Viva Azteca by Wyndham, A Trademark All Inclusive Resort

Loved our time here! The beach, pool, restaurants, and bars are all fantastic. Unlike most other resorts, this one offers free catamaran sailing from the beach which we loved! The paddle court on the roof and nightly entertainment were also highlights. The only aspect we didn’t like was the lack of help from front desk staff. It’s expected to leave tips for housekeeping, restaurant servers, bartenders, etc but it’s difficult to get small bills from the ATM or money exchange. The front desk at most resorts helps guests by breaking larger bills but they won’t do that here. We tried to purchase something in the gift shop, but the person running the gift shop also didn’t have change. Every other staff member we encountered was fantastic; we were disappointed only in the lack of help we got from the front desk. They also don’t answer questions. They will tell you to download their app and look there, but the app doesn’t always have enough details.

Wow, everything at this hotel was great, especially the staff and service, restaurant food and service was excellent, property was clean and spotless. I would recommend to anyone to stay here at this all-inclusive hotel, it's less than 1 hr. from Cancun Airport, lots of activities. My family really enjoyed it- very safe, only recommendation to Viva Azteca please time limit people in the hot tub if it's busy.

While the Azteca resort is nice, the best part is access to the Maya 500 meters up the beach. The swim-up bar, the trapeze, and the nightly shows at the Maya were the highlights of the trip. The only negative I have is about the a la carte dinner reservations. You may only reserve 2 dinners per stay, and availability was very limited. I wasn't able to go to the restaurant I wanted, and our group of 7 was only able to dine together twice

The staff that received us on arrival were rude and not helpful at all. The staff member basically asked us to take a picture of the map on the counter and to fend for ourselves. Pool time closure is too early especially when kids want to splash in the pool later than 8pm.

Amazing vacation for a great price! The staff are extremely friendly. Gorgeous beach and lovely pool. The pool stays fairly quiet during the day but various activities planned if you want. The food at the buffet was good, the a la carte restaurants weren’t amazing. We found our dining experience better at the Maya hotel. The rooms had good AC. Nothing special but clean and comfy The staff work very hard with the shows and were always very entertaining and involved themself in the dancing/disco afterwards. Perfect walking distance to lots of shops and 5th avenue You feel extremely safe in the complex and there was even bikes provided to tour around Truly the best beach we have been too

Overall it was a good stay, didn’t like that there is no waitresses or waiters walking around. If you need a drink from the beach you have to walk all the way back to the one bar by the pool area.

Pros: Small resort. Easy walk from rooms to pool and beach.great for families with young kids. Staff do a good job of cleaning rooms etc. Good specialty restaurant xulha and the italian one. No reservations required for these. Quieter than other resorts by the pool Cons: Dated rooms and facility. Sucks for vegetarians. Unclear signage and cross contamination with things placed right next to each other. No beach bar or service No.pool side service. Entertainment staff lack enthusiasm to.involve people in activities. Resort is in playacar hotel zone. Quick taxi ride to downtown which has a great walkable street with tons of vibrant restaurants, bars, clubs.

Smaller resort than what we're used but we liked it very much. It is located in a closed off area of Playa del Carmen making it less accessible and safer. They offered an all day long Kids Club which was a big plus for both parents and kids who had various fun and entertaining activities. Recommended.

Hotel room was very dirty throughout the entire 8 day stay. Clealiness never improved. The shower barely dribbled and there was spots of black mold on the shower ceiling.

This resort is very well kept. It was clean, though the rooms could use a renovation. The showers were outdated. The resort is eco-friendly, so they don't use water bottles. They have filtered bottle filling stations around the resort. They also offer cool water from dispensers around the property. The resort is very close to Playa Del Carmen, for any shopping you want to do. There's also a very decently sized market just down the road from the resort. It's a gated community, so it's very safe. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone wanting to stay at a nice, quiet and affordable resort near playa del carmen.

Nous avons beaucoup aimé l'hôtel (pas trop grand). La piscine et la plage sont agréables et il y a suffisamment de transats. La plage est nettoyée. Le buffet pourrait être plus varié et dommage que la salle soit partiellement fermée. Les snacks à la piscine ne sont pas bons.

The staff is very attentive and friendly. The resort is spotless. Beach sitting area is spacious with a ton of beach chairs. Food is ok, but par for the area resorts. Like the fact that reservations are not needed for the specialty restaurants. Will be returning again. Shout out to the entertainment staff and Louis the pool bartender.

Quiet rooms, wish there was more room on the balcony for sitting with morning coffee. Food was ok, but many items were cold. Staff was pleasant and professional. Room was always cleaned well. Beach was in good shape and cleaned of sea weed and raked every morning.

This resort is absolutely wonderful. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Everything is very clean. The A/C works great and the beds are very comfortable! Bring a water jug because they don’t use water bottles. They have filtered water dispensers all over. We had no issues with the water. Everything is quick and easy to get to, from the front desk to the beach, it’s a short walk. The pool bar is open 24 hours a day which was nice!! The food was excellent! The breakfast buffet left a little to be desired but the lunch buffet and pool snack bar made up for it. The ocean was incredibly beautiful with lots of activities. The nightly shows were great. The only “downfall” is no drinking in the pool. Their sister resort Viva Maya is a short walk down the road or beach and they have a swim up bar. I highly recommend this resort and look forward to going back next year!! (This is the first time I have ever said that about a resort in my 20 years of traveling to Playa del Carmen!!)

Hotel looks old, old paint on the walls, some dirty. We had a really bad smell of sea weed coming from the air conditioning, issue was reported and we were never notified of any updated, smell went away until water started coming from the ceiling near the ac unit, again the issue was reported and again we were never notified about any repairs done, after that the ac was coming out with a disinfecting like smell, out of the 3 trips to the same area this is the one with the lowest quality, food was great!

Second time to Viva Azteca this time with our teen boys. Same great service experience as the first. Very clean, very nice amenities and staff. Food is pretty good with variety. We will definitely go back again and recommend to friends and family.

We had a great time, the rooms were great but the floors were very slippery when wet, like more than a usual tile. Loved the variety at the buffet, only negative about it was that i do wish at least the main buffet was air conditioned.

Great location and safe. Small resort but great staff and very clean. The only thing I did not like is how outdated the rooms were.

First room was extremely small and bed was hard. They moved us to a new room which was bigger and bed was softer but it shared a wall with the nightly entertainment stage so we heard the loud music until after the show. Not ideal for older people.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful everywhere we went. I wish we could’ve had more dinner reservations as we were only allowed 2 during our 5 night stay. Also the balconies could use some drying racks or other ways to hang our wet bathing suits and things as nothing was drying in the room.

The first all-inclusive hotel I’ve ever been to that did not refill the fridge in the room. Staff is absolutely incredible.

Pros: the common areas of the resort are nice (restaurants, snack bar, pool, beach) and the staff provided great service. Loved that it was in Playacar and walking distance to the shopping complex. Loved the evening shows too. Check out process was efficient. Cons: Check-in was so slow; we were in line for 45 minutes. The rooms need major updating as they are old and outdated. Also, I couldn't understand why there was only 1 trash can in the bathroom and none in the bedroom. It filled up so quickly, too since it was tiny. Toilet paper and kleenex were so flimsy and poor quality.

The hotel itself is an older one and some of the stairs and inner court yard are showing signs of wear and tear. The area around the hotel is beautifully maintained and clean. The staff is courteous and helpful, though not all of them speak English. We stayed in a room very close to the lobby bar and theater. Each night the noise, music, and dancing kept us awake sometimes till after midnight. The buffet has a large selection, trying to please people from all different countries. The Ala Carte restaurants no longer require a reservation which is nice. The beds are too firm and the pillows were flat. We had sore hips and necks each morning. And the thermostats were impossible to figure out. We were either freezing or throwing covers off because it was too warm. Also there needs to be a guide for the TV on how to change the languages.

My husband and I went for 5 days and 4 nights to the Viva Azteca. We went in September which is the slow season and ended up getting a free upgrade on our room to an ocean view. It was beautiful!! The room was wonderful, clean, and the bed was very comfortable!! The buffet food was ok, but it wasn't fantastic. The best restaurants were the Italian and the Japanese restaurants in our opinion! We didn't have to make reservations, but it was because of the time of year we went. The beach and pool area were amazing!!!!! The entire staff was EXTREMELY accommodating. Also found out after we got there if you book the Viva Azteca you get access to the Viva Maya but if you book at the Maya you do NOT get access to the Azteca. So we were able to explore 2 resorts. A lot of fun overall

The stay here was good. Beautiful Beach! Pool is OK, nothing great. More for the kids. But when you have a beach like this who needs a pool! Our room was good. Could have used another garbage can in the room and some more towel hangers, but overall was an amazing stay.

The property was exactly what we thought it would be as far as looks! The beach and pool were the best parts of the resort. Unfortunately we had terrible customer service from the time we arrived to the time we departed. There was transportation from airport to resort advertised on the booking. When I called to schedule I was told three different things by three different people. Upon arrival to Mexico, we had to find our own transportation to the resort. When attempting to book it for departure back to the airport we were told they didn’t even have a shuttle. Strange thing was, as we were in our own transportation back to the airport we saw a large shuttle in front of us with big words VIVA AZTECA. So that was clearly a lie. Staff was rude and not accommodating. The restaurants were less than great. We were expecting much better cuisine quality. Overall I would not recommend this specific resort to anyone I know!

The hotel is nice and however we did not get the chance to eat in all the restaurants because you needed an appointment and everything was reserved, on the bright side- we were greeted with a smile and treated so well by Mr. Rene Munoz in buffet the nopal that I had to write this review...... The only thing that bothered me was the man at the entrance when we arrived , he was very persistent on making me purchase the time shares. He was on me every day and I had told I was not interested. He was very annoying !!!!

The resort is beautiful, food is great, beach amazing HOWEVER our staff ruin the good vibe!!!!… the RULE!!!!! The staff is stiff and fixated on enforcing the black and white rules For instance: they would only give you one swim towel per day, they wouldn’t want to change the towel for us it even if it rained allllll day! We are there to swim!!! One towel is not enough! without sun! staff is stubborn and would not allow reasoning! So we had to air dry as there is not way for guests to dry towels! Another thing, a cousin came over to say hello, and they wouldnt let us have a visit in the lobby, because the rule is only guest can set foot in the property! Even the lobby. They were on our backs to get off the lobby and have the visit on the side of road! Again! This resort is not focused on how to make the stay for guests enjoyable. They are fixated on the rules! Wouldn’t recommend this place, even though it was a beautiful resort. :(

Beautiful property, gorgeous beach good food. But the staff makes it really hard to enjoy your stay. They’re fixated on enforcing the rules and they’re very black-and-white and they’re thinking. For instance, they don’t give you more than one beach towel per day. Even if it’s pouring rain, how our guests supposed to dry and swim, if the towels are soaked from the rain. They have so many rules and are very stubborn about it. The resort is not focussed on making it a pleasant experience.

The staff at the resort were all amazing. They all were super friendly and helpful with everything we needed. The staff would treat us like family and did everything in their power to make sure we enjoyed our time. Not once did we feel unsafe or that any of our property would be stolen. The rooms were incredibly comfortable. The cleaners would come everyday to make our beds and clean up. The food was amazing with something new everyday and having multiple restaurant options. My fiance is celiac which usually makes it hard to find food options but the resort made sure they always had options for her aswell as making sure it tasted good. The perfomers were all great. They had a new show everynight from a world tour to a lion king night. We saw them in the morning making sure people were having a good time teaching dances at the pool to having games and fun contest that were available for all ages. There were always staff available to help us out with whatever we needed. They made sure we would have a ride when we needed it and aswell as giving us suggestions on what fun activities to do. I have nothing bad to say about the resort. Absolutely everything was amazing. The staff, the food, the comfortability, and the overall enjoyment were amazing. I highly recommend coming here if you are thinking about it. Even when i saw other tourist treat the workers like slaves/garbage, the staff would still do their best aswell as having a smile on their face.

My friend and I had a relaxing week long stay at Viva Azteca. The location in Playacar was safe and felt very much like a friendly neighbourhood. We did day trips to Cenote but also enjoyed riding bikes around Playacar and spending time on the beach under the palm trees. The property is well maintained and the areas were laid out well so you had privacy. Thank you

This was a great stay for our first time in Mexico! Gorgeous beach and within walking to 5th avenue (probably over a mile walk) and great shops across the way. Food and drinks were good. There was staff consistently cleaning communal areas and our room was cleaned everyday. Who needs top end when you can get the beauty and all-inclusive here?

The hotel was very well taken care of. There were many options of food at the buffet and the restaurants. You can walk into downtown within 20 minutes. The beach was AMAZING! We all had a wonderful time visiting!

Viva Azteca is a small lovely resort in Playacar, which is a beautiful, safe, gated area. The beach is beautiful. The entertainment staff is super friendly and works very hard. The service is great. Rooms are basic.

Staff especially Alejandra was super great help with . food is great and is an overall wonderful experience. Walking distance to 5th ave and ferries to Cozumel.Have stayed here several times and has remained a consistently wonderful experience.Highly recommended 😁

We really like the area. We can walk around outside the resort and we know its safe. Nice resort, quiet and relaxing. Beaches are wonderful.

Smaller resort which is what I look for when booking a vacation. Very clean, friendly staff and beautiful beach. Gated community so I felt safe and it’s a 15 min walk to 5th Ave. Good food selection and I would stay again.

Viva Azteca is a very quiet property, which could be good. We had a pool and bar view room, and it was still very quiet. The food at the buffet is horrible, minus the omelets. The restaurants were all blah at best. We had 4 people and tried something different each and only found 1 option that we thought was ok. We tried all 3 restaurants on site. We tried to go to Viva Maya 3 hotels down to try a restaurant, but reservations were required and they were not able to make us reservations for the duration of our stay. We did eat at their buffet instead, which did have better food than Viva Azteca. If food doesn't matter to you at your "all inclusive" then Viva Azteca could be a good option.

This place was excellent food staff, but a/c in dining area is missing and that’s a problem.

The only thing I didn't like was the food. I don't want to be disrespectful but the food was very bad . I Was there 4 nights and didn't enjoy the food at all. The property is nice and very close to shops. Unfortunate the food killed the stay.

We loved the resort as a whole. The atmosphere is very relaxing and tropical. The rooms were clean and spacious. The pools were nice and not overly crowded, although it was a littlw hard to find a lounger. The beach was amazing with lots of trees for shade. The sargassam was removed from the beach. Beach volleyball was played 2 times a day and was great. The buffet was one of the better buffets we have had at an AI. The food at the Japanese restaurant and Italian restraunt was very good. Just don't orderer the wine, it is awful. We did not get to try the Mexican restaurant because it was full. Also, we only could book 2 restraunts for our 5 day stay. There was a bar and food available almoat 24hours a day. That was cool. Overall, we loved this resort. The only complaint was the lack of food and drink service at the pool and beach. Anytime we wanted something we had to walk all the way up from the beach.

I give it an average review because while it is a good value priced “resort” the food has really degraded. This was our 5th trip to either Maya or Azteca in 4 years and probably our last. Would rather pay more for better food. Had dinner almost every night on 5th avenue. “Specialty Restaurants” on site have REALLY gotten worse.

Property was clean, staff was friendly, beach was beautiful as was the pool. Drinks were weak and food was repetitive. It was impossible to get reservations for the restaurants so we always ate at the buffet. Not too bad for the price.

The property was fine. Staff was very nice. The surrounding area was safe. The beach was pretty. The food was below average. Every meal we had at the buffet was luke warm at best. The actual restaurants on property were slightly better, but not by much. Apparently the other Viva property has more options but you have to make reservations for those and we could never get in (even when trying to book days in advance). If you are looking for a “lively” time - this resort is not for you. I was very surprised to see limited people down at the bar in the evenings. It was very quiet. My goal for the trip, was to get away from the cold and relax, so it did the trick. But it’s likely that first vacation that I lost weight instead of gained!

The property was overall pretty clean, although our room’s closet smelled musty. We thought the food at the buffet was very good and at the a la cart restaurants it was excellent. We liked that they all had a casual atmosphere and dress code. There were plenty of activities to do at the resort, as well as at their sister resort Viva Maya. The one big disappointment was the quality of the liquors at the bars. The spirits were bottom, bottom shelf as far as quality. I asked if I could pay extra to be able to get served the Viva Members liquors but they said that it wasn’t possible. Overall the resort was a good value for the money paid.
