Room was clean enough, I didn't see anything disgusting or any bugs, and the two-bunk arrangement gives a little more space and privacy than some more dense 4 or 6 bed hostels. However, there were some maintenance and general facility issues. For one, there seemed to be only one working outlet in the room, and the other occupant insisted on unplugging the air conditioner and sweltering all night so he could charge his headphones. That, combined with what appears to be some sort of amplified PA system to bring in noise from outside -- I swear, on the third floor, it HAD to be noisier than if I had just slept in a cardboard box outside -- made for a couple not-overly-restful nights. Nothing else special -- no amenities to speak of. There's one functional if dated and not overly clean bathroom per floor, and a fairly nasty looking refrigerator downstairs near the lobby. WiFi, that only works in the lobby. I've done a few hostels, and seen worse, but also seen much better. Considerable room for improvement here. Their main competitive points seem to be price and location, but for a quieter room with its own toilet I'll pay a few bucks extra and take the train to Queens.
