Hotelstandard was east-europe level. No restaurant, no bar and no breakfast (due to renovations, which thry forgot to nention). No lounge or lobby. Wifi was slow. The rooms were clean but old school. It was like a youthhostel..

Hotel needs some updates , the temporary restaurant and bar are ugly with limited options. Rooms need coffee machines. The view from my rooms was terrible overlooking the extractors and air conditioning equipment

The location was the best! Close to shopping, food, Central Park etc. They made our stay very pleasant. The only exception was that they didn’t have a breakfast cafe. They also let us borrow a crib for the baby. Just outstanding!

Wonderful location right near Central Park, walkable to time square and surrounding touristy things. The doormen are wonderful and helpful. Only complaint was none of the ice machines in the entire building worked, the front desk sent us on a chase up and down floors to look for ice. The key card wouldn’t work on most floors so we had to use the stairs to go and find ice, in a heatwave. And never did end up getting any ice. The mini fridge in our room was stocked and warm so we weren’t even able to use those. Other than that the hotel is beautiful and well situated the rooms are larger than other hotels in the area and they had big soaker bath tubs which are a rarity in the city and lovely after a long day of walking.

The are working on the lobby and first floor of the hotel so no real restaurant and the club level amenities are in a cold drafty ball room. Definitely not appropriate for the cost of the hotel

We enjoyed our stay, the property wasn’t rated at 5 stars but I took it with a grain of salt, having stayed at JE Marriotts before and found them great! This one was below par for a JW, wasn’t as clean as it should have been. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned as well as it should have been, there was mold in the grout in the shower and the fire sprinkler head cover fell off and woke me in the middle of the night, when it landed in the tub.

I personally chose the property because of its closeness to Central Park since I am a runner. The entire staff was very kind and helpful. Most importantly the hotel and my room was very clean. The room had nice amenities, plenty of towels and comfortable beds. When I come back to New York, I will definitely return.

We were able to walk to the central park zoo and down 5th avenue to 23rd street, and back to the hotel faster than the bus or ubers were moving in traffic. Walked to Times square, saw a Broadway play and dined at columbus circle. This was the perfect place to spend a few nights. The property is very nice. Well maintained and very clean. Room service was prompt and came back with a kettle so we could make our own tea. We spent 4 nights and it was perfect.

Amazing location and very friendly staff. The hotel and rooms are very clean. However, the bedding felt stiff and not very comfortable. The pull out sofa mattress is not comfortable at all.

It was terrible. We expected that this hotel would be nice and luxurious but the room was not that much clean and the water pipe from bathroom was broken, keep running water and air conditioner was not controlled well and we have to stay in cold weather and the staff were not nice for room services. Most importantly they charge us more that we paid. They said that 45 dollars had to be paid for every single day and it was explained in the policy. But we did not see that when we booked the hotel and we might have missed it but even though we missed it they should jave explained that policy but they did not and they charged us more even the services that we did not take and did not order.

Well kept Art Deco Hotel... Clean quiet best location in midtown Manhattan Easy to go West or East Great eateries within walking distance... Magnolia bakery around the block Friendly and accomidating staff... Our room had a nice view of the city and a side view of Central Park... I would stay again and surely recommend anyone to try a stay here... This review brought to you by a born and raised Brooklyn girl who enjoyed all of NY my entire life...

The customer service was excellent. The king room was quite small and the hotel upgraded us to a much larger room with double beds on a higher floor. I would recommend booking the double rooms on a higher floor. The double rooms on the lower floors did not have much natural light.

When our cab dropped us off no one helped us with our bags so that was a bit of a shock with the price of the hotel. Check in was quick and they had our room ready early which was nice and changed my attitude. The check in associate was also very friendly. Our room had a view of the building next door which was a letdown but was large and roomy for our family of three. Beds were comfortable but would have enjoyed at least a queen not a double bed for my husband and I. Bathroom was a great size. They had complimentary bottled water in the lobby each night we returned which was nice. Overall friendly service and cozy hotel with a convenient location to lots of activities.

Great location- across from Central Park. spacious rooms, good customer service. The AC was loud. The first night we got there, we asked for extra sheets, we were told they were short staffed they would eventually bring the sheets, but no one ever came. I’d recommend if you need extra blankets, bedsheets or towels, request them early morning.

I paid for a park view room, but the room I got wasn't a head-on park view like I've had at the Park Lane. It was a partial view of the park from a side window. If they had given me one of the adjoining rooms, it would have been a much better view.

The staff was excellent!! I read reviews specifically stating that the staff was "underwhelming" and "would not accommodate" nor "care." But my experience was marvelous. Everyone from valet, checking-in/out, elevator rides, concierge, dining, the BAR, the restaurant hostess, just EVERYONE was friendly, welcoming, and eager to ensure I was having a great time at all times. They were so complimentary every time I walked through the lobby. No one ever pointed nor "man-explained" but would escort me to where I needed to. I wish the showers were glass vs curtain and the late-night menu stayed open another hour or two.

Since we arrived the hotel staff tried to upcharge everything. High floor, $100. Resort fee of $45, but they don’t have resort-type amenities. Got a late check out and they called me to ask why i was still in the room. Nobody asked if i had a pleasant stay. I’m not used to a 5 star hotel having a 3 star me persona. Actually 3 star hotels are a lot more accomplished.

Most of our stay was good. The rooms wasn't ready when we arrived. The driver that picked us up from the airport wasn't helpful at all; in fact he act as he didn't want to help at all. The rooms have a smell to them...

Services was terrible. No coffee in rooms and we went to lobby and no coffee until 7:00 AM. We subsequently went to nearby hotel and told them no coffee at Essex House. They subsequently served us coffee. At checkout the lady was on her I phone and not looking up. I subsequently got service when the manager noted this. I am a world traveler and in my opinion the Essex house has a laborer problem. We are returning to NYC at Christmas time and have booked at the Omni. On check in, we wanted something to eat and were ushered into bar area after they cleaned the table. Subsequently, we sat there for an hour with only water until a manager looking gentlemen noted us.

Good: The check-in experience was great. Need improvement: Rooms need serious upgrades. The bedding for the sofa bed was like sand paper. The breakfast menu was limited, quality was average and price was high. In general, this is not what we were expecting from a hotel like J.W. Marriot.

Property was in a great location - close to shopping, Central Park, and many restaurants. Food at the restaurant was poor. Breakfast buffet is overpriced - there are limited options and food is cold. Rooms were spacious and clean. Overall it was good, not great. Not a 5 star in my opinion.
