Muthu Newton Hotel (Near Inverness Airport)

The staff was lovely but the facility is in dire need of renovations. Stains and holes all over carpets furniture and walls. There was also no WiFi available the 48 hours we were there and we were told it never works.

Lovely hotel in a quiet location with loads of parking but you could walk to the town. we really enjoyed the stay, were a bit wary having read past reviews. This is a coach stop hotel and the main downside as they book the coach party in for dinner at 7pm so we could not get a dinner reservation until 8.45pm which was really to late after travelling all day but we were DBB.

Staff is great. Location is excellent - a short walk through the woods and the golf course - and your at the beach.

Elevator to the second floor, but still had a few small sets of stairs and doorways to navigate after getting off elevator, so easier to travel with carry on size luggage than full size if in certain wings of hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Wifi was non existent - 3 devices couldn’t connect. Tv doesn’t have many channels, but we didn’t need it. Beautiful grounds and property, easy to park.

The systems and staff are a well oiled machine. Its a pity the actual main building is a bit tired and in need of some care and maintenance. Obviously we were mainly in the restaurant areas and both could use a spring clean, de cob web, maybe new carpets and some painting.

Overall a lovely experience and a great starting point for our NC500 tour. Ideal location for two exhausted travelers getting off a plane and into a rental car at Inverness airport. Lovely ambience and stylish interior, cosy and very clean room, and absolutely stunning grounds. We recommend for sure!

Gorgeous stay with a feel for nature. Three highland coos right in the front yard, which is vast and gorgeous with a peak of the water in the distance. Walkable to the beach. Lovely afternoon tea. Comfortable rooms with lots of options. Best choice!!

Overall the property was great! They had some hairy cows outside the property (which are harder to find than you think). The property is very near to the ocean - not that it is swimmable but it was a nice beach walk.

Enjoyed our stay with dinner and breakfast. Was good value for money on a deal we got. Liked walking around the grounds and lovely building.

The staff are very attentive; however, the hotel’s facilities leave much to be desired: the carpets are torn in some areas, the same goes for some armchairs, and the furniture in general is very worn out. The pictures all over the internet, including their website and Expedia, display a beautiful and spacious room with elegant, updated furniture. What we got was a room in the “cottages,” where the rooms were teeny tiny, dirty, and the room needed a desperate update. The outside of the hotel is beautiful and although the furniture in the main hotel building may have been more tacky than elegant, it was nowhere near what our room looked. The first thing we noticed was that the “cottage” building needed an update, as we walked into the dark and dingy hallway to our room. Not only was the light in the hallway out, but we also noticed that the Ubuntu wifi router was out as well. We had ZERO wifi in our room. As I mentioned earlier, the room was dirty. How dirty? Dirty that we found a bed bug. By the time we found it, it was late at night and we were only there for one night (thank god). We mentioned all of this during our check out. The front desk girl took a picture of the picture I took of the bed big we had found. She said she would send it to her manager. I still have not heard back from the manager and I find this to be really unprofessional. At least reach out and apologize….

Expensive for what it was, £151.00 B&B for a small tired room, Bathroom was tired with water leaking from the shower (likely just needed a washer) an electrical panel in the bathroom open to the elements and the wall tiles hadnt been cleaned in a while, the carpet in one of the hallways was torn and patched, food in the bar was OK but Bar was understaffed for the number of American Guests who arrived on a coach trip, This couldnt have been a surprise so appeared to be either bad planning, or cost cutting measures

A large old hotel, set in beautiful grounds with view of the sea. Looks a place set up for weddings but had only a dozen or so guests. Reception and bar staff, super friendly and helpful. Room was a little dated but most importantly in relation to cost was super. Really clean, all amenities and a great shower. Breakfast was again excellent, helpful and attentive staff. Thoroughly recommend this place. For the price it's the best stay we have had in a long while

Disappointing - not a 4 star hotel I’ve been coming to Nairn for over 20 years and this is my first time staying in the Muthu Newton hotel. We were given a courtyard room which was outdated, mouldy, unclean and generally in need of a major refurb. We paid £165 per night for a room barely worth £30 per night. We spoke to the receptionist about moving rooms. They consulted the manager who said we would need to pay an extra £10 per night to change rooms. We emphasised we were not wanting an upgrade - our room was frankly unclean, not up to standard and finally we were able to change rooms without charge. We were moved to a room in the main building which was better, but still not to the standard of a 4 star hotel. It still wasn’t particularly clean, the towels smelled and generally needed updated. The staff at breakfast were friendly and helpful, but the breakfast was poor and not cooked well. This hotel has the potential to be beautiful, particularly with the location, but desperately needs a major refurb across the entirety of the hotel.

Quite honestly one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at, which is surprising considering the good reviews. The hotel is dirty, carpets are not fitted properly and are torn, corners unfinished, rooms falling apart, unhelpful staff and strange smells throughout the property. I was utterly shocked. The only good thing that I can say is that the surrounding area is beautiful and the hotel is right on the beach which is absolutely stunning.

In need of serious tic. broken doors to the shower, cracked wash hand basin, torn bath mat, torn curtain. Need I say more about our bed room. Grass growing out of the gutters resulting in choked down pipes. Stayed there for 4 nights and main toilets next to the lounge out of action all the time. This hotel needs a total revamp and is certainly not 4 star. Won’t be going there again.

Hotel and staff were very pleasant and helpful. The chef, I believe his name was Ollie?, was thoughtful and helpful with a special request. The only complaint I have is that we were given a room above the function room and the music was quite loud until midnight due to a wedding.

The property is typically Scottish with turrets and grandeur. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are large and beds super comfortable.

The courtyard room we had was a bit dated, it was noisy from neighbouring rooms and a strange pump/motor kicked in every 30 mins day and night. The room didnt get serviced in our two days. This part of Nairn is a lovely location but the stay felt a bit basic for £135 a night

Bed great. Shower so-so. No shower, get in bathtub for shower. No grab bars--a must for older visitors. No coffee making apparatus in room. Breakfast NOT included in price. Mostly though, it is an old building and, while clean, it has that old building musty wet smell. Big time. Everything a bit wet and sticky to the touch. But, it was a bed on short notice. Would look for alternatives a bit more aggressively in the future.

I think I was expecting a lot more from the room just by looking at the outside of the building but it ended up being pretty average if not below average, room was clean but furniture was very old, TV was very small and beds were very average. Like I said I think I expected more by viewing the outside of the castle Hotel thankfully I didn't pay full price

We were touring around and this was a great location, with the beaches of Nairn nearby and good connections to travel wider afield to Inverness and Loch Ness in one direction and Aviemore in the other. The facilities were what you'd expect and we enjoyed the bar and dining in the restaurant on both nights we stayed there - excellent food and service. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, with our many questions about places to go etc. It was also fascinating to learn about the link with Charlie Chaplin, and I would happily stay there again.

We arrived to find that we were in the courtyard rooms, no room in the hotel despite booking in June. An alarm went off during the night and we were kept awake with the boiler going on and off. The Manager did manage to find us a room for the second night which was very nice. We were a party of 3 rooms and on leaving found that the whole bill for food and drinks had been added to our bill despite giving the waitress room details at the dining room. Not a happy experience.

I recently stayed at Muthu Newton, and sadly, it was a very underwhelming experience. From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt neglected, with décor that was old, tired, and in desperate need of an update. The atmosphere was drab, and it didn't feel welcoming at all. The service was equally disappointing. The staff seemed completely disinterested in assisting us with even the simplest requests. Whether it was help with our luggage or inquiries about the area, their attitude was indifferent, making it feel like we were an inconvenience rather than guests. The dining options were extremely limited. The hotel had only a small restaurant with few available time slots for dinner. We were given only a single time slot, which didn’t suit our plans at all. It was frustrating to have such poor flexibility for something as basic as dinner. To make matters worse, there was a constant machine noise that persisted throughout the day and night, both nights of our stay. It was incredibly disruptive, and we struggled to get any rest with the constant humming. This completely ruined any chance of relaxation. The combination of poor service, outdated décor, limited dining options, and continuous noise made for an uncomfortable and unpleasant stay. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a more peaceful and accommodating experience. This hotel simply did not deliver on even the most basic expectations.

So incredible!!! Loved this place and the lady on reception was amazing. Gentleman in the bar and waitress ladies at breakfast also awesome. Views fantastic. Highland cows gorgeous. 10/10!

Nice location, easy walking distance to beach. Very proud of its Chaplin connection. Dinner was good, room was nice.

I stayed here due to work for 2 nights. staff were very nice and helpful. location is great and is incredibly peaceful. The fry up is great. room was very spacious, bathroom was huge. The location is half an hour from Inverness.

This place had its glory days in the past, but it is now very run down, unfortunately. If you are mainly planning activities in Inverness consider that it is located about 25-30 minutes from downtown by car. There is no easy public transportation to Inverness.

I had an acceptable overnight stay at the Muthu Newton Hotel in Nairn. It's in a good location and the grounds surrounding it are really nice and well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. The public rooms were upmarket and in keeping with a property of this age/period. The only issues were 1) I was sent an e-mail to do an online check-in. This didn't work and the contact number given was for a hotel in Essex. I tried calling them directly in Nairn (after a search on Google), but got no answer after two or three occasions trying; 2) The food was acceptable, but not great. At dinner, the soup was luke-warm at best. I ordered ice cream for dessert and it arrived in a state of initial melting. I didn't see any croissants for breakfast (only mini muffins) and the sausages were fairly hard. The room I was in was clean, with fresh sheets and the sort of facilities I would have expected (eg kettle, TV, hotel safe etc). The wifi wasn't great with a speed of 2MBps - OK for web pages and email, but you might struggle with online meetings. Otherwise, the room was quiet and comfortable.

Great place for our last night in Scotland. Close to Inverness airport. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Rooms were comfy. Great view of water in the distance. Friendly staff.

The Room had everything I needed the staff were all amazing- but the dinner was adequate- and the breakfast was absolutely terrible deep fried in dirty oil bacon sausage and potato scone !
