Fantastic hotel right in the city centre Very friendly staff and the hotel is amazing and very spacious I will be staying there again 100% Loads of parking spaces £20 for 24hrs Christmas market gets very crowded so you need to be prepared for this.

Location was perfect. Jorvik center, the dungeons, the shambles were all within 15 minute walking radius. Breakfast was a decent buffet. Good swimming pool and facilities.

Amazing hotel! Conveniently located just next to railway station. Close to York’s historic town centre. Milner York is a very elegant hotel with great leisure centre, bar and lounge area. There’s a Beautiful cantilevered stone staircase. Would recommend 100%.

Hotel location is superb. Located right next to train station and 5 min stroll to the centers attractions. Hotel reception, foyer, bars and restaurants are beautiful. Superb pool, sauna, steam room and hottub We didnt use the restaurant's in the hotel but the bars are superb and priced reasonably. Staff were friendly throughout. The room was spacious enough with comfy bed. The bathroom was a bit tired and could do with a revamp. Sadly the room was quite dusty behind and on top of the cabinets in the room. The fridge was noisy and we had to turn it off overnight. Overall, we would stay at the Milner again in the future.

Hotel was lovely.Spa wasn’t very good at steam room and bubble tub wasn’t working and we were looking forward so much to it.Our toilet was blocked aswell not good but they came quick to sort it.I will be putting a full review on trip advisor and some of it won’t be good

The hotel is beautiful and kept really clean. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was lovely and clean with all amenities we needed including an iron and ironing board. Unfortunately I got a bad back from the bed and there was no switch to turn the bathroom extractor fan off so it ran all night.

Stayed in accessibile room in The Sidings. Room stank when we arrived (bathroom smelt of very sweaty feet; room of general funk). Staff returned to re-clean but we still needed to leave both windows open for all 3 days we were there. Knew we were in an accessible room - no others available - but having stayed in this hotel on multiple previous occasions did not expect any of the issues we found. The room's poor condition and the size of the bed (standard double - which moved when leant against) was a huge disappointment. It is in the process of being redecorated in the main building so can only hope that the extension will be next on the list. In the meantime bringing in a carpet cleaning company would help. In an attempt to find out the source of the smell, I cleaned various surfaces in the rooms and on the final evening when cleaning the rim of the toilet was disgusted with the result. Sadly I think it will be a while before I return to the Royal York (now known as the Milner).

The room smelt very strongly of drains, particularly the bathroom. I was in room 5002. The outside noise was bad, I was woken by a pneumatic drill at 2am doing outside roadworks. Got a shock of £20 per day for parking on arrival, be aware.

We could simply say that the room decor was miserable! Lighting poor, window so filthy that we could only see dead flies caught in cob webs between secondary glazing and exterior window. A superior room? Bed was comfortable but no chairs. Constant smell of drains masked by perfume room freshener but no ability to get fresh air. Staff so lacking that at checkout between 10 and 11 queues ever present. Had an appointment and simply left room card keys!

It was okay. The staff were very nice, but the room lacked in cleanliness and some facilities were faulty. There was also a great deal of noise coming from the lift which was directly behind the head board. Blinds didn’t open, carpets and curtains were stained. Bedding was unclean.

The location was excellent and most of the staff are friendly, the entrance is gorgeous, but we’re very disappointed the room we stayed. Our room was lower ground in annex building which is so far from main building. The room is not worth the price at all. There are stains on the carpet and smell of mold. The shower head was dirty and it’s obvious they didn’t look after the room well. The first day, they cleaned the room and filled amenities but forgot to fill water. The 2nd day they tidied up the bed but did not vacuum the floor and didn’t fill the amenities except for water because they said we didn’t hang the cleaning request card which confused us as they still cleaned the first day without the card and they still entered the room and touched the bed on 2nd day but ignored the dust or hairs on the floor. We have to say the cleaning level is very terrible and poor. Breakfast level was also not good compared other hotels we stayed in UK. I cannot believe this is a 4star traditional hotel and does not warrant the price for one.

Great staff & the hotel down stairs and around the grounds was beautiful. Once got to our room we were a little dissapointed - very small room, mould on bathroom ceiling, no lighting in half the room so couldnt see when ironing or to use full length mirror & couldnt hang clothes due to the kettle etc being directly under hanging rail. Dispite these things the room was clean and exellent location.

The staff was excellent. The issue was with the room. It was not in very good condition for $275. Our room was located right above the train station, the overhead light was missing a lampshade, and the thermostat was stuck at 19C. We had to turn it off at some point. I would not stay there again for the price we paid.

Location for the city centre is good, hence 4 stars. Front desk staff were helpful, restaurant food and service were good. Room in The Sidings was not great - noisy and smelt of sewage. The hotel shares a public car park; we couldn't find a space when we arrived.

When we arrived we were given an upgrade to a Garden Room with a wonderful view of York Minster. The room was compact but had everything we needed for our overnight stay. It was quiet, clean something that I personally find important a dressing table area with an accessible plug socket.

The staff and lounges were beautiful but the room was very small, dark with lots of faults including a cracked toilet seat which is very unhygienic. Tiny window overlooking the train station roof and one double glazing panel was missing. Lots of areas with paint missing and bathroom door that wouldn’t close and had a big area of white filler, probably where the handle had been. Very disappointed with room.

My husband and I stayed at the Milner for 2 nights for a birthday/anniversary celebration. On arrival the reception is very impressive in a stunning building, the receptionist was very efficient, gave us the key and directions to our room. Unfortunately the directions included going down one floor in the lift, across the hall and back up one floor in another lift. We were in a side annexe which was disappointing, an obvious much later addition to the hotel. Room was on the small side with a tatty Roman blind at the window which could not be opened. The air con was noisy but on the plus side, the bed was big and very comfortable and everything was clean. As the most expensive 4 star hotel in York, I had high hopes but on reflection would not stay again.

Imagine you've paid your surgeon to do an operation on your right leg and he will in fact perform surgery on your left one. I did not receive the room I have paid for and the hotel staff refused to offer the room I've paid for even if they've accepted full responsibility. It looks like common practice for this hotel to sell rooms located far away from main building (The infamous "sidings bedrooms") as rooms located in the main building. 1 in 2 guests will end up in a room located far away from the main building, a room full of mould, dirt, soiled furniture leaking pipes and smell of sewage. At a price of superior room located in the main building. Traumatising experience.

This was my second stay at this hotel. I came back because I really liked it the first time, although it has changed hands since then. On arrival, our rooms were ready. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our baggage was safely left in the luggage room on the day of our departure, which made it so much easier on our last day. It was even brought to our table when we decided on a last-minute drink in the bar before heading to the station. If I had any gripe at all, it was in-room information. But this seems to be the same in most hotels these days. I miss having a menu, opening times, local sights etc in a booklet or folder. So convenient for the train station. Be aware that there is a door right next to the station. The first time I went, I walked all the way around the building to the front entrance! Would definitely stay here again.

Mediocre, rooms could do with an update along with amenities. My husband checked out and was charged for the room (which is already paid for when booking) took me half an hour to sort out over the phones yesterday, still not refunded, no gesture of good will. Overall pretty poor service

The hotel itself is beautiful. The lounge and common areas are stunning. Unfortunately the hotel falls down in staff attentiveness and our room was a bit tired with wear and tear. It was very evident that the hotel are short staffed. Waiting at reception to check in. Long wait in lounge for drinks, only one person on duty so when he was off preparing drinks there was no one around. We had a family occasion in one of the function and pretty much had to serve ourselves. Even the manager we spoke to admitted they were short of staff. Breakfast was great with lots of staff topping up the buffet and keeping it tidy. A pleasant stay but let down by lack of staff.

The front desk staff first gave us an isolated room in the basement, which made us feel unsafe due to noise from the staff next door. The hotel in it's self is lovely. We did not book in for dinner when we went to the restaurant we were turned away being told they were not talking walk ins. We returned to the bar and booked a table on line! Rather wished we had not bothered the person in charge was very off hand. We waited 20 mins for someone to take a food order only because we ask them to take the order. 30 mins later the food arrived, the two steaks were ordered medium rare, both were seriously over cooked. We refused the food, no apology was made by the manager he just asked if we wanted another meal, we replied no and he walked away. A young waiter called Ewan came over to apologise. It feels very much like staff don't really want to be there at all none of them seem to be happy. We would not return.

The list of cons was much greater than the list of pros. -service was non existent. No doorman to help bring up luggage from the rear reception area. Called multiple times to bring water to the room to no avail. Hotel location is superb. Located right next to train station and 5 min stroll to the centers attractions. Hotel reception, foyer, bars and restaurants are beautiful. Superb pool, sauna, steam room and hottub We didnt use the restaurant's in the hotel but the bars are superb and priced reasonably. Staff were friendly throughout. The room was spacious enough with comfy bed. The bathroom was a bit tired and could do with a revamp. Sadly the room was quite dusty behind and on top of the cabinets in the room. The fridge was noisy and we had to turn it off overnight. Overall, we would stay at the Milner again in the future.

Location is perfect for those arriving by train, and easily walkable to the city center. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good. Just returned from a two night stay best described as ok. The hotel looks impressive and public areas are smart. The room however was small and 'tired'. It was also quite noisy. The location is reasonable being right next to the railway station about half a mile from the centre. Parking was a bonus but expensive. The real let down was breakfast. It is buffet style and on both mornings hot food was almost cold and several items missing. Not great for around £20 a head. Overall, ok but certainly not great and at £160 per night, not cheap T

Had a lovely stay at The Milner, was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a Superior Double on arrival so had the luxury of a huge shower and also a freestanding bath to use during our stay. The bed was huge and very comfortable. we used the Swollen Gambler bar and also ate breakfast during our stay and found both very good. Choice of food at breakfast was good and plentiful. Our only gripe was because we stayed in the older part of the hotel overlooking the station area, the old sash windows let in a lot of noise and we were frequently woken by delivery trucks arriving in the early hours, no real issues as we could lie in to get our sleep back but if we were travelling for business and had to be up and out this could be an issue. Overall with the smooth check in and very nive public areas I would definitely recommend the hotel
