Peaks of Otter Lodge

We loved looking out on the lake from our room and the dining room. The shuttle to Sharp Mountain was excellent

We had a relaxing stay at Peaks of Otter. We walked the lake, took the shuttle almost to the top of Sharp Top Mountain and then hiked the rest of the way up, sat by the lake in the evenings by the fire pit, read on our balcony which over looked the lake, and ate in the dining room for most meals. The staff were very attentive and accommodating, answered all our questions and were always willing to help. Room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

Check in fine went to room ac clean filter light on ac cover on floor but was fixed quickly . Next day took shower tub very slow drain tub filled with water told front desk said would have someone that day to fix did not. Was disappointed on Sunday dining room only had buffet no menu orders. Overall I enjoyed my stay quite and peaceful did wish they had more than one fire pit and was shut off to early for guests in my opinion.

The property was lovely - a very nice, quiet, natural setting. Our room was spacious and very clean. Walking the 1m circle path around the lake provided good variety to the many more adventurous higher altitude walking trails. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was fabulous, dinner and lunch offered nice variety, and we loved that the property had a bar with a very capable bartender! We can’t wait to come back!

Amazing location and view Restaurant food was good and service was lacking as they did not have a bar tender and only bottled drinks were served. The hiking trails are just outside your door and Cindy will drive you up to a stop close to the top of sharp point mountain for a small fee. We will return in the future.

Took my 99 year old Mom and my granddaughter to peaks of otter Lodge for an overnight. The granddaughter and I wanted to climb the peak. When we checked in, we got the exact room we needed. They had already reserved us a handicapped room and we had access to an elevator to go to the room that was actually in the main lodge. The area was right there too. Graciously allowed a late check out so my mom could stay in the room while we did our hike. When you stay at the Lodge, you have to understand that it is an old property and you’re not gonna get five star accommodations because it is what it is, but it was clean and the beds were comfortable , and they added a rollaway for my granddaughter. If you wanted to relaxing enjoyable time sitting by the lake and hiking around the lake, this is the place. If you’re very adventurous try to climb.

The view at this property is absolutely amazing. There is no pool but we were able to go hiking fishing right outside of our room. Fire pit with chairs around. It was awesome. Dining in the lodge was great! Rooms were nice but beds were a bit hard. I also wish we had a small refrigerator in each room since it takes at least 20 minutes to get down the mountain. If you're going to go to dinner but you can't bring back leftovers because there's nowhere to put it. It was an amazing weekend with my husband and two boys ages 7 and 10. 😊

The property itself is absolutely beautiful. Grounds are pretty well kept and nice view of lake and Peaks of Otter. The bar area is very quaint with friendly staff. Dining room is also nice. The room we had was mediocre at best. It was under the bar area and very noisy until around 10PM. Also, little things like an extremely dirty vent in the bathroom and uncovered electrical box in the bedroom were kind of disappointing, especially considering the price of the room. Hot water in shower was just warm enough to shower comfortably.

A perfect place to stay traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. Room was more than adequate, dinner was delightful, eggs at the breakfast buffet were a tad cold but the mugs of piping hot tea more than made up for it. But the main reason to stay is its right on the parkway with magnificent views of Sharp Top Mountain and Abbot Lake

It's an old lodge doing the best it can with the infrastructure... Also there is absolutely no accessibility access except in the main lodge building which does have an elevator.

The lodge is older, but very clean with nice beds and linens. I do miss a fridge and microwave in the rooms, but the restaurant staff were very accommodating to provide hot water for my tea. The beauty surrounding the lodge is unbeatable. Love the chairs outside to sit and enjoy the quiet beauty of the lake and Sharp Top. Such a peaceful place! We enjoyed hiking on the many trails right here. Hope to come back!!

Asked for a 2nd floor, put me on the ground floor in a pet room that smelled like dog the whole time we were there. Window sills had dead bugs, not cleaned, wi fi was terrible.

The lodge overall is a nice place in a beautiful location. Unfortunately my room had a pretty serious mold problem in the ceiling rafters. For $200 a night I expect better!

The property is old and has not been updated. The carpet is terrible. The furniture stained. The AC barely works. Dust on a lamp that I could have written my name. Virtually no WiFi in the rooms. The bedsheets felt clean and bed not bad. Shared concerns with manager. She was understanding, expressed they are having issues and comped our breakfast.

I wish it was more clean. There were lots of spiders and dust.

Really enjoyed our stay. Room was older but very well maintained. Setting with the lake and mountains was breathtaking.

The room was clean and the view is spectacular! Sharp Top Mtn and the Lake Abbott are the very best ! Coffee in the morning, on the porch is my favorite. At night the stars twinkle off the lake. The cool night breeze is really refreshing ! This is my “Happy Place!”

The Peaks of Otter hotel looked nice online, but it had a few flaws. First, the rooms were not very clean. It is not a new hotel and it is tatty, I think. The worst thing, though, was the buffet on Sunday night. This wasn't mentioned in the reviews I read online, as I wouldn't have gone to a buffet. Anyway, there were few choices: Fried chicken was the only main dish. There were green beans that had the oddest flavor, as if there were a rancid ingredient in them. The dessert table was just awful. In all, I wished that I hadn't eaten there. I would never, ever go back to the Peaks of Otter hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. The lodge may feel a little dated, but it is very clean and well looked after. Our room was comfortable, with a good bed and beautiful views of the lake and mountains. Dinner and breakfast at the lodge restaurant were both very tasty, with fresh food and generous portions. The staff were attentive and friendly, which made the experience even better. It’s a unique and peaceful place to stay — especially if you want to enjoy the scenery of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Location, location, location! The grounds were beautiful. It was so peaceful. The lodge itself is in desperate need of upgrades. There is no WiFi except in the main building (restaurant). For the price, I expected a few more amenities. But overall the room was clean and the location is lovely.

This place is all about location. The rooms are about as good as a good Days Inn, so they are expensive for what you get.

This is a beautiful location and the view from the rooms is gorgeous. The rooms are clean but a little tired from their decor. It was the perfect place to start one night as we drove the Blue Ridge Highway to the Smokies.

Rooms are campy and dated. Carpet looks like it’s from the 70s.

The Peaks of Otter Lodge was very clean and the bathrooms, while small, have been updated. The king bed was very comfortable and the view from our second floor room balcony is so beautiful with Abbott Lake and the beautiful peaks to look at. The grounds of the lodge are very well maintained. We especially enjoyed the mile long walkway that goes around the entire lake. Its just a really nice and relaxing location. We will definitely go back in the future!

The scenery was beautiful. The staff was nice . But if you go here you should know that there is no phone in the room, no refrigerator, no microwave- cement block walls and our back door was broken. And no cell service until you get on their wi fi.

Best view of any hotel I’ve stayed in. Can’t beat the Blue Ridge Mountains and a lake outside your door.

Peaks of Otter Lodge really stood out for us on our roadtrip. The most notable feature is easily the scenery and seclusion of it. All rooms overlook the lake and the ability to walk out and immediately have views of the lake and peaks surrounding it is really special. The complex sits on its own surrounded by greenery without other buildings around. We were really charmed by it, felt instantly relaxed, and even thought it might make a good stop on a honeymoon! A leisurely walk around the lake takes no longer than 20 minutes. The setup is US 'motel' style: three units of two stories arranged alongside ample parking with communal ice machines. The bathrooms in particular were showing their age a bit. I found this to be characterful / charming more than off-putting but the shower head was a bit rusted and impossible to adjust and ventilation was just achieved through opening a window rather than an extractor fan. The main room was more recently decorated and spacious but the floor didn't seem to be completely clean so I deducted a star for that. These are relatively minor and we'd still absolutely stay again. We didn't dine in the restaurant so can't comment on that.

Wi Fi was down all evening/night

The property is an absolutely beautiful setting. The rooms have no soundproofing and are very loud with activity going on around them. Not enough parking to accommodate the hotel and the restaurant. Tried to eat breakfast in the restaurant and was told they were not taking anyone else yet they were still open. If they know the hotel is full then the restaurant should be staffed appropriately, especially because there is no restaurant within seven or 8 miles. Just disappointing when you pay $260 for a room not to have a $260 experience.

Beautiful setting and area. For the high room rate, too bad the rooms don't have a bit more rustic lodge feeling. They really need a bit of sprucing up. Since there is no cell coverage there, the internet connection needs improvement. Very nice dining room and food. The staff are quite helpful and friendly.

We booked this last minute and were very happy with the room, location, and the restaurant. Staff was very friendly.

My (now) fiancé and I came to Peaks of Otter Lodge for a long weekend getaway and could not have been more pleased! Every staff member we encountered from front desk to the lounge to maintenance were friendly and helpful. The lodge is located in a serene getaway in the mountains so be prepared to put your phone down and enjoy nature. Worth noting that the expectation is you’re staying in a lodge. The rooms and linens are perfectly clean, but rooms are a bit old fashioned (we found this perfectly charming!) The restaurant onsite was delicious for dinner, we enjoyed the Butternut Squash soup and cavatappi pasta. Overall, highly recommend this stay and we’re already planning to go back!

The service was really bad, both at the front desk and for the dining room. The front desk staff gave us the wrong room key twice before we were able to get a key that worked. He never apologized for his mistakes; it was clear he didn't have proper training. We were told by the dining room manager it would be a 30 minute wait and we could go to the bar. We joined about 5 groups there, all of which were told there would be a 30 minute wait. In every case it was much longer and a number of us wound up ordering our food from the bar.

Had not stayed at Peaks of Otter for several years. Our stay was enjoyable. Everyone was friendly, courteous, and extra communicative. Truly a pleasurable experience.

The Lodge is amazing but our experience at the lodge restaurant was not that great. Food and drinks took forever and there was a mix up with my food and the quality was not good

I went there and checked in only to have issue number one which was they tried to double charge me for the 3 rooms I booked. After sorting that out we went out and enjoyed the property. The property is clean and is in an amazing location!! 10/10 for location. However after the first night we stayed we got locked out of all three rooms. I had to run to the lodge to get new keys and it was pouring rain. When I got back to the hotel we found out they took all our towels and soap. I had to once again run back to the lodge to get new ones. When I explained the situation the lady at the front desk was very understanding but said she didn’t know how it happened as they didn’t have a cleaner…so who cleaned my room? Nothing was stolen. But given the issues I personally had I more than likely will not be returning.

The property was above and beyond my expectations. The staff was friendly, professional and welcoming. We are already planning our next vacation to include another stay at the lodge.

The stay at The Peaks of Otter this weekend was incredible! It was really refreshing to see the beauty of God's creation all around. So peaceful, tranquil, and beautiful everywhere I went. The service was spot on, the food was really good, and the people were really friendly. I would recommend The Peaks to anyone!

Peaks of Otter Lodge was very busy. But that was to be expected given it was peak leaf season. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. The view of the lake was amazing. We dined in the bar. As season closing was coming up shortly, it seemed they were a little short staffed for the number of clients even in midweek. I think the weekends will be packed. The food was absolutely amazing though, so well worth any wait. It was also convenient, being right on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Peaks of Otter Lodge has a beautiful property on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is comfortable (great king mattress) and cleans, shows some signs of aging, but perhaps that is part of the charm. The walls are concrete, so it was quiet at night. EVERY ROOM in lodges 1 and 2 have a view of the lake! The A/C was great! There are some hikes, including an option to purchase a shuttle ride up Sharp Top Mountain to walk up to the summit (steep stairs, a little tricky!) .The restaurant has a magnificent view, and the dinner prices were very reasonable. However, there was confusion over the breakfast menu, because they just switched to breakfast buffet only, and no customers and a few employees did not know about it. Another mix-up was that we were given room keys to a room someone was staying in- my husband went in and found items there! They did find us another room and comped us meal vouchers. I would definitely stay there again to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings and the convenience to the Parkway!

Just off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, this nugget offers a tranquil view of peaks and lake. Pleasant easy walk path around the lake also takes you the lodge and dining.

The restaurant is not great.

Beautiful property with nice trail along the lake. Restaurant short on staff but dinner was good. Breakfast buffet which was the only option left a lot to be desired. Loud motorcycles on the parkway detracted from the otherwise quiet ambiance. Enjoyed the musicians in the bar/tap room on Sunday night.

Room was ok. Breakfast was not. Only breakfast option was buffet. $20 for buffet with coffee. I tried the pancakes, biscuits and sausage gravey, potatos and eggs - all cold.

A peaceful, & rustic lodge! The lake views, from our room provided a relaxing get-away! The food was delicious. Enjoyable!

The location was just beautiful and the room was great. Cannot recommend the restaurant, however. The waitstaff was delightful but the food was awful. The hot portion of the breakfast buffet was not. You know things aren't good when the best on offer were the biscuits.

Beautiful area but lodge is OLD and overpriced. This is more like a camp out. I wish they could get federal funding to restore buildings. The restaurant buffet was also a disappointment

Property is clean but dated. Dinner was good with reasonable prices. Breakfast was not worth the price. The Holiday Inn Express free breakfast is much better. The orange juice was watered down, the toast was cold, the jelly selection was minimal, the grits were tasted blan, the scrambled eggs were plentiful and the bacon was either over cooked and some under cooked.

Dining room opened 1.5 hrs late. Limited menu and some of those items were not available. Orded soup and salad too 45 minutes to serve. Limited dining room staff. 😟
