Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites-Saint Joseph by IHG

We always try to stay in a Holiday Inn Express, as we feel they provide a great value for the money spent. This location was mediocre. My husband and kids always enjoy the hot breakfast, but everything else left something to be desired. The pool wasn't clean, there was a film on the water when it's not in use, and did not make me want to allow my children to use it. We checked in on a Monday, and I had to ask on Thursday to have the room serviced, as housekeeping had not been in at all. Daily, we had to ask for towels (one day I was even told I could not have 1 towel for each person in my room, I could only have 2 as they did not have enough), and we had to put our trash outside of our room each morning and ask for new trash can liners. Overall, we were happy with the location and our stay, but I was disappointed in the care that the staff put into taking care of their guests. It certainly didn't feel like the value for our dollar that we typically get when staying at a Holiday Inn Express.

Everything was great and could tell it was just remodeled. Very clean and staff was great and attentive. We had the lakeview room with a nice patio we enjoyed overlooking the lake. Only downside was parking is pretty far in the back and the handicap spots were also far in the back not near any entrance after the electric vehicle & club member spots. Breakfast was nice they had a pancake machine vs waffle maker i hadnt seen that before. Also warm cinnamon rolls were delish. Will stay there again.

Parking is not the greatest but I have seen much worse. That’s my only complaint.

Stay was good. Pool was quiet and clean.

The pool and hot tub are a highly used area in any hotel. The bottom of pool had algae or what appeared to be green slime in it. The hot tub had mold algae above water line. I get the remodel going on but not the pool/hot tub! Gross!

Good hotel, not a great parking situation. It appeared that disabled parking spots had been moved further from the front door to make room for electric vehicle charging. Not sure how this can be up to code.

Work out room is limited and REALLY hot.

Old hotel, rooms, heavily used, very mediocre. Lightbulb out in one lamp, ice maker did not work, found another icemaker, and it didn’t work either. Not what you would call a nice hotel. This said breakfast was very good. Had real bacon and eggs. Overpriced for a Wednesday and February.

Room was in the process of being updated. Bathroom had several issues - broken tile on floor, glass shower door did not shut properly allowing shower water to wet floor, shower wall was broken & someone tried fix (poorly). Door to room was very stuck & finally had to put some shoulder into it to get it open. Got stuck twice in the bathroom when the door would not open. Breakfast bar layout is poor and needs revamped. The luggage carts are very rickety & parts are broke off of it. We wondered if it was going to hold our luggage. They are in the process of renovating but the place needs help right away.

We couldn’t check in 30min early since the room wasn’t “ready” but yet there were no cars in the parking lot. We stayed during the week so I don’t think it was even crowded. Also, the hot tub jets did not work well/string. The room itself was fine/clean and comfortable.

This place was pretty decent and normal overall but I had tile in my room and it was so dirty the bottom of a brand new pair of white socks turned black walking on it. We asked them to clean the floors, which they did, but even wiping up the water after a shower the towel was nasty and covered in dirt. I had two babies with me. Nasty floors is the last thing you want your babies crawling around on. Also, there was chunks of toilet paper splatted on the wall and bathroom door

Dirty shower and dirty floors. Found a Cheerio next to my bed. Fun fact: we didn’t eat Cheerios on this trip.

The location is great. The view is wonderful. The hotel and our room was less than expected. It was very old and dated. The biggest issue we had, our bathroom ceiling was covered with mold!! When I said something, the lady just nodded her head up and down and said sorry. Nothing else She didn’t even attempt to remedy the situation.

There are better options in the area than here. For over $200 for one night, you would expect better food and a clean room. Our beds had left over hair from previous guests, what appeared to be make up marks, dirt, food whatever on the sheets. I don’t believe they changed the sheets at all. The bathroom was filthy. There was hair ALL over, the shower, sink, floors. The mini fridge did not work at all. The elevator sounds like it’s going to fall apart as you take it. If i could leave zero stars i would. The food was bare minimum, and served on paper plates. Not eco friendly at all.

Door to my room did not fully close unless I applied extra pressure. The room was not attractive. The shower shelf was gritty. The AC unit was noisy. I would have expected these kinds of things had I paid half as much for the room. Not a good value for the money.

Floors were dirty, ceiling fan covered in dust, vent above jetted tub had dust hanging off of it which fell on the tile behind the jetted tub, jetted tub had pubes in it and the tile on the floor had a big sticky spot. Mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, in the shower and on the curtains. Cob webs on the ceiling. Microwave and fridge not cleaned. Bed skirt had rips on it and the couch had stains. Ants on the tile and gnats in the bathroom. Disgusting and no refund.

This is an older property. Some carpeting has been updated, but it definitely needs some updating and repairs. There were large chunks of missing veneer on the refrigerator/tv cabinet and in the elevator. There was some mold in the upper corner of the shower. The shower drain was clogged.

The hotel is convenient and close to silver beach. Was disappointed in the smell of the room. Also it wasn't very clean. Spots on sheet,dirty bathroom

The room itself was not given a thorough cleaning before we checked in. There were socks leftover from a previous persons stay and there were grapes in the sink. It didn't look like it was vacuumed either. There were bugs everywhere, which I get can't be helped. The additional room with a bunk bed was weird. It was just wasted space.

Not what I expected from a Holiday Inn! Musty smell in the room. Hotel in not well kept.

Nice room great view

The room was amazingly spacious. The updated shower was wonderful. My only small critique was that when I walked around the room, the cabinet/tv area would make a creaking sound. I just thought that that would be more annoying for the room next to us, than us. The location near the lake and close to St. Joseph was perfect.

The bed was comfy but when we opened the slider to our lakeview room balconey we discovered how busy the highway is and it's noisy. There were what looked like donut sprinkles still on the carpet in front of the rooms desk but the room was clean besides that. They did let us check in a few hours early which was very nice as the weather went south and rained all afternoon. If you don't mind the traffic noise it's a great view.

The hotel is one of our favorites. It is being remodeled right now so there were things not up to snuff. We couldn’t get on the internet, and some of the charging plugs didn’t work. But it’s still a great hotel and we will continue to frequent it!

Loved the balcony and renovated room

The room was clean. Can tell the hotel is a little older but we enjoyed the stay. There are outlooks along the lake very close to the hotel.

the location of the building with the traffic all day and night was dreadful, we couldn't enjoy sitting on the balcony and enjoy the lake view without the interruption of the traffic. just terrible

The balconcy was so nice to eat our breakfast out there and watch the lake. TV was nice and big. We were comft and had a great time.

The hotel was in a convenient location and the staff, for the most part, was excellent. However, I left some clothes in the closet when we departed. I called the hotel as soon as we got home to let them know exactly what the items were and where they were located. I gave them my contact info and never heard back. I have a relative in the area that could have picked up the items so they didn't have to ship anything. That was 5 weeks ago. It's a bit disappointing that someone thought it was more important to keep my items rather than return them. That shows a complete lack of integrity. As much as we liked staying here I now have a trust issue with this specific property.

Staff was very nice and accomodating. Hotel was clean and we loved our room. The woman working the dinning and breakfast in the morning was absolutely sweet kind and attentive, she really takes pride in providing excellent customer service.

The property was very clean, staffing was friendly, breakfast was good and staffing kept up with replenishing as needed. Traveling alone for the first time in 55 years and I felt very safe and secure.

The check-in started a little rocky, hotels.com had not sent the hotel my reservation. However, after a few minutes Jake at the front desk was able to get everything taken care of. Overall, we had a nice stay. We typically stay at a different hotel while in St. Joe but that hotel is under construction, that led us to this Holiday Inn which is close to downtown, clean, friendly staff. We may have found our new favorite hotel while in St. Joe!

Everything was very nice until 11 pm. Clean, nice staff, comfortable room. Then the neighboring room started having a party. The staff relocated us to another room. We appreciated their response.

The check in process was quick. Pulling in is awkward as the space is limited by renovation supplies stacked in the overhang. And to park you have to pull out on a busy road to loop back to get into the parking lot. The closer spots have dumpsters in the or very limited plowed spots. The hotel is in middle of renovations and not very clean. There was no notice of that. We had a very hostile and uncomfortable in with the woman at the front desk and another staff member stood between myself and my toddler to chastise me because she didn’t have on shoes. Multiple witnesses to this. I returned to our room to quickly pack and we promptly left the premises. I will never return there.

We have stayed there several times and always had a good experience. Bed was so comfortable, I'm contactimhthe manager to find out name of mattresses. Good breakfast that's included!

My wife and I stayed the past weekend. We did have a slight problem with ants in our first room that was on the first floor. The front desk agent took care of it right away when we talked to them about it. They switched our room to the third floor. The rest of our stay was great, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the St Joseph area. The views of lake Michigan or an added bonus!!

We were stuck here for 2 extra days because of a blizzard. The staff came in special just to get our breakfasts ready, and gave us lots of help, and good rates due to not being able to leave because of deadly weather conditions. The staff was amazing. We really appreciated that they came in during such horrific weather!

Excellent location by Lake Michigan. But though updated room, some refinishing of doors was yet to be done.

We really enjoyed our stay. The view of Lake Michigan was beautiful. We were close to the downtown area of Saint Joseph where we enjoyed a delicious dinner at a roof top restaurant.

We paid extra for this hotel because it was on the lake. It is not on the lake like you would think. There is no lake access and our room was all the way in the back of the building. Don’t pay extra, because it’s not worth it. There are lots of cheaper hotels. The room the pool and hot tub are in is HOT and it’s hard to breathe because of it. My grandsons swam once for a few minutes and refused to swim anymore. We booked a room for 4 that actually could sleep many more but there were only three towels. Our friend we were traveling with had the same issue and her shampoo and conditioner were empty. When she asked the front desk, they asked her to come get it because they didn’t have anyone to bring it to her. Breakfast goes until 9:30 so sleeping in is not an option. The first day, they ran out of bacon and biscuits by 8:45 she said she wasn’t going to make anymore. When I told her the bacon was my grandsons favorite, she made some but acted like she was doing us a big favor. We did appreciate it but at $266 a night, it’s not unreasonable to expect the breakfast to have food. I will say the room was pretty nice except our refrigerator went out at some point and we lost all our beach sandwiches and cheese. The ice maker closest to our room didn’t work. The beds were comfortable and we liked the little patio because we put our towels out to dry. Unfortunately, the view outside was a big shipping container and construction. The bar and restaurant next door was not open.

Good location with a nice view of Lake Michigan. Property is clean and in fair shape but in need of an update. The free breakfast was a little hectic the person taking care of it did an great job of keeping it stocked.

The staff was great! However they need more staff to help with the breakfast. There was only one lady working the breakfast on a very busy weekend, with all rooms booked. The lady working in the breakfast area was very hard working, but a manager or someone else should've stepped in to help. The organization with the breakfast should be handled better, one person cannot keep up with replenishing all the food and supplies for all of the guests.

Breakfast for a small hotel was actually very good. The biscuits would almost make you believe they are homemade and they have an automatic pancake making machine. I booked a jacuzzi suite for a couple days away from Chicago with me and my wife and i was pleased with the room even though it wasnt one of the updated rooms as this property is going through a massive renovation which leads me to my next point of noise after 8 or 9 in the morning was a off putting but the front desk person told us about the construction and noise at check in. Overall the property once fully renovated will be one i will visit often. It is right across from the lake and views are beautiful.

The breakfast was very good. The bathroom floor in our room was cracked, and the fixtures were a bit old, but the room was very clean and appealing. One staff member at the breakfast bar was extremely loud and was speaking on her phone, but the rest of the breakast and hotel staff were extremely helpful, supportive and welcoming. We would definitely stay at this Holiday Inn again in the future.

This hotel has a wonderful location but it lacked in cleanliness. We realize that the hotel was under renovation; however, there was dirt and materials all over the floor. We believe the staff could have tidied up for the weekend guests. It was very disappointing. Also, the room was spacious but the bathroom was small; the shower leaked because the shower curtain was too short for the stall--could be an easy fix. Breakfast was very good; the staff person was responsive and kind. The experience was a mixed bag.
