Beach was excellent and pools and all were great. Gym is lacking and some things didn't work. Food was decent and breakfast especially excellent. Cleaner than anyplace I've stayed. Staff is beyond excellent and accommodating. Cannot wait to come back.

We had a wonderful stay at Riu Playacar. The staff is so helpful and always have a welcoming smile on their faces. Our room was spacious clean and comfortable. One thing to be aware of is there is no elevators in the buildings. We were given a room with 2 flights of stairs but on request they moved us to an easier access room. The beach is beautiful and the pools lovely and clean. Ww enjoyed the sereque, coati and iguanas who are adorable and well cared for. We will be back!

My family of 8 just got back from Riu Playacar. It was great. We loved the nightly entertainment each night. Also there was a wide variety of food for everyone to choose something they liked. The shopping across the street was so easy to bring my kids over there to look for souvenirs.

I have never seen any resort employees clean as much as RIU playacar does. WOW. Every single day they were cleaning (soap, water, scrubbing) all the stairs, walkways, windows, pool... Hands down one of the cleanest resorts you will go to. Best way to describe this hotel would be a family hotel. We went in March and there was a good range of ages from 20's to young families, to retired. Nothing to crazy, but they ensure everyone is having a fun time. If you're looking for an affordable, clean, all inclusive hotel. This is probably what you're looking for.

This is my first review ever. I don’t know how this property has 8.6 good reviews. It is my first stay at RIU resort, however not first on all inclusive vacations.It was terrible experience. The rooms are awful, old and dirty. The towels are in brown color very old. My dog has better towels. Sheets on bed were old and discolored- disgusting. I contacted the Expedia to change the hotel but they never called me back. It happened to us before when we were to Hawaii and I was happy to change to different hotel. Very disappointed on Expedia customer service. The excuse was that they couldn’t reach the hotel. My last booking on Expedia there is so many other options now. I would love add some pictures but there is no option here. Guys if you want spend some nice vacation never go to this hotel.

We upgraded to a partial ocean view room and the balcony did have a very nice view. Upgrade didn’t cost much. Hard-working, friendly, cheerful staff. Requested extra pillows. Extra pillows delivered in 20 minutes. Requested extra coffee for the room. Extra coffee delivered in 20 minutes. We were fine with the food. Breakfast and lunch were good and dinner buffet had many options so there. Neat little shopping mall across the street with a Starbucks. Beautiful beach and plenty of loungers. The walk into town was a little long for me. I am 61. 10 bucks for a cab. That’s doable. Definitely recommend this resort just wish they had some mid range booze. Jack Daniel’s at least. Got stuck with Johnny Walker Red.

My experience was not what I was expecting. The rooms weren’t as nice as what the pictures show on the site. The balcony door knob was broken, the bathroom walls were really dirty, scratched. There was no privacy from the room to the bathroom just a door to the toilet. But most of all the reason we left the resort was because there was too many ants on the floor and in the bed. Unfortunately I booked this reservation without a refund. So I lost money. We ended up going to a different resort.

We enjoyed the convenience of the mini market across the street and being able to walk to Playa Del Carmen (~30mins). The only negative was our original room. We were out in a first floor standard room that had a mildew odor and rattling AC sound. After asking a couple times we were able to be moved to a 3rd floor double standard room that was so much better. Staff were wonderful, so kind and accommodating. Beach was incredibly beautiful. We would stay here again, but would request a 2nd or 3rd floor unit or a junior suite.

The food was ok, mostly buffet style and a little repetitive. The service was good. The rooms need a little updating, and the AC didn't work well in one of our two rooms... they attempted to repair it, but it wouldn't get low enough to combat the humidity. The water in the sink is not drinkable, which is understandable in Mexico, but most of the places I've stayed before you don't need to worry about brushing your teeth with the sink water.

The location, beach and pools were great, food was average in comparison with other all inclusive resorts. The one complaint that I would have is that the rooms are not family friendly at all. There’s no door on the bathroom so if you aren’t a couple, people can’t even change or shower with any privacy. The beds were also quite small for two people. If you are planning to take your kids with you, I’d stay somewhere else.

The resort credit is a coupon book with select product discounts. I only booked with orbitz because it listed this credit. I could have booked direct for less and should have. The room I was in was by the sewage drain. It smelled horrible. I couldn't open the balcony door or sit outside. I was in room 1101. if you stay make sure you aren't on the same side of the building as that room. sewer flys are all over the area.

The best part about this hotel is LEAVING. The worst… where do I start? The front desk mediocre at best, I have stayed at this hotel in 3 occasions and something changed. Why bother advertising to have adjoining rooms when you are NEVER going to give adjoining rooms when asked??? if you request extra towels they will never arrive even when you ask 3 times! if you need anything from the front desk they will ask YOU to go get it. They will basically tell you to PISS OFF with a smile, i’m guessing for the cameras. The food not bad not good either. I do have to say that the people working there except for the front desk and bartenders are AMAZING, they will do anything they can to make your stay comfortable given the circumstances. Of course I will NEVER stay here again. MANAGEMENT please don’t respond to this review saying you are sorry because you are not. they where MANY occasions when I was in the front desk asking to get things resolved, not only the adjoining rooms but also the towels, the iron, the horrible smell of the room and towels and nobody helped me with ANYTHING. So as your front desk did to me “respectfully “ PISS OFF WITH A SMILE OF COURSE.

We have one of the room toilet flooded and water flowing out almost to the front door. So phone receptionist. Someone came just before 11pm. Unfortunately there’s a do not disturb sign on door, the maid knocked didn’t come in. We got back to room right after the maid left. Then phone back to reception. Maintenance came fixed the toilet but not responsible for cleaning. Then phone again. But this time receptionist said no one to clean till morning. Very disappointed also mentioned to give us towels to clean ourselves except not enough because they ran out of towels. So instead the hotel got us one room just for one night and there’s cockroach in the washroom. It’s disappointing and unacceptable the staff has the courage to have guess clean the mess.

Love this resort! Will definitely be back in the future. Just spent 4 days there and it simply was not long enough. The location is perfect, right on the beach, and right across the street from a cute shopping plaza with local vendors, a Starbucks and even a 7 Eleven. The place is clean and beautiful, plenty of dining options. The food was great! It renewed my faith in all inclusive dinning. Lastly, I cannot say enough great things about the staff! Made friends with so many of them. From the minute we checked in at the front desk everyone went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Our plane landed early so we arrived at the resort around 10 am which is way ahead of check in time, I knew in advance that they would let you enjoy the resort right away but check in for the room was not until 3 pm. We took a chance and asked if an early check in was possible even at an extra charge and he found us a room to check into right away at no extra cost! That was just the beginning of the great service we received during our stay. Thank you Riu Playacar! Can’t wait to come back soon!

We had a very pleasant stay here at Riu Playacar! Our room had a balcony and would recommend it 100%. The staff is very friendly and attentive, our room service was great and of course everything outdoors was very clean. The food was good and many options to choose from, the activities were also great and the beach was spectacular!

Very pretty property. A little dated. Some cracks. Freshly painted everywhere. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Especially Jonathan at reception, who was delightful. He seemed to be there from morning to night, almost every day. He was so friendly, and happy.

We had a great stay. The people are very friendly, and it was wonderful to return to a clean room every day. The housekeeping staff are excellent and always ensure we are cared for. Being directly on the beach was a highlight for the kids, and they loved the pools. We rented a car for the week at the airport, and it was nice to have parking at the hotel. Although the food was average, as other reviewers stated, there was always good fresh fruit, salads, and variety. We enjoyed the buffets over the different dining options. If having many great dining options is important to you, this might be a limiting factor, but we felt we got a good value overall. One downside was that our hotel keys were deactivated almost every day. We recommend that the hotel get this fixed, as it happened to us and the other family we traveled with, and it was especially frustrating after a long day. The grounds are nice and clean, and seeing some local wildlife was super fun. The spider monkey that decided to take a few minutes to lie in the hotel lobby made our day. Riuland did a great job over easter with many activities for the kids. My kid had a great time. Thank you for a good trip!

Great time at the beach!! Small property which makes it even better so you don’t have to walk far to the beach, entertainment or dining. Could also access the RIU Tequila & Yucatan for lunch & entertainment. Quiet at night, not a party resort, which is a bonus. Only $10 quick cab ride to 5th Ave which has all the shopping. Would definitely stay here again!

There are 4 different restaurants "buffets" in this property. You have an Italian (could be better), Asian (could be better), Mexican/Steak house (10/10), and just a regular buffet (9/10). Wifi COULD BE BETTER. Housekeeping does a fabulous job 10/10. Pool/ Beach area 3 & 1/2 different pools; all clean and with great views. Bar area always had my drinks ready within the minute. There is also a snack bar in the bar that serves hamburgers, hot-dogs, steak, and chicken. The chef was so welcoming and very well organized. Santos in the pool area was my BEST FRIEND throughout my stay. He was always attentive of me and my kids and ALWAYS kept the place in order and clean. This hotel does a lot of FUN activities throughout the week. ON FRIDAY'S THEY HAVE A WHITE PARTY. Remember you can always go to the different RUI hotels throughout your stay. FYIThe one across the street has 7 pools!!! Overrall, we had a wonderful time at Rui Playacar.

This is one of the cheapest Riu properties in Playacar. We love the location and the staff, the food is really bad and the alcohols are cheap but we don’t come here to eat… The beach is nice! Staying here you can also access Riu Tequila that has a fun 24h sports bar and a night club that is open from 11pm-3am. We love the walkability of this property. It only takes about 30 min to walk to downtown Playa…

I thought the resort was good. The staff was amazing but I did find that the food at the Asian and Italian restaurants were sub par. The Mexican restaurant was good and the buffets were decent. The steak house was absolutely amazing the first time I went but the 2nd time was not good at all so consistency needs to be looked at. Overall, I had a great time with friends and I would go back for the price

The hotel was great for the most part. The A La Carte resteraunts were more like buffets and the food wasn't very good but the buffet was above average so we always found something good to eat. I love that the buffet has some sort of roast and gravy at breakfast everyday . They did the same at the Riu in Los Cabos which i also loved the buffet.
