This hotel is extremely easy to access with a quick drive from 94 to 30 to Wilson! The hotel is an historic property, with all that is implied - lots of character and fewer amenities (and upward-flushing toilets!). Be prepared to wait until 3 p.m. to check in as the manager is not onsite until just before then. The great bar on the first floor opens at 2:30 if you need to kill time. Bring earplugs - trains go by right outside the hotel, there is a lot of traffic/pedestrian/band noise late at night - but we loved our room with a lakeview and a jacuzzi tub. There is a cafe on the ground floor where we had a very nice, very complete buffet breakfast; when you check in, you will receive two drink tickets for the Essen Haus next door. You will be only a 10-15 minute walk from the state capital and the weekly Farmer's Market, which runs into November. There are MANY super bars and restaurants around the capital square.

The staff was friendly and made checking in fast and easy. Love the bar downstairs and the the complimentary breakfast was one entree per person and then any sides you paid for. Both our meals totaled less then 5 dollars. Tip the servers!!!!!

Pros-the hotel is very interesting and I loved the antique feel to it. There are a couple of pubs and restaurants attached to the hotel, which is very convenient (food, drinks, and service were amazing). They even give you a couple of free drinks and free breakfast at the associated establishments with your stay. Cons-they have no cash at the front desk... keep in mind if you intend to leave a tip for your room attendant. The pub below the guest rooms can tend to get a bit busy and loud, which is fun if you are participating, but not good if you are trying to rest. I arrived at 8 PM, and so check in at the front desk was not available. I had to check in at the bar, which was slammed. The bartenders were super friendly and accommodating, but you still have to wait a bit longer to check into your hotel room and offload your baggage. The parking lot (off street parking) is also shared with the pubs and restaurants, so finding somewhere to park can be a chore if you arrive later in the day. Overall, a unique and pleasant experience, just a couple of things that I wasn't prepared for.

Very good stay for a reasonable price in a nicely themed and spacious room. The location is wonderful for catching night life downtown, including the bar in the same building that is only an elevator ride away. I would stay again without any reservations. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. The hotel shares a parking lot with a few other businesses so self parking can get a bit tight.

Love this historic hotel very near the WI capitol building. Easy walking to great restaurants. UpNorth Bar in the building with live music is relaxed and you can take the elevator to your room. Nice breakfast included.

My husband and I stayed for one night because we were in town for a concert and the location worked really well. Because the reviews were so good, we took a chance on this hotel. We were very underwhelmed. It’s openly funky and different so we were prepared for that. We were also aware it was above a bar and went in eyes wide open. But our room was not as clean we’d hoped and the furniture was what I’d describe as “thrift store finds.” There were visible dirty spots on the furniture and carpeting. The lobby smelled pretty terrible - like years of food being fried downstairs - and the room had a musty smell. It wasn’t the worst place we’ve stayed but we won’t stay again. We arrived late and grabbed our room key and parking pass from the bartender. The vestibule to the hotel elevator was full of dead/dying plants. The room smelled musty, it is a very old building and the odor was fitting. The bathtub dripped, the comforter was stained, we woke up in the hollow in the middle of the mattress. The free breakfast consisted of bacon (which we could smell in our room all morning), scrambled eggs, very weak coffee and toast. There was a beverage fridge with one flavor of yogurt, a carafe of juice and a 1/2 gallon of milk. The dining area was filthy. There were stained trash cans in the middle of the room, more dead/dying plants, a glass case of wolf heads (so appetizing) and a couple tables with food underneath and on the chairs. My husband thought he was booking a "boutique hotel". Glad we only needed to be there less than 12 hours. Should have known from the price. You get what you pay for. Also, the train tracks and signal are feet away from the hotel. Hard to sleep through the minutes long signal and flashing lights, not to mention trains rumbling by.

Overall, very cute vibe. There were some sticky stains/spots on our sheet and comforter that seemed to be something like lipgloss which was a little disappointing. With our room being right by the street there was some noisy traffic in the night, but they supplied earplugs to it. Bath tub drain is very slow.

Not sure what qualifies as after hours, we arrived about 8:30pm. Hotel is very interesting and unique. Room was nice but a few cleanliness issues. Hairs in shower, stains on walls in bathroom. Loved the building, room, and decor. Also appreciated the complimentary coupons for drinks and breakfast. The only complaint is that the shower was not fully cleaned and had some long hairs in and around the drain.

Walking distance from the cute Williamson Street shops and restaurants. We stayed in 13 which was spacious and has an east (lake) view. We knew what we were getting ourselves into staying at this location given the bar downstairs with live music almost nightly and an active freight train line right in front of the building. The hotel knows this too and provides earplugs. Despite the brief noise, we had a wonderful stay!

We loved our stay in the Ruby Marie that is just off one of the lakes and its walkway in Madison. The rooms are spacious and charming, with comfy arm chairs, gas fireplaces, beautiful wood work, and nice and roomy bathrooms. The king bed was super comfortable. It is conveniently located with a 10 minute walk to the capital and State Street.

Fantastic deal. Saved a ton of money staying here vs a chain hotel this close to the Capitol. That being said, it was noisy and the bed was squeaky but we would still stay here again. You can’t beat that price in that location.

Hotel was unique and quirky which we like over the big chain hotels but, it need some updating and repairs. The bed was very uncomfortable and all the seating in our room needs better support and cushioning. Air conditioner was missing the piece that directs air flow so it blew directly on the bed. Couldn't open the windows either. Probably would not stay here again.

Ruby Marie isca very unique property. Quirky would be the best way to describe the building. Our room was huge when compared to any modern hotel rooms. It was very clean with a very comfortable mattress. The biggest complaint would be the street noise as the property is right on a major intersection in Madison.

Love the ambiance. Staff very friendly. Could use a second chair to sit in, in Room 25. Weather became very cold during our stay, and could not get room to heat up past 63 degrees. Also shower not hot at all. Brrr!

Overall, it was a good hotel. The antique ambiance is fantastic and definitely different from the run-of-the-mill corporate hotel. The location is great - a 10 minute walk to the capital and convention center. There were a couple of things that could have been better - 1. Cleanliness - overall the hotel was clean, but there were several spiders on the ceiling that were not removed even after the room was cleaned. I removed two myself when they crawled over the bed. 2. There is no 24-hour staff. I recall staff being present approximately 8AM-6PM. Other requests had to go through the bartender downstairs. 3. The complementary breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays is at the neighboring cafe, which only started at 8AM (and was not as good as the in-house breakfast, Mondays-Fridays).

We loved our stay in the Ruby Marie that is just off one of the lakes and its walkway in Madison. The rooms are spacious and charming, with comfy arm chairs, gas fireplaces, beautiful wood work, and nice and roomy bathrooms. The king bed was super comfortable. It is conveniently located with a 10 minute walk to the capital and State Street.

Beautiful room and bathtub, nice bed and spacious. Loved the vintage look and setting in the heart of the city. We went to a concert at the Sylvee which was only 0.3 miles away. Loved that we could walk and that there were restaurants and bars nearby.

Ruby Marie is a lovely, historic hotel. We loved learning the history of the building and the area. The rooms are very updated with charming furnishings and plenty of space. Breakfast in the attached cafe was delicious. We enjoyed the bar and restaurants nearby. We also had fun walking across the street to the lake and the convention center.

We arrived late and grabbed our room key and parking pass from the bartender. The vestibule to the hotel elevator was full of dead/dying plants. The room smelled musty, it is a very old building and the odor was fitting. The bathtub dripped, the comforter was stained, we woke up in the hollow in the middle of the mattress. The free breakfast consisted of bacon (which we could smell in our room all morning), scrambled eggs, very weak coffee and toast. There was a beverage fridge with one flavor of yogurt, a carafe of juice and a 1/2 gallon of milk. The dining area was filthy. There were stained trash cans in the middle of the room, more dead/dying plants, a glass case of wolf heads (so appetizing) and a couple tables with food underneath and on the chairs. My husband thought he was booking a "boutique hotel". Glad we only needed to be there less than 12 hours. Should have known from the price. You get what you pay for. Also, the train tracks and signal are feet away from the hotel. Hard to sleep through the minutes long signal and flashing lights, not to mention trains rumbling by.

This "classic inn" hotel is furnished in period pieces and has an old manor feel. My room was very spacious with a nice full bath. My room had its own AC/heat and the bed was very comfortable. The provided breakfast was very nice with many choices. There is a bar on the ground floor so the bottom couple of floors can hear some of the bar music but it stopped at a reasonable hour. Recommended.
