I really enjoyed my stay. The staff were very nice, and the breakfast included was delicious. The only downside was the limited parking. There were only a few designated spaces, and they were occupied during my visit. I had to park on the roadside until 10:40 AM, but since the parking limit was until 10:00 AM, I ended up getting a parking ticket.

Neat and clean, with a TV, kettle, coffee maker and a hair dryer available in the room. Staff is friendly. Parking could be an issue as there are limited spaces and you cannot park on the road for more than an hour, during the day.

Beautiful property and garden with a river and shepherds hut at the bottom. Delicious breakfasts with good choices. Close to Grasmere for walking. Opposite a bus stop but parking space was limited. Antique furniture was attractive but, in the bedroom, the sconce lights were impossible for reading and the wardrobe space was minimal and had no lighting. Wi-fi in the village was intermittent. Staff were all very helpful.

A glorified guest house! I didn’t quite know what to make of it, in all honesty …. It’s not a hotel in the usual sense of the word. It literally has a room with a desk, which I guess you could call a reception. A small room with a couple of settees, that you walk through to get to a conservatory where breakfast is served. That’s it! There’s no bar and no communal areas to sit and relax. There’s no housekeeping service (unless you ask), which I thought was strange, but after a while I kind of liked the fact that staff aren’t in and out of your room. There’s absolutely no atmosphere, we had the smallest TV on the wall (they need upgrading), the room was tired, warn in parts and very dark. Only 7 parking spaces, at the front! However, the staff were hard working and pleasant, the breakfast was wonderful (compliments to the chef), the shower was powerful with loads of hot water, our room was quiet, it was in a good position for the centre of Grasmere, it was the cheapest hotel in Grasmere and it was clean. Would I stay again? I think I would, yes.

Had a wonderful couple of nights in the Stargazing room. The car park is small, but a decent one is just round the corner (£9 for a day, so spent £18 on top of the cost of the hotel) The breakfasts were great, with a good selection of cooked food. The facilities were nice, the bath water runs very hot, and is very difficult to cool. I spent more time getting the water right than I did in the bath. On this topic, the toiletries provided weren’t the best, so used my own. The teas and coffees on offer in the room are standard fare, not quite what the price of the room would usually offer. Overall, I had a lovely time in this hotel and in Grasmere, I would absolutely stay here again. The staff were warm and friendly at all times and the hotel is very conveniently located if coming for a night or two.

The Victorian was advertised as an hotel but when we arrived I asked about the bar only to be told the bar was closed as they were down grading to a B&B Had we known we would have chose another hotel for the facilitties . Our recent stay at The Victorian House was very good, room was nice, comfortable bed, great staff and service, great location in Grasmere and fantastic breakfasts. Our dog friendly room was in an outer annexe adjoining the garden on the ground floor, room was nice and clean although bathroom paint was peeling off all around the top of the walls above the shower and window, possibly could do with repainting with waterproof paint. Now our bugbear, the noise from people upstairs was unbearable being a light sleeper, you'd think they had a hot tub and liked moving furniture around all night, the walls are a bit thin so you do hear your neighbours next door. We managed to get a parking space for both nights too which was a bonus as in the lakes you can spend a fortune on car parking !! All in all a nice hotel with very pleasant and helpful staff, we enjoyed our stay overall.

A wonderful pet friendly hotel in the heart of Grasmere. It was decorated beautifully, and the room we had was spacious and clean. The breakfast was delicious, with a range of cooked options and a buffet style breakfast too (not to mention the dog got a sausage every morning!). Our only feedback would be that our room wasn’t cleaned during our stay, though it was only three nights. It would’ve been good to have the mugs and water jug refreshed, however I’m sure if we’d asked this would’ve happened, as the staff were friendly and happy to help. We would absolutely stay here again.

Very tastefully appointed hotel with friendly service. The bathroom, however, was a bit of a beast. I feel sorry for the hotel company which had obviously spent a great deal of money on the appointment of the bathroom. However, the shower was difficult to manage comprising as it did, an overhead douche and a spraying wand. The problem was that the water cut off was half way between the settings for both devices so if the lever was inadvertently pushed too far then you received a jet of cold water from the overhead douche. Also there was no grab handle on the wall of the shower. One could easily be fitted without disturbing the wall tiles. Also there was no rubber mat for insertion into the bath. My TV was in a state of disrepair and despite Mangement assurances that it would be put right, nothing was done about this.

Amazing hotel in Grasmere, ideally situated for walks and opposite the bus stop if you want to go to Ambleside, Windermere etc. The hotel is decorated very tastefully. The staff are so helpful and polite. Our bedroom was very comfortable and had amazing views. Loved the welcome gingerbread as you checked in. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed longer. Price is very reasonable. Lots of choice for breakfast

Really nice, friendly hotel. We did book the stargazy room which had great views. Only one issue and not the fault of the hotel but the large building opposite was so well lit it was pointless looking at the sky in the evening. Aside from that could not be happier and would love to stay again. Highly recommended and thanks for a lovely stay.

The hotel had a lovely atmosphere with well chosen antique furniture. Staff were both helpful, polite and efficient. Happy to help with a last minute change of booking and also room change to allow us a quieter room on our last night. Breakfast was very good with a great range of cereals and fruit. The homemade fruit yoghurt was a nice surprise Locally sourced food was evident in the cooked breakfast. This is a great hotel handily located close to restaurants and shops.

We had no hot water for the full duration of our 3 day stay. We reported it to staff on two occasions, nothing happened. We were offered another shower room which also had no hot water. No apology from staff or acknowledgment of the major failing. To add insult to injury the also tried to charge us twice for our dog. No apology that time either. Things happen and it’s the response of the hotel that tells you their quality. This response was poor, not interested and no acknowledgment of the impact on our break, which was a birthday break. Very poor customer service indeed. Avoid.

The hotel had a lovely atmosphere with well chosen antique furniture. Staff were both helpful, polite and efficient. Happy to help with a last minute change of booking and also room change to allow us a quieter room on our last night. Breakfast was very good with a great range of cereals and fruit. A wonderful pet friendly hotel in the heart of Grasmere. It was decorated beautifully, and the room we had was spacious and clean. The breakfast was delicious, with a range of cooked options and a buffet style breakfast too (not to mention the dog got a sausage every morning!). Our only feedback would be that our room wasn’t cleaned during our stay, though it was only three nights. It would’ve been good to have the mugs and water jug refreshed, however I’m sure if we’d asked this would’ve happened, as the staff were friendly and happy to help. We would absolutely stay here again.

Amazing hotel in Grasmere, ideally situated for walks and opposite the bus stop if you want to go to Ambleside, Windermere etc. The hotel is decorated very tastefully. The staff are so helpful and polite. Our bedroom was very comfortable and had amazing views. Loved the welcome gingerbread as you checked in. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed longer. Price is very reasonable. Lots of choice for breakfast

We booked this place due to the great rating on this site. Wonderful staff. Lovely location. Beautiful room. We booked the stargazer suite and even though the skies did not co-operate the view was still stunning. Breakfast was delicious. There is a Co-op shop 3 doors down and a great restaurant 2 doors down. Would happily stay again!

The he Victorian House was a delight to stay in, the staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were delicious and the rooms were lovely. The property is on the edge of grasmere and is very conveniently located near shops, the bus stop and cafes etc.

We loved the handy location, our really spacious room, fluffy thick towels, lovely decor, plenty of tea, coffee & milk. Felt sorry for the lady trying to take breakfast orders, tidy & serve on her own, as they were short-staffed so there was a bit of a wait. We'll definitely be booking again next time we go to Grasmere. Thanks for a nice stay.

What a lovely property to stay in. We spent 2 nights there in a cosy double. The room was a perfect size for a short stay with a nice modern bathroom and free toiletries. We found it easy to park too. Their carpark is at the front entrance and can fit 7 cars in comfortably. The breakfasts each morning were absolutely delicious with both continental and hot cooked offerings and excellent filter coffee. Each day there was chocolate cake on a glass domed plate - a nice touch for those who needed something sweet. The location is perfect for walking and the bus transport around the lakes is good. There are local restaurants and cafes which we found a little pricey and a co-op for picnics (closed for refurb when we were there so check before you visit). There's also gift shops and some hiking shops but again, be prepared for a price hike!

The car park is small, but a decent one is just round the corner (£9 for a day, so spent £18 on top of the cost of the hotel) The breakfasts were great, with a good selection of cooked food.
