Grand Riviera Princess - All Inclusive

Staff was accommodating and friendly. Everything everywhere was very clean. A couple things- The property is still being renovated, the website states renovations are complete. Website also states there are 9 restaurants, a deli, snacks, 12 pools, 4 hot tubs and an indoor pool- amongst other amenities that were nowhere to be found. There are Mexican raccoons EVERYWHERE. They broke into our room, ate our food. There are 4 restaurants- we saw no indoor pool, hot tubs, nightclub, deli, snacks and about 6 pools. Disliked- the concierge (whom I believe is the link to Expedia) pressured us to attend a presentation, every time we saw him! A second concierge refused to book our complimentary spa services because we wouldn’t agree to attend! I was told initially that I’d receive a spa service of my choice for 2 and upon attempting to book was told I had to attend said presentation and the spa service was a 5 or 10 minute hand massage and could only be booked at 10am - if available. Needless to say, we received no spa service. Finally our flights changed so we arrived a day later and had to book an additional night and Expedia charged an astronomical price, and refused to give ANY credit from the first night which we missed. I was told I’d receive a refund of 50% of a night— I have not received anything.

They are remodeling part of the hotel, but the areas that are open are still pretty big and spacious. The trolly was frequently coming and going which was nice! The main food hall options are limited and average, so definitely recommend making reservations if possible. They have several pools and they are all spread out nicely so it’s not as crowded. The hotel offers limited shuttles that go downtown, however if you stay out late or miss it you will need to get a cab bc the hotel is not at a walkable distance. Also don’t bother doing pre-check in since they still make you check in at the front desk and require all documents.

The staff at this hotel is fantastic. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. They went out of their way to make special meals for both of my children who have dietary restrictions. The property itself is in need of updating. Our room had parts falling off the wall. There was no entertainment and not many amenities available for free I’m Many of the pools were closed due to renovations. However, on the website it said renovations didn’t start until November. The pools were poorly maintained and definitely needed to be updated. It also stinks to have pools that are so shallow and hot and nowhere for the kids to truly swim. Only one swim up bar was open and it was always crowded.

The resort was newly renovated and they were working on the other side while we visited. We did not know this until after booking. The room was in a good condition and clean. Staff is friendly. The food was good for an all inclusive. Recommended areas for improvement: we had to request the mini bar be refreshed and adequate towels/wash clothes multiple times, and they had no activities for kids 8-18yrs. The arcade/game room and water park with slides were both closed during our stay.

Staff are amazing! The resort was great and I’m sure if all the amenities were opened I would have given it full stars. Disappointed that some areas were closed without any notice, as the construction closures only referenced to accommodations. Buffet was good as were the restaurants. Nightlife seemed a bit quiet.

Let’s start off by saying the staff were so nice and always very friendly! However, the resort was nice, but the room smelt like mould and had sewage smells a few times where we had to call the front desk. We originally picked this resort in Mexico because of the amazing kids pool and slide area. We were moved last minute from the Grand Riviera to the Grand Sunset next door where they said it had opened brand new w/renos as of Nov 1. However, that was not the case the pool area for the kids was not open at all for the two weeks that we were there and they failed to mention there was constant active construction, jackhammering and loud noise all day long. We actually complained to Expedia because they failed to mention that. If you read in the very fine print and scroll down far into policies they mention a few sentences about some construction, but it’s very limited information. We feel like the hotel was very deceptive and not transparent in addressing how much construction was actually going on. When we complained to the hotel, they basically blamed this on Expedia and said that they knew about this construction for a year in advance. However, Expedia was very helpful and we came to a resolution on an agreement. We had to provide proof videos and photos of the active construction happening at the resort which was immediately outside our balcony, demoing a pool bar with active jack hammering and power tools all day long. If we’d known, we would’ve booked elsewhere.

Staff was the best , food and entertainment were also great. There were renovations going on that were not told to us before arrival. And there were many of the al a carte restaurants that were not open due to the renovations. Also the beach food area was also closed. And the carts near the pools were also closed for food

Grounds were nice. Rooms were in good condition , food was lack luster compared to competition down the road, property under Reno’s not all amenities available.

When we arrived the sheets were covered in hair. Our pillows had mildew and mold covered. We also only had a use of 30% of the facilities due to renovations.

Very to no help at all from staff, room was dirty and the floor in the room was dirty coming with a big party and the staff wanted to sit us separately in the restaurants.

Everything was great. Very very clean resort and very nice staff. No complaints at all.

We had mold all over our room. It stunk. The curtains were all moldy and there was mold on the shower head. It just felt dirty all around. The food was not good either.

This whole resort is spot less, clean. The staff, all of them are the best with their services and the smiles always on their faces. We will be back soon.

Our first room needed a solid clean after the renovations, always felt like you were stepping on grout or small tile pieces. The maid did not seem to sweep the floor, we felt like grabbing thw broom in the hallway. We were moved to another room due to our toilet leaking and it was very satisfactory.

The staff is awesome, the conditions of the room were on the lower end, room smelled like mold, beds where uncomfortable. The jacuzzi looked dirty. This was our 4th time there, last time was four years ago and the conditions of the resort have deteriorated significantly since 2021. The shows were average not exciting or a real wow factor. The food was better four years ago, more snack options like street tacos by the pool around lunchtime, great hibachi, etc. This time the tortillas were terrible, the sushi at the Asian restaurant was not good, with the exception of the sashimi. The staff is very attentive I'll give them that. Pool was not very clean, and you can just tell it's worn out. I went with a fun crowed so we had a blast regardless. Part of the resort was closed they as well are supposed to be doing a complete reno on the resort, which it really does need it. I think once they do that it will be back to all its glory.

This resort was an older one and could use a good renovation. The staff was not friendly or helpful. Limited dining choices. This resort lacks cleanliness. The staff does not disinfect the dining tables. The buffet area was not refilled with food. You could see the rundown kitchen and the walls were dirty. Bathrooms were old and smelled old. At the pool area there was no other amenities besides a swim bar. No snack bar. Overall, I would not return to state in this resort again.

I took my daughter to Mexico to celebrate her 30th birthday July 2, 2025-July 7, 2025. Our suite was beautiful with stunning scenery, and we enjoyed VIP status, which gave us access to the bars, pools, beach, and clubs at both the Grand Riviera and the Platinum Grand Riviera & Sunset Princess resorts. We had a great time shopping in downtown Playa Del Carmen, where we picked up some wonderful souvenirs and tequila. The buffet at the resort offered great service and delicious food. The Mama Mia, Le Fleur, Miso Oriental, and La Vaqueria restaurants were all excellent. A special shout out to Spa Maya for the amazing massages and for surprising my daughter with a complimentary bottle of champagne and a chocolate mousse cake for her birthday. I also want to thank the staff who beautifully decorated our suite with birthday decorations that I purchased from their vendor, as well as our server and chef at La Vaqueria, who went above and beyond to make sure my daughter had a fantastic birthday dinner. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is due to a couple of maintenance issues: the toilet ran periodically throughout the night, and water from the shower stall leaked onto the floor in front of the sinks. Although staff attempted to fix the issues, they weren’t completely resolved. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely return especially to see the resort after the renovations and hopefully with the plumbing issues addressed.

Swim up pool well worth the money!

I booked 2 beds and we got one king bed. The place looked like it was falling apart. There’s a musty scent. At one of the pool area there is a giant black mold. Check in and check out took a while. But the staff were very nice.

Overall we had a great stay! The food was pretty good and standard for a buffet style. The a la cartes were middle of the road- 2 were super good and 2 were not. Mama Mia was amazing- we went twice. We also got upgraded to a swim out suite which was incredible especially because we were celebrating a special occasion. Staff were super friendly and helpful! Our only quam was the construction which the resort did not inform us of prior to booking or anytime before our trip. Had we had known, we probably would have booked somewhere else. There were lots of construction noises, à la cartes were closed, other amenities were closed, swim up bar closed, etc. Because of this we didn’t feel like we got to experience the entire resort however, since we were so kindly upgraded to a better suite, we took it all as a win. Overall, this resort is good and we had a fantastic time!

The service and staff were excellent, very friendly and attentive. However, the hotel itself feels quite old — both the common areas and my room were outdated. My room also had an unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom, and while the staff tried to fix it by spraying something, it only covered the odor temporarily and left the floor slippery. The rooms definitely need some updates, especially the furniture and wall paint. On a positive note, the buffet was very good, and the Mama Mia restaurant was great. The Mexican restaurant and Miso Thai were just okay.

Rooms was really good but our shower light stopped working. Staff very helpful and friendly. Would recommend you guys to get a proper icecream place that has more than 5 flavours of ice cream

So glad I upgraded to the swim out room. This property is huge and many rooms are ot convenient to pools. Was under construction so alot of noise. Rooms could definitely use upgrades and the mosquitoes were horrible! I have no idea how they got in the room as we kept doors shut, but we had to sleep w long sleeves on in order not to get bit. Not the best food, it was ok but very bland and did not feel very authentic to many other resorts I have stayed at.

Room was changed 3 times 1 week before arrival, than once there it was changed once more for some maintenance issue. No compensation was given, was told they accomdated us just fine. The food was not that great, quite greasy. The beach was filthy the entire time, garbage was just washing up on shore. Disgusting! The rooms were in definite need of renovation, water damage all around the shower and toilet areas. Booked a king size bed with outdoor shower and jacuzzi was given a room with 2 double beds instead above the night club so it was nothing but thumping music every night from 11pm to 1am! Would not recommend and definitely wont be back, not the anniversary getaway we were expecting thats for sure! 1 out of 10

In our Room on the first day Rm 7215 the closet had a very dangerous step up into the Closet which i tripped over and lunged forward into the closet hitting my right upper arm, hyper extended my left pinky and hit both knees very hard. I spent the entire week there in pain with ugly bruise on my are which i still have. When reported to the concierge the next morning they where not to concerned because i did not make an indecent report, but then put a caution tape on the floor the same day. The cleaning crew took their time daily in cleaning our room, and the 3rd floor stairs where brutal ( no elevator) the property is enormous and getting the shuttles where few and far between, the beaches were filthy with algy so could not be enjoyed and NO Ice Machines for the room, in that hot & humid weather i don't think i would go back here again!

Staff is your biggest asset. They treat people great

The place was beautiful but front desk lady was so rude and not helpful at all. The manager was very nice and he tried to help as much as he could.

Everything was great about the property, the food options, the staff, the service, the rooms, the pool, the beach. However, there is this princess royal agency that tainted our trip. For once, they harass you the minute you walk in to the resort, offering you free gifts, tours and such but the reviews online are nothing but horrible experiences. I wouldn't stay here again for that reason, they continued to chase me and get me to do a tour that supposedly included a cenote tour and tequila tasting.

The front desk wasn't very helpful, and the first day was a challenge trying to figure out were everything was. The rest of the staff was great and we had a wonderful time.

Staff, room , amenities, overall cleanliness was amazing, but the activity provider/partner of the ‘princess hotels’ which is called “live it” is a nightmare, had lots or challenges with them , they rescheduled our activities multiple times(4times) with no valid reasons ,left us stranded(weather was great-no rain) totally ruined our vacation . This would be the primary reason I would not recommend to stay at the princess (sunset hotel). Hopefully someone reviews these and gets back with a proper solution! Looking forward to hearing from the team.

They would not honor my reservation made on Expedia. They made me make another reservation and pay an additional $1,000 for the same accommodations. Apparently this is how the operate- as a couple in the plane back to the US was also upcharged an additional $1,000. They have you 2400 miles from home and know you are desperate to stay- so they scam those who booked via Expedia. I will be disputing the whole thing on my AMEX. The property is undergoing a renovation and is over half the amenities are closed- but the resort says they are running business as usual- which is a lie. They trashed Expedia and blamed them for the upcharges and basically everything else. This place is trash.

The resort was very pretty, nicely done. The staff was very kind but long waits to talk to concierge or front desk. The teolky was very convenient and came around often. The whole place is slippery as hell though! Bring water shoes. I fell 3 times, my flip flops aparently had no traction. I broke my ankle on the last. Had to hobble around the rest of the time. The pools with swim up bar were great. The water is almost warm and the service was good too! Get a mud slide. Or havanna light. The ocean and beach however, was filled with seaweed! The taco buffet at the beach is good, but the smell was so bad that there was hardly anyone down there. No swimmers. Beach empty of people. The steak place made me sick, no one at our table of 4 could finish their steak. They were grose. But the bread and the sides were good. The mexican place was pretty good, great service and fast. The buffet by the lobby was interesting. So many options, but some pretty odd things, and things were dry. I went with the omelet bar for most breakfasts. The club was fun when they played good music! Some pretty scantily clad girls down there. Yikes! All in all, I'd personally try a different place if I go again.

Good location and the resort is beautiful but half of it is under construction, limiting access to some restaurants. The rooms in the princess resort are due for an upgrade as they are dated. The staff is beyond incredible and try to make your stay a pleasant one. The food was alright!

Beautiful resort! I chose the east coast of Mexico because I heard the beaches were incredible; apparently they are… from Nov-March… but not in July! We didn’t know about “seaweed season”, which we hit, so the beach was disgusting and smelled absolutely awful. However, the resort itself was wonderful! Lots of pools from which to choose, incredible food at the buffet and the many lovely restaurants, all on-site. The staff are all super friendly and helpful! If you want to leave the resort, you cannot just walk to another place, rather, you need to take a lengthy shuttle or cab. They offer lots of excursions at additional costs, but well worth going on them. The 60 min evening entertainment was great too; mostly dancing. The shows repeated after one week, but we enjoyed them the second week too. Half of this humongous resort was under construction, so there were tarps up and construction noise at times. The resort is so large that the half that we were on was not affected by the construction. We were, however, affected by a lot of noise from leaf blowers, trimmers and pressure washers, as well as music from the different pools during most of the day. In general it is was a louder resort. The other guest were also disrespectful of resort rules and chose to smoke and play loud music by the pool, and reserve chairs they did not use. Overall though, a great experience!

The property was nice, needs some updating in areas, but they’re working on it. It’s a little far from the airport, about 45 min drive. The food is ok, not terrible, but not great. But the staff is awesome, everyone was happy and helpful. My husband and I had a great time.

We booked this hotel from September 8th to 13th. But when we arrived, we were treated well. The bad thing was that half the hotel was closed for renovations! We paid for this hotel to have all the amenities, and I don't think it's fair that we weren't warned that many things would be closed. There was a lot of noise from the construction, and it felt unprivileged to walk past the people working. It made it look unsightly because it's divided by a green fence.

Property is exquisite. Staff and food is good. Could use more transportation options out of the resort

Staff was friendly. Place is clean. Pool water temperature was perfect. Food can be improved. More selections. La Vaqueria most especially. The beach could use some daily clean up to make it desirable to swim in. Too many sales people that try to get you to buy even before seeing the resort. More poolside activities would be nice even in low season to entice guests.

This resort was beautiful! Despite the renovations, it wasn’t bothersome to us and there were still many activities to do on the property. It was just unfortunate that we couldn’t see the whole resort. Most of the staff were friendly & helpful. Our room was really nice & clean. The buffet was pretty good. The food can get repetitive but thats why you have the a la carte restaurants. We fortunately got reservations at most of them except at Miso Thai. The food was really good, especially at the Le Fleur (fav) and La Haciendas. 2 out of the four reservations we had were late night. It seemed that the later reservations were, the worse the service was. The worst experience we had was at the grill restaurant. We felt very dismissed by our waiter, the wrong orders were brought & the steaks were not cooked properly. On our last night, we got to try the new location for the riviera buffet, which was beautiful! The additions to the food buffet were amazing. I wish we got another day to experience this new location as they had more options and the design was more modern. The drinks were great, although it did taste very watered down at times. The pools were also kept well. Jonathan at the fantasy pool was great! I suggest you join one of his activities (waterpolo or aquafit) at least once! The beach was also beautiful. The seaweed was not as bad as I was expecting. We got to paddleboard & snorkel(free). We were able to see a school of fish close to the shore which was cool!

The app didn’t state that half the resort was closed and not all the restaurants listed were open. I have been to numerous Mexico resorts and this was my least favorite. The food was horrible I almost fell multiple times a day. There was also no food options at the pool and you couldn’t eat pool side. Staff was friendly and the room was ok

This should no longer qualify as 5 star. We have stayed here before and it is simply not the same. First of all, half the hotel is closed undergoing construction, they are using the common buffet areas as sit down reservation restaurants at night. The construction was not disclosed at booking time. Food quality is considerably down. Breakfast buffet is good. Lunch okay. Dinner is terrible. Extremely salty dishes, overcooked meats, undercooked rice, and the worse was burn oil taste on fried fish. Had to complain to the Cheff/Cook in charge and leave to find a place to eat. This should not happen when you're paying about $900 per night for five people. The people working there, make the difference and are very welcoming and accommodating.

The property Is still under renovation and the rooms still need to be updated we had a 32in old school tv that stood on the dresser the jetted tub was not clean it had a rust ring around it as well as the jets had rust…room service is not included in your stay it’s an additional charge and if you don’t get reservations for a restaurant they get you a table if you buy a bottle…we basically ate at the buffets which was not bad the pasta and seafood options are good for those that do not eat meat like me…staff was friendly oh yea and the drinks are all watered down so make sure you buy a bottle at the hotel or order double shots on the side to add yourself

Only 2 restaurants were open and were booked the entire stay so had to eat buffet for all meals.

Half the resort was shut down. They did not open any other amenities for us. Very quiet with no activities. Club is so boring. Food is okay. Room service not included in “all inclusive” which is just crazy considering this is the first all inclusive I’ve been to that doesn’t include room service. Terrible experience.

Room was clean staff we felt weren’t very friendly. You couldn’t use your swim out after a certain time. All inclusive means just that shouldn’t have to pay for room service
