Super 8 by Wyndham Des Moines

The hallways have a very strong odor of marijuana. The first room we checked into smelled so badly of cat urine that we had to leave immediately. We switched to another room, however the toilet did not work and there were feces in it. We attempted to use the public bathroom by the front desk, however there was vomit in the sink and on and around the toilet. We had to go to a nearby gas station to use the bathroom. If it hadn't been so late we would have left immediately. The grounds are very poorly kept with trash everywhere and uncut grass & weeds. The pool that looked so inviting on the website photos looked like a swamp and had a black tarp over it. There was also vomit on the floor of a gazebo outside that we briefly entered to get out of the rain. At 12:30am the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate. We were told that someone had just pulled it for fun. I have photographs of all of the above, minus of course the fire alarm.

The Super 8 is directly behind and butts up to the Baymont. Both are operated by the same owner and no one was available at the Super 8 front desk. instead there was a sign to go to the Baymont front desk because they were short staffed. (i had to go to the Baymont to get breakfast as well.) So the Super 8 is unsupervised and guests can do as they please—like smoking where they aren't allowed. The whole building is posted as "no smoking" allowed, but there was the distinct smoke odor in my room and a couple of brown spots in the tub which looked like cigarette burns. The tub/shower spigot handle was very loose but did work. The window curtain was partially unhooked on one side but too difficult to reattach behind the decorative cover board. I didn't see a room darkening roll down shade. So unless you have something with you, you cannot close the curtains to darken the room. The room was clean, recently renovated, great mattress, and quite nice; the was conpletely opposite to the public areas. However, the bathroom smelled like someone had used it and the toilet bowl still hadn't been flushed well. The coffee maker was missing the tray to put the complimentary coffee pod packet in. The on/off button did not work properly; I had to hold it down with something heavy or else it would pop up to the off setting. The two desk clerks were courteous and competent. The night desk clerk at The Baymont came out quickly and checked me in.

U had to check in and out at another hotel. No notice given. None of the doors locked to get into hotel. The hallways and steps were filthy and smelled horrible. There was a bag over the smoke detector. The curtains were old. Bathroom was clean. Good amenities. And the pool was not opened which wasnt listed on site.

Filthy! Halls, room filthy. Nobody at the desk, had to go next door to another hotel to check in. keys to room didn't work. Ice machine didn't work. Tv didn't work, they had to bring in another direct tv box.Toilet lid moved around when you sat on it. A stick of butter for everyone to use for breakfast. No coffee or cups in room, but a coffee pot was provided. Never stay here again.

Internet wasn’t working, TV wasn’t working, curtains were broken, no bath towels in the room. Won’t stay here again

No staff. Had to go to another hotel to check in or ask for help. AC hanging off wall. Tv did not work. Two days multiple times asked to fix and nothing. If you wanted anything had to walk clear to another hotel, even then no assistance. I didnt get anything that was advertised or paid for. Never again. I deserve money back.

Unattended, NO amenities on site like breakfast, coffee, newspaper, laundry as stated on their website. Have to leave the property for check in/check out, breakfast, coffee. Will Never Ever recommend this property to anyone else… very very sad and disappointed…

Had worst experience in this hotel. For check-in, I had to go to Baymont hotel which is located in same compound. Baymont staff was rude. Roms were not clean and had very bad smell. There was no one available in Super8 reception area. They shows photo of beautiful swiming pool but the swiming pool does not have any water. Also, I had breakfast included in my reservation but no breakfast was provided. Other than that, garbage was being thrown out of windows by cleaning staff. Never expected such a bad experience from Super8 which is managed by wyndhum. Also, why hotels.com is keeping such hotels in their list. It should be removed immediately from their listing. Why should any visitor/customer suffers as they trust Super8 by wyndhum and hotels.com. I give 0 ratings to this hotel. @hotels.com, pleaese take required actions and remove it from listing asap

The property only accepted cash and couldn’t make change. Sent me to a gas station to make my own change. Then property didn’t give my change back. No coffee cups, no ice, no wash cloths and none of outside doors locked.

Already called Expedia for a refund. The pool isn’t even functioning, the property is dirty, staff at the front desk was rude and is posting another number besides the one to contact. 3 other couples were also looking for another place to stay. Never even checked in. Expedia shouldn’t even advertise this property

Non- Smoking room However the room smelled of pot smoking, beds were not clean. One bed had a hole in the sheet and a pebble in it. The other bed had black flakes on the bed when we moved the pillow. There was a bug in the bathtub. The door would not lock you just could open it by turning the door knob. I did not stay there for more than 5 minutes. Would not recommend it to anybody.

Beds made. No towels. Room not cleaned. Hair in tub. Hair on floors dirty toilet. Advised front desk. Was advised they would handle. All that was done was placing towels in room and wiping hair up. Room still dirty and toilet never cleaned. Very run down.

Room was never cleaned from previous occupants. No clean sheets or towels. Garbage left scattered in room. Filthy carpets. Entire place had a bad smell. Moved to a new room that had a cigarette burn in the sheet.

This property was filthy. There was what looked like blood on tissue holder, a hair on my pillow and semen on a bedspread. After obtaining a new room, the room had a dirty toilet top, stained sheets and the room had zero toilet paper. I suffered through one night but stayed somewhere the second. I paid extra money to not sleep in disgust. I will probably never use this site to book again.

This was a gross hotel. They have the front "nice" hotel and then the back "crappy" hotel. Not sure how they figure who stays where. As soon as I walked into the building, it smelled so bad. Definitely can tell pot must be legal there. Didn't smell it in the main building. There were what looked like bloodstains everywhere, from the bedding to the ceiling. The pool wasn't even cleaned or usable. Will never book this hotel again.

One of the beds was made with unlaunderd sheets. dark hairs covered them. We requested the front desk to remake the bed, which they never did. Hours later we had to go to front desk again to ask for bed sheets and towels which had not been provided. The worker finally showed up to give us wadded up bed sheets and towels. yes, we made our own bed. Bathroom and floor was filthy. Dryer sheets were stuck in the ac unit, presumably to cover the smell of pot waffing from the halls. Even a shower did not lessen the dirty feeling of this hotel.

Bathroom no shower curtain, unable to use shower head, no plug for tub, so unable to clean unless sink. Water dripping from air conditioning inside the room, carpet soaked. Room smelled of vomit and stale air. No Wi-Fi, No one to check us in had to travel to neighboring hotel. Do not stay here!

Worst place i have ever stayed at. The tiled floor as you entered was disgusting. There was cigarette butts on the floor. There was dog food in a corner on the floor. The room was disgusting, the carpet was stained. The Toilet was dirty, looked liked dried urine on the base. I didn't stay the second night even though i paid for it. I wasn't able to get a refund because i paid for it with hotels.com. I had to pay 200.00 for a room at a different hotel. Do not stay at this hotel.

The facility is old, very dirty, unkept and the room really smells like mold, mildew.

I booked a room king bed but got a 2 twin beds. Also after a very wait to check in - I could get to my room till 7:30pm!! When I finally reached my room and the tv wouldn't work and there was no toilet tissue in the bathroom!!! I will never go to this property again and would NOT RECOMMEND IT!!!!

Liked nothing. Room had brokn cracked mirror and window. Entry door no lock, no ice. Told this to lady at desk ans she smiled and said she knows

No lights, no t.v no heat!!!!!

The room was kind of gross. There was a weird goo on the carpet in one spot. When I walked on the carpet, it discolored my just washed feet. Then when I was packing up to leave, my door stopped working. I had the person from the front desk and then the manager try to get it back open for an hour before they actually climbed through the window to get back in.

No heat, t.v , power!!!!!

Air condition was effective but sounded like a jet plane was taking off next to me and woke me up multiple times. No towels, washcloths, bar soap hand soap, or facial tissue. The light when you come in the door did not work, the television did not work. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

Dirty, run down, no sound insulation

Room was dirty and towels had dark stains on them. We went out and bought our own. No garbage can, television didn’t work, missing cases on the pillows. No coffee maker but stuff to make it. Air conditioner and microwave sounded like they were going to die

Our room was not the worst thing ever but they were very unorganized - tried turning us away when I had reserved and paid for the room already. The biggest thing was that there was no air conditioning which made for a long night.

So my first room the tv did not work. I had to go to the Baymont next door, as there was no staff at the desk at the super 8. The desk clerk at Baymont moved me to another room, cool, but I still needed to get my things out of the original room ! She made another card so I could get my things, I got them and moved to the new room, and returned the card for the first room. Got into the second room, which was nicer. The tv in the second room did not work either ! I decided#@$& it, and did not go back to complain ! My second night, I got back after work, and the key would not open the door ! So another trip to the desk at Baymont ! As there was still not anyone at super 8 desk, and they are both owned and operated by the same people !

Only 1 towel in bathroom, no tissues, breakfast was next door and didn’t have syrup or butter to go with waffles or toast. Room had a nasty smell. Had to go to hotel next door to check in.

New management is awesome

It was my worst experience at any hotel establishment I have ever had. The keys to the rooms didn't work which was a known problem to staff that they didn't care to fix. So few workers that you couldn't check in at the hotel we had a room for and instead had to go to the hotel next door to check in. Nothing in the hotel looked like it had been cleaned in at least a month and the workers were talking about filming a porn in the hotel in front of my wife and I. When I went in to cancel the room immediately before I could even finish my thought I was told "Listen honey it doesn't matter what your excuse is you're not getting a refund." Needless to say it was awful and I will not be going back.

I waited in the lobby for 45 mins to be checked in staff never came I called the property multiple times. The n had to find a new hotel to stay in so we could sleep for the night. I may never stay at a Wyndham hotel again. We had wrestlers who needed to be in bed and rested we made an 8 hour drive from Oklahoma I’m pretty furious. I left a note on the counter to be contacted and was not.

Wasn't even able to check in. No one at the front desk and no signs with any instructions. Apparently you need to go to the hotel next door to check in. Paid for a night that I wasn't able to use. Had to book another hotel and forfeit my money. Best to look elsewhere.

No front desk, had to go through the other hotel. No managers on site to speak to about help. Room in falling apart condition, no pool as advertised, outside furniture broken, duct taped windows, trash in hallway, dirty towels, no no breakfest as advertised, beds and cots in business center, people sitting in hallways because business center full of beds. Wifi didnt work, no tv remote, Corn husks in lounge. Basically the worse hotel I've ever been to. Not one photo on line matched this hotel and because no one was on site to speak to, there was no help or ability to fix and problem. You were trapped.

No maintenance, TV/ remote problems. Property not taken care of. Front of building closed by the fire Marshal . on and on. Gal at the front desk did the best she could with no help from management.

I tried calling the motel for hours to try and find out what the latest check in could be. Never got ahold of anyone. Upon arriving at the Super 8, there was a sign on the front desk stating due to staffing issues I had to go to the Baymont next door to check in. I live in another state and did not feel comfortable with my two daughters, navigating to another new place. After getting keys we proceeded to enter the Super 8 and were overwhelmed by the smell of what appeared to be human urine, marijuana and strong cigarette smell in the hallways. The room itself was not clean and we found cockroaches in the bathroom as well as on the wall above the microwave. The sheets were dirty on both beds so we slept on top of the blankets but didn't sleep well due to an unidentified smell in the room. Also,the breakfast was not available because of short staffing, but no sign was put out until morning, so we had to find alternate breakfast at an expense we didn't plan for. Another amenity unavailable was the pool. It was clearly unusable with standing algae water, green in color. We could not wait to get out of there and will never stay at a Super 8 or a Baymont again in my life. I will definitely be requesting a refund for this nightmare stay.

“You get what you pay for” It was so sketchy. The motel was BEHIND what looks like a nicer one (but not by much) and no one was at the front desk. There was a sign saying that if we wanted to check in, we had to go back to the first hotel since the motel was understaffed. There was also vomit near the front door. The woman checking me in seemed to be under the influence because of the vibe she gave off. I think the biggest thing was the SMELL. We got to the floor by the stairs and ironically, there was a sign that said “thank you for keeping it smoke-free” and ALL I could smell was cigarette smoke. It gave me headaches and it was just not good. All in all, “you get what you pay for” since my dad and I were only there for one night.

Drive is not marked clearly

This place smells like weed and it's tucked behind a condemned building. You have to go to the nice hotel around the corner to get your card key for this dump. The AC is yellowed and hardly holding on.

Convenience of location

Friendly staff made it a minor inconvenience to have to check in at the adjacent hotel. The room was comfortable and an excellent value--gave me the great night's sleep I needed for my successful cross-country drive!

We were only staying for one night between traveling. It was eady to get to. The price was reasonable.

We were passing through on a long trip from Colorado back to Michigan. Just needed a bed for the night, I have no complaints. You get what you pay for, and it was all we expected.

The place was in an industrial area with alot of construction going on. the place itself was dirty. There was someone laying on the floor down the hall. We had to go to another building to see about checking in. We had decided we were not going to stay at this hotel and will not use Expedia in the future.

This was the WORST hotel experience ever!!!! We arrived late and couldn’t find the hotel because the sign wasn’t illuminated. The worker was exceptionally rude!!! She insisted I didn’t have a reservation and kept telling me she could only give me a room with a king bed, I had booked 2 queen beds as it was my mom, me, and two kids. Finally she found it. She did not tell us that it was actually in a different building. My mom is handicapped and we unloaded her and our stuff, I parked the car and came in to my confused kids looking for our room. I finally asked and she rudely told me it was in a different building, the original hotel I booked at but it seemed completely shut down. She pointed me in a direction, I tried to go that way but it was impossible to go that way. I asked why she didn’t tell me from the start and she rudely told me she did (which she did not!) It was midnight and my young kids were exhausted! We got back in the car, drove around to a different building, that looked abandoned and finally got to our room. However, it was very dirty, the ceiling was falling in and the carpet wasn’t vacuumed, there was a dog barking in a room across the hall…and the room: NO TOILET PAPER, NO TISSUE, NO BATH TOWELS!!! I tried to call the front desk, of course, there was no answer. I tried & tried. Finally we decided to use wipes from our car and no shower. When we checked out I wanted to talk to a manager but there wasn’t even a person, just a sign saying no one was available!

Dishonest advertising- “24 hour desk staff “ NO desk staff - you had to drive to another hotel to check in. “Free breakfast” NO breakfast.

We booked this hotel specifically to have the swimming pool and the free breakfast as stated in the description of amenities. There was no pool (the pool on the premises was not filled with water) and we were told they could maybe get us a key to a neighboring hotel's pool. The information given with the key (Wifi password, etc.) listed breakfast from 6-9am, but when we asked where we go for breakfast, we were told that we could "sneak in" to the Baymont hotel and eat the breakfast there, as there was no breakfast actually served at the hotel. Very disappointing to pay that much for simply a room in an unclean hotel. Huge false advertising on their part.

Check in is actually at the Baymont Inn. Room was missing desk chair, ice bucket, drinking glasses, pillow cases. They finally moved me to a room in the adjacent Baymont Inn. It was missing towels. I was brought one well-worn towel which had holes in it. Internet is down for the second day. Breakfast wasn't ready at 6 o"clock. People staying there helped get the plates and bowls out and chairs down.

The hotel is a dump. It was dirty and smelled bad. The pool was closed. There was no breakfast available. I did not stay there. Definitely should not be offered by Expedia.

Really the only good thing I could say is that the bedding/room seemed to be clean and plenty of channel options on the TV. The building and maintenance is in bad shape. Things were broken, really bad paint jobs, room was missing toilet paper and kleenex, the room fridge wasn't working. We walked across the courtyard area that needed some TLC to eat breakfast at Baymont next door because we couldn't find it in our hotel. We weren't planning on using the pool and it's a good thing because it doesn't look like it's had water in it for a very long time. This hotel worked fine for a quick overnight stay but definitely not one that I would use for anything else.
