This is an very old (antique) kind of property where you will find moving luggages between floors and stairs is somewhat a challenging experience. The lift is the old type require manual door opening and accommodate only one person plus a bag. Some rooms were far reached through a long narrow hallway so they are not convenient for those who have large luggages hence we asked for a change to a more accessible room since we had two large luggages. No air conditioning but a floor fan was available (which was broken and had to be swapped with another one). Water pressure of the shower was horrible (basically dripping) and we had to skip taking a shower after hotel staff failed to fix it the first night.

The hotel is a bit tired and reasonably clean. Far too hot in the rooms. Also the Bar is shut and not open to guest as being rented out even thou they still advertise come and have a drink notices laying on the bed. Book online for breakfast it’s a 1 pound more than booking when you check in.

Quirky hotel with old style gated lift very cute!! Breakfast very reasonably priced and delicious .Staff friendly & had a hairdryer at reception when needed. Hotel is surrounded by bars/restaurants and 2 minutes walk to all the shops.Handy it has its own carpark too!! Will definitely be going back !

I didn't know that the hotel didn't have air conditioning. Management did provide portable fans. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel was clean. Elevator was not working which made access challenging but management did handle our luggage for us.

We were there for a RC Pre Cruise 1 night stay. The hotel will keep your large cases, as the rooms are smaller and you won't have to get them to your rooms as there is a bit of walking involved to reach your room. I packed a small over night which worked nicely. The staff is lovely and helpful. No ac but we did not need it, the windows open. A very nice Pub next door. You will need a taxi if you are going to the cruise port. It is not within walking distance. We paid for breakfast at check in. It was nice to stay in a bit of history.

This hotel worked for our short 3 day stay. The staff was great and very friendly. The room was in good shape and as described. I filtered my hotel search to include AC so beware it doesn’t have AC or a working elevator. The front desk and owner told us it was getting fixed the next day after we checked. It was not so FYI. We didn’t take advantage of that in house breakfast. We just went to the bakery across the street. I wound close by saying this is a good hotel not great.

The rooms were so hot, the overall hotel is a bit tired and you can hear people walking down the corridors as the floor boards squeak. Also the bar area was closed for a as being rented out and no date when it will be open but no notification and in the bedrooms a card saying come and enjoy a drink. Location to the city centre is great.

My room 66 was at the top of 3/4 flights of stairs, the lift was only used for luggage. The room was hot,only a fan and small window.The weather was usually hot on 17 jul ,but due to roof gully no wind blows into room .If air con is your thing dont stay here..the shower had mildew stains around the join to the wall ,and could do with a chemical treatment. The owner said he was renovating, but this could be done now.Breakfast was well cooked, excellent bacon, No fresh bread rolls or fruit or cheese, only sliced bread for toast.For £120 a night I expected better. The reception lady was welcoming and helpful. The hotel is in a good central position for visiting the town and has an old world charm which was lovely. I would stay again but in a renovated room with air con or on a winter break

Good location...staff friendly at check in. Elevator/lift broken so we had to walk upstairs. Not a big deal. However the staff used the same elevator to bring our bags up. Room was about 40 degrees Celcius. One window opened 6 inches. The other bolted down. Springs sticking out of bed. Mold in shower and outside. Tiles broken off. Paint peeling. Hardly slept because of the heat. Even though we had a fan. Tried to get ice to have cold drinks to cool down. The bar would only give us the equivalent of a glass of ice. Next time i would rent a car and park in a parking lot before i stayed here again. Note-we stay in hotels around the world. Some great. Some not. This one ranks up there for bow bad it was. No neat. No elevator. Dirty and run down.

Small dirty room , mould and rust in the shower. No cold water pressure and tap loose in basin..tv very poor signal. Overall probably the worst place I have stayed in. Floor on first floor over looking car park with rooms opposite on higher floors yet I had no curtain for privacy and used the bathroom without a light switched on!!

The staff were friendly and welcoming , the room was filthy to the point I feel the bed had just been made rather than clean sheets put on and the shower was not usable it was so dirty. I took one of the pillow cases to the cleaner as it was covered in pubic hair she was very apologetic and advised she had not cleaned that room and that the pillow case was very dirty but she only changed the pillow case and nothing else so I went to primemark and bought bedding. The window in the room was broken and there was no double glazing so very noisy.

Terrible hotel, bed bugs in the room, bed bug traps under the beds but clearly not doing anything. Hotel aware but acting dumb about it, i took a live bed bug down to reception and demanded refund. They said it had all been refunded but its been nearly a week and still no refund. Explained that id recently had bed bugs from a previous hotel stay and it cost me over 2k to get my house fully fumigated and items replaced. Its now the 1st thing i check when i get in my room. Bad service, didnt offer amy compensation towards another stay elsewhere as it was late on all hotel prices had risen.

The hotel is old and slowly undertaking refurbishment. Our room was huge and updated. Very nice. However other rooms are small and dingy and desperately need updating. Service was excellent. Location is central however very noisy at night from young people shouting and/or arguing till all hours of the night

Very good value hotel in the centre of Southampton. The building is dated and visibly worn. However, rooms are spacious and clean, there is a desk for working and free WiFi. Good breakfast with friendly service. Rooms at the back of the hotel quite noisy at night.

Overall the room was in good condition, there is however a lack of good ventilation. Our window opened into a narrow passage between buildings with little air flow. The pillows were horrendous. It was like sleeping on a bag of foam balls.

Our trip was an overnight before a cruise Mike at the front desk was wonderful as the wonderful night lady. The hotel is 200 years old. Had all the modern conveniences with a 1800 feel. When we got off the lift we had to take the steps to floor 2 1/2. Restaurants and lots of shopping was very close by 2 minute walk.would definitely choose this hotel again

Let's start with the good: Good location Rooms better than expected (although towel rail was hanging off). Felt very clean Now the bad: We got a call at around 1pm on the day of the check in, telling us if we didn't pay then and there they would cancel the rooms (we had 7 rooms). Pointed out we booked on pay at hotel and we would be checking in at around 5. The man was quite aggressive and kept referring me to our agent (I'm guessing he meant hotels.com). After I promised we would be there he calmed down and agreed to keep the rooms!! The worst part for me was the shower, I had room 2, which had a walk in shower, used it in the morning and the tray got so slippy, I couldn't stay on my feet and ended up in a pile in the corner. I mentioned this on check out and suggested a slip mat was needed. The lady was concerned and said someone would call me to check I was alright. Nobody did, I actually suffered from a broken toe and a bit of bruising, but it could have been a lot worse. My summary is the hotel facilities are OK, but the care of the guests is poor and overall they are lucky to get 3 stars from me.

Desk staff also very helpful. Notably Nhuanelka (sp.?) who has a delightful personality and very helpful in assisting us! Anna (breakfast staff) also made our experience special with her providing fabulous breakfasts and her cheerful, engaging presence made us feel right at home!

We were there for a RC Pre Cruise 1 night stay. The hotel will keep your large cases, as the rooms are smaller and you won't have to get them to your rooms as there is a bit of walking involved to reach your room. Very good value hotel in the centre of Southampton. The building is dated and visibly worn. However, rooms are spacious and clean, there is a desk for working and free WiFi. Good breakfast with friendly service. Rooms at the back of the hotel quite noisy at night.

The hotel is in an excellent location equidistant between the bars and shopping centre such as O'Nells, Yates, etc and the bars and restaurants the other end on Oxford Street-that road is very vibrant and well worth a visit.

When I checked in I was advised that the water was off for some rooms due to an issue but it did not affect mine. The room was small but it was a single room. It was clean and the staff were friendly. The highlight was the breakfast, which was superb and the breakfast staff were lovely and a credit to the hotel. Lots of choice and was ready immediately at the breakfast start time which was great as i had a train to catch soon after.

Got a free upgrade to a lovely family room. Staff was really friendly, the location was amazing, the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was very nice! Hope to stay here again in the future.

I found all staff I encountered to be approacable, helpful and friendly. The room was clean and quiet and the bed comfortable. The breakfast however was not good. Offer ed from 7 to 10 am, I ate at 8.15. The bacon was so hard and dry it could not be cut or bent and tbe sausage were cheap tasting and, again very dried out and wrinkled. The rest of the buffet looked moist and okay. Right next door to a Wetherspoons, you really need to up your game. Not a cheap breakfast either. I will book with you again but eat elsewhere. Thank you.

Ideal location, with adequate parking. Staff very good, friendly and efficient. We didn't have breakfast so can't say for sure but it smelled great!... Building old and lots of features, so don't expect pristine finish. But it is clean and bed comfy.
