Palmers Lodge Swiss Cottage

A warm cottage-atmosphere, just a quick walk from the metro. Good location. I liked the bar on the hostel, a bit of a brown pub with other social guests.

The place is pretty tidy and neat. Wish the hostel would clean the toilet more often. I know it's not their fault but sometimes it's just too nasty due to the carelessness of other people. The whole experience was better than what I expected. You've got the laundry room with iron and iron table. Hair dryer with mirrors. Sufficient lockers for your possessions. A self-serve kitchen small yet efficient I mean I literally saw a fellow cooking a steak. A pretty decent dining room. The only downside is when you sleep with a bunch of strangers. A good quality of sleep is the least you could get. But again this has nothing to do with the hostel and in return you might meet your new friends too. The staff are pretty helpful and nice. I think staying for 14 nights pretty much explains everything.

Staff was always attentive and ready to help. The hostel was always being cleaned and maintained. I felt safe and cared for. Only caveat is the bar and restaurant on location was a lot more limited then I expected. But they are plenty of options close by and a guest kitchen mitigate this very minor issue.

I really loved this spot, I had a single room so I can't comment on the common sleeping areas. It was overall clean and welcoming. They had great common spaces to sit and relax. The only mini flaw is that the kitchen is really small and when the hostel is full, you may be waiting a while to use it, but at least there is a kitchen!! I would stay here again.

House keeping staff are attentative and detauled when cleaning rooms. Has curtain on bunk beds. The pantry is very small and unable to cater more than 1 person if they are cooking. Fridge is extremely packed and food often get stolen even with name/bed number on. Has lift. Safe and quiet area

We loved our stay at Palmers Lodge in our ensuite bunk bed room. The building is amazing, the staff were friendly, our bunk beds were super comfortable, our belongings were safe in our room, we were close to the tube. Towels and sheets and tea/coffee makings were provided.The bar/restaurant downstairs was super handy , the lounge areas were pleasant and comfortable. We were able to store our luggage after checking out for a small fee.

a very good welcome from the staff when i needed accommodation with car parking whilst my husband was in hospital. excellent breakfast. impeccable room/bedsheets and showers/wc. very good transport links to all the major sites in london. nice safe area.

Nice place located within walking distance of the train. Kitchen is small and not meant for more than 2 people. Communal fridge is for sharing and unfortunately, someone swiped my Tesco prepared sandwich the morning I left.

I stayed in a 12-person room, which shared a communal bathroom with the whole floor. The bathroom trashcans were always overflowing, and there were cobwebs near the sinks. The showers were not individual stalls, and the drains were a little bit clogged, so there was always a growing puddle of water on the shower floors if more than one person was showering at once/consecutively. - The beds in the 12-person rooms are bunked three beds high. I was in the top bunk; and when you sit up in bed, you can easily see into other people's bunks because the privacy curtains do not reach to the ceilings, just to the top of the bed post. That extra privacy is an amenity all 8 of the lower bunks get to benefit from, which is disappointing since being so close to the ceiling means I was also exposed to the dust and bugs that congregate up there. The bed itself was clean, but the walls and ceilings were not. I was so concerned about it that I slept with a mask on every night. I understand that staying at a hostel means I am not paying for hotel-level services, but surely the standards can be higher than this. If I return to London, and if I stay at Palmers Lodge, I will not be staying in a communal room again. I will end my review with a positive impression of the staff. The maintenance person was very helpful and willing to lend me his tools to fix the broken zipper on my bookbag.

I booked an all female 8 bed room, and had I known it would be in basement, which was by far the least updated and most dirty of the floors, I would have booked at another location! The bathrooms were filthy, and the doors were so heavy, you heard everyones coming and goings throughout the night- and with a pub on the basement level, that was frequent! Overall this was not an enjoyable stay, and I feel completely bamboozled having been placed in the basement, which isn't clear in the pictures and I will note that the pictures that are on the listing page for the property of the basement rooms look SIGNIFICANTLY better than the room I was actually placed into. The only reason this isn't a one star rating is because the location was good being close to two tube stations, but otherwise absolutely dreadful and I would NOT recommend!

Our room smelled like urine. Not recent but ‘soaked’ into the floor boards. There was insufficient lighting in the room. The place will do for a night but not longer

Location is close to Tube and buses, easy walks. All staff was friendly and helpful. That said the doors are all very substantial and you hear people opening and closing doors at all hours. Overall A- and I would definitely stay here again.

I kept getting insect bites during my 4 night stay at this hostel. I complained to the reception and they had cleaners cleaned the area and changed the sheets.. unfortunately, I still kept getting insect bites.. I am hoping there is no infestation.. also slightly dusty and some of the power plugs/ electrical outlets don’t work.. I have to use someone else’s outlet to charge my phone.

Great building, beds are super clea, always. Sheets always smell fresh, despite the fact that the turnover of traffic is huge. Never experienced this anywhere else.

Really nice experience! Would recommend. Everything in good shape, 3min to Metro and bus Stations. Just one bad thing: The shared room doors are way too loud. Everybody wakes up from one door closing or opening. Would be nice to fix that.

Everything was just great - clean, well organized, just as needed. Excellent value for the money. Just a brief note - it would be very practical to have a small shelf next to your bed to put e.g. your phone or your glasses.

Very safe and clean experience- friendly welcome for reception desk every time I passed. Private curtains around bed plus huge storage drawer underneath that held my entire rucksack! Showers clean, hot and powerful. Lovely breakfast with fresh pastries and loads more choice in pleasant area. Recycling points everywhere. Lots of space in room. Women only room plus next door toilets/showers. Lovely hostel, the best I've stayed in!

No major issues, staff were friendly and helpful but I was there in February and the rooms were sweltering. The heat wouldn’t turn off? Aside from that, no issues.

This property is is well situated to both the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines, and it has great overground connections. It bills itself as both a hostel and boutique hotel, which leads to confusion as the online FAQ are about the hostel, while the private rooms appear to have different, unwritten rules, but sometimes have the same rules? For our private room, we were informed we would have to rent towels, then that towels were included. We were never told we couldn't eat or drink in the room, and there was a coffee/tea station in-room, but were stopped from bringing food and drink in as it was against the rules. So, there were some contradictions that hampered the ease of our stay. Also good to know is that they don't allow check-in before 2PM even if the room is ready, making for a long queue at exactly 2PM. We found this out after a different staff member had said we could check-in, and another person was checking-in directly in-front of us at 12:45. But we weren't permitted to check-in. So. There are some communication challenges at this establishment. The room was clean and comfortable though, and it was conveniently located.

Really great staff. Very helpful when one of us got sick and had to get to the hospital.

The staff that I originally interacted with was friendly but there were a couple staff members who seemed like they could care less when approached. The rooms were clean, but the showers were lackluster and right fitting. Having to use your key card everytime to access the nearest bathroom was a pain.

We were made to feel very welcome on arrival. The room was clean and met our needs. However, the hostel was very hot leading to us leaving the window open which lead to it being very noisy and impacted on our sleep. Great location for exploring London just a 5 min walk for Swiss Cottage tube station. Being able to leave our overnight bag in the lockers was also really good and really reasonably priced. I would use it again if we needed somewhere for one night.

The property is well maintained and clean, good value for a temporary stay. The staff is helpful. However, the breakfast is not good. I will recommend buying groceries outside.
