At most 3 stars. ‘Spa’ apparently means services like nails, not an actual spa. Felt short changed by that.

Hotel was ideally placed for the station and everywhere we wanted to be. Comfortable and friendly, tho a little quirky in its layout with sets of stairs here and there. Was disappointed to see the hotel bar had closed but didnt affect our stay.

Great location hotel. Clean and modern. Didn't have breakfast or dinner but had a late drink in the bar. Very popular with groups of drinkers in the afternoon, early eve. Not a very accessible hotel however, as steps to the many levels. Used lift, but still steps to corridor and steps inside bedroom. location and price were good though.

Handsome furnishings,linen,& building. Breakfast has moved to the basement instead of lovely dining room,so I did not eat,no room service even for coffee & pastries. Attic room with small window,good view of Grey Street. Shower over bath is awkward for elders. Poor wi fi,a nuisance. Took 3 requests to get my room heated. Very peaceful in the attic!

Lovely hotel, staff were super polite and the junior suite was amazing, however I went down for dinner at 19:45 and was told the restaurant was no longer serving food. Apparently, dinner service closes at 19:30 and the kitchen fully closes at 20:00. This seems ridiculously early for a city centre hotel. Great location for a couple that can walk around and find a restaurant, but as a solo person wanting to eat in the hotel facilities, I think the restaurant timings might prevent me from booking this hotel again…..hence my 3 stars rating.

Fabulous boutique hotel, staff extremely friendly and helpful. Central for shops, bars and restaurants. If you have mobility problems be aware that Grey St is hilly. I stayed in room 19 which meant stairs so again if you have mobility issues request another room. Saying all that I'd definitely stay again

Was quite noisy and the fact that the lift was broken made it a bit awkward getting up the stairs. The fact that the bar shut at 10 was not good.

Very comfortable clean room, in house bar was practically non existent and disappointing.

Sheets had stains on and my partner woke up with bite like lumps on his legs and my daughter has one on her face

The room was well decorated and the bed was huge and comfortable. There was a great choice of breakfast and all the staff were lovely and welcoming. The cleanliness was a problem though. We had to ask to have slimy mould cleaned from a shower tile, there were cobwebs in the corner and the lovely big curtains were caked in dust when you moved them. We think this was probably the exception though and wouls stay again.

Every member of staff we encountered was really friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make our stay great. We had breakfast at the hotel 2 out of 3 mornings we were staying and both times it was great - something delicious for each of us. Lovely buffet selection, hot drinks station and juice stations and great options on the hot menu too (including gluten free options like gluten free toast, omlettes, eggs etc) . Absolutely fantastic location near station, a car park, lots of restaurants and shops) Will definitely stay here again!

I have stayed in a lot of hotels, travelling with work, including in Newcastle. This is by far one of the best I have ever stayed in! The staff are warm, welcoming, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. The hotel is beautiful, it has all you need in the way of modern convenience, while retaining many of his its heritage features. The balance is just right. My room was, cosy, beautifully decorated, with high quality furnishings, bed linen and fluffy towels. The bed was super comfy, the blackout curtains ensuring a perfect sleep. The bathroom was perfect, with a good sized bath, brilliant power shower, that actually kept its temperature. The toiletries which were from the White Company, they smelt devine! My room overall had everything you need from an iron and board to hairdryer, plenty of storage space and a TV with a good variety of channels. Worthy of note for the entire hotel, but especially for my room, it is immaculate. There was not a spec of dust anywhere, the carpets actually vacuumed and free from hair! I have stayed in hotels in a much higher price bracket and have not been able to say the same. This is a fantastic hotel, I was pleased to tell the staff, they deserved to be told, how exemplary it is. Give it a try - you will love it just as much I’m sure! Sadly the room was very tired looking and could have been cleaner. The staff in the hotel were great but the room needs some tlc

This is one of my favourite hotels to stay in, but sadly this stay has me questioning whether I'll stay again. we were unable to check in at 3pm when we should've because the room still wasnt ready. We were due straight out, but couldn't check in for around 40 mins. We missed a chunck of the event. I had to sleep ontop of the quilt as there were several yellow stains on the bed sheets.

The room was comfortable and beautiful. Noise was not a problem despite being on the main road with roadworks outside. Excellent location in the heart of the city. The bed was very comfortable and all at an excellent price.

Room was clean and staff were pleasant and friendly. Lovely white company toiletries and a comfortable bed. Location was excellent.

Hotel overall is nice. However disappointing that the rooms don’t have a fridge. Also disappointing that there was not a fan in the room or available from reception. Staff are very nice and the bed is comfortable and rooms are nice.

As I have stayed at this property many times , I took the option of booking a suite, big mistake only one window which was obscure glass so no daylight, a tiny shower which requires urgent updating, several other minor maintenance issues like a blocked sink etc. Worst of all was the full flight of stairs to get to the bathroom. Also was asked to pay £20 for an early check-in as we arrived at 1.30pm and would have to wait till 3pm to avoid this even though the room was available.

Double room was very small, distinct smell of drains and very very dusty. Reception staff were not particularly helpful e.g. cartons of water in room on first day of stay (as stated) however not provided on subsequent days - when requested were told it was chargeable …we’d get one if we checked out and checked back in again!! On the positive, the staff serving breakfast was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was lovely.

Reception staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. 'Manager' (Matt) was rude, arrogant and unhelpful.

Staff were amazing. Stayed here many times and they are so friendly. Will continue to stay going forward and are already booked to come back in a couple of weeks. Location is excellent breakfast is amazing. Staff at breakfast are also fantastic. Rooms clean and well presented. Fantastic location.

Fantastic location and great value for money. Really nice hotel with personable staff. We had a junior suite which was probably a bit smaller than we hoped but can’t really complain given the cost and location. Enjoyed our breakfast

Restaurant staff and service were great. Although when attempting to but three bottles of wine for our table first three choices on menu were unavailable. As was the rib eye steak for 2 of us. Food apart from that was really good. But the noise from the cocktail bar DJ is horrendous on both the nights we ate there. So not a place for a quiet restaurant experience.

This is a very comfortable hotel in a great location. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is available from the restaurant next door. My cooked breakfast was good and there was a buffet with pastries juices and fresh fruit. It was disappointing to have coffee from a machine no matter how many options were available. It was poor quality coffee and not hot enough. A cafetière would have been much better.
