Courtyard festooned with lights gives this charming hotel a welcoming vibe. Excellent central location. My king bed room was spacious and clean. All staff members with whom I interacted (front desk reception, waiters and waitresses, parking attendants) were friendly and professional. Mexican restaurant had fabulous, freshly-fried chips and salsa and enormous portions to match their prices (e.g., a $29 burrito that was probably at least twice the size of a normal burrito). The hotel decor feels dated, but I think that's in keeping with its historical themes. The only thing I didn't like was the pricing - the room rate was already high relative to other hotels, but a $25/day resort fee and $10/day wifi fee made my stay feel like it was not a good value. The people I traveled with were bothered by the noise from the courtyard into their rooms but I did not notice.

The stay started off with bad service from the front desk staff. It got much better once we checked in. The room was spacious and clean. The workout facility needs a lot of work. To have the name Resort & Spa, you'd expect a decent gym. The gym is lousy. First, you have to go outside and walk to the gym because there's no access through the lovely air conditioned hotel. When you get there, you'll find a small room with minimal equipment and no AC. It was 106 outside. That room had to be 115/120. Great meal at Duane's Steakhouse. Funny thing is you have to just show up. Tried booking a reservation online. Said there were none available. Called. They said they were full. Walked down and this very large, nice restaurant had 6 tables occupied. The host told us "Let me see if I can find you a table". That was our joke for the rest of the weekend. Besides that, the Mission Inn is amazing. The service was great. The rooms are great. The decor is breathtaking. I recommend this hotel to everyone and we'll definitely be back.

Wonderful old Inn. Our second stay here. Lots of history. Lots of stuff not working this time though. One elevator of two was out. The heater on the pool. The drain in our sink. Needs a heavy dose of routine maintenance.

Wife & daughter had a spa day with massages and facials, which they enjoyed thoroughly. I has breakfast in the restaurant (eggs benedict), read in our room, then joined them for an afternoon at the pool. Poolside food and service were excellent. Our room was on the 4th floor. Large room, tall ceilings, very comfortable king bed. 4th floor has many small charming patios and balconies for guests. The hotel's architecture and gardens are amazing & enjoyable. Beautiful flower arrangements in the restaurant and lobby. Good art. Dinner at Duane's steak house. Fantastic food & service. Front desk & valet staff were friendly and helpful. Valet parking added $40/day to our bill. Ouch. Maybe that's normal these days. Overall a very pleasant stay. We're returning in a month.

We always enjoy our stay at the Mission Inn and Spa. Checking in is a breeze. The hotel is convenient to the shops and restaurants we enjoy. The only downside is the valet service upon checkout. Turtles move faster.

This is a historic hotel and the hotel and common areas are stunning. The hotel has 3 restaurants and two bars, one of them offer food. The pool is nice and a nice size, also a hot tub. Spa in the hotel also.

The pool area needs to be pressure washed and treated for pests. I was ate up alive while lounging. I ordered breakfast4 times and all meals were poorly made & received cold. Also the carpet had a huge stain that could come out if shampooed and the rooms could be updated.

Beautiful historic property. Our room overlooked the pool and was pretty spacious although the bathroom is a little dated. They have a very nice pool and Jacuzzi area several eating options and a generally laid-back atmosphere in a grand hotel that’s been around many years.

I had high expectations as I've never stayed at the hotel before but had enjoyed the restaurants and spa in the past. The rooms are large and comfortably space however there was a visible stain on the rug and alsi the ceiling in the shower was not clean. The housekeeping woke jecup daily at 8am even though i had the do not disturb sign on the handle. I ordered room service for breakfast 3 times and I can honestly say the cooks did not prepare my breakfasts properly. I sent them back each time mostly not eaten because it was so bad. In my opinion if you can't prepare breakfast you do not belong in the kitchen. I went to the pool and i havev to say I was very disappointed in the condition of the pool area. The pool really need a good pressure wash and i was hitten up by mosquitoes all over my ankles. Other guests complained about the bites as well. Overall, the Mission Inn has definitely fallen off in my opinion. I hope they can get things together.

We weren’t able to check in until close to 2 hours after their specified check in time. I have a toddler and had to wait around until the room was ready. The room was dirty. It had dirty floors and a wall had splattered food on it. The showers body wash dispenser was broken. To top it off, the staff was very loud walking around and pushing loud carts by the room starting at 4 am. They were even playing music early while people are sleeping. This place is not worth the money. I wouldn’t have much to complain about if it didn’t cost upwards of $250 a night. That’s not reasonable at all. From the outside this is a beautiful building with so much art and history within it. I love what the Mission Inn is to Riverside, but I really didn’t love my stay, not for the price.

Couldn't book directly through their website because something was glitchy. Valet was not near entrance due to Festival of Lights, and no accommodation was apparent for mobility impairment, such as a golf cart. Check in line placement was awkward. Room wasn't ready until quite a while after check in time. Had to wait for luggage delivery after we finally got a room. Bathroom was dirty, had rusty items, and chipped paint. Windows were dirty and had lots of bug droppings on the sills. Chairs were dusty. Bottom window latch was not operational. Found an item on the carpet from another guest which makes me assume vacuuming wasn't done well. Sheets had stains. No complimentary bottles of water. No regularly expected information regarding hotel ammenities such as room service menu, map of facility or pay tv options was provided. No information about robes and slippers that were provided. Generally didn't feel comfortable due to the overall state of the room. Liked that the window opened. Liked the pillowcases. Liked the curtains. TV's in Fitness Center turned on but didn't have any content. Key pad didn't work to change the resistance on exercise bike. Did not use the spa or pool. Presidential Lounge and Las Campanas were okay with friendly service.

Outside the property is nice. Room was not at all what the picture shows. Cracked paint, bathroom needed a complete new paint job, shower walls had scum on all three walls. Door in bathroom was filled with peeling paint, cracks around the corner of the bath tub. I asked if the room had a small refrigerator and was assured it did, it didn’t, instead there was a an empty space where it should have been. The bed mattress was old and made cracking noises. This room was definitely not worth 474.00, an additional 40.00 for valet, and a 100.00 deposit which takes 3 to 5 days to get back. So very disappointing. I have stayed at much nicer hotels and paid half as much. Won’t be staying there again. What a shame. I felt it was a bait and switch. I give it 1.5 star rating. Save your money and stay at the Riverside convention center for half the price. Same area, better rates, Much nicer rooms.

We came here for a girlfriend’s birthday and the rooms are pretty filthy. I know it’s a historic and old hotel..but wow, we didn’t even feel comfortable showering. We made the best of it and ate at Bella Trattoria (pretty good!). The worst part is when we checked out the next day. We asked the front desk if we could see the 4th floor (rotunda gardens) because we heard it was pretty. She said yes. We went up there and within 5 mins, was confronted by security guards who asked us to show a room key to show we were guests. We said we JUST checked out downstairs minutes ago. He said since we are no longer guests and must leave immediately. Then he followed us to the elevator to insure we left! We were treated like trespassing criminals! They surrounded us in the lobby when we complained to the front desk about the treatment. They then said it was a misunderstanding that we were told we could go there…yet ZERO apology from security about the embarrassing treatment. They said it’s policy that once we check out, we can no longer go on the 4th floor?! Like what? Zero signs or anything posted saying we cannot go just to see it? Then the security guard said we cannot be taking photos with a “real camera” and only phones. He said we needed a photoshoot pass. One of our friends just had a regular camera and she in no way taking professional photos! Absolutely disgusted with the way we were treated and was an awful way to end our wkd after spending so much money on 2 rooms ($550+ each).

Beautiful hotel and wonderful history but would never stay here again. Our room was disgustingly dirty and unsafe. Thick dust clusters all over the walls over our beds. My son has asthma which was concerning to us. Hair all over the bathroom counter and in a folded bath towel, dirty hair tie in the closet, food pieces under the night stand and a pill on the floor by the bed! My four year old picked it up and showed us. He thought it was an M&m. Totally unacceptable and unsafe. What a shame because it is a beautiful hotel from the outside. It is almost impossible to miss these things when cleaning a room. Very disappointed, and the fact that “unfortunately, we cannot do anything because you booked through a third party”. Says a lot about their customer service and care for their guests.

We usually love the place but this time because I got the room through Expedia we were given the smallest room I've ever seen there. The toilet was about a foot off the floor which was awful for my 6'3" husband and there was no hewt or cooling as it was broken. We let the staff know and there was no reimbursement just a thank you for telling us. Probably won't stay there again

The hotel was beautiful and very elegant. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was clean. The only downside was the shower—it was quite outdated and had very low water pressure. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay with plenty of nearby restaurants to choose from.

Wifi was horrible even after they ungraded me. No microwave. TV had no apps. No Netflix, YouTube etc. Pillows felt like sacks full of cotton balls. The staff was excellent. The building is gorgeous but come on, bad wifi is unacceptable especially for a hotel of this caliber.

Beautiful hotel with great views and walking distance to plenty of bars and restaurants in Downtown Riverside. The Presidential Lounge makes a great espresso martini as well. But the room couldn’t have been worse. It was terribly outdated and musty, poor lighting, place felt dirty. For nearly $400/night for a basic room they could at least update the place. About the only upside was a refrigerator. Definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

I love this hotel so much that little could keep me from giving it 5-stars--which I have across the board. However, 2 issues--one within their control and one, maybe not. I booked this reservation on a third party site the day prior, but they did not have it when I arrived (even though I showed my confirmation #). I was informed there was a computer glitch--which would also explain the long delay to check in the guest before me. When it was my turn, having already waited an inordinate amount of time, I mentioned that we were in a hurry to make a concert. While the clerk was congenial, I did not get a sense of urgency on her part...especially when she then asked me to wait 15 minutes for them to fix the glitch. That really disappointed me, and I reiterated we didn't have time to wait and please just get me into a room and let them sort it out later. She checked with a supervisor, and finally we got into our room. But as a result we got the concert 30 mins late-- which was the thirty minutes that we had spent dealing with check in. *sigh* As for the other issue, we had a wonderful meal in the atrium with an outstanding server. However, we got attacked with ankle-biter mosquitoes (as did both adjacent tables). Which is why I put this in the slightly out of their control category. My only rec would be possibly add citronella candles around that help ward them off. It's unfortunate to bring up the two negatives, because it's STILL my favorite hotel in the whole world.

We have stayed here before and loved it. This time the room was not ready at 4, and other peoples rooms were not ready either. Well past 5pm before the room was ready. Also, there was a problem across the entire inn with the television service. No TV access at all. They kept telling us IT was working on the problem but it was never fixed between Friday night and our check out on Sunday Morning. Last, staff at check in desk was super slow. Maybe it was the computer system but it just shouldn't take that long and it wasnt just with me.

Our stay was excellent, from the checkin- in to check-out. The staff was exceptionally friendly, beginning with Art, who was so helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the hotel. We were able to check in two hours early. The room was spacious and the grounds were lush and gorgeous. We will definitely be returning!

1. The valet and bell desk were great. 2. Front desk staff were not professional or help at all. 3. Brunch wait staff were not courteous and we had to constantly look for wait staff because they weren’t around. 4. Seemed like staff in the restaurant or front desk didn’t want to be in customer service or hospitality. They’re just bodies collecting checks.

The checking-in process took awhile. The room had trash left in it so not sure if it was actual cleaned. Room service food trays lined up and down the hallways for a solid 24hrs. When we went to the brunch, the server didnt come up for 20min, and food was basic and unfavorful.

Check in was a nightmare, I was lied to by the staff repeatedly. I requested early check in (2pm) and was happy to pay the fee. Upon arrival @145pm I filled out the paperwork and was told you room will be ready in 20 minutes. No problem I walked around and stopped by the desk 3 more times each time being told your room isn’t quite ready. I then went to the Presidential Lounge to sit down and wait for a friend. My friend arrives (from Los Angeles) and tells me they already got there room and asked what floor I was on? As you might imagine I was a bit agitated. Went back to the front desk to inquire about my room 2 queens btw- exact same room as my friend “ sorry not quite ready yet”. Finally asked to speak with management and like magic my room was ready….. Overall, the hotel was cool- the staff and management are not.

I have been staying at the Mission Inn and using the spa facilities regularly since the hotel was renovated. I will no longer be returning to the hotel to stay. The service and food have become dreadful. On check in around 9:30 pm we were given our keys to our room, but once we got there, they did not work. Returned to desk and were given a new set which also did not work. Was assigned a different room which housekeeping had to check first. We finally got in a room at 1100 that night that smelt stale. Luggage took a while to get there because there was no bellhop now. Not fun for my tired 6 yr old. Breakfast in bed as a treat was ok other than 2 orders of very burnt hash browns. We pushed the breakfast cart out of the room just as housekeeping was by our room. I asked her for service and to leave 4 washcloths in our room. Upon returning to our room we found the breakfast cart still there (was not picked up till next morning) beds unmade and one single washcloth in our room. When I called I was told they did not have any clean but they could send me towels?? but of course, that didn't happen. Dinner in the Mission Inn restaurant resulted in an order of lamb I asked to be cooked medium being served raw. I would like to say it was rare but it wasn't even that. I sent it back and it came back medium rare. I was done by then and just ate it that way. I was extremely disappointed in the lack of acknowledgement of my issues and lack of customer service or efforts for recovery.

The entire experience was a beautiful one. First time here and I’m definitely returning back in February. The staff was absolutely lovely from the valet the the servers in the dinning room area. The only thing that I would say is that lobby staff in the front desk could be a lot more friendlier. Other than that, loved, loved this hotel! Thank you.

Made last minute reservation for single king-bed room as we arrived in Riverside for show at the Fox Performing Arts center. Although there were significantly cheaper rooms available at other nearby hotels, we had never stayed at the historic Mission Inn, only 2 blocks away from the Fox Performing Arts center. Valet parking was very friendly, easy & accommodating. Front Desk check-in was a breeze & we followed their suggestion to lunch at the hotel's Mexican restaurant. Ivan was our waiter. He was charming, friendly & made excellent menu suggestions & pairings. The room was simple (a bit monastic), but it was clean, furnished with period appropriate, dresser, desk, chair & accent table. For amenities, the room had hair dryer, 2 luxurious terry-cloth bath robes & slippers, traditional bathroom sundries, big screen TV, alarm clock, electronic device charging station, mini-refrigerator, iron/ ironning-board, safe, small self service mini-bar & snacks, as well as adjustable room thermostat. The room also had a large openable window with blackout curtains & a view of an adjacent public square. Although a room service menu was provided, the hotel does not have food service 24/7. Breakfast at another of the hotel's in-house restaurants was pretty nice. The service attention was excellent. Although the waffle was soft & chewy, the fresh fruit side, eggs & beverages were perfectly prepared & nicely presented. Check-out was simple & valets brought our car quickly. Worth the $.

Our stay was MAGICAL The entire hotel was amazingly beautiful with all the Christmas lights. The security staff was protective but kind.Our tour guide , Natalie, was very good . We really enjoyed our tour of the old parts of the Mission Inn. The difficulty finding a way to park and enter the hotel,due to the street closures was a challenge

Absolutely loved our stay and we were delighted to see the hotel decked out in Christmas decorations. It was a pleasant surprise and so festive. We stayed one night after a show at the Fox Theater. It was perfect to walk a block from the hotel to the theater. The area around the hotel was full of fun shops, restaurants and coffee places. Will definately go back!

Noise from the street was loud. Expedia's site said Wifi was free but a resort charge of $25/night was added onto the bill stating it was in part to pay for the Wifi. Paying $27/night for self parking was a bit high and the parking structure was across the street. So adding those two charges added on considerably to what I thought was an affordable room rate. Room was basic, clean and nice - the mini-fridge was an unexpected bonus. The a/c unit was loud but worked well. The shower/tub had a shower curtain and the other side had a window with a small curtain that only covered half the window. A bit disconcerting when showering especially since there's an outside stairway down to the pool just outside that window.

Although the waffle was soft & chewy, the fresh fruit side, eggs & beverages were perfectly prepared & nicely presented. Check-out was simple & valets brought our car quickly. Worth the $.

We really enjoyed our stay and the property is simply magical during the holiday lights season. Front desk was friendly and accommodating. However we had an odd experience even trying to dine at the Mission Inn cafe, we drove about 3 1/2 hours to get to the property and we’re checking in around 3:15 PM. By the time we checked in with the front desk, we walked over to try and grab a table for lunch and we’re told that they are no longer seating. mind you the lunch hours close at 4 PM. It was 332 and they told us that they stop seating at 3:30 a two minute difference they saw that we were with a baby and I mentioned that we had just driven 3 1/2 hours and we’re just trying to get something to eat and they did not care to accommodate us. They told us to come back when the dinner service opens which we did but then when we came back even though we asked for a table outside, they told us they can’t see us outside because they’re booked and a lot of people want to sit outside. OK so who gets to decide which people get to sit outside in which people don’t really odd experience with a girl upfront who just kept pushing back knowing that we already missed lunch by two minutes waited another 30 minutes, came back and she was still giving us a hard time. It was a really frustrating experience, but luckily, we had an absolutely amazing server who made our dinner very very pleasant. When we were leaving, there were at least six open tables that never got sat at during our time mind you.

We loved the historic nature of the property and the uniqueness of each room we have stayed in there. This time the room did not disappoint either. The Sunday brunch was excellent.

For the most part, I would give them five stars, but I did have a few complaints on the menus. Every menu in the room says the restaurant opens up at 6:30 AM but no one in the staff there shows up until 7 AM. That was a little bit ridiculous. The area in general nothing opens until seven so if you’re an early riser, trying to get out the door at six, pilots airlines business, etc. good luck getting anything to eat.

Really enjoyed the history and and the grounds of the property. Staff is helpful and polite the hotel tour was interesting and the champagne and the gift was a nice surprise. However in my Room the safe was broken (helpful to leave your valuables when you go to dinner or pool) and the room in general needs maintenance. The Mexican restaurant Las campanas have nice staff however they need a new chef food is not good. And the worst is the California lounge drinks are over priced I got a Don julio 70 shot and they charged $42 DOLLARS I never paid that much for that drink not even in at the Wynn on Las Vegas!! Nation wide average is: $17-25 The bartender was nice though. Other than that it’s good try at least once but NOT TO COMEBACK.

Shabby, rundown hotel. Service was excruciatingly slow at the front desk, bar and restaurant. We stayed at this hotel to see the holiday decorations, which were very beautiful. Our room was large, with a sofa but the layout was odd. For example, we could not see the TV from the sofa, only the bed. We had drinks at the Presidential Lounge. The drinks were terrible and the service was worse. Dinner at Duane's, the steak and seafood restaurant was infuriating. It is very expensive, which we knew going in. An 8 oz. filet mignon costs $76. We are getting older, so we typically share meals. Duane's charges $20 to split an entree and $20 TO SPLIT A SIDE - to slice a baked potato in half. My husband ordered the filet and potato. I ordered a plate. When we were seated the diners next to us left. For the entire hour and forty-five minutes we were there (waiting and waiting and waiting) that table sat un-bused, with the dirty dishes and napkins in my direct line of sight. This is Applebee's level dining at tippy top prices. The steak was good, the potato average.

The pool area needs to be pressure washed and treated for pests. I was ate up alive while lounging. I ordered breakfast4 times and all meals were poorly made & received cold. Also the carpet had a huge stain that could come out if shampooed and the rooms could be updated.

The Mission Inn is nothing short of magical. It was the perfect weekend getaway. The property is historic and there are plenty of great dining options.

Wonderful property with easy access to some fun gems. Food on property is wretched and some of the staff clearly have no hospitality training. Valet is extremely convenient and the day spent in the hotel was lovely.
