The best things about this hotel are the cleanliness and the comfortable beds. It advertises an on-site restaurant but we never found it open. I think it serves Indian food. I assumed with saying there was a restaurant on-site we would be able to get a morning coffee. I asked the front desk about that when we checked in but was told we had to go out to get coffee so we went to Starbucks every morning. Upon arrival, our tv was not working. We had to call the front desk for that, but they quickly fixed it. The bathroom sink was very slow to drain...not what I expected to find at this hotel. Finally, this is just my personal preference but I like staying a little closer to Fifth Avenue, which I find is a more convenient location for what we like to do.

We come to NYC every year, and though previous hotels have been fine, we thought we would try the San Carlos Hotel for a different area of Manhattan. Loved our stay. Though we didn't really use the kitchenette, it was nice to have. For mid-town, the value cannot be beaten. We'll be back. The fitness room was adequate--suggest adding 25 pound free weights.

We had a wonderful stay at the San Carlos hotel for our first trip to NYC. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the room was incredibly spacious, especially for New York, and it was cleaned every day to a high standard. It is the perfect location for exploring Manhattan, only a short walk to 5th Avenue but not too close to all the noise. Some of the decor is a little tired, but everything worked, including the much needed air con. Bobby the concierge was so helpful on our last day, arranging a car to the airport and helping us with our bags. I will definitely come back to the San Carlos hotel next time I am in NYC!

We’ve stayed here before with a good experience previously. Check in was smooth and the room was quiet (was an internal room on the 2nd floor)unlike before thus the 3 stars. We asked to switch rooms upon arrival and were told they were sold out which worked out well as the room was quiet. However things took a downturn when on our last night the largest cockroach I have ever seen was on the wall in our room (I’m not afraid of bugs usually but this mortified me). Upon checkout we reserved a car through the front desk to take us to the airport and while we were ready to leave the car was not there. We ended up taking a Uber to the airport which was fortunate that one was available. While we have enjoyed San Carlos in the past, we will NOT be returning

Friendly staff, clean comfotable room, great location close to bus and subway, excellent bagel and coffee shops within a couple blocks. Only complaint was clogged shower that didn't drain fast enough. There was 2-3 inches of water in the tub after a 5 minute shower.

While we were generally satisfied with the accommodations, we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the nook containing the coffee maker and under the beds. The shower drain was particularly slow and the water pipes from an adjacent or upper room created an obnoxious vibration whenever the occupant showered. On the other hand, the staff was extremely welcoming and polite throughout our stay. Perhaps, it was just a rare occurrence as this was our second stay there. The location is ideal because it is not busy like the other areas and still close enough for a nice walk to places of interest. I suppose we would consider staying there again if there were no other familiar options.

The size of the room was amazing for NYC. Very clean and had everything we needed. Really appreciated the kitchenette. The only negative was that the bed wasn’t very comfortable and the sofa bed even less so. I would still recommend highly.

Amazing location in midtown. Walking distance to so many things but steps from 6 train as well. Room was huge for NYC with a kitchenette and lounge. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Was easy to speak to a person quickly when I had to call before our stay. Beds were high quality - very comfortable.

My family and I found the staff at this hotel to be excellent, polite and responsive. The hotel is near to our favorite restaurants and places we wanted to go. The suite was spacious and clean with excellent internet and comfortable beds. We would have given this property 5 stars BUT we had 1 major problem which caused us to give it a 3 star rating. The AC unit in the bedroom was loud and sounded like a truck was driving in the room! The noise impacted our sleep and made our stay very unpleasant. We were told they did not have enough rooms to switch us. Thankfully we had our noise cancelling earphones which helped reduce the noise. Because of this 1 negative issue with what would normally be an excellent suite, I do not think we will be returning to this hotel and we cannot recommend a stay there to our many friends who ask us for travel advice.

The room on 2nd floor was the worst I have experienced in the many times I have stayed in the hotel. The windows are unusually small to start with, but one of them is then blocked by the afterthought air conditioning unit. The lack of natural light was matched by the poor lighting available in the room.

We had a group and had 3 rooms reserved. Really great staff - very professional and very helpful from front desk, concierge, to housekeeping staff! We were there for a week and our rooms were cleaned every day! Very impressive! Couldn't be happier.

The San Carlos has become our home away from home when in NYC. The staff is always welcoming and professional. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious (especially by NYC standards). The hotel is in a great location near a number of good restaurants (Spice Symphony in the lobby is fabulous) and easily walkable from several subway lines. They could use to make some minor repairs (I noticed a number of paint chips, dents and scuffs in our bathroom (Room 908), but that didn't detract from our stay in the least. We look forward to our next stay.

The staff was efficient. Room was clean. The location is convenient to the subway. A pleasant stay. However, on the final day of the trip, my sister had a stomach bug; in our haste checking out my mother left a modest piece of heirloom jewelry on the tray in the bathroom. We alerted the hotel & were met with a brisk response. When we circled back in the person, we were dismayed with the front desk clerk’s apathetic dismissal. She literally did not permit me to finish my sentence when I attempted to leave a description of the necklace + contact information for the reward. However, on the final day of the trip, my sister had a stomach bug; in our haste checking out my mother left a modest piece of heirloom jewelry on the tray in the bathroom. We alerted the hotel & were met with a brisk response. When we circled back in the person, we were dismayed with the front desk clerk’s apathetic dismissal. She literally did not permit me to finish my sentence when I attempted to leave a description of the necklace + contact information for the reward. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The lobby and room were very clean. The linens were crispy and white. Bed was comfortable. We fell in love with Andy the doorman. Very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very quiet. Great sleeping for us. We rented a suite so our daughter could sleep on the pull out. That was not very comfortable. Location is great. Midtown east. Quick walk to subway, Grand ce trail and UN area.

Hotel San Carlos was a perfect place for us to start our daily trips to discover New York. Walking distance of all the attractions and shops in midtown on a relatively quiet place. Service in the hotel is perfect. We would come again with a next Visit.

Very good hotel away from Tourist attractions but close enough to bars and restaurants. Walkable within a mile of Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park. Quiet and clean hotel with great staff and service.

The San Carlos was a great find. The larger two-room units with 2 bathrooms were perfect for my family. The hotel staff were both extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Lastly, the hotel's location was great. Close to subways, but in a less busy part of town. Still close to most attractions we wanted to see.

Amazing location in midtown. Walking distance to so many things but steps from 6 train as well. Room was huge for NYC with a kitchenette and lounge. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Was easy to speak to a person quickly when I had to call before our stay. Beds were high quality - very comfortable.

Excellent location, spacious and comfortable rooms. The only problem is that there is no food service at the hotel, which sometimes is more convenient than getting Uber Eats. But is manageable thanks to the so many food options around the hotel.

This location is seriously in the BEST location. Walking distances to major attractions but tucked away in probably the quietest areas for a good night's rest after a busy day. Great breakfast/lunch diner directly across the street and nice dinner choices within steps. I will definitely stay here again if back in NYC.

The best things about this hotel are the cleanliness and the comfortable beds. It advertises an on-site restaurant but we never found it open. I think it serves Indian food. I assumed with saying there was a restaurant on-site we would be able to get a morning coffee. I asked the front desk about that when we checked in but was told we had to go out to get coffee so we went to Starbucks every morning. Upon arrival, our tv was not working. We had to call the front desk for that, but they quickly fixed it. The bathroom sink was very slow to drain...not what I expected to find at this hotel. Finally, this is just my personal preference but I like staying a little closer to Fifth Avenue, which I find is a more convenient location for what we like to do.

The San Carlos has become our home away from home when in NYC. The staff is always welcoming and professional. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious (especially by NYC standards). The hotel is in a great location near a number of good restaurants (Spice Symphony in the lobby is fabulous) and easily walkable from several subway lines. They could use to make some minor repairs (I noticed a number of paint chips, dents and scuffs in our bathroom (Room 908), but that didn't detract from our stay in the least. We look forward to our next stay.

Impeccable service, comfortable bedding and perfect location for a NYC basecamp which served our city vacation needs. Plenty of good eateries nearby including French bistros and wine bars. It is located across the street from Empire Steakhouse where we had a delicious lunch. Terrific maître d' and waitstaff. The Smith and La Pecora Bianca were also delightful restaurants for our 6 day stay. We walked from the San Carlos to the theater district and took in a couple of Broadway shows. 25 minutes of city walking which we prefer.
