Modern hotel, located in a good position for the City, the bar restaurant was closed, so had to walk down to larger Sister hotel situated 5 mins away, the swimming pool is also located at this separate hotel. I was unaware that the hotel offered its own parking, until I arrived, which was too late as I’d parked 10 mins away at an NCP car park, which turned out to be very expensive! This hotel needs to add the car parking facility onto the Hotels.com app, so that customers are aware.

The best of both worlds, a modern hotel conveniently located in Edinburgh’s Old Town. Very walkable to major attractions. We had an air conditioned castle view room (not all rooms are air-conditioned!) with a great view, but on the weekend the Grassmarket area is really hopping until the small hours, so it can be pretty loud. Hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating, amenities are good however the restaurant was closed for part of our stay so can’t comment on that. If you are driving, there is very limited parking behind the hotel through an alleyway, we were fortunate to get a spot. We would definitely stay there again when visiting Edinburgh. Good value for money and excellent location.

Excellent value for location and amenities. About a 10 min walk from Waverley and key sites, nestled between Castle and university yet still quiet at night (I would enthusiastically recommend for families visiting the university). Room was large and had both a bath and a separate shower, as well as a fridge and kettle. Decor was fresh, good quality bedding. Pool and sauna are at larger sister hotel, but gaining access was straightforward. Reception and housekeeping staff at both hotels were absolutely lovely.

Great location. Old Town is very walkable from this hotel. There are so many restaurants, pubs and cafes in the area. The weight of that great location got me to to either 4 or 5 stars. I settled on 4 due to the AC. Ours really did not work. Every day we asked about it and were told maintenance would look at it. Then we’d be told it was checked and all was well. Then we’d get to the room and it clearly was not working. Looking at reviews online, seems this might be an ongoing problem. Parking also not great. Only have a few spots. You’re lucky to get one. If not, overflow parking available down the street at their sister hotel, which has more spots available but still not a lot.

Great stay at the Apex City of Edinburgh. The hotel is perfectly located in the Grassmarket area of the Old City, in easy (if hilly) walking distance to major attractions). The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. My only nit is that the hotel doesn't have a gym itself. You have access to the sister hotel's gym about a block away, which is quite small.

The area was fantastic, steps to dining and shopping and the hop on/off bus stop. There is a farmer's market on Saturdays (at least in the summer time) which was a lovely surprise, and a Sainsbury (grocery store) up the street. When we got there we were told that there was no a/c in the hotel- which I can understand with it being Edinburgh, however, being on the fourth floor, the room was very stuffy and the windows did not open enough to allow for good air flow. The hotel provided a desktop fan for the room, I needed a second one, which they provided without hassle. Guests of this hotel are entitled to use the pool and restaurant at their sister hotel a few steps away, but the pool is not actually in this hotel and the restaurant in this hotel is only open for breakfast, however, it looks like the space was available for use throughout the day.

Good location to all attractions. Fridge was a great amenity to have . Filtered water on each floor was excellent. Room was spacious. Lovely breakfast. Carpet had a few stains and walls a few marks.

The location of the hotel is great, but I can't say the same thing for cleanliness. The dirt flowing tiles in the bathroom, the dirty floors in the room, the lamps with cobwebs. That's not very satisfactory. They also had a ridiculously expensive breakfast. It was a very bad but expensive breakfast.

Very nice hotel. We had a super clean and spacious room, the beds were very comfortable. We loved the carafe in our room that we could fill up as needed, lovely little Scottish biscuits provided along with the usual tea and coffee. Very centrally located and friendly helpful staff. And a fabulous view of Edinburgh Castle!

Please be aware that there is NO AIR CONDITIONING in the rooms. On Expedia website in the main description it was mentioned that the hotel had AC. You would assume that it means that all rooms have AC. In fact they only have a few more expensive rooms with AC. We stayed in July 2025 during a heat wave and our room (large triple room) had a small portable fan! It was not possible to stay in that room as it was a sauna. We had to pay extra to upgrade to a superior room to survive! Expedia refused to reimburse this extra expense. Other than that the hotel is very good. Breakfast is excellent and the staff is very nice and helpful.

Perfect location to all the attractions. We walked everywhere and used the tram system one day because of rain. We opted for a larger room which was very comfortable and afforded us the space to be living out of our luggage. Would highly recommend.

Everything was great! The only thing I would mention was the bed was quite firm. Everyone has different preferences, but this was verging on slightly uncomfortable. Perhaps if you’re sensitive to this, see if they have other softer mattresses available or if it’s for one night if you can make do. Thanks for everything!

The room was clean and comfortable. My b o ly complaint is that the city twin rooms do NOT have any view of the city and is misleading. What you do get is a view of the rear of buildings and parking lot which produces a lot of noise until midnight or so. There’s a huge generator noise that rubs most of the night. Light sleepers beware.

I booked a City Double Room, 1 Queen Bed. The room I got looked nothing like the pictures (it was much smaller), and was at a balmy 84ºF (29ºC) with no AC. I'm not even sure how this was possible given the outside temperature was in the 50s. There was a small portable fan that did little more than turn the room into a convection oven. The first night there were no other rooms available, but on my second night they were able to move me to a much larger room with AC, at a small additional cost. This is the only reason I'm giving this hotel a 3-star rating; otherwise it would be 1-star.

Perfect view of Edinburgh castle from my room. Comfortable, clean, high end rooms (towel warmer was a nice luxury touch!). Didn’t realize how central, close and walkable the hotel is to all the sites until I checked in. Looks over grass market, right next to Victoria street, and 5 min walk to Edinburgh castle. Only small complaint is the noise level at night in the grass market can be a little high but that’s not the fault of the hotel, just location. Will stay here again next time I’m in town!

Location was ideal. Our room was at the back so very quiet. BUT the mattress of sofa bed was thin and springy so not confortable sleep, PLUS the room was Super Warm making it very difficult to sleep!!! We opened the window but that didn’t make much of a difference!!! We were visiting mid June and it wasn’t very hot weather, just to note! Only heating available in that room no fan.

We are so grateful that we chose to take three day trips to Edinburgh and stay at this hotel while traveling from London. The hotel room was so spacious that we were afraid to return to our much smaller room in London! The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially Natalia at the front desk. She made our stay even more enjoyable and comfortable. We will definitely recommend that our friends visit Edinburgh and stay at the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel.

The Hotel is right in the center of every attraction. Everything we wanted to see in Edinburgh was within walking distance of the Apex. Rodrigo was so helpful and friendly. He took time and answered all of our questions. Top quality service!!

Very great location near Edinburgh Castle and royal mile. Dining right outside the front doors. Very clean room. Excellent bathroom. Loved the water available on draft for the floor. Eco friendly and excellent taste. I miss that water. Staff was wonderful.

Right in the center of the Grassmarket so very convenient to all the sites. Really enjoyed the location and view of Edinburgh Castle. The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I liked the atmosphere of the area and having so many pubs close by. This will definitely be my next choice when visiting Edinburgh again.

Hotel was in a perfect location to everything we wanted to do within walking distance. Stairs to castle basically across the street, Cafe a few doors down, and bars across the street. This hotel location did not disappoint. Comfortable beds.

Stay ruined by absolutely appalling first day breakfast experience. Compensated £33 for this which is scant consolation when the 3 night stay cost £1,075. I would have thought that at least £180 would have been fairer compensation. Lesson learned. Won’t stay in an Apex hotel again.

Ideal location for exploring Edinburgh. The bar and restaurant were both closed. Staff didnt know when/if it would open? We were advised we could use the sister hotel 100 yards down the road but it was pouring with rain.

The best of both worlds, a modern hotel conveniently located in Edinburgh’s Old Town. Very walkable to major attractions. We had an air conditioned castle view room (not all rooms are air-conditioned!) with a great view, but on the weekend the Grassmarket area is really hopping until the small hours, so it can be pretty loud. Hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating, amenities are good however the restaurant was closed for part of our stay so can’t comment on that. If you are driving, there is very limited parking behind the hotel through an alleyway, we were fortunate to get a spot. We would definitely stay there again when visiting Edinburgh. Good value for money and excellent location.

We arrived after our overnight flight from the US and asked about checking in early. The staff was very helpful and, for a nominal fee, let us check at 0800 for a quick shower and nap. The breakfast was great with the choices on the menu plus a serve yourself area with fruit, yogurts, pastries, and breads. The hotel is centrally located and about a 10 minutes or less walk to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile.

Room good, bed hard and uncomfortable, pillows uncomfortable. Breakfast service on the first day was well below that expected. The kitchen ‘lost’ our first order, which meant they had to take another order 15 minutes after our first. After another 20 minutes (our order was now presumably at the back of the kitchen queue again as people around us who ordered after were getting their breakfasts first) Then 2 out of our 3 breakfasts arrived but not our daughter’s. We weren’t able to wait again for this so she just had cereal. Second day was much better. But they offered to refund breakfast but 4 days later and we’ve not seen this yet… Pool facilities next door nice, most lockers broken in changing room though.
