Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian

The parking was extortionate, the room was very noisy. I told staff and they didn’t do anything about it

We had an amazing stay at The Caledonian! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome. In fact, before we arrived I had an email asking if we required anything specific for our stay or recommendations for places to visit or restaurants. We were delighted when our room was upgraded as we were visiting for a very special birthday celebration. The suite we stayed in was fantastic! Everything was clean, in excellent condition and comfortable. We went for a family swim in the pool and really enjoyed the experience. The staff in the spa were helpful and welcoming, and the pool area felt clean and safe. The breakfast experience was wonderful; the food was fresh and you could tell it was of the finest quality. The waiting staff couldn’t have been more accommodating, especially with a slightly fussy young child who changed her mind a few times! The breakfast food selection was fantastic and everything was delicious. We had the best stay and it really made for a memorable birthday treat, and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay at this hotel again, the next time we visit Edinburgh!

The only issue with the property was that the parking garage was closed for construction. But not a big deal overall as parking was available at the NCP across the street.

It needs updating, staff are lovely and try their best. Only 1 working elevator the whole 3days. Frosted bedroom window, no view whatsoever. Breakfast not included, enjoyed it but pricey as quite average.

Awesome Hotel Great pool amd spa

The Hotel is an old building, but what was disappointing was the renovation going on during our stay. Also the reason I booked this Hotel was for me and my wife to have a nice spa date in there hotel. Only to be told they are only open on weekends. They should be more honest on all aspects and let the customer know before they book. But I understand they would lose bussiness if they do.

The hotel was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool and spa facilities were amazing!

Wonderful old hotel, great restaurant and bar, fantastic staff. The lifts broke down for a couple of days but we were on the 1st floor so just a bit more exorcise if we didn't fancy waiting for the service lift! We are looking to book our return visit soon .

The hotel is situated in the center of Edinburgh, so all of the sights are in a walking distance. Great service, nice friendly and efficient personnel, top cleanliness and good breakfast. The things I was missing was a power outlet in the bathroom for hair dryer and a high mirror. All in all a top hotel which could be highly recommended to anyone.

Rooms very cold; inadequate heating and dated. Staff were excellent in terms of service and breakfast was superb. Pool area was also very good. No turndown service and no housekeeping after 5pm - very odd for a premium 5 star hotel.

We decided to splurge and enjoy our two nights in Edinburgh at the Caledonian. I rarely leave reviews, but it felt like we experienced a bait and switch which I think others should be aware of before booking. Although the Caledonian is special property in a great location, we were very disappointed, and the value compared to other hotels was poor. Based on other reviews and our experience, I think they likely have many very nice rooms, but they also several that aren’t as nice and unfortunately we were given the small, not nice room despite paying the prices and seeing the photos of what look like much nicer rooms for the room we booked. It unfortunately felt like a bait and switch and made the experience quite sour, and certainly was not worth the price. I really wish we could leave a positive review but here were the main issues: - our floor was under construction and the hallways were filled with furniture, the odour of of fresh paint, and workers coming and going all the time as they worked on the rooms and moved items in the service elevator near to our room - very poor water pressure, the shower was functional but only if holding the wand in your hand - one very small, high-up exterior window (maybe 1ft by 2ft) in room that made it so you couldn’t see outside and enjoy the view because of the height and shape - they didn’t restock the tea/coffee station when cleaning so we ran out of tea after the first night - no dressing mirror in the room except normal mirror above s

The hotel is very old which can be an attractive but in this case it’s not well maintained, everything is falling apart, the elevators didn’t work one night, there was no hot water for one night, it doesn’t have sealed windows so you can hear the wind every night, the rug of the rooms is also old so there are constantly particles of it getting stuck to your feet. Room service non existing, dinner waiting time average 1 hour and breakfast be sure to get before 9 am otherwise you will be there for hours. Overall a terrible experience and additional to this very very expensive and you don’t get half of what you paid for.

This historic hotel was perfect for our visit. The property was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly. The onsite restaurant and bar were nice for a relaxing evening or nightcap. The location is convenient as it makes walking to nearby sites like local shops, restaurants, and the Edinburgh Castle very easy. Highly recommended and would stay there again.

Paying over £600 for a room per night, I would have expected the condition to be of higher standard. Phone next to bed made a constant noise, the porcelain taps were chipped and the windows looked like they needed painting. Staff were great and the breakfast was delicious.

The staff was super friendly and helpful. My wife really liked the room - it was big and clean. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer was that the sewer of our bathtub was completely clogged throughout our stay.

I like the bar/courtyard area and the serice. I didn't like the coldness of the room but it did heat up after maintenance intervened. The bathroom was 'baltic' caused by old ill fitting window. The room was unsitable for a booking and should not be given to any guest. Very, very disappointed.

We stayed in one of the refurbished rooms on the 3rd floor and it was lovely. Very spacious and nicely furnished with a large bathroom;separate bath and walk in shower. All staff we encountered were delightful. Perfect.

Beautiful and well-sized rooms with excellent amenities. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Very pleasant stay. I would stay here again.

the air conditioning was not working

If you dont book their premier room you are going to get most likely a room in which you cannot walk around and a window where you can peek outside via a peep hole of a window over looking a parking lot. the bathrooms do not have independent heating. I moved by paying more ... however they were doing heaving hammering right over my head during nap time. I had ot move again. Packed and unpacked 3 times in one day. Great location and great ambience of the hotel iteself.

My room was all the way on the top floor which didn’t have proper windows or views , mostly of the roof and the room was also next to a door/ access where the cleaning crew came and went all day to bring food to guests etc

Absolutely wonderful stay. The room was small but elegant. The view was beautiful from our room. The hotel is gorgeous and the staff is wonderful. We loved using the amenities (pool etc.). The dining options were fabulous. Loved the breakfast buffet. It is in a fantastic location too.

The AC was NOT working in my room. My room was like microwave.

This is my third and probably final time at the Cali. It’s a beautiful building centrally located. Checkin was fine but after that staff were unfriendly and I was made to feel like I was an inconvenience. Trying to get food was difficult despite half the tables being empty and waiting several hours. Staff seem unhappy and in some cases untrained. There are better options nowadays in Edinburgh that are certainly much cheaper.

There are so many things to say about this property, but the staff was the shining star. Everyone from the door staff to the front desk, concierge, and bar was kind and extremely helpful. They helped curate our experience both inside and outside the hotel and made our trip one of a kind. The property is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious. We will 100% stay at this hotel again the next time we are in Edinburgh.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful, traditional hotel. The building itself had so much charm and character, and the surrounding area felt safe and lively, with plenty to explore. The service was exceptional; the staff were warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Second time we have stay at this hotel and it won’t be the last time, first class service from all the staff, make this hotel a must if your staying in Edinburgh you won’t be disappointed.

The hotel charged me twice for my stay at the hotel. $8600 and $7980 Which are not the rates that I should be charged. We have contacted the hotel multiple times. They don’t answer and of our messages or calls.

Brilliant hotel in a central location. The staff were amazing, really polite and would always go above and beyond to make your trip extra special. We will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Very rude and unhelpful staff. Reception team did not care to assist or help in anyway when I asked to move room as I was placed above a generator! I decided to leave shortly after my arrival as the hotel is not as nice as they make out on the website. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. Try the Sheraton or the W hotel.

I appreciate certain aspects of the stay, I believe the overall service did not reflect the value of the price paid. There was only one elevator serving all rooms, which led to frequent delays going up and down. Reaching room service often took a long time, and even after someone answered, there was usually no proper follow-up — we had to go down in person to get assistance. Additionally, I found that most of the staff were not very welcoming. Only one or two team members were friendly and willing to help. Unfortunately, the rest appeared uninterested and responded with the shortest answers possible, making the interaction feel rushed and unhelpful.

We had a fantastic stay, I cannot stress how great this hotel is. From location, to accommodation, to local restaurants, shopping and castle views it cannot be beat.

This hotel is stunning! The staff are amazing! It is central and easy to get around from.

We came across this hotel while finding a hotel in the city. Location is amazing! Walkable to many tourist spots. Conveniently located near everything. Hospitality is top priority. Cozy everywhere you go. Room we got is newly renovated and an absolute favorite. No view but still great stay. Will absolutely come back here. Breakfast is wonderful. A lot of selections.

We just stayed at the Caledonian for our wedding anniversary. Everything was outstanding from the friendly welcome of the concierge and check in to the service at breakfast We also had dinner in the Dean Banks restaurant with the tasting menu and the service and the food was again outstanding. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the room itself whilst not the biggest was perfectly appointed. We would not hesitate to recommend to anyone to stay here.

Staying in an historic grand hotel felt really special. All the staff were wonderful. After dining in the Grazing restaurant we enjoyed a coffee and whisky in the Peacock Alley with a live jazz trio.
