The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. The hotel was easy to find and had onsite parking. The room was comfortable and clean. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every moment. The breakfast was well organised with plenty of choice and the cooked breakfast was cooked to order on week days but help yourself buffet on the weekend though this was kept warm and well replenished. There is a good pool with sauna and steam room which we made full use of. The hotel is in a good location by the river with a 5 minute walk over the bridge to the town centre. The Christmas lights were on and everywhere looked spectacular. Our first real visit to the town having previously only having a brief stopover on our way through. Looking forward to our next visit.

Nice historic hotel in great location with a spa/pool/gym

Lovely grounds. Very convenient walking distance into town and RSC. Great modern gym with decent sized pool. Spotlessly clean throughout. However, Hotel building is looking a bit tired and breakfast was not as good quality as it was before Covid.

Room clean & spacious , bar staff Brillant , breakfast staff some great some gruff ! Parking charges £7 per day abit silly at a big hotel , pool huge , food great BUT 4 fire alarms went off ! Not relaxing being evacuated in your nightwear .

I got charged £7 to park but was only informed of the charge the night before our stay, and not when I booked. The swimming pool was far too cold. There was a surcharge of £5 for scrambled egg and smoked salmon and eggs Benedict, which is ridiculous!

Good location very close to the centre of Stratford. Interesting old building with good facilities. We tried to book a spa treatment but no-one responded to our emails. Given the price of this hotel it was surprising that breakfast wasn't included and there was a £7 a day parking charge. Nice hotel but expensive for what it is once all the hidden charges are factored in.

Very impressive entrance and front of the hotel, very Stratford! Our rooms were as far away from reception as it was possible to be, but you can park right outside. There’s a lock on the main door which requires your room key to gain entry, would be nice if they actually activated this rather than just leaving it unlatched for anyone to wander in. Rooms were really good, the biggest bed I have ever seen! Table and two chairs, dresser, ample wardrobe and modern bathroom. The water fountain in the hallway was a nice bonus, especially with the jug in the room. A big plus to have Elemis toiletries provided as these are what I use at home, but maybe add a body cream, seemed odd to provide shampoo but no conditioner too . Cleanliness was spot on, including the daily service. The hotel has a cosy bar and lounge but if you’re in the 200 block it’s about half a mile walk from your room and drinks are very pricey. We didn’t have breakfast on site as it was £18 per person at the discounted rate, you’re so close to town with numerous alternatives. As it was a birthday treat I had a treatment at the spa, which was eye wateringly expensive, literally over three times the price of anywhere else in town, but can’t fault the treatment and atmosphere. Maybe offer hotel guests a discounted treatment? A big selling point for us was the swimming pool and gym, both really nice and made full use of during our stay, but do get very busy! Hotel was located Within walking distance of centre with many dining options. Leisure facilities were good.

The rooms themselves were clean but a little bit tired the outside was quite untidy with weeds growing in public areas and skips on view

Lovely hotel , but unfortunately the rooms let it down the duvet covers had stains on them… the mattress need replacements, we changed rooms and the same problem as before, housekeeping needs to get sorted, and mattress man needs to pay a visit. What a shame , the evening meal was delirious,the drinks were very expensive ,!!! service needs more staff training, breakfast help yourself good selection but it was only warm , I had a terrible night sleep,we were give 25% back . But I would like it to have been better a lovely break away spoiled because maybe to compensate .with there attitude towards care and attention of there guest .sorry !!

The room was not of the standard I would expect from a 4 star hotel. I have seen better rooms at a premier inn. The window was defective, the water jug was chipped and so was one of the glasses. Although we had glasses there was no water. The wash hand basin was chipped and cracked neat the plughole. 2 of the towels were frayed at the edges. Before we unpacked we complained about the room but were told the hotel was fully booked and I should come back in the morning and they would try to change the room, we were told in the morning that they were busy cleaning the rooms as people were checking and the told us to come back at 3.00pm. We could not return at 3.00pm because we at the theatre and we returned after the play had finished. We were eventually moved to a superior room. All of this took a lot of time especially walking up and down the corridors because we were as far away as possible from the reception. We would not recommend this Hotel and certainly not stay there again. I must say, however, that the staff were very kind and pleasant.

We were really disappointed about the quality and cleanliness of our ‘delux room’ which seemed to have never been dusted. We complained about this on arrival and nothing was done about it. The bathroom had mould growing up the window and the bedside lamps were falling apart. Whereas the mattress in the 4 poster bed was concave and really uncomfortable to sleep in. All the furniture was dated and threadbare and highly uncomfortable. We avoided using our bathroom as it was so dirty and like an ice box and used the showers in the swimming pool instead. The pool was great as was the breakfast, but the lounge food was over priced.

Dear manager Last nites stay was horrific to be honest. I am angry and appalled. I stay there alot. The hotel bathroom was filthy. Got photos to prove it no etc bed sheets filthy. Noise levels horrific. Would you please reimburse me my money or able to offer me a room again for nothing to compensate me as I left earlier and having. To work all the time I wanted to relax last nite. Not a good experience at all. Not happy Matthew

Room was clean, bed huge and very comfortable. It was lovely and quiet even though there was a wedding on our 1st night.

Room wasn’t ready on arrival, we were told to wait in the bar (barman was very miserable) and that someone would come and find us as soon as it was ready, didn’t happen! Finally got the keys around 4pm, dropped our bags and went to use the pool which was FREEZING, returned to the room to get ready for dinner and noticed it was filthy, blood on the side of the bed, chewing gum on the tap, hair all over the bath, dust on every surface, half the lights didn’t work, towels were old and frayed. Breakfast was unremarkable, very miserable looking and not particularly nice. We paid almost £300 for a suite, the hotel insulted us with a £30 refund and £7 back for parking! Unfortunately for them I book ALOT of hotels and was in fact staying to survey the hotel ahead of potentially booking the whole place for a huge VIP event next year, needless to say I will not be holding any events there!

A return visit to a good value hotel, with character and in a lovely setting, a short walk over the bridge into the town. The clean room was adequate but a little dated and sadly the bathroom needed some renovation - the wash basin and tap needed replacing. The staff were very helpful and efficient and overall we enjoyed our stay.

My overall rating would have been Higher if I had been in a different room. There was a noisy humming sound that went all night and it made it difficult to sleep. I also couldn’t open my window and get fresh air as smokers would stand near it and the smoke came straight into my room. The staff could be a little friendlier. However the young Man on reception who checked me in was lovely.

When we arrived at 3pm the room was not ready. It was me that had to ask the Receptionist about paying for parking. The air-conditioner was not working and it was very warm in the room even though we had a fan

More ‘motel’ than ‘manor’. Most of the accommodation is not in the Manor House but in a labyrinth of two-storey blocks that snake out behind the house. Their design aesthetic has more in common with 1970s council housing than a 4-star hotel. The decor is shabby and the fixtures are dated. The shower is over a bath and has no hand held unit. I waited an age for the hot water to get to our far reaches of the hotel (around 7 minutes, really). Reception staff provide only a lukewarm welcome as well. Definitely not 4 star, I’d say 3.5 at best.

Excellent location and wonderful main building, full of character. Our room was in a sort of extension to the main building and unfortunately very tired and in need of some decor and fabric update. The window frames were the old metal type probably from the 70's era. On a position note, the bed and pillows were amazing.

Well not bad but tired room, air conditioning wasn’t working in our room and we knew was a hot night so particularly booked for this so very annoying and another so called 4* hotel with a fridge taken out of room !!! Positives lovely comfy bed.

Beautiful, period building set away from the noise of the town centre, and only 10 minutes walk from the RSC theatre. We had the deluxe suite which, although grand and luxurious in its decor with a four poster bed, separate sitting-room and stained glass windows, had a slightly 'tired' bathroom. The bathroom blind had to be manually twisted at the bottom to close it for privacy, one tap had its trim missing and the extractor fan made the most horrific screaming noise soon after being switched on. This did subside each time, but it was an awful sound to endure if you were in the bathroom. The suite was very cold and no heating came on at 5pm as promised. The duty manager was excellent when we returned from the theatre, providing us with a portable heater, as well as manually over-riding the heating to give us some warmth in the end. We had a delicious cooked breakfast - full English and vegan English, plus an array of continental delights. All members of staff were so attentive, friendly and helpful, providing a caring and personal service. Parking is safe and at a small charge if £7 a day.

Lovely building. Very short walk to the town itself. Nice grounds. Food was nice. We had breakfasts there. The room was a nice size, clean and spacious. Let downs were no air conditioning i was told i was supposed to request this? I thought all rooms had air con. So be mindful of this in your bookings. Asked to change rooms though they were fully booked. Room was stifling. There was just a fan in the room. It seemed several had these. Iron did not work properly. Reported that the same evening. Was told it would be looked at. Never was. Useless never bothered using it after that as i spent more time blow drying the dress with a hair dryer as the iron just piddled water everywhere. Elemis products very nice but nothing located near the bath and you had to keep standing up to fill a glass of bath and shower gel to use. The head of the restaurant could do with putting a smile on. We were greeted by herself and the young waiting on team. They were beaming from ear to ear and very pleasent. Every time we visited it was "room number please" from this lady. A shame really. A smile goes a long way.

Breakfast was a buffet one morning yet served the other. I had been expecting a served hot breakfast both mornings. Restaurant feels like a goldfish bowl if you are unlucky and get tables around the edge (mainly tables of 2 so we did each day). Hotel rooms are in a very tired and ugly building behind the attractive frontage of the hotel. Room was average, I expected better from a 4star. Window didn’t close, bed had a foot missing and bathroom floor tiles scratched and marked so looked very scruffy. Staff very pleasant

Unfortunately for us, we felt the room was noisy and we could hear other guests walking in the corridors and the rooms either side and above us. The bed was also very creaky. This is understandable with it being an old building but as a light sleeper and us having our dog with us this did make the stay harder and meant we didn’t sleep well. The room was nice but tired in places and the shower didn’t have good water pressure. The ceilings were also quite low, which would be fine for those of average height but as tall people we did struggle with this. The Elemis toiletries were a nice feature. The Hotel is set in lovely grounds and the lounge was also lovely with a fire going. We do however feel that an additional £7 charge on top of the room fee to park the car was harsh given the price of the room itself and parking offered.

Very disappointing stay. The room was shabby and the breakfast basic. The room needs updating and electric sockets installing near the bed instead of at the table. This was very inconvenient particularly for mobile phone charging. On the second day of my stay there was a large wedding party which completely took over the hotel and all the public areas inside and out. As a result, there was nowhere to sit so was virtually confined to my room as I was unable to enjoy the hotel’s facilities. Also, some of the wedding party was on the corridor and it was very noisy in the early hours. It should’ve been pointed out to other guests that there would be limited access to public areas on that day. I did mention this as I checked out and the receptionist, though pleasant, said that there was still access to public areas. What she failed to understand was that neither I nor the wedding party wanted to be involved with each other. From now on I will always ask a question if there is a private function at any time during my stay. This was meant to be a very special trip for me, but I was bitterly disappointed. My two constructive emails to McDonald’s have been ignored, which I find rude and a sad indictment of falling standards.

The staff were so amazing

We have stayed in Stratford a number of times over the last 28yrs, this was the first time at the Alverston Manor - on arrival we were checked in very quickly and when we arrived at our room there was a small box of chocolates as a gift for my wife (as it was her birthday) which was a lovely surprise However, the room was a Standard Double, and not the Deluxe Room booked So I popped back down to reception, upon informing the chap on reception, he checked the booking and told me that the room we was allocated was a Delux. I had quite clearly booked a traditional room in the old part of the hotel with drapes over bed etc, and the room they had given me was in the extension building, so I knew as we arrived that it was wrong I showed him the pictures from the website clearly showing it to be the wrong room, after a while looking at the screen he apologised which miffed me a little as I now thought he was trying it on! He said they only had one room left in the old part of the building (this was also nothing like what we booked!) I was then told to wait in our room until the manager got in 30mins later to try and sort something. Instead we decided to go and wait in the bar. I went back to reception to inform them of our whereabouts and the lady on reception told me that there was another room!? She showed us the room, and although it wasn’t exactly what I had booked it was slightly similar and I didn’t want to make any more of a deal about it! So we took it! Sorted!

Quiet with very good onsite facilities, close to Stratford centre and easy vehicle access with plentiful parking. Comfortable spacious room, breakfast options fine, if a little pricey. Main area for improvement is check in. It was slow and understaffed at times.

Bed was very comfy. ISSUES - - Your Breakfast manager (Michael??) the older gentleman was one of the rudest and most disorganised hotel staff I think I have ever seen. He shouted at me as I tried to sit with fellow colleagues as I had not gone through his process of standing in line and being checked in..!!! The fact is this process he has takes ages and we were all in a hurry as I explained to him. This did not register with him and he carried on raising his voice if anyone dare to speak out about his ridiculous way of working. He should NOT be dealing with customers. ALSO - Hotel bar.... 3 double Baileys with ice £44 |Seriously??? Canceled the order, had singles. A bottle of Baileys 1L costs £12 retail less at wholesale prices. WHy charge so much in the hotel.

Pleasant hotel near the Theatre with comfortable rooms and good bathrooms at a reasonable price

Perfectly placed to explore Stratford on foot (even if slightly mobility impaired) Great swimming pool and sauna. Breakfast plentiful with hot food to order. No issue with parking, plenty of spaces even though it was busy. Family room spacious and our 12 yr old slept on the sofa bed which she thought was comfy. Great two night stay

This was a couple ,short visit. The hotel was lovely , clean and comfortable . And above all the hotel was next to the town tourist areas so walking was easy . Shame about no free parking at the hotel . Very friendly and helpful staff great location and would definately stay again

Old building; would prove difficult for disabled as no lifts. For us no problem apart from Room 227 being a distance away from Reception. Room n bed comfortable; we ate out in town which has a fantastic choice of restaurants n pubs. Good base, central location

Lovely Hotel with nice room, Spa & Lounge/Bar facilities. Breakfast would be best described as chaotic with staff and resultant service all over the place. Full cooked breakfast was good but you had to ASK for some items to make up the full complement ? Also you had to pay a supplement for "everything" but a full cooked breakfast - what is that all about ?

Lovely overnight stay, clean room, fabulous swimming pool and incredibly friendly staff. Service in the bar and at breakfast could not be faulted. Breakfast was hot, tasty and plentiful - we will be back!

The worlds most expensive breakfast. £24 for a buffet breakfast, everything else has a supplement charge. I didn’t realise the cost u till I checked out, so my fault but still £24! Lesson learnt!

The property was to a good standard and the room was clean and comfortable. However we were placed well to the rear of the hotel and it was along walk to the reception and breakfast room. The not so good at £24 each for breakfast it was expensive the English breakfast consisted of over cooked bacon black pudding that just fell apart when you touched it, baked beans that had been left on a warm plate in the kitchen for far to long. I would not give that breakfast to my dog. I found the vast majority of the waiting staff brusk, rude and ignorant and to make matter worse English was their second language. So my advice to you is spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Stay was OK. Few drinks and light dinner in the bar. The full (expensive) resturant menu was also in the bar, which was a little over the top. Something lighter would have been appropriate. Breakfast was ok, not great. £4 for a small luke warm lattee was not impressive and the fruit selection on the buffett was sliced water melon and a mixed berry mix that can only be described as one of the sourest things on earth ever created by man. Pretty poor.

On the first night the fire alarm went off 5 times within approximately 30 mins from just before midnight till half past midnight. It was extremely loud and upsetting. I called through to reception several times but no answer. I eventually found a different phone number which was answered and they said it was a false alarm in the dining room. It is not until you arrive at the hotel that they tell you that breakfast costs £18 per person per day. Then it is not until you get to breakfast that they tell you that some breakfasts have an additional £5 charge. You have to book a time for breakfast and as soon as you finish something, your dish is taken away, leaving you feeling they are trying to rush you out. At breakfast, simple menu choices or a request for more tea was met with further questions and judgement from the waiting staff. One morning we put a do not disturb sign on the door for 30mins, which was ignored - house keeping knocked asking to clean. The hotel is very close to the town so we decided to take all other meals in town due to the experience at the hotel. The town is lovely and there is so much to do and see and so many nice cafes and restaurants.

Our 4 day experience was excellent the staff in the restaurant,bar and house keeping where all very professional and a credit to the hotel what massively let the hotel down was the prices in the bar 2 double gin and 1 bottle of tonic water £28.00!! Cmon Macdonalds you cannot believe that is fair!! In us you had a captive audience but we went across the road a had the same drinks for literally half the price we would have liked to have spent more time in the hotel but sadly not at those prices
