Having read quite a bit about Grand Hotel Savoia our expectations were quite high. They soon clashes with realities. Check-in was at best chaotic, with only one of the passport scanners working, disinterested staff, no upgrade (Platinum member) with the receptionist beginning to argue and repeating "subject to availiability" - no worries dear, I just checked - plenty of rooms available. We were then given two substandard rooms - one just outside "The pirates playground" facing a dark yard. Back to the reception via the overworked elevators where we were given to slightly better rooms - still no upgrade - ang gave up. Breakfast had just been moved to the 7th floor. A truly chaotic affair, where untrained staff tried to match coffee orders with guests and where waiting times on croissants, bacon, eggs, sausages were more than 20 minutes. Keycards does not work, toilets do not flush and front desk staff barely look up when you enter, let alone greet you. This was very far from a 5-star experience! Seek out Bristol Hotel in Genoa instead.

Beautiful old hotel. Very well located need train station and a short walk to the Harbour. Restaurants were very good but not located where advertised. Staff said they would be moving soon. Most staff were very attentive but a couple in the bar were not engaged and it was not busy

The property is elegant and conveniently situated next to the Principe train station. But zero external noise. Breakfast buffet is generous and served in a beautiful space. Staff are cordial and helpful. A 10 to 15 minute walk to most activities.

Our second stay at the Grand Savoia in Genoa. Wonderful hotel, full of history and old world luxury. Room was spacious & clean. Staff took care of every request we made. Breakfast spread was one the best we have experienced in Italy. Massage service at the spa was wonderful. Bathtub may be difficult for elderly and or persons with mobility issues, at least in our room.
