Freehand Miami is a hidden gem, nestled in between high rise hotels. I loved the vibe, the building has a lot of character, with a funky/retro decor. The courtyard is amazing with a pool, garden, lounge areas and two bars. Freehand offers free use of their bikes, so it is easy to explore the surroundings and go for a ride on the boardwalk along the beach, which stretches for miles. Freehand is only a few minutes walk to the beach and there is bus and trolley (which is free) stops right outside the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, I felt they were very accommodating. It’s by no means a luxury hotel, but it offers a vibe that modern hotels lack. I travelled solo, so I stayed in a shared female room. The bunk was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and I met wonderful travelers from all over the world. I stayed for 7 nights and never felt unsafe. The lockers in the shared rooms are big, so my valuables fit without a problem.

The staff is AMAZING! The restaurants on property are good and affordable. My room (all female quad) was a little small and bathroom was tiny. The property is a little run down, and there is a musty odor all over the building, but it is in a great location and I love that they provide beach towels and beach chairs at no extra cost. Overall, good value for the price.

Super cute, clean, and kind service. The room was priced right and the bathroom was newly remodeled and very clean. The bar didn't open until after 5. The pool shuts down when the Broken Shaker opens, which is sad because the pool area is so cute, and would be great to come back to your room and chill at your hotel pool and bar if your not into the club scene. We had a private room that we shared. Because of the open nature of the facility anyone can come in and out. We had a situation were a male cornered us in our hallway twice and persistent on trying to get our contact information. We always had to watch that he wasn't around when we neared our hotel room, even to the point of faking something was left at the broken shaker so he would leave our hallway because we were leaving. We walked to the bar and stood there until we no longer saw him waiting in the lobby which had complete line of site of our hallway.

The best part of this facility is its lovely internal territory and the bar. The pool is also available, but it was pretty dirty and I have never seen anybody swim there. The room, furniture, and bathroom are kinda stylish, but very old. Generally looks not very clean. If you don't have high expectations regarding the room, most likely you will enjoy the bar and the good location of this hotel.

Property has nice pool area and place to hang out In the lobby area. Staff not friendly and no cold drinking water refill stations anywhere so you are forced to buy water bottles at a ridiculous price! Location is quiet and has good bus connections along Miami Beach area…

Overall our stay was good. We had a private quad and we were upgraded to a premium which was great because it came with a fridge and TV. Only thing is the cigarette smell and the smell of moisture. Floors were pretty dirty and the area around the bed bunks hadn't been cleaned in months. But we dis have our rooms “cleaned” every day and we always had fresh towels. Room was equipped with soaps and shampoo, etc. i will say i felt pretty safe and i have no complaints about the staff. A good option for a quick stay.

My stay way only an overnight flight, the hotel was nice outside pool was lovely. Also the front desk lady was nice, they even have a room you can put your belongings into check in. Subway, and market right around the corner. Walking distance 2min.. 10 min away from ocean drive in Uber. However the inside of the hotel is old, my room bedding was dirty, you can tell house keepers don’t do a good job. Other than that nice place to stay.

I’m not picky on cleanliness but if there’s one thing I can’t tolerate it’s cockroaches. I had to change rooms three times because every night I would wake up around 2-3am with cockroaches beside my bed and even once on my pillow. And I would’ve understood 1 or 2, after all it is a hostel.. but between my multiple rooms I saw at least 10 to 15 of them. DISGUSTING. The staff did okay about the situation but I wasn’t given much of a compensation.. it was kind of brushed as if it was a regular thing🤔

Great location! Love the outdoor area. Beach access and bus stop across street. Free 2-hour bicycle use is super cool though I didn’t have time to use one. Beach towels, shower towels, and hair dyers available for no fee. Reasons for giving a 4/5: The shelf built into my bed looked like it hadn’t been cleaned or wiped down in a long time, and the bathroom floor around the shower could use a deep clean. It seemed housekeeping totally turned my sheets around (I brought my own and didn’t expect anyone to touch them). I do wish guests didn’t have access to the air conditioner controls because my roommates kept turning it off, making the room very stuffy in 80-degree weather. However I would still recommend Freehand and will return!

I booked in for a few hours before my flight the next morning and woke up with 4 bites at the back of one of my ankles. I’ve had something similar happen in a hostel in Europe once (concentrated bites in one area) only to find out my bed had bed bugs which leads me to believe this was the case here. I didn’t check the bed for certainty as the girls in my room were sleeping and I arrived very late and had to leave quite early but I’d recommend the staff get up to room 222 specifically bed 4 to have a look. Our window was not open so I’m certain they weren’t mosquito bites.

Terrible place, I wonder from who these all positive reviews! Very dirty! When I arrived it was extremely not clean, with garbage from previous guests! I stayed at another freehand location in other cities, and it was good. But this is just horrible, never again. The room smelled very bad, I have no idea if was it carpet or the property was just very old, the smell was there during the stay.

The rooms need cleaning very poor cleaning. Bunk beds had tissues, red juice stains, on the table same red juice or something sticky on it. It looks like the room was never cleaned before we arrived. Other than that the hotel was great. Maybe allow food in the common area since it so expensive to eat out always

This place has gone downhill over the years. Stayed there 3 years ago and loved the vibes. Went again a week ago and it was incredibly dirty and stinky every where, the elevator barely works.

Cheap place to rest your head for a bit. The place seemed safe. Everyone has a locker so bring your own lock. AC doesn’t work very well and the top bunk gets very hot. Bring a fan to cool yourself and drown out the noise.

Zero WIFI in the room. Women's dorm, 4 bunks is in a closed room with card key lock. Felt safe. Remember to bring a padlock for the lockers - it will hold a carry on suitcase and small bag. My roomies just threw their big cases on the floor in disarray, but it was fine. Just a place to sleep. Close to the beach and a grocery store. When I asked about the wifi they said they'd check into it, but I have a feeling it never works. You need to go out of the room, downstairs to the main lobby for reception.

We stayed in the room with a king bed and it did the job. The room was small and the bathroom was tight with no selves to put things on which was inconvenient. There is no place to get water and ice whenever you need it so we had to ask. What we appreciated about the place was the location.... it was all but a block away from the beach which that section of the beach was not crowded at all which we loved. There are stores and restaurants within walking distance as well. Overall location was great and we had a good stay!

It was definitely nice for a hostel, especially in the US. The rooms were quite large and had other furniture than the beds which is rare in an hostel environment. The pool area is cute, and it is a short walk to the beach! I did not use them but was offered beach towels and chairs which I appreciated. Other reviewers have mentioned this as well, the location is on a busy street so you do hear cars at night. It was perfect for me for one night, but I don’t know if I would have enjoyed an extended stay here.

Pros: boutique vibe, lovely inner courtyard/pool area that's fun and lively but low key. Small and not overwhelming, just a few minutes walk from public beach access. Room has all the essentials. Cons: No internet! Wasnt working entire time I was there, with no apology. No one to help with bags though some rooms (mine) only accessible by staircase. Generally quite run down and the renovation they did was minimal so there's a lapsed quality to everything. No foot at restaurant before nighttime, no cafe for morning coffee, but sign saying "no outside food or drink"!

The elevator was broken, the rooms are tiny and dirty. The music from the bar area is so loud that they sell ear plugs at the front desk. Hot water is lukewarm at best. Do not stay here.

The Front desk staff were somewhat friendly upon check in .. however, after a few days they became very cold and abrasive. Tried calling the front desk several times and they never answered the phone. Horrible experience on behalf of the front desk. Not sure I'll ever stay at freehand again

Alexandra front desk clerk was very helpful Giving me all options when checking in while being calm and professional. An assert to the hotel. Called me knowing me from first meeting informing me me room was ready. Helped other guests by maintaining calmness. I felt better after all my questions were answered.

Upgraded my room for the weekend and upon changing rooms i was told i need to pay early check in fee. Agents going out of their way to make my room change more difficult. Chasing me out of my original room, trying to make me check out and wait for the new room even tho it was ready for a seamless change. Rude, not trained well, not appreciative of guests. Luckily attitudes change drastically when the lovely manager is present.

Its the end of an era for me with this property. Between the shabby room cleanings, rude hostel roommates and now a rude front desk clerk, I do not plan to return. I asked for both a bed sheet and a towel and both were rudely slapped on the front desk by the clerk ( the first time I asked for a bath towel and she slapped the towel down and walked away from the counter and secondly, when I asked for a bedsheet, she slapped down the sheet and went back to the computer… didnt bother to ask if i needed anything else or anything) as opposed to items politely being placed in my hand. I asked the clerk if she was ok and she said yes while staring at computer screen. Personal issues have nothing to do with guests. But overall, ive stayed at better hostels. Sayonara.

I love this hotel so much. You arrive at MIA , take the 150 bus which drops you off right outside the hotel . And the same returning to MIA , so easy ! The hotel has a laid back vibe, the pool is beautiful and the perfect warm temperature. I love the rooms and everyone is friendly

This property is close to bus stop which makes it very conveniently located. It’s a quiet area away from bars of oceans drive. Hotel has its own bar and pool to meet and connect with other people staying there. Staff is really helpful and towels are available all the time. There is comfortable sitting area near reception. Will definitely stay here again.

Cute, nice ambiance, the employees are courteous and respectful. I liked the adjoining bars. Great stay will return. Within 3min walk to a market and a 3min walk of the beach. Right on the main bus line, the airport bus dropped me off at the door or the hostel. Great location accessible to everything

“I recently dined at Ray’s Bar and was thoroughly impressed by both the exquisite cuisine and the impeccable service. The menu showcased a variety of innovative dishes, blending bold flavors and beautiful presentation. Andy was attentive and knowledgeable, Steve & his staff ensured that our meal was a memorable one, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring our satisfaction. I can’t recommend Ray’s Bar enough for a fantastic dining experience.”Also i recommend the spicy margarita and mango margarita!
