Pros The reception and bar staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We paid a little extra for a sea-view room, which offered a wonderful outlook over the bay and esplanade. We tried the daily chef’s special twice; at $25 per person it was excellent value. The sirloin steak in particular was beautifully tender and flavourful, complemented by a $6 happy-hour cocktail or beer between 4–6pm. The guest laundry on several floors was also very convenient for long-term travellers. Cons With newer 5-star resorts along the esplanade—such as the immaculate Crystalbrook Riley—the hotel’s urgent need for a full refurbishment becomes even more apparent. Scuffed doors, worn carpets, and tired décor are visible throughout. On one morning we were woken at 6:30am by loud hammering and drilling, and staff were unable to explain the disturbance. The outdoor pool area, though spacious, was disappointing. Across our five-night stay,there were no cushions or pads on the loungers, making them uncomfortable for more than a short sit. There were also no umbrellas or shaded areas, which is essential under the strong Cairns sun. The wooden decking and surrounding areas were soiled with bird droppings and debris, and the pool itself contained leaves and corroded fixtures, giving the impression of a neglected facility. We ultimately chose not to use it at all. I would encourage travellers seeking a higher-quality experience to consider alternatives where all facilities can be enjoyed.

The Staff are great and the location is good. Nightly happy hour seemed very popular. The hotel is looking quite tired. The decking around the pool has been neglected. Certainly in need of an upgrade.

Nice location at the start of the main esplanade on the western side. Breakfast was lackluster but ordered dinner was decent. Lifts don't tell you which level the doors are opening on (caused many people to ask each other which level is this each time the doors opened). Gym is permanently closed and has no equipment inside (unlike the Google photos which shows a gym). Comfortable bed and nice size rooms.

During my recent stay, breakfast was quite average. Each morning, the same selection of food was available with little to no variety. While it was sufficient, there was nothing particularly memorable or exciting about the options. A bit more diversity or some fresh choices would have been appreciated to improve the overall dining experience. Cleanliness of Pool Area One of the main issues I noticed was the lack of cleanliness around the pool areas. Over the course of four days, the surroundings were not maintained at all. Bird droppings and fallen palm tree branches remained scattered around the premises, detracting from the enjoyment and comfort of the outdoor facilities. Regular cleaning and attention to these details would go a long way in enhancing guest satisfaction. Overall Impression While the accommodation provided the basics, the repetitive breakfast and unkempt pool surroundings left much to be desired. Great location with ocean view and only 5-10min walking distance to the Esplanade. Handy to restaurants, caffes, shops. Large pool well kept and maintained and is a welcome relief on a hot and humid day. Room very clean and spacious for a couple with a very comfortable bed. Shower facility modern and clean also. Buffet breakfast is great with a good selection of hot food, and fresh salad bar, coffee and juices. Service from all staff is excellent and are always smiling, however it could do with an extra staff during busy hr in the bar. Building could do with a fresh coat of paint, tennis court almost seeing the end of its use by date and it looks tatty. Garden hedge out the back which is just outside of the lower ground rooms that over looks the tennis courts is over-grown and it looks like no one cares. It needs mowing and proper maintenance. Not a good sight for anyone staying in those rooms to open up the curtain to see an over grown hedge and grass. Its only a small area to look after. Needs a shuttle bus service to and from the airport and to other main attractions near by. Only one lift in operation at the time we stayed. Over all definitely recommend it and will stay here again.

An old and tired hotel desperately needing an update. The bathroom fittings barely cling to the walls, the bath itself had what appear to be mould around some tiles. The pool deck paint has lifted everywhere and trying to find a pool lounge not covered in bird poo was a challenge. any positives? The sea view was great but be sure paid for that, and we visited the bar twice and the guy was fantastic!

Unfortunately this accomodation really was the only dissspointing part of our holiday. Cairns is a amazing place we absolutely loved our time in Cairns but the accomodation was definitely not what we hoped for. From the condition of the room with what looked like vomit all down the wall in bathroom mould all through the shower grout 1 face cloth for 2 people and no towels at all after room servicing and some of there cleaning cloths left in room they really need to look at training their staff. The decor and carpets are all very tired. Bed was so soft and 2 pillows that were as flat as pancakes. Sadly this is not a gd reflection on Rydges as a hotel brand I definitely would not stay here again.

Unfortunately, our one night stay before a flight from Cairns didn’t meet expectations. While the staff were friendly and efficient at check in, the hotel and rooms have seen better days and are quite tired. We had booked a family room which had small bunks for the kids. While these beds worked well, unfortunately both of them had dirty sheets (stains), requiring a call to reception to get them changed when we got back from dinner and pulled back the sheets. They did change the sheets, but we didn’t get an explanation or real apology.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The room was clean and well presented with a balcony. Staff were plesent. Walkable to the beach within a few minutes. There are warning signs on the beach that there are crocodiles. NO walking on the beach and NO swiming. (No i'm not joking)

Online check in was convenient. I did have to argue about my silver rewards which was a parking credit… they had no idea at the desk… so I showed them the booking on my phone and they ensured my parking was complimentary… however, do to pressure washing I was unable to use the car park for 2 of the 3 nights I was there. The first room had no kettle, cups, spoons etc… flickering lights in the kitchenette… They were happy to move me but then told me I could only move there for 1 night and then would have to move again… eventually we found a room… however the bathroom had mould (pictured) and the kettle wouldn’t turn off… it felt unsafe to use. I made these things known but nothing happened… I just gave up in the end. The place is literally falling apart, it is in bad need of updating… there certainly wasn’t value for money, I have experienced way better at much cheaper locations… I won’t be back and I wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone who values cleanliness and the amenities you pay for actually working properly. Staff were nice, but seriously up against a property that does not meet the brief for what it says it is… have really low expectations if you decide to stay there.

I did have to argue about my silver rewards which was a parking credit… they had no idea at the desk… so I showed them the booking on my phone and they ensured my parking was complimentary… however, do to pressure washing I was unable to use the car park for 2 of the 3 nights I was there. The first room had no kettle, cups, spoons etc… flickering lights in the kitchenette… They were happy to move me but then told me I could only move there for 1 night and then would have to move again… eventually we found a room… however the bathroom had mould (pictured) and the kettle wouldn’t turn off… it felt unsafe to use. I made these things known but nothing happened… I just gave up in the end. The place is literally falling apart, it is in bad need of updating… there certainly wasn’t value for money, I have experienced way better at much cheaper locations… I won’t be back and I wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone who values cleanliness and the amenities you pay for actually working properly. Staff were nice, but seriously up against a property that does not meet the brief for what it says it is… have really low expectations if you decide to stay there.

Close to everything with a short walk along the esplanade. The only issue was the room was a bit run down, the room definitely needed upgrading. Also when I turned the fan in the room it would trip all the power in the room.

Our check in was 2pm. At 6pm they told us that we couldn’t check in until 8pm… they spent Two hours trying to find us another hotel. I’m really disappointed. It was my nieces 21st party and we missed the food and the start of the party. I got offered breakfast but wasn’t told it closed early

The staff were an absolute pleasure. They were friendly, helpful and prompt with all of our needs. The restaurant was reasonably priced and the food was excellent. Located about a 15 minute walk from the centre of town (Esplanade) did not pose any problems either.

Well maintained hotel and easy to get to the city central. We were not initially allowed rooms next to each other, although was requested when booking. However, Brian at the reception was very nice to accommodate the our rooms on the same level and made our stay enjoyable. The restaurant and Bar was great. The person serving at the bar was very friendly and made some amazing drinks for us!

It was a nice experience staying at Rydges Esplanade Resort Cairns. Good city location, everything nearby. I also bought paid parking for $15 per night, and it was smooth as. They also have $10 credit that you can use at the restaurant on food or beverage if you choose not to use room-service. There was a little misunderstanding at the time of checking-in, but Gigi and Evelyn were helpful at the time of checking out and sorted things out.

Great location with ocean view and only 5-10min walking distance to the Esplanade. Handy to restaurants, caffes, shops. Large pool well kept and maintained and is a welcome relief on a hot and humid day. Room very clean and spacious for a couple with a very comfortable bed. Shower facility modern and clean also. Buffet breakfast is great with a good selection of hot food, and fresh salad bar, coffee and juices. Service from all staff is excellent and are always smiling, however it could do with an extra staff during busy hr in the bar. Building could do with a fresh coat of paint, tennis court almost seeing the end of its use by date and it looks tatty. Garden hedge out the back which is just outside of the lower ground rooms that over looks the tennis courts is over-grown and it looks like no one cares. It needs mowing and proper maintenance. Not a good sight for anyone staying in those rooms to open up the curtain to see an over grown hedge and grass. Its only a small area to look after. Needs a shuttle bus service to and from the airport and to other main attractions near by. Only one lift in operation at the time we stayed. Over all definitely recommend it and will stay here again.

We ordered 2 butter chicken it was raw..my husband went them to show raw chicken after saw that flesh raw chicken they said still safe to eat seriously? only replaced one Food was microwaved ice cold in middle of the chicken pieces and some were raw..food was yucky after one bit straight put into the bin. We tried the daily chef’s special twice; at $25 per person it was excellent value. The outdoor pool area, though spacious, was disappointing. Across our five-night stay,there were no cushions or pads on the loungers, making them uncomfortable for more than a short sit. There were also no umbrellas or shaded areas, which is essential under the strong Cairns sun. The wooden decking and surrounding areas were soiled with bird droppings and debris, and the pool itself contained leaves and corroded fixtures, giving the impression of a neglected facility. It’s a really old hotel, but they keep it exceptionally clean, the staff already friendly and the breakfast was really good. There are some cute little initiatives like if you don’t have your room cleaned every day you get $10 credit to spend in the hotel. We were basically using this as a stop for trips and excursion so $30 credit paid for all our fancy coffees in the nice barista downstairs. If you are planning to spend a lot of time around the pools, then I would say look somewhere else, but if like us you will be mainly doing trips out this is a great place to stay and the price reflects what I’ve described above.

Our room was tired but clean, would love an information book of time's for breakfast etc, no phone to ring for information. Check in we had the best ever lady help us, was so friendly and helpful. We went ti the bar twice and not enough staff, long waits as they where also working in restaurant. Breakfast was plentiful...great selection ..but no cutlery...asked a staff member and was told clean tables have cutlery....there wasnt any and we had to scrounge a knife and fork and same answer given to next few visitors...just get cutlery out
