We had six nights at Islander, for the second time in two years. Last year we weren’t impressed with the room, but loved the beach and views, plus nearby shopping and eating options. This year I upgraded rooms to get a better view (which didn’t disappoint). However, the TV had a demo running that could not be removed. The demo ran on top of every channel, plus DVD movies, and was very annoying. A maintenance man gave it a 5 minute look and a manager gave up after 20 minutes (to her credit she did all she could). She promised to figure it out. It was our second night and we were willing to move rooms if comparable or an upgrade, but waited and never did get it resolved. Parking is also an issue. The parking spots are so tight that large cars and trucks take more than the space allows. Last year I was physically unable to enter my car due to the vehicle next to it parked so close. The only way in was through the back. The hotel security was of no help, claiming as long as the vehicle is inside their lines that it’s fine. I could mention other things that made the room less than desirable and the hotel off our list for future stays. As a road warrior, I stay in many different hotels, and I rarely complain or write a review. This was our 10th wedding anniversary and I had special treats planned (like rewatching our wedding), but couldn’t. We moved to a different place in Poipu and alls fine now. But we have no intentions of going back to The Islander again. Not worth it.

As a road warrior, I stay in many different hotels, and I rarely complain or write a review. This was our 10th wedding anniversary and I had special treats planned (like rewatching our wedding), but couldn’t. We moved to a different place in Poipu and alls fine now. But we have no intentions of going back to The Islander again. Not worth it.

Stayed in two different rooms for 4 nights. Wi-Fi didn’t work in either of them, as in it doesn’t even show up to connect to, and the information provided for it upon check-in isn’t accurate. TV are “smart TVs” so they are nextflix/hulu… capable, but they don’t let you connect to the Wi-Fi with the TV so you can use it. Parking is a disaster. It’s always at max capacity, the spots are so narrow you can barely get out of your car, and every night you have a half-dozen entitled people who get away with double parking their cars (but I guess I can understand they need to in order to be able to get out). Other than those two things that need to be fixed, the property is clean, quiet, and pleasant and we enjoyed our stay.

Great stay. Had a ground floor room with sliding door and small patio that opened to courtyard adjacent to the pool. Loved the quick and easy access to nm pool and beach. They have laundry facilities for hotel guests. But if you book a room through vacasa you can cause the laundry room Bonus. There is a shopping center with restaurants and small grocery story within 200 yards of the hotel. No food on site, so be ready to walk a minute to the nearby options.

Nice property, but the wifi was terrible and I was unable to work as planned. It went down repeatedly and definitely affected my plans. If you dont need reliable wifi, this place may work for you. No elevators for getting luggage to higher floors, so be prepared to do stairs. I wouldn't take my elderly parents here. Theres a walking trail right outside of the oceanfront rooms where people are frequently looking in just a few feet away from your room, so you dont get privacy or an open view of just the ocean. If id known all the above prior to booking, i cant say i would have chosen this place. There is shopping close by, and restaurants, so that was nice.

This is a really nice place to stay. This was our second time staying here.The pool is nice, and there is convenient laundry. It has beautiful views of the ocean. The staff is helpful. The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are adequate and clean. I didn't like that my "partial ocean view" was literally a sliver of a view of the ocean above trees that blocked everything - the view was maybe about the size of my pinky held horizontally with my arm fully outstretched. Very disappointing and we paid more for it. Also, the bar at the pool was closed and had been closed for some time and was closed for our entire stay. We were not aware of this until we came, and the bar was a big selling point for us to book here again. It was not the same without it.

Dated rooms. Partial ocean view room meant a small stretch of water could be seen when leaning out of the balcony. Be aware no elevators, hard to get baggage to 3rd floor, luckily the porter brought up suitcase quickly. Front desk staff was amazing, kind, knowledgeable, and fun to talk to. The bar was one of the best kept secrets on the island. Awesome pool never too crowded. Other vacationers seemed very happy.

Property was great. Very clean with lots to do. The pool, pool bar, staff, location, beach....all wonderful. Lots to do, plenty of food options around. I will say the roosters start crowing every morning between 2-3am and dont stop. Thats not really their fault. Also the laundry facilities were out which was a bummer but everything else was great. There are no elevators, just an FYI

The rooms are very old with dirty old tile floors. Dirty old and stained furniture, including bed head board, couch and table, and chairs. The sliding glass door was so dirty you could not see through it. The first room we were assigned to the wall air conditioner did not work. They changed our room and the wall air conditioner worked well.

Unfortunately, not a very good stay. The staff were good.The view was nice, but the room had a bad smell which lasted the whole stay. The smell made me feel like the room wasn't clean. There was no hot water for a shower the first morning. This was the third place we stayed during our trip and was definitely the c worst.

We checked in and we're given a room code. We entered "our" room with the code, but someone else was staying there because all of their stiff was around, though they were out. We went to get another room, but they didn't notify the person in the room we entered our change their code. We could have gone into their room whenever we wanted. We tried to get a new room and we're told they were booked solid. They told us we'd had a miscommunication, like it was our fault they tried to put us in a room to sleep with strangers. They found us another room that must not be used because it reeked of mold and everything was wet. I sat down on the bed and it wet my pants through to my underwear. We asked for another room and they finally found one, but the entire time they acted like we were the jerks. The ocean view was awesome, but it's really hard to feel safe when i know they're giving out room codes willy nilly and anytime could just walk into our room. We spent the next 3 days with me reminding the kids to make sure the deadbolt was locked at all times, but they didn't have a chain or anything for the door. I can't say I've ever had an experience like this in many years or travel.

Great location, right on the beach. Loved having a balcony with a view of the ocean. Lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. Room was not great: terrible bed, low quality sheets, blankets, pillows, and bath towels. Coffee maker and TV worked sometimes but not other times. Some electrical outlets in the room didn't work. Housekeeping only came to the room once during a weeklong stay. This place is a weird timeshare/condo/hotel situation so maybe other rooms are better. Pool and hot tub were nice but the front desk didn't have towels half the time.

IMO they could use a facelift. Our room found a/c very rusty and dripped onto the couch below. Mattress moved around on the base. No end table or easy place to cable on one side of bed. Shower was great.

Great location nice grounds, however ac unit was directly over our bed. Not too noisy, but did drip a rusty water onto my son’s pillow

Nice property, but the wifi was terrible and I was unable to work as planned. It went down repeatedly and definitely affected my plans. If you dont need reliable wifi, this place may work for you. No elevators for getting luggage to higher floors, so be prepared to do stairs. I wouldn't take my elderly parents here. Theres a walking trail right outside of the oceanfront rooms where people are frequently looking in just a few feet away from your room, so you dont get privacy or an open view of just the ocean. If id known all the above prior to booking, i cant say i would have chosen this place. There is shopping close by, and restaurants, so that was nice.

This is a really nice place to stay. This was our second time staying here.The pool is nice, and there is convenient laundry. It has beautiful views of the ocean. The staff is helpful. The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are adequate and clean. I didn't like that my "partial ocean view" was literally a sliver of a view of the ocean above trees that blocked everything - the view was maybe about the size of my pinky held horizontally with my arm fully outstretched. Very disappointing and we paid more for it. Also, the bar at the pool was closed and had been closed for some time and was closed for our entire stay. We were not aware of this until we came, and the bar was a big selling point for us to book here again. It was not the same without it.

When checking in they sent me to a room that the key did not work on the 3rd floor. Went back down to get a key that works. After entering the room, the room wasn't clean. Went back down. Now they said they sent me to the wrong room. Went back up to get my stuff, went back down and walked across the yard and back up to the 3rd floor of another building. Now after settling in the TV doesn't work. After 3 more phone calls to the front desk and an hour later they say they can put me in another room in the same building and floor but I'd have to go back down to get the key. And on top of that, Peggy said there's no guarantee that the TV in that room works. That is the poorest service I have ever encountered.

The hotel changed our room to a double room with sofa bed instead of 2 doubles, despite us checking this and them confirming it's possible for a room with 2 double beds when storing our luggage 2 hours earlier. At check-in, no mention was made until we arrived at the room. We also saw other guests having issues with their room too. Staff at front desk are rude and entitled. Only good thing is the laundry facility for $5 wash and dry cycle.

This property is a great location, walking distance to shops and a beautiful beachfront. However, the air conditioner in the room was so old and loud we were unable to sleep without earplugs. The front desk gave us a hassle about storing our bags for a few hours after we checked out, which I had never experienced. Not worth it for the price.

Great spot and great location. Central to drive to north shore (Hanalei and Princeville) and to drive to Poipu. Also easy drive from airport. Great spot with Coconut Marketplace at the doorstep too! Parking easy too!

The Islander is in a nice location, close to beaches, hikes and restaurants. The property isn't new, but was clean and reflected the Aloha hospitality. The grounds and pool and walkways are very clean. The reception staff was very helpful and friendly. We had an ocean front room which had really nice view and walk a few steps to the ocean. Really nice stay- highly recommend.

Indeed a little tired, just a little less nice than the adjacent properties. But it was a great place to spend our first 2 nights in Kauai, while the family was just excited to be on vacation and expectations were moderate. :) Right on a beach, great restaurant on beach also just next door, and centrally located to see a few things before heading north or south. Nice bunch of stores, restaurants, coffee shop, etc within a walk across a parking lot. Pool is medium, but is warm, has hot tub, and stays open very late (10pm). Cons: 1) TV never worked for us, and sounds like quite a few rooms have that problem, 2) fairly small room for family of 4, 3) Roosters will wake you in morning, but that may be true everywhere. Pro tip: Just walking distance to the north is long, kind of “wilderness” beach (no property in front of it) that we really liked.

We requested two double beds and when we got there, they gave us a king bed and a sofa pullout. The sofa was really uncomfortable, and the front desk was not accommodating. The hotel is in a great location for visiting Kauai. Property is nicely landscaped. It is right next to the Country Market which has lots of restaurants and a free Hulu show. Hotel has a nice size parking lot which is free of charge so having a rental vehicle is a great. It's close to the airport, and price was reasonable compared to others.

Great stay. Had a ground floor room with sliding door and small patio that opened to courtyard adjacent to the pool. Loved the quick and easy access to nm pool and beach. They have laundry facilities for hotel guests. But if you book a room through vacasa you can cause the laundry room Bonus. There is a shopping center with restaurants and small grocery story within 200 yards of the hotel. No food on site, so be ready to walk a minute to the nearby options.

Islander on the beach is a great cheap option to be right in the center of the active area of Kapaa. You walk very few steps to the pool which is about 15 to 20 steps more to the beach. There are no food options on site but that is no issue as there is a shopping center on the ither side of the parking lot with a few options. There are also options that share the same parking lot and all the neighboring hotels have good dining options. Great location, wonderful staff ... i would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We only stayed one night, but we loved the room and the property. The grounds of the property had beautiful landscaping and we enjoyed the pool with a bar with happy hour right next to it! We loved that you can walk on a trail along the ocean right from the property. It is a 5 minute drive to Lydgate Park for safe swimming in the ocean. The room was spotless and very clean. The bathroom and shower area were spacious and included nice quality soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. The kitchenette area was convenient with a fridge, microwave and Keurig machine. They even provided dishes, silverware and 4 keurig pods. The bed was comfortable with nice linens. The two things to make us give 4 stars instead of 5 are that we had to wait until 3:30 to check in and parking was difficult to find in their lot when we returned from dinner in the evening. Otherwise, we enjoyed our short stay, we would recommend and we will definitely stay again when we return to Kauai.

I was really pleasantly surprised by this hotel. My room was very clean and I was happy to be closer to the parking lot vs closer to the Ocean. The location can't be beat with shops, dining, coffee, just steps away. There are lots of barbecues which is nice for a beach barbecue night. Special thanks to Tiffany for bringing my ID to my room when I left it at the front desk. Such nice service with Aloha. Thank you Islander.
