Truly a five-star resort! Our room was amazing—always clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. We loved the upgrade that put us just 100 yards from the beach and pool. The secluded outdoor hot tub and shower, connected to the indoor shower, were incredible and something we used every single day. We thought we would use the upstairs sitting area and private pool more, but since we were so close to the beach, we ended up spending most of our time there instead. The villa is about 0.9 miles from the main hotel, but it’s easy to get around using the bikes provided with the villa or by taking the shuttle. What a place! We typically stay at Fairmont hotels, but having a private villa instead of just a beautiful hotel room is something that would definitely bring us back again. The staff were all so kind, helpful and spoke English well. Banyan Tree truly has a warm and friendly team. The only thing to keep in mind is that food and drinks are expensive onsite. If you want a good, inexpensive meal, you’ll need to drive about 25 minutes into town. Just be prepared to spend as much—or even more—on food and drinks as you would at a five-star resort in Hawaii.

The property, services and staff was excellent. we felt quite safe in myakoba. The spa was amazing. The food at saffron did not disappoint.The only issue was the mosquitoes at dawn and dusk. Our concierge, Juan was particularly attentive, and we felt his absence when he went on vacation.

My new goal is to visit all banyan trees, but the Mayakoba branch is spectacular. The lobby is straight out of a movie and the staff are super friendly and attentive. The rooms were clean and when he a small ant problem, the room service cleared them all out withtin the hour. The restaurants and the boat tours were all fantastic. The private pools are heated and honestly made our trip even more enjoyable as we were able to swim anytime without needing the sun to keep us warm. The only thing that was not up to par and im really nitpicking here is that the private pools in the villa could use more upkeep as the weeds are growing between the tiles. Amazing property, and the enclosed gated area is open to all guests to explore

Absolutely the best property I've stayed at. The grounds are unique, beautiful, serene, yet wild with nature. The décor is wonderful, every nook and cranny is tasteful and special. The lobby and all restaurants are gorgeous, outdoor spaces. The entire complex is walkable or bike-able. The beach is quite nice. Each individual casita is perfect, completely private, and immaculately maintained.

Property was unique, however restaurant food wasn’t great. Breakfast was less than 3 star quality and very over priced. Customer service was terrible and maintenance in the villas was horrendous. Our showers and bathrooms upstairs and downstairs all stopped working and there were major leaks throughout the villas. Housekeeping would see it as well. The manger’s didn’t say anything to us until we complained finally. The manager offered a room to shower and use bathroom in that was also not suitable but we got to at least shower and brush our teeth. We had 3 young children with us as well. We would never recommend or stay here again. We spent a total of 20k from bill to the food and drink costs for only 4 days. Only for them to accommodate one night free and breakfast.

The hotel was in construction and we were not told about this when we booked it. It was inconvenient since there were workers all around the property, one day we even had walk around toilets that were on the side of the road from the renovation of other villas. The food was VERY expensive and I do not believe it was good enough for the price... I mean, there was not one single meal that was under 100 dollars and the value was no 100 dollars. The restaurant that was supposed to be wonderful - Zafron - served us squid that was gummy and they did not even have the lychee ice cream. Honestly, the food was a let down. The last night we went to Casa de Lago in the Rosewood Hotel next door... wow. There was no restaurant in the entire Banyan hotel that was wow, I feel they need to work on their food and their restaurants, all areas of the hotel feel like they are hallways to another area, and restaurants have no personality. Also, we went to the pool, and for instance, there were glasses left on the side of the pool that were not picked up by the waiters. The service of the people of the front desk was very good, and overall all workers were kind and very helpful. Our villa smelled like sewage. There was a problem with the bathroom and it smelled like sewage all the time we stayed there. That was a complete let down. They tried masking it with other smells, but it was very disappointing. If you want to stay at Mayakoba, I would recommend you go to Rosewood instead.

Deferred maintenance. Pool lights wiring very visible in the pool. Villas seemed dated and deferred maintenance. Bike paths were narrow and dangerous to share with speeding golf carts with staff members. And unknown hidden tax per person per room for eco tax.

This is my 2nd time staying at the Banyan Tree and it was excellent. The service was superb as the staff go out of their way to make sure you are happy and satisfied. Additionally, the renovation down at the Sands was excellent. The only minor item I’d like to see corrected is the lack of towels provided in the bathroom. Please provide more. Additionally, the bathroom soap and body gel for the shower is terrible and doesn’t lather. However, everything else was perfect and these small nits don’t take away from the overall wonderful experience.

This was the most beautiful property I’ve ever stayed at. The villas were beautiful with a private pool, cabanas, & outdoor bath. We loved having our bikes right outside our villa to bike to the beach. The food and service was incredible.

My favorite thing, aside from how beautiful the property is, is the absolute KINDEST staff I’ve ever experienced. They were all so genuine, helpful and sweet. They give you undivided attention with every conversation and make sure you are as comfortable as possible. The staff here is truly incredible.

Igor and Rafael and the entire Banyan Tree staff went out of their way to make sure we had a great trip despite some unforeseen issues with the renovations of our room. The management went above and beyond to save our stay and keep us and our entire group together even though some of us had to be relocated. Igor could give a masterclass in great hospitality. Note for anyone considering staying here- it was challenging to get in touch with the hotel until we got onsite. It’s a pretty massive property and not walkable. 10 minute Golf carts ride and 20 minute bike rides are the only way to get around from rooms to restaurants to beach. Thank you to the Banyan Tree staff.

This was our 2nd stay at the Banyan tree. We love the location and hotel. Service however is not good unless you complain. The service at the restaurants, especially at the beach restaurant, is lacking and food takes forever to receive. Be sure to pick a package that includes breakfast as it is a fortune otherwise.

Excellent hotel. It is the best resort we have ever visited. The only downside was that the communication between the contact person or concierge and the restaurant was not good enough. We had to confirm 5 times regarding one easy thing, and the restaurant still did not receive what we ordered. However, we would still want to come back soon.

Also, we went to the pool, and for instance, there were glasses left on the side of the pool that were not picked up by the waiters. The service of the people of the front desk was very good, and overall all workers were kind and very helpful. Our villa smelled like sewage. There was a problem with the bathroom and it smelled like sewage all the time we stayed there. That was a complete let down. They tried masking it with other smells, but it was very disappointing. If you want to stay at Mayakoba, I would recommend you go to Rosewood instead.

The property, services and staff was excellent. we felt quite safe in myakoba. The spa was amazing. The food at saffron did not disappoint.The only issue was the mosquitoes at dawn and dusk. Our concierge, Juan was particularly attentive, and we felt his absence when he went on vacation.

We have stayed at this property at least 6 times. The first time in around 2016 was incredible. However, the service and food just keep getting worse. The best food is at the beach. The remainder of the food is extremely over priced with little variety and when it does arrive it is not good. We paid close to $100 for a seafood pasta that was terrible to say the least. The bikes are scarce to find and are not in good or safe condition and the side walks need repair as they make bike riding unsafe. I had an accident on a bike at the hotel, broke my nose and wrist. It took forever to get assistance. The guest relations did then move us to a larger room for the rest of the trip so our adult children could visit with us in comfort so that was helpful. We love the location of this hotel but not sure if we would go back again due to complete lack of service and terrible expensive food.

This was our 2nd stay at the Banyan tree. We love the location and hotel. Service however is not good unless you complain. The service at the restaurants, especially at the beach restaurant, is lacking and food takes forever to receive. Be sure to pick a package that includes breakfast as it is a fortune otherwise.

Amazing property , beautiful surroundings and attentive staff. This resort feels very quiet and remote - perfect for a relaxing vacation. Food is absolutely amazing - .especially Saffron. Highly recommend
