordable one, but the bed …

It’s a budget hotel in London and you get what you pay for. It’s better than sleeping rough. Very noisy doors slamming all the time. No sound-proofing between floors so could hear the person above getting in and out of bed. Very hot and and the sash windows did have a weight on them so I had to wedge it open. I have stayed in worse. The telly worked. The towels were clean but incredibly stiff / hard. They seemed to provide Molton Brown toiletries which was a nice touch. The shower worked fine.

Great location, friendly easy check-in & check-out

Very nice. Just what we wanted. Caring and friendly receptionists that made sure we had everything we needed and always checked in how we were when we got back in the night. Also super close to Baker Street that brings you directly in to the city center, and to madame Tussauds and The Sherlock Holmes Museum.

Check in was 2.pm according to booking. Got there at 2pm to be told 2.30pm for check in. Got there at 2.30pm no one was there. Pressed the bell multiple times took about ten minutes to get seen too, Room ok. Check out again there was no member of staff to check out so left the room card and hoped we've been checked out.

I booked to stay at this property and paid. The booking was accepted, when I arrived I had to call a number and was told someone would be with me in 5 minutes. We waited, I was then told the price I paid was not right even though it was advertised and paid for all on Expedia. I was told I would have to pay an additional £95, it was late and we were tired. Having already paid a fee, I was left little choice but to pay an extra £95! This is totally unacceptable.

As a single girl traveller, this hotel took so good care of me. I couldn’t pick a better place! Thank you.

My Room was cozy and beautiful. More than enough for me. I liked the area and the staff was always kind and helpful. I truly recommend this hotel.

Had to wait for a good 5 mins for someone to come and check me in - i dinged the bell a few times and then also called them. Eventually someone came, who was very nice, but it was late at night i was keen to get checked in asap.

The person who was in reception upon arrival was so kind and accommodating. He was very responsive to all requests and thanks to the location, it was extremely convenient to be able to walk to camden market and other places, if you don’t mind a half hour walk which I don’t, really.

The hotel was dated but service and location were great. One thing I would change would be better windows double glazing would be a huge benefit.

After reading some of the negative reviews I was concerned but we arrived early and they said if we could wait 30 minutes our room would be ready and it was,everything about this hotel was good,we went to BST in Hyde park and was happy with the short walk back to the hotel.ideally situated for these events,on return the reception staff asked if we had enjoyed the concert and wished us good night,the room was very hot as we were on the 3rd floor but we opened the windows and had a good nights sleep.We walked the short walk back to Baker Street station and travelled back to the midlands,we found this hotel value for money and would use again
