Riu Tequila - All Inclusive

Well kept resort with lovely staff. Food options average. Pool and beach access great! Rooms and A/C great! Entertainment for all. Quiet and walkable safe gated Playacar neighborhood. Walkable or short taxi to 5th Ave or local restaurants/shops.

Great resort, service, entertainment, beach, pools. Our 15 time staying at a Riu property. Weve been staying at either Riu Palace Riviera Maya or Riu Tequila since 2016 and we have never been disappointed with our stay. While the club level isnt as full service as the Palace is, we find the club level hotels have more families and things going on for kids of all ages to enjoy. We enjoy the Palace level when we are traveling without our child. Since we were travelling with our 11 year old we chose the club level. We liked the rooms and evening entertainment at Tequila. Especially the neon and white parties on fridays. We spent our daytimes across the street at the pool and beach club for Riu Yucatan since Tequila isnt ocean front. Guests at Tequila can freely visit the Riu Yucatan and Riu Playacar and use their pools and beach areas etc. The walk wasnt bad but theres a golf cart shuttle all day as well. -Our room was great, we had a family villa which was a king size bed and a pull out couch. We had a small balcony with a hanger for wet clothes. Shower and toilet were a good size. Cleaning staff did a great job every day. -Food was good. Lots of options every day at the buffets, although the Palace Level has more variety day to day. We stick to the buffets for breakfast lunch and dinner. -Entertainment staff did a wonderful job keeping things all day and night. Coconut party, foam party, circus show were our favs -All staff were friendly and kind as always!!

We have gone to other RIU’s and the tequila does not live up to the other two. Pools were terrible very unsafe. Pools were always low and below the skimming vents. Many times the circulating pumps were not even on. Would go to other resorts before returning to tequila.

Let me start with the CONS first 1. The property is not ON the beach. It is across the street and requires 10-15 min of walking; which is not too bad considering there are other properties that may require that long a walk depending on where you are located. However, there is a shuttle that runs regularly. The walk through full-grown tree-shaded archway is nice. 2. The rooms are not spacious and can be a little tight for a family of 4 (w/small kids). You have to be in the shower or toilet to change for privacy. Don't miss the PROS now 1. RUI knows how to put on a party. Friday night parties are grand. They beat some of the New Year parties I have seen in my life. So if you are here, be prepared to have a blast. You'll see guests from neighboring RUI properties (4-5) at this event. 2. Customer service is exemplary. You tip them and they will take extra care of you. Don't be cheap and tip like you tip in the US. 3. The beach and pools are awesome. Drinks are NOT watered down. Can't prevent guests from holding chairs with towels and not showing up. But they have enough chairs and still can be found and moved around. 4. The buffets are abundant and tables are managed very efficiently. The inhouse restaurants are nice, but can has longer wait times 5. Step out and explore the local food scene (10-15 min walking distance) for a break from the buffet and resort if you are there for a longer time.

Fanns en bufférestaurang som var bra med jättestort utbud, samt tre separata restauranger som var helt okej men inget mer. Rummet var rent och rymligt med en generös minibar. För att komma till stranden behövde man gå ca 10 minuter. Vid stranden fanns en bra bufférestaurang och solsängar som ingick. Stranden var jättefin! Man kunde t ex segla med katamaran en timme utan kostnad. Väldigt fint poolområde och bra bar. Överlag en fin anläggning men lite för stor, högljudd och opersonlig.

The entertainment was great for all ages. Staff were pretty good except at the swim up bar. Went to the bar 3 days in a row and never got service. Had to get out of the pool, go around the front and get drinks. Why have a swim up bar if you have to get out anyway? The food was great and all other servers were great.

Very disappointed in no elevators. When we checked in we asked for rooms close to our daughters and they said for an additional fee they would put us close. Didn’t know there weren’t elevators and was placed on the 3rd floor dragging luggage up 3 flights of stairs. The videos of the entertainment were good but didn’t see the fun entertainment on the resort. We spent a great deal of time on the beach and there was many activities down there. Wish there was listed activities for the beach because we missed so much. The food on the resort is fair. Wouldn’t recommend the main Buffett! We did enjoy Bamboo. Not sure Riu is for us.

The staff were all very nice. There’s was plenty of options at the Buffet and the food was really good. Hotel is small but perfect. I also loved that you can walk right across the street to Riu Yucatán (maybe 5 minute walk) and go to the beach and use pool and restaurants there too.

Food was very good but NOt too many options. Same kind of food every day No transportation provide to visit the other Riu resorts that you can share. Long walk to go and enjoy every other resort.

Bra service. Bra bar. Goda drinkar. Bra pool. Bra rum. Välfylld minibar och vanligt vatten. Bra aktiviteter. Bra huvudrestaurang/buffe. Men högljutt i lokalen. Övriga restauranger OK. Lite dumt att det var en bit att promenera till stranden men det fanns transport. Mycket fin strand där stolar ingick. Ett plus var att det fanns en bra bufferestaurang vid stranden som ingick. Aktiviteter vid stranden som ingick. Provade katamaran.

Property staff is extremely kind and helpful. Excellent service. The entertainment / shows was entertaining, fun and put together well. The buffet was average and not very impressive at all. We did not do the restaurants do to timing. Grounds is well kept and clean. Location is good easy to walk to shops. Not on the beach you do have to walk across the street to the beach behind the other hotel. Pools are nice and fun activities by staff. Our room had many issues lights out, outlet didn't work, clogged drain, safe didn't work, fridge stopped working and then the ceiling in the shower started leaking and smelled like sewage. Once brought to management staff they had maintenance come out right away to fix and resolve. We appreciate the sense of urgency. Overall this was a nice quick getaway weekend for us but would not consider this a 5 star resort by far.

The entire family ended up with severe food poisoning requiring doctors visits upon our return from the resort. We didn’t use the tap water for tooth brushing or drinking. The linens had stains and hair on them when we arrived. The “upgraded rooms” are not truly upgraded just fun looking wallpaper added. The mattresses are incredibly old and not comfortable. Our ceiling was leaking water from the light fixtures and maintenance did not come when we called. Instead they decided to wait until morning and woke us up at 7am to do the work they said would be taken care of the night before.

The AC in the room was not working. I saw cockroach going from the restroom into the wooden door support. Italian restaurant was terrible. I stayed at 3408 and it was too noisy in the morning and afternoon (swimming pool music), so we couldn't really rest.

Property was clean and staff was wonderful but the food was very disappointing.

Hotel is nice and clean. Staff is friendly and welcoming. The beds are super comfortable. Would recommend to stay at this hotel.

The staff are amazing. They are very friendly, polite and helpful. The floor in our room wasn't overly clean, but everything else was great. All of the restaurants at the resort had amazing food! Our daughter went to Mexico 2 years ago and stayed at a resort but after telling her about our stay at Riu, now she wants to stay at a Riu resort the next time she goes to Mexico!

Rooms are in a bad shape. They need to upgrade. Communication is terrible. They’re mean, they make you feel that you’re stupid. The only good thing about this hotel is the food can’t complain is good..

The property was overall clean, friendly staff and good atmosphere. My only issue was sometimes the adults only pool smelt bad but other than that everything was perfect!

Nicely kept property overall. Not far from the beach, resort provides a shuttle to the beach but it's less than a 5 minute walk. King bed room was spacious and well stocked. When my fridge wasn't working staff came to fix it quickly. Buffet was decent. Do not expect amazing 5 star food (they are feeding the masses) but it was well cooked with lots of options. Pros: specialty restaurants dont need reservations, access to other Riu resorts which are next door, kids club available for families, daily activities, the beach is nice and well kept. They take away the seaweed, not a lot of vendors bothering you like in cancun. Cons: NO ELEVATORS/ ESCALATORS. If traveling with kids/strollers/older adults please be aware of this. Only stairs. Wifi connection could be stronger, but it works well enough. TV was only in spanish, no way to change language. Overall I had a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

The room was old, small, and outdated. The toilet and shower area have no privacy at all.

Traveled with family, 12 year old and 4 year old. The staff is so friendly! There was so much to do for all of us. Food was good. I would say the only thing I didn’t enjoy was the two double beds pushed together to make a King bed. False advertising in my opinion.

Booking this hotel was the worst thing we did, a whole problem since we arrived and at the time of check-in they had no rooms available, inconceivable, imagine planning your paid vacation more than a month in advance and arriving at almost 10:00 pm and not having availability because it was overbooked, after a long day of work and then taking a flight, not only did the bad experience go by, but I was accompanying my friend and family who was celebrating their anniversary, and they didn't have the 3 rooms, to give them a solution Suddenly to the matter they proposed us to move to the neighboring hotel of the same chain and they promised us that the next day we could return to the hotel early without any inconvenience and at almost 2:30 pm the room was still not ready, we spoke with a manager who had no name I was not carrying any identification and it did not solve anything either, it was half a day lost from one place to another with tremendous heat and almost at 3 pm they finally gave us the room, and it was hotter inside the room than outside the air did not cool. I consider that the room was one of the most remote possible since we had complained, but thank God we were able to take the tour that we had planned. It should be noted that the buffet food was ok, but the repetitive food, that is, the same thing every day, was not I felt comfortable and I think I would not return to this hotel, more negative things than positive

Everything was good, service , staff, food amenities, except the flushing arm of the toilet broke off rusted. Not a lot of AC outlets and I think the AC voltage is weak and won’t charge our devices properly. The Shower water flow is weak.

I stayed at Riu Tequila for 2 nights. The pools and grounds are excellent!. The staff is exceptional. The hotel is consisted of many 2 level brick/ concrete buildings. Its very noisy at night. I was way in the back in villa 10 but it didn't matter. Mabey get a top floor because being on bottom floor you hear the constant moving of tables and chairs and its amplified through the concrete ceiling above. The halls are like a echo chamber with door slamming and and people talking at all hours. Bring ear plugs. There is a sweet spot between 5am and 7am where it is quiet. I was over the food quality and selection after my 2 night stay.

Clean room, friendly staff, lots of entertainment, fun place to relax and vacation

I booked the Tequila, got there at 7:30pm and they said they overbooked & had no rooms. They put me in a much less nice hotel, and offered nothing else. I will never be staying at a Riu hotel again.

I am not picky and typically love the riu. We went with a large group of women and it took a while to be checked in almost 2 hours over the time for some people. There was a a large group that arrived we were given the wrong keys and asked to re wait in line for a long time. We just experienced a lot of rude staff which I am not used to. It’s like we were a bother to be there, even the shuttle guy had a rude moment. Hector from the Asian restaurant was mean even though he wasn’t saying the same thing to other tables. Overall not sure I would go back here, if it wasn’t because we travel often to the other Riu’s I would not have gone back.

All in all the property and amenities were good. We didn’t expect 5 star accommodations so we were satisfied with almost everything. What decided our rating was related to a member of our party having a good allergy. We were very clear there was an allergy to avacado. Imagine our surprise when she was served soup that contained avacado! Another member of our party found it in their bowl and brought it to the server’s attention and asked about it. He conferred with another server and said “oh, that was a mistake” and just carried on. No concern for what reaction she would have, if she needed medical attention, just cleared the plate and carried on. It’s just super irresponsible and dangerous. Especially when we explicitly stated there was an allergy.

We were 2 ladies living in your hotel and experienced an intruder come and harass us at our residence the whole night from around 11 PM and eventually despite calling security, we called for the front desk. Nobody came to help us out or check what was happening to us. The man was shouting in and almost breaking down the door and the door has no boat lock has no like a chain that would stop indeed he had broken into the room. We called the front desk. A lady said she’s sending somebody they didn’t come. We kept calling nobody was picking up. It took all of 2 to 3 hours for a random human being walking by our balcony to decide to come and ask the gentleman to go and then he was speaking Spanish. We do not speak Spanish, so we do not know what he was going to do to us. I took the liberty of taking videos. I took our pictures we recorded him. We sent it to the front desk the next day and nothing was done. We even locate him again walking as we went to the beach we were terrified and for the rest of the state we were too terrified Women at your hotel and because you couldn’t go anywhere else we just stayed. I just feel that you guys didn’t care about our safety and the lady at the front desk can have a nice she told us oh we had something more urgent that we were taking care of so I’m sorry nobody showed up what that man had raped us! what would they be talking about this then would’ve called the police at that I’m really so you wanted us to be gravely harmed???

Most of the resort staff were fairly friendly, but they only provided assistance when asked—they didn’t offer help proactively. One major disappointment was that, despite calling well in advance and emailing to request a room close to the main areas due to both girls’ challenges ( having autism) with regulation, we were given a room far away. This made it extremely difficult when they became dysregulated, as walking back to the room to calm them down was a struggle. The food was average, but the service from one pool server, Daniel, was exceptional. The entertainment was also excellent, and the pools were great, with plenty of daily activities. However, accessing the beach was inconvenient since it was at the resort across the street. Guests either had to walk or take a cart that ran every 15 minutes, driven by a worker who seemed quite miserable. There was no system in place, so even if you were waiting with kids, others would cut in line, causing longer wait times. If you chose to walk, the cart driver would drive right up behind you without honking and would scowl at you. The resort offered activities and entertainment throughout the day and especially in the evenings, which was a highlight. However, the late-night food options were lacking. When we arrived at 9 PM, the only available food was leftovers from the pool earlier that day, which was disappointing.

The staff is top notch. Daniel & Saul in entertainment was beyond amazing. Manolo kept service going great at the pools & bars. Daniel, Isella, Jose were so great at the swim up bar. Leo & well all the dining staff throughout resort were fabulous. Security was very helpful with getting taxi’s & advice on local options. The fun activities made the week fun for our teenagers & us moms happy they were happy. Great shows & well organized events. The whole week was amazing & this resort made our first trip to Mexico a sure to return

It was updated nicely since our last time there. Gary at the front desk went above to help with our needs. Looking forward to our next stay there.

Our experience was very frustrating. The room's air conditioning was not working, and despite multiple requests to have it repaired, no action was taken. We also asked to be moved to a different room, but that request was denied. Overall, the service was unhelpful and unprofessional. Would not recommend.

Nice spot but we thought it was on the beach because one of the photos shows a dining area on the beach.

Riu Tequila is not on the beach, but you have a walkway that goes between 2 other Riu hotels to the beach club where you can get food and drinks. Loungers on the beach are plentiful although we didn’t go there much since we were only there for a few days and weather didn’t cooperate much. Pool loungers are reserved early in the day, so if you’re not quick, you can’t be choosy. You don’t need reservations for any of the available dinner restaurants and the meals were all quite good. Alcohol is freely-flowing, with liquor dispensers in the room, plus beer and soft drinks. If you run out, it will be restocked with a phone call. Drinks are the pool bar are quite good and the pool snack bar allows you to get a “lunch” without leaving the pool area. You can also get espresso drinks at the pool bar if that’s what you prefer early on. They have an umbrella in the room in case there is a possibility of rain and that was useful during our stay. This hotel doesn’t have room service, but they do have a 24-hour lounge if you need food or drinks overnight.

Pros: -Beach club was fantastic -Grounds well kept -Food was good -Wildlife was wonderful -Convenient location Cons: -Detail cleaning in the room could have been better. -some room maintenance, our door had been broken and one hinge not attached and not properly repaired for example - the pools were square and uninspiring though well used. There was a free-form pool at Yucatan which was nicer and available to Tequila guests. - the Rui app was poor- stopped using it during visit. Boards in lobby were better - difficult to tell where activities were being held - requests through the app did not get response - evening entertainment was hit and miss - for a resort which catered to so many families, a shaded playground would have been a real plus I have stayed at several 5 star resorts in the Mayan Riviera. Hands down, best beach, shaded areas and availability of beach chairs. Would I return? Definitely. Good value, beautiful setting, good food, nice staff, good value.

First time visiting Mexico and wasn’t sure what to expect given that I’d never done something all-inclusive like this before (traveled abroad many times elsewhere) - Had an absolute blast with 3 friends of mine (26-27yrs old). Beach is a 5 min walk from Riu Requila and The resort was in a huge gated area along with the other resorts which makes you feel safe. We reserved transportation to and from the airport through Cancun Shuttle and had zero issues. Facilities and rooms were clean, food was good, staff was excellent all around and did everything to ensure we had a great time. We stayed in our bubble of resorts the entire time, but there’s plenty to do if you want to do a tour of some kind off-site. Very balanced mix of young, middle aged and older travelers. We went during peak spring break time and I was concerned the place would be littered with college kids - not the case. Whether you like to drink & socialize @ the pool all day long with people you don’t know (guilty as charged), relax in quiet, or go explore, this was a great place to be for a week.

Great location though not directly on the beach (but transport is provided to the hotels beaches and beach club-on the other side of the road). Food is good, staff is wonderful; however if you have some mobility restrictions, beware that tbis hotel doesnt provide any support to move from your room (sometimes rather far away) to lobby, restaurants, etc.

Amazing property and lots of activities both in property and off. Staff is extremely accommodating for needs and assistance- from calling a cab to helping you get in contact with excursion folks for all your activity needs! Several onsite restaurants for different food wants- all inclusive so drinks and restaurants are free (obviously)! Lots of pools - even a swim up bar for the adults! We don’t have kids but if you do, this is a great spot for families! Short 10 min walk to the beach through a private walkway on the RIU property - but they also have a shuttle that comes every 5-10 min if you need a lift! They also have a restaurant/pools at the beach that’s included!

This property was very nice, clean, pools were nice and beach was not far at all. My only complaint would be the food and drinks. Buffet was ok, specialty restaurants were not good at all with very limited selection. All bottom shelf wine & liquor.

We enjoyed our stay at Riu Tequila. We liked that you did not have to make reservations for dinner at the al-cart restaurants. The buffet had lots of food options. Plenty of chairs by the pool if you get there before 10 am. It is a little harder to find them together if you have more than 2 people traveling in your group after that time. The pool area does not have staff walking around taking drink orders, so you will need to use the swim up bar or walk to the bar if you would like a refill on your beverage while at the pool area. The beach access was a nice walk down a covered pathway or you could choose to ride the shuttle, that runs about every 10/15 mins. You are able to dine while at the beach. The buffet has a nice selection. The only down side to the beach area is there is no bar for mixed drinks. They do have beer on tap, water, coffee and pop in the buffet area at the beach, but if you are wanting that mixed drink I would suggest to bring one with you from the lobby bar. Our room was in unit 6 and for the most part quite and easy walking distance from the restaurants and pools. One down side is you can hear your neighbors through the wall/shower ventilation system if they are loud or they just like to sing in the shower:) The room is spacious and offers, coffee, water, beer, hard liquor, club soda, ice bucket and pop in the mini bar area of your room. The shower does have shampoo and soap available but no lotion or conditioner in case you forgot yours.

Food was not good at all but the service and the drinks were amazing so it really depends what’s your going for

The staff is amazing and the restaurants are ok, but the buffet is bland and same day to day. Housekeeping and bar staff were great! The pool water is so hot no matter what pool. Been staying in RIUs for many years all over the world and this was absolutely disappointing. Very rude, rowdy and disrespectful guest. I felt bad for the staff. FYI if u ask for double beds, you get twins pushed together and Kings are at the end of the resort no elevator. Beach is also located at another Riu property as well. Only thing that saved this trip was the wonderful staff, but I will not be recommending or returning to this hotel.

This property has a lot of potential, but it ruins them with BAD FLAWS. First - the food is TERRIBLE. The buffets are so bad - same desserts every time - and they are tasteless and gummy. How does a Mexican ruin FLAN? Seriously? Also, I LOVE salmon - and they cheap out, giving it to us once every three days. The eggs are either undercooked or overcooked. The hamburgers are truly putried. What is that - meat? The pool is COLD - NOT HEATED!!! It's FREEZING. We had to go into the ocean to warm up - believe it or not. We are NOT close to the beach. You have to take a shuttle - and they have ONE SHUTTLE. RIDICULOUS!! People are fighting for position because this one guy drives one golf cart back and forth AND HE TAKES OFF for TWO HOURS in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY!!! Unbelievable. It's in the best area - but it's just dreadful. I'd never stay again and would NEVER recommend this place. Bra service. Bra bar. Goda drinkar. Bra pool. Bra rum. Välfylld minibar och vanligt vatten. Bra aktiviteter. Bra huvudrestaurang/buffe. Men högljutt i lokalen. Övriga restauranger OK. Lite dumt att det var en bit att promenera till stranden men det fanns transport. Mycket fin strand där stolar ingick. Ett plus var att det fanns en bra bufferestaurang vid stranden som ingick. Aktiviteter vid stranden som ingick. Provade katamaran.

Great buffet spread & food choices. Fun entertainment team. Love the neon party! Pleasant surroundings. Clean. Great beach, easily walkable from resort.
