Winchmore Hotel

Nicely located on prom, about 5 minutes walk from station. Friendly check-in staff. Single room adequate size, bit cramped in bathroom but manageable. Easy walking distance from pier & main shopping/eating places.

Cheap and tiny single room.

During an unusually difficult situation, part of the staff was excellent but other other part were horrible. The tiny bathroom got really steamy during a hot shower and the exhaust fan started electrically arcing inside. I could NOT turn the fan off. After 10 minutes of obvious internal arcing, the lights in the bathroom started to flicker. Room had gotten more steamer and called the front desk bc the breaker had not kicked the power off and the 220v voltage was obviously fluctuating radically. Front desk was very pleasant but couldn't do anything but notify the owner. Front desk offered to change rooms. Very dangerous situation!!! After 45 minutes the breaker finally kicked off the power in the bathroom. Because the breaker kicked off, I was ok to change rooms at about 2am. In the morning I was being blamed for almost "burning down the hotel!" This had nothing to do with the steam that was not being removed by the fan. Obviously, the fan motor and electrical breaker are in violation of the electrical code. The owner(s) should have used the situation to evaluate the defects and bring that room, and if necessary the hotel up to code. Motors have to be sealed from moisture and circuits breakers shut off power immediately!!! Otherwise everyone is at risk at that hotel, and the other hotels directly physically connected, are at risk of fire. Very unsafe and to blame the customer who is paying them money that can be used to help update their safety is just absurd!!!

The Winchmore is a lovely hotel which is an ideal break for a weekend. The rooms are clean. The staff are really friendly and very attentive. Parking is very convenient for a small daily charge. We had breakfast both days and fabulous meals in the evenings which are served 5:30 and 6:30. The meals had a variety of choice which you need to order before 3pm. The hotel has a lift which was ideal for my mum. We had a lovely time. Thankyou.
