The elevator situation was a disaster. We were on the 24th floor and there were only two elevators. For breakfast and checkout, it was impossible to get down to the lobby. The elevators were always full when the doors opened. We ended up walking 24 floors down. Also, the rooms were very small.

Experience was overall okay! The hotel was small but perfect for somewhere to rest our heads. The hotel was in walking distance to time square, many restaurants, and activities. The customer service/communication was not good. It took the hotel an hour before we could get our car from valet. One time we called to get valet and no one answered at the front desk. The second time we called they told us it would be an hour before we got the car. When we went down the car was not there and the front desk person had no idea what we were talking about and it took another hour until we got the car.

The room smelled bad. Everytime we come in from outside it smelled like someone has been smoking inside the room. We cut our trip two days short because the hotel didn't meet our expectations. The water in the sink smelled like sewer. The AC didn't work very well. Some of the front desk people were rude. Also, keep an eye on your cards that you used when you check in. They have charged me extra $250 multiple times. And the bad part is they refuse to help me. I would never stay here again.

The hotel is generally not bad, for no more than 3-4 nights. Pros: location, relatively clean, safe. Cons: very tiny room, no refrigerator, though we asked for one later and they brought it to us within an hour, check-in took a bit longer, had to wait in the lobby, but the staff is generally very friendly and helpful.

One elevator wasn’t working half the time we were there. The TV wasn’t working two and a half days… Do not pay gor a high floor. You will end up waiting 10-20 minutes or more for the elevator

Everything was awesome except the elevator situation. We had to walk down from the 26th floor three times during our two night stay. The room was small, but adequate, very clean, with a lovely view. Worth the price, good location if you want the tourist experience, the staff was amazingly patient, helpful, and kind while dealing with the frustrating elevator issue.

Location is nice, walking distance from Times Square. I booked the standard room and was informed upon check in we had a twin room. When I asked if we could get a queen/king room, the lady at reception explained we were given whichever room was left, as I had booked the standard room. Poor, but if that’s the case….. she suggested I would check the next morning after breakfast to see if we could move rooms. The beds were horrible, you could feel the springs and it had clearly been used lots as there were dents in the mattress. Checked after breakfast following day, was told too early, all during the day. I did, then told to check when coming back. I did, but nothing available. Then the lift situation; only 2 for the entire 36 floor hotel. And only 6 people allowed at one time. You guessed it, lots of waiting and braving stairs. The hotel is very dated. Showers were nice and room was clean. Would not stay again though

On the positive side, the staff was very nice, friendly, and helpful. However, the rooms were really worn down. We paid for a room with two double beds, advertised as one of the larger ones, but it was very small. The beds were comfortable, and the water pressure was good even on higher floors. Getting an elevator during busy hours was a bit of a challenge, but not too bad. The location was excellent. Breakfast was disappointing — the food was just okay, and the breakfast room was far too small for the size of the hotel and the number of guests in the morning. The breakfast staff, however, was again extremely friendly. Overall, mixed feelings. For the price we paid, I would have been very disappointed anywhere else, but I guess this kind of poor value for high prices is fairly typical in NYC.

1. Terrible mattresses in 1103. Both standard mattresses are sagging with popping springs on side closest to the lights. Had to crawl over the the side to get out of the sag and get any sleep. 2. MISERABLE wifi connection. Had essentially NO functioning internet for a week, which makes it really hard to conduct business, check email or use personal devices. Twice they tried resetting the router, but it was still complete garbage! 3. Upon arrival, shower curtain would not stay closed and shower faucet would not re-route water fully up to shower head. This was fixed promptly after reporting. 4.Key card kept failing. Desk staff said it was my fault for putting it in my phone/near other cards as it would "demagnetize" the strip. This was garbage as I've stayed in MANY hotels and always carry the cards the same way. They reset it several times and saw the lock itself was part of the issue, but lock was not changed. When I finally insisted on a new card, it worked for the last couple of days. My roommate's card had quit working by that point too. 5. ELEVATORS ARE UNRELIABLE. With 36 floors, this is BAD. Staff seemed quite unconcerned with the fact that on weekends with larger capacity, they have to "reset" it due to "overloading". THEY SHOULD POST A MAX CAPACITY SIGN TO PREVENT THIS! Being late to functions because the elevator is not working is NOT OK! 6. Small hallway near elevator and gets EXTREMELY crowded for breakfasts and general to/from rooms.

One of the hotel keys consistently did not work the entire week. I was charged $250 as a security deposit despite paying over $1250 up front before even arriving in NYC. That $1250 included a section labeled local taxes. Still I was fine to pay a security deposit. I still paid the $250 deposit, was told by the employee it was going to be refunded. We left the hotel room spotless so if there is a reason the $250 was not refunded I would like to know ASAP.

Staying in New York is always exciting.Staying at this particular Holiday Inn Express was exceptional. Michelle,Samantha, Devon, Touria & Oscar were incredible. I have NEVER stayed at a hotel where the staff actually texted me to make sure I had everything I needed. I GENUINELY felt cared for.From extra blankets & bottled water to directions & printing out my plane tickets, the hospitality was absolutely FABULOUS! The service at this place was superior. Breakfast was terrific. Everyday I was taking in all that New York had to offer and when I got back to our place, whomever was at the front desk sincerely was just as enthusiastic about my adventures. Every evening I came back to a room that was impeccably clean. The hotel is maintained well. Everyone was kind, courteous, patient and willing to offer assistance. I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express on 39th and I look forward to staying there again.

The service at the front desk was excellent especially with giving us directions for the subway. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection. The front desk also gave free water bottles, chips, and cookies for everyone. The area was safe and near broadway. The rooms were clean and the showerhead was strong and gave one a nice back massage. The only drawback was that people kept ignoring the six person capacity sign and loaded it at breakfast time and it broke down twice and we had to take the stairs down 12 flights each time.

The whole experience was horrible from checking in this hotel They took 813 dollars from my card then say it didn’t go through because the system had time out but it went through on my end so it was left with a pending transaction of 813 dollars….. So I ended up having to pay 813 dollars again because I was waiting for the 813 to be refunded back to my card …So my husband pay the 250 dollars accidentally fee with his credit card and they still end of charging me 500 dollars for accidentally fee which was 250 so how 75 dollars a day for four days added to be 500 dollars just a complete scam…The elevator wasn’t working we had to wait 30 mins for them to come get us from our room floor so please don’t book this hotel I never had this experience before so I was completely shock at the whole experience

We were very impressed with our overall visit to this HIE. Prior to our stay I received texts from the concierge asking if I had any special requests or questions. She responded to all my questions and even told me the best subway stop closest to the hotel. We were able to check into one of our two rooms early, which was a pleasant surprise. Both rooms received a gift bag with water and a snack. The room was cozy and clean. We received housekeeping even though it was only a two night stay. The free breakfast was organized, well stocked and had a good variety. The location was perfect for our needs, which was Broadway shows. We found plenty of food options nearby as well. We felt safe in the area and I would stay here again.

Room was clean but the best thing about the hotel was its location. Lots of good restaurants nearby and it’s within walking distance from a lot of key spots you need to visit like Broadway and the Empire State Building.

Property is ideally located. Rooms are better than we expected and it was a bit more spacious than what we see in the pictures. Rooms were cleaned daily. Breakfast was not the best. Staff were very cheerful and helpful.

Awesome location within easy walking distance to so much, even more than just Broadway and Times Square! Hotel itself is nothing fancy, but they provide water bottles and the breakfast includes hot eggs and sausage. They also hold your bags until 7pm after checkout.

The room was very small, but it is New York. The elevators were also very small and, especially in the morning when people were getting breakfast or checking out, the wait would be a long time to get on an elevator, and then would often stop at every floor, or most of them, making it that much longer. Several times, I had to wait 3 or 4 cycles of the elevator passing before I was able to get on one. It has a 6 person capacity, which people often ignore. Also, I have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express’ around the nation, and this one had the worst breakfast out of them all. (And they all offer the same exact things)

Thus hotel is not up to par...outdated and rough. Elevators are an absolute nightmare... waited 45 minutes for the elevator before lugging all our luggage down 19 floors just to be told they are only operating 1 elevator and the guy is choosing the floors he is stopping at. Checked in to a room that was almost out of all the soaps. Breakfast was not anything to rave about as the fruit was unripe and the bagels were stale.

Pros: Good and friendly staff. Everyone was helpful and they always check if you need anything. Our room was always cleaned and bed was always made in our 3 day stay. Front desk and kitchen staff were always there offering help. Hot breakfast was good. Tight space and elevator traffic wasn’t the best. Cons: One of the elevators was not functioning when we stayed so there was always traffic.
