Royal Hideaway Playacar All-Inclusive Adults Only Resort

The grounds are beautiful, our room was clean and spacious. Couldn’t get the shower to work consistently- temperature kept varying between extremely hot and cold, despite asking management to fix it twice. Food and service at Italian restaurant was excellent. Had a disappointing encounter with one member of staff in the restaurant at the beach ( which served breakfast and lunch) who was determined not to give me two spoons one day when I had ordered uber eats and wanted to eat in our room. Two spoons and he would not give them to me . After about an hour and having to go to the Mai desk, I got the two spoons for our now cold food. There is a bar there open most of the time called Allegria which has about as much atmosphere as the moon. They do afternoon tea in the main building which is nice. There are about 3 or 4 pools, 3 of which look like they have a hot pool, don’t be fooled, they’re not. The pools, however, are nice.

Nice clean property, good food, excellent staff. Lots to keep you busy if you wanted. 2 minor problems. Getting any restaurant information ahead of time was really hard. Should have some menus on website since you have to reserve restaurants. Chair saving at pool is out of control. Have to be up at 6:00 to get any chairs.

Don't waste your money on the Relax Pool rooms. Seems like anyone can use them regardless of what room you are in. Resort lacks evening entertainment. Otherwise a very nice place and great beach!

The atmosphere created by the friendly staff was great! The food and drinks were excellent. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We will definitely be back. It was much better than anticipated. The only drawbacks were no hot tubs and no on-site water sports.

The grounds were absolutely beautiful with wonderful access to a clean beach and the pools were great! Staff was excellent. Food was good! Rooms were a little too dark for my liking. Needed more light.

Very…VERY quiet. Not a lot of activities so if you’re looking for a lot to do…not for you. The staff is very nice and the resort is about 50’ from the water so great scenery. Make sure you reserve a lounge chair by 7am or it’s the beach only until the next day! Book all your dinners the minute you check in….it’s by reservations only and first come first serve (with a dress code- collar shirts, closed shoe). Enjoy!

It was a nice resort…. No real faults…it would be nice if you could police the reserving of the pool loungers … they were all taken by 7:30 am 7 of the 9 days we stayed

Clean friendly, food was good. Only negative was not enough pool lounge chairs to accommodate the guests. To get lounge chair by the pool you had to get up at 5:30am. Would go back again.

The Royal Hideaway was an absolutely wonderful and relaxing place to stay. From the moment we arrived, everything felt serene and luxurious. The beach is stunning—clean, peaceful, and perfect for unwinding. The pool area is equally impressive, with crystal-clear water and plenty of space to lounge and soak up the sun. The atmosphere throughout the resort is calm and inviting, making it the ideal escape from everyday stress. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, clean rooms. Smaller resort with not a lot of night life. The night shows were lacking. The relax pools were nice but the pictures are deceiving. Everyone can use them, they are not right outside your rooms and the hot tubs have been cold for years. Food was mediocre, typical resort food. There is no buffet at night. You need a reservation to eat at night or room service is your only option. We had a great time but not a resort we would book again.

We had a wonderful stay at the Royal Hideaway. The a/c in our Sunset room was not working correctly on our first night. Someone did come to fix it and it was slightly better the second night, but the room was still warm. We advised our concierge, Suncil, who upgraded us to a suite for the balance of our week. This was the only problem we had, but it was quickly rectified. Both rooms were extremely clean and this is possibly the cleanest resort we have ever stayed at, out of the 15 all inclusive trips we have made to the Caribbean. The restaurants were all delicious, with Azia and The Grill being our favorites for dinner. Lunch at The Deck was great every day with numerous buffet or menu selections. The bars were all excellent with almost every top brand liquor being available. Wish we remembered the bartenders names at Bar Allegra, but they were great. We will definitely put Royal Hideaway on our list for return visits. Thanks for a great week!

The people are so friendly. The hotel room is very clean. The beds are so comfortable. You don't wanna leave. The beaches are beautiful and so is the view from the hotel and it's close to everything fifth Avenue.

This is our second time staying at this hotel. Last year was better. I don’t know if last year we got a renovated room but in general the condition of the room wasn’t as good as last time. The tub was stain and old. I noticed a mold odor in the bed I thought it was the linens so i have them change them and still. I am not sure if itl was the mattress or perhaps the pillows. Some of the tiles on the hot tub by the pool were missing, the grout was moldy. We dine at the Mediterranean and the Azia restaurants. The service at the Azia was not very efficient. It took us two hours to dine in. Morning buffet is ok although I wish it had more options. Beach eas great little sea weed. Drinks at the pool ok, food at the pool average. Not as impressive as last year. Disappointed

The grounds, pools, staff and food/restaurants were all great! We enjoyed our stay throughout the day and received excellent customer service. The rooms are badly in need of an upgrade. There was visible mold spotted in the bathroom, the sub/shower was old and almost unusable. In addition, the room had an overall "musty" smell (worse then would be expected for the region). Finally, the A/C units did not work properly and was quite loud.

The property and the rooms were beautiful and well maintained. We loved our view from the balcony. The beach is beautiful and has been improved since last year with many yards of added sand. We enjoyed each of the restaurants and bars each night. The food choices and meals were excellent! We enjoyed the kind and helpful staff. This is our second time staying here and we will definitely return again. We feel very welcome and safe at this resort.

Loved our stay at the Royal Hideaway Playacar! They don't miss a single detail to ensure wonderful experience The staff was very nice and they worked hard to maintain the grounds, pools, etc.

I want to start with we've visited this property on many occasions and really used to love it. Last time we were there was the summer of 24 and it seemed like Barcelo had been making a bunch of changes enough for the better. Cabanas used to be free now they charge for those. They seem to do work on the property all the time especially during prime time winter break 2024 the week we were there December 21st through the 28th. There was a lot of Maintenance being done on the building. One of the rivers they have there was completely drained and was being repainted that smelled like oil paint for days. Maintenance all around the property that made you feel that this wasn't a luxury property that we spent a lot of money on and wanted to try to relax. We heard some pounding and other Construction noises. The restaurants Spices that was adjacent to the main pool was closed for the first 3 days while we were there and we had to go up to the main building and have breakfast over there then go back to the pool. The staff at restaurants don't seem to listen very well, you order one thing and they bring you whatever they want. Wait staff at Spices for breakfast literally took 1.5 hours for breakfast and the place was basically empty. The hosts at Spices seem to want to seat you at the worst table possible and don't try to make you feel like you're a special client ever. Always seem to focus on themselves and being lazy versus trying to really shine. Not sure we're going back ever again.

The property is old, It is extremely necessary to fix some things, especially the bathrooms. Defective shower. The pools need more love and staff to take care of them. Only in one could the attention be seen.

The property was beautiful and it was pleasing to the eyes. I knew there was a problem with the A/C before we got there because it was set to 13C, but it was 23C in the room… the lowest the room temp got to the entire time was 22.5C, and it was running the entire time. While the beds felt great, it was uncomfortable sleeping at such high temps. Our shower was also difficult to control, as it was either all cold or scalding water… there was no in-between. The food, while there were plenty of options, was less than desirable. This was one of our first vacations where we both lost weight. We found dishes we could eat, but had a tough time as we didn’t want to eat the same thing every meal… breakfast was probably the best thing there. Our concierge Ricky was awesome. He was kind and really seemed to know how to help us with anything we needed, although I will admit that I didn’t mention the A/C until the final full day we were there, after asking another guest about their A/C experience. We make an intentional effort to not be a nagging couple. We agreed that cruises will be our vacation of choice after this experience, even though we did enjoy spending our anniversary together.

Second time staying at this resort. First time was about 20 years ago. Still a beautiful property with great restaurant options. Food was very good. Great options at the grill for breakfast and lunch. Property is well maintained. Utilized the spa. Excellent service. Rooms can use an update. Particularly with the plumbing and air conditioning. Room was quite warm.

The resort is very clean and staff very attentive. Palazzo had the best food of all of the restaurants. If you want a chair by the pool you’ll need to get up by 7am to fight for one though. They sit all day with towels on them. Would definitely return, however I’d ask for a first floor room. We were on the third floor which equates to four flights of stairs and there are no elevators available.

Located in the beautiful Playacar area, the beach is amazing. The entire staff is awesome. The food options are pretty good. The resort is a little dated, but still very nice and you can appreciate the elegant touches. The two main pools are small, but not crowded, and makes it easy to meet new people at the pool. However, due to their size, the water gets very warm in the pools. The multiple relaxation pools around the property are a nice option to cool off since they are shaded. There is limited nightly entertainment or bar options. If you are looking for the typical party type resort with late night activity, this isn’t the place, but if you’re looking for a quiet relaxing vacation, this is a great place to try.

We wanted to love this property. The service was incredible, the food was impeccable, and it was incredibly clean. However, the AC was out in the entire resort. Our room would not go lower than 81 degrees. We struggled to eat our delicious meals in restaurants that were “formal” dress code because we were sweating so badly. Our concierge worked so hard to make our stay better, he found a room for us that got down to 75 degrees. The shows were so entertaining, but it was difficult to stay in the theater for an hour and sweat. I would love to give this resort another shot. It was lovely and the staff was truly the best of any resort we’ve ever visited. But I’d call to ensure the AC is fixed before we booked again.

It is an amazing resort, food was delicious, only issues was there wasn’t a lot of shade by the big pools and if ur in buildings 21 or 22 you are kept up till at least 11pm due to the Allegro resort next door playing loud music every night, resort cannot do anything about it

This is a lovely property. But noisy with the doors of each room slamming and echoing within the building at all hours of the night. Also, the AC unit inside the room didn’t cool the space.

The good first, staff was friendly and attentive. Food was delicious, specially La Ventana Restaurante. Hotel is beautiful, pools were cleaned daily, seaweed was also removed frequently to keep the beach area impeccable and smell free. Now the down side… Room service was extremely slow, several times me requested ice, this took them at least 1/2 an hour each time. Same thing with beverages (beer nothing fancy). In addition the hotel is only equipped with an umbrella per room, or that is what we were told. When we are under tropical storm conditions that is unacceptable. It was a monsoon! It made it extremely difficult to make it to the restaurants without getting soaked. This is the first hotel that didn’t provide us with umbrellas for both of us. In addition the hotel couldn’t break a bill ever! So in some occasions the staff was affected because we couldn’t break a bill to tip them. This made it hard and kind of embarrassing for us. The hotel is located in Playacar which is a very exclusive area, but if you wanted to go into 5th street (where the action is) you will definitely had to take a cab. I must say that finding a cab was easily managed by the hotel staff. Hope this helps

Loved our stay. We were here for 7 nights and it still wasn't enough to enjoy everything the property had to offer. ALL the staff was amazing. Everyone was so incredibly helpful and kind. We traveled with my 85 year old grandma and they accommodated switching our room part way through our stay since the stairs became hard for her to manage. All the restaurants had such great options for a vegetarian like me! Can't speak highly enough of how wonderful this hotel is.

We loved how quiet the resort was and enjoyed being around only adults, however we did not enjoy the food and didn't appreciate the house cleaner stealing my husband's medicine. This was our second time at this resort and unfortunately we won't be returning.

2nd time staying here and it was amazing. A high end all inclusive. The food is fresh, delicious, and flavorful. Plenty of high end drink options as well. It's quiet. Not much of a night life, and if you're really looking to party, it may be too quiet for you. I enjoyed it, though. Also, there is a nice little shooping area that is walkable. Touristy, but nice to have something so close to the hotel. This hotel is 5 out of 5 stars if not for a couple minor complaints: The property is in need of maintenenace. The phone in my room did not work. They tried to fix it but unsuccessful. This was inconvenient when I wanted room service. Also, the check in process was painful. It took 90 minutes to get checked in. Also, the room fridge was barely cold. This was an issue as my wife has medication that must be kept cold. The hotel did address this for us, but I heard others complaining of their fridge temperatures as well. That said, I would rate 5 out of 5 stars if the phone worked. I'm definitely planning to return again.

Ive been to Playa Del Carmen over ten times and have stayed at seven different resorts. We stayed a total of 13 days and truly enjoyed our stay. I wanted to give a shout out to Carlos Quintal in the Grill restaurant. Carlos Quintal truly defined what customer service is all about. He was so attentive to our needs and also a true gentleman. Carlos, along with a great resort, is the reason we plan on returning. A+

Royal Hideaway is a beautiful property. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff is exceptional! Very little information is communicated at check-in regarding restaurant reservations and the availability of the amenities. Make your dinner reservations prior to your arrival. We were placed in 9pm time slots for dinner each night. The same thing with the Spa, very limited availability. Pool loungers are "saved" by 6am each morning. Again, the staff was EXCEPTIONAL!

DO NOT STAY HERE. And if you do, please keep a close eye on your belongings. We stayed for a week. After we checked out of the hotel and arrived home, someone from the hotel started using my boyfriend's debit card and stealing his money. And they are still doing it. We emailed the hotel and supposedly they are investigating. It's very disappointed that they don't have honest staff working here especially for the prices you pay. Another huge problem is that you have to make dinner reservations ahead of time, if not you are allowed to dine at their restaurants. The loungers at the pool are always taken by 8 am, I didn't realize this was a timeshare property so that explains why the hotel guests are treated like second class citizens. The doors slam every time someone next to your room leaves. This place is pretty however after the unfortunate incident of their employees stealing our money and the hotel not responding, I can't say anything good and don't recommend them. For the money they charge, you can find other places at cheaper rates. Very disappointing in the way they treat their hotel guests.

We really enjoyed the location, resort and staff here. The beach was beautiful, with great views and delicious food. The resort and local shops don’t like to offer change for bills you get from the ATM, so plan ahead and get smaller bills before going to Mexico if you can, otherwise you’re basically spending $25 minimum every time you pay cash. You can pay card for things but it vibes with a percentage markup.

Super spotless clean, very quiet, no parties (older age group), food was pretty good but chicken was terribly overdone at every restaurant but shrimp, fish and octopus were all good. The beach is wonderful with powder white sand and small waves. This location is somewhat sheltered from seaweed and they clean up the seaweed very fast. I recommend this place and it was an amazing value for us.

Royal Hideaway was an absolute gem. I’ve never felt safer in Mexico. The area was very secure and the property was pristine. We will for sure be visiting again!

The Royal Hideaway is an absolutely beautiful resort with an incredible beach for miles and turquoise waters! The food and staff is top notch. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure everything is perfect. It’s also close to downtown which is nice if you want to escape the quiet and go and experience the Fifth Ave life. Resort is quiet and peaceful. I love it and will definitely return soon.

The resort overall was nice. Few things to know before you go and a couple of tips. There are 5 restaurants to eat at, but 3 require men to wear pants and the other two allow shorts (not swimming shorts). Each building has a concierge and you must make reservations for dinner. We did that on the first day and it was really simple. Also ask the concierge what the nightly entertainment is for each night of your stay, if you are interested. The rooms do not get cold but they do get very cool. Make sure the door to bathroom is closed, close the curtains during the day and make sure the ceiling fan is turning the correct direction. The fridge was not getting cold either, if you leave the cabinet door open the fridge cools down quickly. If you want a spot at the pool you will need to be down there around 630 am unless you are a member or have a specific upgrade, then you can reserve them. We had the run of the beach chairs, we preferred the beach so it wasn’t a problem for our stay. Lastly, the service we received around the beach and pool from Eduardo was top notch!!!!!! This is a quiet resort. So if you are looking for relaxation, this is perfect spot.

Great place for couples, nice and quiet. Only 7 min ride to Playa del Carmen, where you can have some fun.

Great property, nicely setup and well taken care of. Common areas are fantastic, with touch of luxury and authenticity. Food is nothing special, average at best, but the restaurants setup is really nice. If you like activities, the staff is not that interested in summoning people in to participate, there is not an active engagement to get few people in to play volleyball or stretch. If you are there, you're there, if no one shows up they leave. Service is wonderful, rooms are great. Beach is super nice, but seaweed is unbearable, like in all areas of that coast. Water is brown. I am a beach person and dont like swimming pools, yet couldn't force myself to go into the water, it was that bad. Yet again, it is not a property issue, it is a regional issue at large. Outside areas are nice and safe to walk. There is a small shopping plaza right across and Playa Del Carmen is 25 minutes away walking. Cab is $10 each way. The whole area is safe and fun to walk around. The whole Playacar area is gated, and the hotel is double gated. We had a great time.

Loved the food quality, ocean view pool and the other quieter pools scattered throughout. My husband and I enjoyed the 1pm classes offered everyday. We went kayaking for free (had to figure that out on our own). A short 30 minute walk to 5th Ave and the public beach.

The air conditioner did not work well. The morning buffet was small. The restaurants were fantastic and the staff was excellent. They went out of their way to help. The shows were 30 minutes only. I was told by the reception that we do not receive anything from the spa. He gave me a coupon to buy jewelry.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful whenever we had questions. The concierges were very professional and helped book whatever we needed for our trip. We really liked how the property is separated into little villas and there's multiple relaxation pools. It makes it feel more peaceful! The drinks were pretty good and the breakfast buffet at the grill was delicious. The biggest con was the dinners. The food at every restaurant took a long time to come out and the quality was mid. We weren't expecting fine dining of course but they defintely can improve upon the quality. My fiance got steak at Spices and Azia and it was grey and chewy both times. We honestly think the steaks were microwaved. The wait time at Azia was also the worst by far. It took an hour to get two main courses so that was a bit unexpected. The best experience we had here was the Balinese bed on the sand. We got delicious food from a special pre-fixed menu, a bottle of sparkling wine, and an entire day on a comfy beach side bed! I definitely recommend it as a fun add on. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here!

Extremely clean rooms were always taken care of. at multiple restaurants some of them good some of them not so good. Spices the Mexican restaurant was decent, but the service was extremely slow The grill, the steakhouse the appetizers were good. The steak was horrible. They served a New York strip, which was overcooked hard to eat. The Italian was amazing. I have no complaints. The Mediterranean was amazing. I have no complaints. The Asian was amazing as well. Overall, for the price it was good.

I liked the size of the property and the amount of options for the size. Also liked that everything was a la carte. That being said I do think there is room for improvement in the quality of food.

Did not have buffet at night. You had to have reservations at specialty restaurants. It was nit easy to get reservations.

We had an absolutely wonderfl and relaxing stay at the Royal Hideaway. We enjoyed it so much we would love to go back to visit. Staff is amazing. Everyone was kind, helpful, and willing to help. This is truly a rare quality to find at resorts now a days. The room was well furnished and beds were so heavenly to sleep in. The food was hit and miss, but when it was a hit... ohh it was delicious.The buffet was always a good bet. The beach was incredible. Shallow water for days. The beach service was top notch and chairs were always available. We saw at least 2 beach service people walkjng around taking drink and food orders from 9 am till 5 pm. They were also quick to return with your items. This is the best beach service I have seen. It even tops the butlers I have had at numerous Sandals resorts. The infrastructure is beautiful but shows wear and tear. They paint over areas that can really use repair, but thus qould be the only area of improvement. But everything else was so wonderful that any of this was almost an afterthought. Guests tend to be couples and older. Not a party ir loud resort. This resort is all about relaxation. Check in and out was fast and efficient. We cant wait to return!
