Very nice resort. The beach is big and has a lot of seating, we never had an issue getting chairs. The pools are well maintained and we enjoyed the adults only pool. Many activities for kids as well. And the a la carte restaurants had wonderful meals

Small resort, clean, quiet, not too crowded. I loved that we were able to access a nice variety of juices, smoothies and waters any time without waiting in line. I also like that we were able to get in the buffet and go sit wherever we want without waiting for a hostess. The pools stay open until 8pm so we can still swim part of the evening. I LOVED the variety of watersports accessible. Among the included were catamaran rides (30 min once/day), windsurf group lesson & practice from 10am-11am (excellent instructors), kayaks, paddle boards although those seem to be rarely used because the current is a bit too strong for that. Available at extra cost were jetskis 75$ US for 30 min for 2 people or 65$ for 1 person, parasail 75$ US per person for about 10 min in the air (they ride you on a jetski to get to the boat to harnest), banana boat ride 35$ US per person. All the staff were very friendly and easy going. The dancers/acrobats in the evening shows were incredibly talented. There are bicycles available to use from 8am - 5pm for a maximum of 3 hours but they can only be used inside Playacar zone. There is a security gate between Playa del Carmen & Playacar. You can bring a lock from home to lock the bike at the security gate & walk the rest when going to Playa del Carmen. It takes about 10 min by bike to reach the security gate from Viva Maya or 25 - 30 min walk. Close to there is the famous 5a Ave where you can spend hours looking around & shopping.

It was our second year in a row staying in this resort. The resort is small (relative to other resorts in this area) and cozy – and we like it. Everything is on a short walk. And even this short walk is shaded. Nice clean beach with palm trees for shade. The entertainment was excellent, we enjoyed every show. Lots of activities to keep everyone (kids and adults) having fun. The trapeze - this activity is unique, amazing and SAVE! Very friendly staff. Clean rooms. Food is good - many options for everyone. Cozy Coffee bar. We are planning to come back next year. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone.

This was our second stay at the resort and we enjoyed it again. Quick check in, we had a nice room close to the pool. The resort has a GREAT kids club with great programs including kids disco which kids enjoyed. Huge thanks to all the ladies working at the kids club. The trapeze was also great! There are many options for activities. The beach is clean and beautiful with warm water. The food can be better, but we always found something to eat. We’ll be back again.

This is out third time staying at Viva Wyndham Maya. The beach area is excellent! There are plenty of loungers in the shade and they are on top of taking the sargassum. The pool is nice but we usually spend all of our time at the beach The staff at this hotels are very friendly. The animation team is a lot of fun and there are lots of activities planned throughout the day. We haven't had much luck with getting a reservation at the a la cart restaurants because we have only been here for 3-night trips. The buffet has a variety of tasty food and the snack bar always has hamburgers and other items available. I really like the size of this resort. It isn't too big and you can easily walk everywhere. I would definitely stay here again.

I have been to this region many, many times. I've not been to Playa del Carmen in many years; I usually stay further south. One thing to keep in mind, the main buffet is upstairs and there is no elevator. That made it very difficult for people who are especially overweight and for elderly in wheelchairs. There is a ramp so that people can go upstairs that way. But it was awful for a lot of people since it was literally, an uphill battle to get food. The pools could really use some attention. Especially, the adult pool. The first day I reported it to the front desk, and very little was done. There was a scum/film across the surface of the pool. And the tile at the water line, was completely gross with gunked up body oil, suntan oil, filth. I would never put my head under water in that pool. They never really addressed the issue. I even have photos if I can post them at some point. The specialty restaurants were very nice. I enjoyed the Italian restaurant one night. The housekeepers did a very good job and took great care of the rooms. Yhe landscape throughout the entire hotel was very, very nice.

Immaculately clean, waterside had some seaweed, no coral reefs unfortunately but this is just location based stuff. Staff was amazing. Shows and events all over the facility, 24/7 bars and food, absolutely beautiful scenery, everyone including the overworked staff was incredibly friendly whether they spoke English or not.

La qualité de la nourriture n’est vraiment pas bonne. Les piscines sont d’une rare saleté. Et l’amabilité de certains serveurs que ce soit au bar ou dans les restaurants, laisse réellement désirer. On leur fait des grands sourires, il ils ne vous regarde même pas…. Impression qu’on les ennuie.!!! Heureusement, ils ne sont pas tous comme cela. Les chambres sont plutôt bonnes. Resort was good and staff was nice. The rooms are dated show their age. Its a good hotel on the cusp of being a very good hotel and similarly on the cusp of being an average hotel. Pros: CAFE is nice, varios bars are good, staff is nice, waiters are very excellent and no complaints. Bad: Rooms are typical 3 star kind. Nothing to wrte about. AC run at preset temperature and we were not able to adjust so we just turned them off. The telephone in room doesn't work. WE complained about phone and AC but no one came to fix during our stay. Buffet is very average with not much variety. Drinks are watered down and doesn't taste like anything real. Very few dining options. They only allow you 1 dinner reservation if you have 3 day stay and 2 reservations if you have 7 days stay. Even then its very difficult to get restaurant reservation unlesss someone cancels. Someday I will figure out the secret of their reservation system. Overall, an average experience. All the excellent work by staff is marred by inflexible management policies and management not willing to take an extra step to make customer experience better. But probably post covid, everyone is trying to manage their expenses and I understand that.

Like. 1. They have a good beach. If you want a good beach an you are coming to Playa del Carmen, the beaches in Playacar are much better than anything close to town. Viva Maya has a very good one. 2. Easy to get to town. 3. Nice, clean and very safe neighborhood 4. Staff was wonderful, hard working, happy, good attitude, always willing help. 5. Not too crowded. There was plenty of room and space to sit on the beach. Beach, pool area and property are well maintained. 6. Place is clean. 7. Access to filtered water that you could trust Didn't Like 1. App for making reservation for restaurants didn't work 2. Poor availability to get a reservation at one of the restaurants -- staff should be more proactive about making a reservation either before you arrive or when you check in. 3. There were more amenities than we were aware of. Example -- yoga classes, catamaran trips, snorkeling trips, etc. Few details offered. 4. Food was mediocre. Some dishes were excellent and we were well fed. However, I would not return just for the food. Variety was okay. Taste for some dishes was way off. 5. Too many vendors on the beach. They should not be allowed. There are way too many vendors in Playa del carmen as it is. 6. There was ZERO top shelf liquours available. So, you got a lot of low quality ingredients that did change the flavor of a drink. 7. No bar where people could sit and have a drink, get to know a fellow traveler.

Traveled with 9 people, ages 15 to 70. We booked 5 rooms. • Check in process - confusing and they acted like we were inconveniencing them. • Rooms: 1) a handle literally fell off the room door upon opening & they said they’d have it fixed in 15 minutes. We waited for over an hour to fix & had to remind them. 2) 1st day there there was no running water on our whole level. 3) Patios are TINY - like 2’ by 4’. 4) Air conditioning barely kept up. 5) Don’t expect normal toiletries, they only provide shampoo and shower gel. 6) Beds are comfortable. 7) Mini fridges are not stocked. • Cellular and Wi-Fi - horrible service for internet, calls and texts. It was impossible to stay in touch with the rest of our party. • Beach - terrible with sargassum & the smell was horrendous. Although I won’t fault the resort for Mother Nature’s doings. It’s probably nice other times of the year. Plenty seating. • Pool - standard. Plenty seating. • Check out process - AWFUL. If you don’t have every single scrap of required stuff they charge you! It’s their way of nickel-and-diming you! Lost a towel key? $20 USD. Lost a room key? $10 USD. They even cut off your bracelet & if you don’t have it (say it’s the last night and it’s bothering you so you remove it) it’s $10. They give you a tiny scrap of paper when you finish checking out and if you don’t have that when you get into your transportation, it’s like they won’t let you leave. Just awful to be scrambling for that kind of thing on the way out.

There was no air conditioner anywhere but the rooms. The ocean was super dirty and smelled horrible. Mini fridge in the room was empty. There was no water or any other drinks. The only good thing was the entertainment thing. You could go at the onsite restaurants only based on how many nights you were staying at the resort. The food was OK. I wouldn’t return there again.

I would not recommend this resort. Food was horrible, they want you to use an app to make reservations for dining but nothing was available even thought we tried to make reservations the day we arrived. Room had a moldy smell, issues with hot water. No room service available. The only good thing about this resort was the beach, but you have to buy a membership to be served drinks on the beach. Worst experience we’ve ever had in Mexico and we’ve been to Mexico many times before. It was bad enough for us to pay extra money to move to another resort the next day.

Alla reception ci ha “accolto” per così dire una signorina maleducata di nome Fabiola. Oltre a non averci dato informazioni utili sul resort di alcun tipo, liquidandoci dicendo che era tutto nell’app, ha richiesto il pagamento totale al check-in. Per noi se avessimo potuto non sarebbe stato assolutamente un problema: abbiamo fatto un primo tentativo di 1000 dollari (avevamo il limite su una carta) ed è andato a buon fine. Siccome i soldi li avevamo caricati tutti li abbiamo chiesto la cortesia di aspettare il giorno dopo per terminare il pagamento, da quel momento in poi la cara Fabiola ha iniziato a trattarci come pezzenti e a dirci che a meno che non avessimo pagato tutto non saremmo entrate in stanza. Abbiamo fatto tentativi con altre carte ma la banca purtroppo segnalava le transazioni come sospette, essendo in Italia le 3 di sabato notte non avevamo nemmeno la possibilità di contattare aiuto. La signorina è rimasta 10 minuti a fissarci senza dire nulla se non guardarci male e abbiamo dovuto noi proporre la soluzione più logica (abbiamo fatto questo lavoro e sappiamo come funziona) lei non ci ha più rivolto parola finché un signore gentile di nome Adrian ha accettato la nostra soluzione. This was our 4th stay and on my previous couple stays I provided recommendations for improvements. One was starting the nightly entertainment on time. While not perfect this time, it was significantly improved. The other suggestion was to improved the graphic displays of videos shown before the night time shows. While there was no improvement noted, that is a minor issue. The front desk staff; the entire buffet restaurant staff; all the bartenders; and maid service ALL get 5 star ratings. They were all fantastic. And other than a disappointing “Audience Participation” show, ALL other 6 night’s of entertainment were absolutely wonderful. We will be coming back again as I felt this property is an AMAZING deal…which is why we have now brought 3 other couples with us during the past 3 stays. Great job to all! We’ll see you next year.

Felt very safe in this clean and quiet resort with excellent staff. The food wasnt the best overall but there was lots of it and variety. Something to drink always available. The coffee shop was a favorite and wish we could have eaten at the mexican restaurant some more. Enjoyed the evening entertainment in the courtyard and the wildlife around the property. The bed was much too firm for my liking and the pressure was somewhat brief but uncomfortable regarding the viva membership. Overall a great stay.

to be honest, they only care about the VIVA club members and not regular hotel guest. They have all the reserved shaded seating by the pool and beach while regular guest have to fight for chairs at 7 am. Stayed for 4 nights and only able to book 1 restaurant reservation. That's the policy. You can book 3 reservations if you stay 7 days. A little ridiculous to have to eat at the same gross buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 4 days. We ended up paying to eat off property because the food is so terrible. No seasoning, taste like kid food. This used to be a nice higher end place but has went downhill. You used to be able to get drink service on the beach, plenty of beach and pool chairs, and great shows every night. Just plan to expect a low quality stay at a 2-3 star resort not 4 .

Let me start off by saying we are members, we pay monthly to get VIP services on our trip when we travel. We purchased this back in 2024 & have had such a HORRIBLE time trying to book a trip because they never have rooms available. We booked this time via Expedia & when we arrived we asked if we could still get our VIP services. The front desk lady checking us in said no & we made a comment about cancelling our membership. She walked off to talk to the manager & told him that we are “supposedly members” and that we wanted vip services, which then he replied “well they can’t they can talk to vip services but they’ll tell them no” in a very condescending way. Besides this interaction with the annoying front desk people, the hotel was nice. Rooms were always clean, food was always good & the waiter service was over the top. Would stay here again but honestly, the front desk manager & check in lady was enough to not go back.

My family and I were genuinely excited to visit Viva Maya Resort. I traveled with my wife, two children (ages 18 and 21), and two 18-year-old nephews. We chose this resort because of the beautiful beach and the potential for a relaxing getaway — but from the moment we arrived, our experience has been frustrating and deeply disappointing. We arrived from Chicago at 11am after a long day of travel, leaving our home at 3am. We stood in the heat for hours waiting for our room, which wasn’t ready until 3pm. During that time, we were never offered a welcome drink, never asked if we needed help with our bags, and were passed by several bellboys who didn’t even acknowledge us. At check-in, the overwhelmed employee was drenched in sweat, clearly unsupported, and gave us a look that made us feel completely unwelcome. There is no real air-conditioned area to cool off in this intense heat. Yes, the coffee shop has A/C, but it barely seats 20 people — completely inadequate for the number of guests waiting hours for rooms. Once we did get our room, we were pleased with the cleanliness and setup — no complaints there. However, basic things like no conditioner in the bathroom raised questions about the overall guest experience. From 11am yesterday until 10am today — not one staff member has asked if we’d like a drink. The beach cabanas and shaded areas are beautiful, but are exclusive to VIP guests only. We weren’t even allowed to buy 1 same food at buffet daily limited choices

The resort was clean and the staff were incredible! I have celiac disease and the staff were very careful with preparing my food and I didn't get sick. The only downside is that you should expect a timeshare presentation. Members get many extra benefits that regular travellers don't within the resort.

Resort is well taken care of overall, clean and strong wi-fi throughout, even on the beach where the beach chairs were, which was impressive. All the pools & hot tub were nicely laid out and maintained. Negatives: the bikes weren't well maintained. My chain came off after riding 15mins, luckily I was able to get it back on and not have to walk back. Felt very safe riding in that neighborhood, there's even a few souvenir shopping areas right outside the resort. Minor gripes: Our balcony light was flickering constantly. and the placement of towel hangers in the bathroom was odd as they would cover light switches and plug outlets once our towels were hung to dry.

We always enjoy our stay at Viva Wyndham. This is a wonderful resort with a beautiful beach. Staff are friendly and resort is very clean. Walkable to 5th avenue. Nice market area across the street. Good food, great drinks and nice restaurants. We have visited this resort every year for over a decade now and noted some improvements over the past couple of years. We were very pleased to have the beach a no smoking and no eating area. It would be nice if something could be done about the locals selling their products on the beach. While trying to rest and relax I find it frustrating to have someone walking through the area loudly peddling their product/service. That is the only complaint that I have. Overall a wonderful place to stay.

The property is very well maintained and clean at all times. Staff are constantly present in those areas specifically. The shows at nighttime were appropriate for all ages and very entertaining. The online criticisms of the main dining hall are not fair in my opinion as the resort offers a wide variety of options for all three meals and in terms of price point for an all inclusive resort versus the affordability of Viva Maya it offers quality above what the guest actually pays for. The pool areas were always spotless despite some guests just leaving dishes and glasses anywhere they please expecting to be picked up after. I found the staff to be extremely courteous and polite at all times especially in those cases, and with almost any request that could be asked for. Our only criticism was that the mini fridge in the room did not have a freezer portion to it to store milk for our baby, but as usual the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us and stored it in their staff refrigerator at the front desk. Thank you to the excellent staff for the hospitality we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves this trip!

No es un resort tan grande, eso es muy bueno, la ubicación es excelente, el servicio del personal en general igual, sobretodo el de recepción, los primeros días que el hotel no estaba tan lleno fue óptimo, conforme llegó el fin de semana se llenó más, y si tu habitación está cercana a la alberca, el ruido que hacen los organizadores con el megáfono y los niños jugando puede llegar a ser un poco molesto, supongo que es inevitable en temporada de vacaciones, es un hotel muy seguro, sin embargo por alguna razón que no me explico la guardia que esta a la entrada de la playa tomaba como fotografías y/o video de los cuartos, playa, alberca etc, un poco extraño el asunto, en resumen es una muy buena opción por el precio, si lo recomendaría

Excellent resort located right on the beach. It's very compact so everything (pool, beach, buffet, restaurants, lobby, etc) can be reached in a minute or two regardless of which building you'll get. We had a week of fantastic time with my wife and our daughter here in July 2024! Thanks Viva Maya!

Nice property. Great beach. Food is good. Drinks are NOT good. Cheap alcohol. Location is excellent. Playacar gives you the option to exit the property to go for a run or walk in a safe environment. Walkable to downtown Playa del Carmen.

I cannot say enough how much I loved this place. The food was amazing and staff was super friendly, bubbly and accommodating. I was on a girls trip and we felt very safe and welcomed the whole time. It was a great location within walking distance of many shops and activities.

Very nice resort. The beach is big and has a lot of seating, we never had an issue getting chairs. The pools are well maintained and we enjoyed the adults only pool. Many activities for kids as well. And the a la carte restaurants had wonderful meals

Overall we enjoyed our stay, but the food is just okay. We ate at the Mexican restaurant and also the international, both were mediocre at best. Their buffet was pretty decent. The drinks, staff and property were good.

No beverages in mini fridge like most resorts. The Mexican restaurant was good, but we thought that they would have more of a taco variety. The Italian restaurant had no pasta options as far as regular spaghetti with meatballs and sauce. The buffets for breakfast lunch and dinner had a lot of options. However there was some very weird combinations like nachos with a bunch of different stuff for breakfast. We did like that there was a snack bar opened all night long. The café had a lot of good pastries and different beverages like cappuccinos, espresso, and coffee.

Like. 1. They have a good beach. If you want a good beach an you are coming to Playa del Carmen, the beaches in Playacar are much better than anything close to town. Viva Maya has a very good one. 2. Easy to get to town. 3. Nice, clean and very safe neighborhood 4. Staff was wonderful, hard working, happy, good attitude, always willing help. 5. Not too crowded. There was plenty of room and space to sit on the beach. Beach, pool area and property are well maintained. 6. Place is clean. 7. Access to filtered water that you could trust Didn't Like 1. App for making reservation for restaurants didn't work 2. Poor availability to get a reservation at one of the restaurants -- staff should be more proactive about making a reservation either before you arrive or when you check in. 3. There were more amenities than we were aware of. Example -- yoga classes, catamaran trips, snorkeling trips, etc. Few details offered. 4. Food was mediocre. Some dishes were excellent and we were well fed. However, I would not return just for the food. Variety was okay. Taste for some dishes was way off. 5. Too many vendors on the beach. They should not be allowed. There are way too many vendors in Playa del carmen as it is. 6. There was ZERO top shelf liquours available. So, you got a lot of low quality ingredients that did change the flavor of a drink. 7. No bar where people could sit and have a drink, get to know a fellow traveler.

The entertainment was amazing! Always something to do! Activities, sports and crafts for most ages. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially the Viva Vibe staff. Ugh but the food…SO FLAVORLESS!! Definitely wasn’t expecting 5 star quality at an all inclusive but the food was a 3 out of 10. Honestly felt like going into the kitchen and help them put some flavor into the most basic foods!! Very disappointed with the food.

The property itself was lovely! However the food was horrible. It’s pretty bad when the only edible thing at breakfast was jello. Everything was cold all the time. We had one great meal at the Italian restaurant on our last night. Apart from that I would describe the buffet as disgusting. That’s not how I normally describe food but this time that’s how I feel. We ate a number off meals off site just to escape the dreaded buffet.

Overall this is a great place to stay, pleanty of nightly entertainment,great beach access and lounge area. I really didn't care much about the buffet but it was all we could eat because of how limited the availability for the 3 restaurants they have. I wish I could have tried at least one of them.

The property was very well maintained. Theyndont provide face towels or wash cloths just hand towels and bath towels. Smaller property. Staff is nice and accommodating. If you're looking for a mid level hotel this is it. The buffet serves the same food everyday. I was onlybable to book one restaurant

We love the service and staff at this hotel, this is our 2nd time there and both visits were for family weddings. Antonio was great making sure we had drinks at the beach and pool area. The bar tenders at the pool bar work hard but there was always a long line, therefore Antonio took great care of us. The food and drinks have gotten bad, they don't have good selection of liquior and unfortunately we did witnessed a bar tender watering down some of the liquor bottles, which was very disappointing. We only liked one of the dinners which was when they had Mexican theme food, the rest of the nights was the same type of food, same goes with breakfast, everything has gotten very generic. Also they terraza dinning room has no ac, therefore is hot. Our room ac wasn't working properly, and even though they checked it, it never went down passed 24c. The staff was always nice and friendly, but will not be returning there, they do try hard to keep the beach clean from sargassum, it's just not worth the amount of money we spent
