The Gatsby Hotel

No ice machine. No refrigerator. Room, bed, and bathroom way smaller than they appear in photos. TV had issues - had to call staff 2x to come get it fixed.

The property is clean and very conveniently located amongst many restaurants. The room was clean but the facilities overall were worn out and you can see and feel the wear. The outlets were so loose they could not hold a plug inserted. The elevator broke down during one day. There was no hand soap provided for the rooms. The body wash was in single-use plastic. The clothes iron had a big gunky stain, and the ironing board had holes.

Close to subway and bus stops. There is free coffee and tea 24/7. The elevator is in working conditions.

I want to like this hotel very much. It is in a convenient place; the staff is very friendly; the room seemed clean to me. But they charge a resort fee on arrival. Yes it is advertised in the listing. But their website says it is for business center access, concierge service, housekeeping(?!), In room water, in room coffee, in room safe, and phone calls. There was no safe; there was no in-room coffee; if I make a phone call charge me! If I want to use the business center to print or use the internet then charge me! Don't charge me a flat fee in advance. Also the sink barely worked; the toilet barely worked. And I was given a room in the basement with a tiny porthole window and I don't think it was made clear that that was going to be the same price as any other room. If you tell me in advance I will get a discount for a basement room then I might take it, but don't surprise me with it.

An H&M bag with gifts for my family was STOLEN out of my room AFTER housekeeping went in and I told the front desk prior to that I did NOT want housekeeping during my stay. Beds were comfortable, but had to call twice for assistance with TV not working properly at night and TV screen was so dark you could barely see it. It is very expensive to stay here over Fourth of July w/e so getting something stolen from my room is very disappointing. I expect a refund for the $40 worth of gifts in the bag. Complimentary coffee in the lobby was nice but communication from front desk to housekeeping needs to improve and should never be stealing in a hotel room.

Fine for a night. Undisclosed mandatory fees are not appreciated.

We have stayed here before. The hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. Easy to park and do a quick unload from your car. Lots of good restaurants in the area. We will be staying there again.

Walls a paper thin. Outside noise makes it nearly impossible to sleep if you're on a street side. Rooms are alarmingly small. TV didn't work. Have to use ring doorbell to enter the hotel and their system was down so it was a 10 minute wait until someone came down and manually open the lobby door

The room was clean and bed was very comfortable, however very small. no fridge in the room. the time we stayed at the hotel, the free water/refreshment area was closed off due to someone messing up the room. there was alternative set up for guests, had to go to nearby store to get water. staff was very friendly though

no parking. no water bottles.no ice. no fridge in the room itself.and the garage parking was not at a discount.It was supposed to be included but since it wasnt at least they should have a discount.

Location cannot be better if you want to explore East Village. The reception staff was very helpful and friendly. However, their bathrooms seriously need work. Sink water has barely any pressure and so does the shower - if you can figure out how to turn on the shower without calling the reception. The water does not drain quickly in the bathtub so you have to stand in your own soapy water while taking a shower - yikes! There was dirt and hair on the room floor so they need to work on that too. I paid $350+ for 1 night because I wanted to stay in East Village but I would rather pay $500 and stay at a better hotel or stay somewhere slightly far for the same price or less.

As someone who isn't fussy about hotels, The Gatsby Hotel was great. The AC was perfection, the bed was comfortable, and the location was exactly what I needed. The walls were a little thin but NYC is a loud city. Housekeeping came every day with new towels, and a made bed. I wish they had swept the floors, but otherwise, no complaints.

Overall, was an OK experience. The location did get rather noisy at night (even by NY standards), but it was manageable. Water pressure in the sink and shower was often low, and the hot water came and went randomly. On some days there was more hot water than others. The staff was friendly, but often neglected to keep the coffee and tea tea properly stocked, and they did not replenish the soda fridge in the 5 days that I was there. The bed's fitted sheet was too small for the mattress. It came off several times and was impossible to get back on. The room's wooden floors were not kept very clean. It was frustrating leaving the shower knowing that your feet would get dirty again almost instantly if you you need wear sandals.

Fine but very noisy inside. The elevator made a very loud humming sound when it stopped that made it hard to be in the room without going nuts. There were people in the hallway talking loudly in the middle of the night, and the maintenance in the room was mediocre. For a similar price there are deals on decent places, but this one is just cheap. The staff was excellent, things were very clean, and being next to Yonah Shimmel, Russ n Daughters, and Katz’s was phenomenal!

This place was disgusting! We couldn’t even stay here - immediately checked out and found a new, much nicer, and even cheaper hotel. The room had food crumbs all over the floor, stains on the sheets/pillowcases, and just overall dirt and grime everywhere. When we talked to the front desk about wanting to leave, they came up to our room with a handheld vacuum to try to clean the floors… which obviously did nothing. Staff was at least nice so that was the only redeeming quality. Would not recommend staying here when there are so many other options.

Toilet did not flush - I had to lift the tank lid and do it manually. There was no hand soap. There was half a roll of toilet paper and no backup. The tv did not work. The shower did not have hot water. My room had one window and it was obstructed by a noisy AC unit.

There was no hot water in our room. Hotel tried to fix but did not stay hot. Water only got a little above cold - not even to warm. Everything else was good . . but no hot water is a deal breaker.

10-20 minute wait for hot water, scuff marks on walls, damaged drywall, poor interior paint job, shoddy workmanship overall

The Gatsby is in a GREAT location...it was super convenient for what we wanted to do, and the price was nice. The staff was very pleasant and helpful (they brought us a blow dryer to use!). Our room was clean but small, and it was located in the basement. The windows were tiny, which was just as well because we were below the level of the sidewalk. There was a bit of street and sidewalk noise, but nothing terrible.

Expensive for the what it is. WiFi slow and intermittent. Noisy in terms of the outside but it was also possible to hear the other doors opening and closing very loudly. And for some reason they had me as a no show, so other passenger entered my room while I was there. Having stayed in other hotels in Manhattan, I wouldn’t return.

The last day of the stay they got the cable connection to work, but there weren't any stations available that were available to watch a show or movie. The channels that were available were all advertising or promotional channels. I go to sleep with the tv on, so this was an important part of booking a room. I asked the new night guy about it and he had no idea about the tv having an issue. Just seemed like communication wasn't great between staff or managers, however, very friendly to me and trying to get it fixed each time. They just never got it fixed for me to watch a movie or show. I also didn't get a partial refund like I was told either. The property also said it had windows, which I wanted, but the rooms window were completely blocked by an air conditioning unit and if there were a fire, there would be no way to get out due to this. The room I got was on the bottom floor (104) and that is a really place in the building to have a room. It's right by the street and you can hear everything happening, from people walking by to cars, etc. all hours of the day. Did not sleep super well. The room was also very small. It would be hard to have a full sized suitcase in the room to get stuff out of. Thankfully I only had a small carry on. 2 ft on side of bed.

It was a really poor experience for the price paid -- staff were super friendly, but upon check in I was assigned a room which someone else was inside. After this was resolved, there was no hot water -- and it took me 3 reception visits and 90 minutes of wasted time to get it working -- I was told the pump doesn't work well. The same happened in the morning, so I was late for my meeting. Wifi was also disappointing for a central NYC hotel, getting average 1mb -- I could barely watch YouTube buffer free. Floors were desperately in need of a deep clean, my feet were black - so many random hairs, nail clippings and dirt from previous guests. If the rate had been 25-30% lower, I would have expected some more of these challenges -- but at this rate it's not acceptable.

It’s just REALLY loud the walls are thin you can literally hear the entire city and hotel complex combined people were fornicating which I have no problem with except for the fact that I could hear them very loudly

We had a three nights stay at the Gatsby Hotel. It was extremely clean and conveniently located. Staff were friendly and responsive. The room had two double beds. It was a tight fit for the four of us, but I felt the hotel made the most of the space available. There was a fair amount of street noise, but it is New York City after all.

Good place to just sleep the night. Close to train, and a great taco truck. Water pressure was non existent but you can still get a quick shower in. Would stay here again for a quick trip to the city. Good for solo traveler or a couple, small rooms.

I have stayed at the Gatsby many times due to its convenience for my visits. I really like the place. My TV did not work, but I didn't even address the issue as I did not go to NYC to watch TV. The Gatsby is a good deal for the cost.

Staff was friendly. However, I returned to my room after being gone all day and my door was left open by housekeeping. My telephone and television were not working properly. I let the front desk know and nothing was done about it I still hadn't been contacted by a manager. Disappointing.

This place is terrible. It reminds me if a seedy notell motel. Front door is locked after hours and you have to be buzzed in. After check in- I was given my card and was told that my room is level c. This was the cellar. And it was a dump. No remotes, bed looked dirty. Absolutely not. I went back up and asked for another room. Nothing available. I told them to cancel the reservation. The problem with most 3rd party vendors is that nothing is handled with any sense of urgency. I am waiting for a refund because I didn’t say.

The hotel was overbooked and we waited 45 minutes to check in. The gentleman at the front desk did not have access to properly manage bookings. He tried his best but management needs a better way of checking in guests. For 45 minutes we believed we would not have a room.

Terrible stay as I left my windbreaker in the closet there but when call if they have it, they said no. I am very sure one of the cleaning ladies took it. It is not a fancy one but the fact that one would still take stuff from the customer is unacceptable. I will never stay there again!

We were pleasantly surprised that our room was quiet, even though it was in a busy neighborhood. Very close to Whole Foods and Russ and Daughters. Will stay here again when I return to NY.

We had a great stay. The property is clean and beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. A beverage room has coffee, tea and a microwave. Walking distance to so many areas, Chinatown, Little Italy and so much more. Lots of good shopping and eating all around. Whole Foods is a 3 min walk, very convenient. Not a place for you if you want quiet, a lot of noisy traffic, but it dies down by midnight. Complimentary earplugs provided! It was a fabulous stay.
