Fairmont Mayakoba

This is a beautiful resort. Our accommodations (casita overlooking the canal) were spacious and spotless. Restaurant choices and food (with a few exceptions) was excellent. The exceptions were the breakfast buffet (very expensive, busy and crowded, with less-than-attentive service), and single meals at both Gaia and Tauro. Our first meal at Gaia was outstanding, and we received excellent service from the manager regarding the less-than-outstanding meal. Meals at Bassano, La Laguna, Fuego, and Hix were all superb, in terms of food preparation/presentation as well as service. We also noted the presence of an above-average number of staff to maintain the property in its excellent condition. We spent the majority of our time on the Nature Trail in the morning, then at the Adult Pool in the afternoons. It was a bit disappointing with the Adult Pool was closed for corporate functions (lots of those held here) The Family Pool at La Laguna is great for kids. The beach was somewhat disappointing, due to both the seaweed and the barriers which have been erected to keep it away from the beach……just not scenic. We did not spend much time there, as a result (but many other people did and appeared to be enjoying it). The sand is lovely (when it is not covered in seaweed!). The staff did a heroic job of attempting to keep the beach free of plants but this really does not seem to be easy to do. We found the staff to be extremely and genuinely welcoming and warm.

I was disappointed that the main pool area was closed as well as three of the dinner restaurants and the buffet breakfast restaurant. As a result, there was limited food options. I would not have booked the resort if I knew this.

Service: A) Spent 20 mins trying to contact someone to order room service for breakfast at 8:15 am and could not get a hold of anyone. Did not receive a call back. B) Multiple requests on restaurants went unanswered: example, additional coffee or water. C) Drink services by the pool are subpar. Started ordering two drinks at a time since I was not sure how long it will take them to come back. Drink service by the beach was nonexistent for three out of the four days we were there: One waiter every 2 or 3 hours. Property A) Main pool complex and 3-4 restaurants closed for renovations. While I understand this is low season and why they are close for renovations I think this information should be clearly communicated while booking rather than after arrival to the hotel. One of the days could not sit by the pool since all the spots were taken (main pool was closed) -Wi-Fi is spotty at best in our rooms -AC in the rooms is not working properly. The best explanation I got is that there is a sensor that if it does not detect activity for a set number of hours it will turn the AC off until it reaches a set temperature. We set the AC to 68 and work fine during the day (as long as there was movement in the room?), at night it will get to 71 or 72 before it started working again. Positive: -Installations are well kept -Food is great, especially at Tauro and Gaia -Service on some areas of the hotel are excellent (what you would expect): Cafe maya, Gaia and Tauro for example

The resort is beautiful and clean. The rooms are spacious. The staff is amazing and does everything they can for each person. Food is very good and overall a good value. We went during off season so not much to do in the evenings beyond dinners (for teenagers) but besides that, we would go again!

What we loved most about this property was its natural beauty and ecosystem layout. It’s divided into three main areas, each with its own charm. The main hotel area is calm and well-designed, with two restaurants, a spa, and a peaceful pool that’s often empty—perfect for a quiet break. The boat dock allows for a tour of the property that you will want to schedule with the attendant located by the dock. This is also where you will pick up bikes and chauffeur golf carts to travel throughout the property. The carts and bikes were extremely convenient and so much apart of the charm. The second area is centered around a large pool complex with separate family and adult pools, two more restaurants, and a cozy café. We loved the quiet view from the adult pool and an afternoon Affogato from Maya‘s Café. The beach club is the standout. The pool overlooks a wide stretch of beach with plenty of room to relax or play. We enjoyed all of the activities, including the catamaran (an 30ish minute tour was complementary and booked same day) and a sunrise paddleboard out to the core reef (fee based)—Darwin was a great guide. Around the property, you’re still within the Mayakoba and we felt extremely safe and relaxed taking walks on the nature trail pre-dinner and riding bikes to the cenote.

We recently stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba to celebrate my wife's birthday and had an exceptional experience. One of the highlights was playing golf at the spectacular Camaleón Golf Course, which offered a challenging and enjoyable round amidst stunning scenery. The service at the hotel was impeccable, with staff going above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and memorable. There are numerous dining options available, catering to a variety of tastes and preferences, making each meal a delightful experience. The large pool area is well-designed, providing ample space so that guests never feel crowded. This was especially important given the many activities available for kids, ensuring they had plenty to do while we relaxed. The gym and spa facilities are top-notch, offering a wide range of equipment and treatments for those looking to stay active or unwind. Overall, I highly recommend Fairmont Mayakoba for anyone looking to enjoy a luxurious and relaxing vacation without needing to venture out frequently. Everything you need is right on the property, making it an ideal destination for an stress-free getaway.

Great hotel but my casita smelled mold.

Stunning property set in a lush jungle environment. Dreamy surroundings with beautiful landscaping, both manicured and natural. Meticulous housekeeping services, spotless rooms. Seemingly endless choices of restaurants. Gracious, genuine, warm hearted staff, everyone with a smile on their face and willing to help. Highly recommend.

Fabulous resort, we were kindly upgraded to a casita and it was stunning - maid service twice a day, in the evening our ice bucket would be filled . Our rooms were clean and spacious with quality fittings and beautiful balconies where we could sit and listen to the sounds of the jungle. The staff, without exception were friendly and helpful. Valet parking easy and efficient, and they would give us water and towels if going out for the day. On return, they would say “ welcome home “! Food delicious, especially the breakfast buffet ( Christina’s omelettes are second to none !) which was extensive and set us up for the day. The beach was gorgeous , pools clean and the areas well maintained and so pretty. We didn’t want to leave.

One annoying issue, however, there was a strong mold smell in our room, likely affecting many casitas’ bottom floor units (we tried two). May try a top floor room next time

Beautiful property. So many pools. Big and small. Huge beach! Lots of chairs. Service was the best I’ve ever experienced and I have travelled a lot. The property is recently renovated and extremely well maintained. Very clean. The food in all the restaurants was amazing. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had!

This property is huge. Nature is fantastic. Good is really good for an all inclusive package. Premium food and drinks. Rooms are amazing, the lower level casitas have an amazing outdoor shower which brings a unique experience. I totally recommend this amazing hotel.

We stayed here 15 years ago and loved it then, it has only gotten even better if that is possible! The staff were excellent, so helpful and accommodating at every turn, always smiling. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms near the lobby and it was fantastic! Gorgeous bathrooms, so luxurious. Loved the pools by the beach and the food and drink service pool or beachside. The grounds are luscious, beautiful birdsong everywhere. Our only regret is we didn't stay longer. We will definitely return sooner than 15 years!

Excellent service, great location - Air conditioning sub par for this kind of year long humid temperature. Most guests complained as the temperature in the room wont go below 75 which is high for sleeping. Bedroom was not bad but the living room was too hot for us hence the 4 stars otherwise FULL 5 stars.

Great property and fantastic staff. Very relaxing vacation, can't wait to go back

I waited a week before posting this review to allow the property sufficient time to address a significant billing issue. Unfortunately, I am still awaiting a refund of $1,500 that was incorrectly charged to my account. Despite being told the "mistake" would be corrected immediately, no resolution has been made. I strongly encourage guests to review their final bill and ensure any discrepancies are resolved before departure. While the property and the service were outstanding, there were several disappointing aspects of our experience. Check-in was particularly unpleasant. We arrived at 9:00 AM after a long journey, and although the hotel was only 40% occupied, we were not allowed to access our room early. Instead, we were directed to change in the public lobby restroom. This was extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate 5 guests were forced to change in an area with no privacy, with luggage spread out on the corridor. A basic courtesy, such as offering a temporary room would have gone a long way in demonstrating hospitality and professionalism. Additionally, the breakfast buffet was very disappointing — the selection was limited, the quality was poor, and the standards were far from "exceptional" rated hotel.I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Dmitri and the team at the beachfront restaurant. We were accommodated to have breakfast there for the duration of our stay.Dmitri and his team exemplified what true hospitality looks like with their warm, genuine service.

Beautiful property but massive and requires shuttling around, which may be fine but the shuttles were inconsistent and sometimes required long waits. The service was shockingly underwhelming and frustrating for a 5 star hotel. The food was okay but not great, and very overpriced for what it was. The beach was great and plenty of shade and loungers available. The whole experience was just inconsistent. We will not be returning.

Beautiful resort with incredible service! Rodrigo, Gilberto, Anthony and the rest of the Mayakoba staff made the trip amazing. Can not go wrong with visiting Mayakoba. We will be back again.

The Fairmont Mayakoba is a 5 star resort. We were there for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Check-in to Check-out was amazing with no issues. Customer service is excellent. Everyone was very kind, helpful, and happy to help. We upgraded to a Casita room which was so worth it. The resort is absolutely stunning. It's like being in a different planet. Transportation by bike or golf cart was easy and accessible. Never had to wait long. The food and drink were amazing as well. We will surely be back soon.

Just returned home from Mayakoba and we absolutely loved it! The property is beautiful and the rooftop bar looking over the ocean was our favourite! Arrive at 6 pm for a complimentary mixology class and then sip your cocktail while enjoying the stunning sunset. We also loved our complimentary river cruise throughout Mayakoba. In my opinion, The Fairmont is the most beautiful of the four hotels. We didn't have a problem finding loungers throughout the day by the pools or beach. They don't allow you to reserve them, so there's always options. The restaurants were delicious, we loved them all. And the staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend The Fairmont Mayakoba if you're looking for quiet luxury in Mexico.

Air conditioning was tricky and medicore/stuffy. I couldn't figure out how to turn on the ceiling fan. I couldn't find the switch. Everything was so far away. Always walking and asking for rides, then feeling guilty about tipping (there should be a NO tipping policy). Everyone was expecting tips and handouts. The taxi situation to town was a pain and they showed up late. Nearly messed up my plans. Felt trapped in the hotel and there was nothing easy to eat casually. The beach was nice and service with amenities was great (paddle boards, kayaks, etc). Buffet was mediocre. Kept having to ask for butter - which sounds silly but it wasn't available unless we ask (toast, pancakes, etc). The check in and out process was a pain. They make you sit while they 'find a room and talk and give you a fruit drink'. I just want to check in and get to my room. It souldn't be an 'experience'. The "Resort Fee and Ecological Fee" was silly. Felt like I was getting scammed with added fees. I always felt like I was trapped and every time I left my room I needed to spend money.

Great staff and beautiful location

We checked in at Fairmont Mayakoba on August 2 and were very disappointed with our experience. Our room had a serious issue with ants and mosquitoes, and my daughter was badly bitten. We immediately requested a room change. The staff told us they would try to arrange one by 9 PM that night, but it didn’t happen. They then said they would call us at 9 AM the next morning, so we waited and didn’t unpack. In the end, we were moved to a very basic and small room with a view completely blocked by a tree. We had paid for a resort-view room and expected a higher standard. The hotel clearly had many vacant rooms due to the off-season and hot August weather, yet we were given one of the least desirable options. This has been a very poor customer service experience, and we feel we did not receive the value we paid for. The new room was far below the category and quality we had booked. Food is overpriced and average; best to eat in-room or at the beach. Mosquitoes are overwhelming in August, the resort is far from downtown, no Uber is available, and taxis are expensive. Overall, not worth the price.

Service throughout the resort is A as are many resorts in the area. Overall layout of the resort is a mortal flaw that really cannot be corrected. Most rooms are at least a 15-20 minute walk to the beach and are built on a swamp (which they call canals) With this being the case, the rooms are far removed from the real reason that guests visit....the ocean/beach! Shame on us for not looking at a map prior to but had we realized this we would not have booked. The golf cart transit logistics really take away from a relaxing/enjoyable experience. The overall theme for the resort is to book you in for a reasonable amount and then hit you from all angles for food, beverage, and fee costs. Be prepared for at least $1500-2000 in additional room charges (food, beverage, fees) for a family of four over a 4 night stay. $30 average hamburgers and $18 poolside pina coladas really take away from enjoyable experience. Overall there are many other resorts options that offer far superior experience for less costs. We have visited several other resorts in the area that we have been repeat visitors to....The Fairmont Mayakoba will not be one of them. Sadly, knowing what we know now we regret staying here.

The location of everything at the resort was excellent. The beach was just far enough away where you could take a bike ride using one of the resort bikes, walk, or shuttle. We spent most of our time there enjoying the beach club, using the SUP's kayaks, snorkel tour and swimming. We can't wait to come back!

I loved this all inclusive resort due to the beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. The staff were definitely on top of everything. We enjoyed the wonderful and delicious room service. The restaurant choices were great. Tauro the steak restaurant was pur favorite. I loved that the resort was not over crowded or loud. This was a very relaxing and enjoyable spot. Fernando and Jeronimo were amazing bartenders at the swim up bar. We will definitely be back.

This is a wonderful place. But not perfect. Fairmont Mayakoba is not a value proposition. The one star deduction is for the ridiculous prices in the restaurants. The most expensive and the biggest disappointment is the steak house Tauro. Very mediocre food paired with laughable prices. Overall, wonderful place on most aspects. Just plan strategically.

A Truly Memorable Stay – Highly Recommended! We recently stayed at this beautiful hotel and had a fantastic time with the family (2 adults and 2 kids – 14 & 9 years old). From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The service was top-notch — every staff member we encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to make our stay special. The room and hotel facilities were excellent, with everything impeccably maintained and thoughtfully designed for comfort and enjoyment. The beach is beautiful, and we really appreciated the hotel’s efforts to combat sargassum and keep the shoreline clean and inviting, which allow us to enjoy the ocean every day during our stay. One of the biggest highlights was the dining experience. The variety and quality of the food was outstanding, something you rarely find in an all-inclusive. Each meal felt like a culinary treat, with fresh ingredients, creative menus, and beautiful presentation. You can make reservations in advance for the hotel restaurants via OpenTable, which is a big plus. On the other side, waiting time for breakfast can be a bit long (up to 30 minutes) since there is only one restaurant included in the all-inclusive package. And mosquitoes can get bad at La Laguna restaurant so be prepared if you sit outside. But overall, we couldn’t be happier with our stay. Fully recommended—we’ll definitely be back!

The nature around is beautiful, the property is not stroller friendly, there are no ramps to some of the restaurants They dont clean the rooms much, just the bare minimum like chnaging towels The food is phenomenal The all inclusive package does not include everything which is confusing and frustrating because you have to keep asking whats included

Beautiful property. So many pools. Big and small. Huge beach! Lots of chairs. Service was the best I’ve ever experienced and I have travelled a lot. The property is recently renovated and extremely well maintained. Very clean. The food in all the restaurants was amazing. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had!
