The Inn on Lake Superior

Always a perfect stay at the Inn! Love the rooftop hot tub, the indoor sauna and pool and hot tub, the smores on the lake outside is so good! And the walkout room on the lake side is amazing! Breakfast was decent.

We came to visit UMD and made an overnight out of it. This hotel is in a prime location. Beautiful views of the lake. Fun to stroll along the boardwalk even in 17 degrees, and to enjoy s'mores at the fire-pit. It was midweek, the hotel was quiet, which meant the pool, sauna, and hot tub were all ours.Our room was pool facing . The pool area was warm and comfortable. Lots of towels. The water was pleasant. We chose this hotel for the heated outdoor pool on the roof and it did not disappoint! it's a small pool and there isn't much of a view unfortunately, but the water was great and steamy and to be in a pool outdoors in winter weather was AMAZING! We went for a dip under the stars and also first thing in the morning. It was totally worth the 60 seconds of freezing while toweling off. We also really enjoyed the breakfast. It was hot and fresh with a ton of options. Cereal, waffles, eggs, potatoes, sausage. yogurt, fruit, coffee etc. The one staff member was busy keeping it stocked and clean. I'd definitely stay here again.

It is a beautiful and convenient place to stay while visiting Duluth!My only. Complaint is there were not enough towels on the rooftop pool.

The pool and hot tub were bigger than most hotels, being able to walk along the lake the great views was amazing. Would stay here again!

I love the location right next to Lake Superior and Canal Park. The heated rooftop pool was fun. Loved the smores and apple cider provided. Could use a bit of a facelift but the beds were quite comfy.

Great location. Dated facilities, indoor pool was empty and creepy…but I’m sure they’re working on it.

I had a room with a balcony, which had a phenomenal view and was a highlight of the room. The hotel was very clean, with the exception of these things in my room: the drapes had stains and food on them, the upholstered chairs had stains and food on and in them, and the top surface of the dresser had a sticky substance spilled all over it. Other than those issues I had a great stay and no other complaints about the property. The beds were clean and comfortable and the bathroom and shower were fantastic. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area.

There was black mold in the shower.

Our toilet was not clean!!! It smells like a urinal at a sports game it just had this very rancid urine smell like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. We took pictures of the filth and brought it to the attention of staff. They offered to clean it at 9:00 p.m. but my kids were sleeping and they already had an opportunity to clean it the correct way before we got there

Overall good experience. Headboards, toilet paper holders, heat vents were all very dusty. Everything else pretty clean. Staff were all very kind and helpful.

Our favorite place to stay in Duluth. Clean, friendly, great amenities and location.

My white socks were soooo dirty after walking on the room carpet for an hour. The room smelled musty. I went to the front desk to ask what they could do and they gave me some room spray to use. Went to the front desk on day 3 asking for room service. No one ever came. When I told the front desk the next day they handed me towels.

Clean, convenient, comfortable.

Location is good for being downtown and having access to the lake and shopping. Property was dirty as well as pool areas. Room was as though it had been quickly cleaned. Hallways needed vacuuming. No extra towels, toilet paper or Kleenex in room.

The outside area needs cleaning up! Cigarette butts laying around, chairs and tables dirty, bird poop on chairs and tables, not welcoming or pretty. Very unfortunate as the view is lovely. Our room was dark and dreary.

The hotel was very dated. The furniture was very worn. All the furniture was covered in dust. We put up with everything because the view was exceptional. Didn’t spend much time in the room. Sat on balcony.

Nice location in Canal Park. Good breakfast spread. Fun to have a rooftop pool that is heated to 103 that my kids could swim outside in the middle of winter, however, no towels up on the roof top pool is a problem. My biggest complaint was the thin walls. We had neighbors up until 1am and could hear them laughing and their conversations all night. Otherwise, the room was nice and roomy.

Needs better dusting and vacuuming, noticable layers of dust. The mirror looked wiped but not cleaned, was streaky. Theres no mattress protectors under the sheets. I discovered this when I found a pin beginning to poke through the sheets where my face had just been. The patio furniture has been replaced since our last stay and that was nice, however, the mattresses weren't very soft anymore and a bit lumpy in spots. The AC was mediocre for a weekend with heat warnings and temps in the 90s. The building itself felt like it could use more air flow and my rooms AC unit was on 63 and still didnt feel like it was "too cold". Check in staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Really nice shower facilities. The views are just as great as we remember but we did miss the live weekend music outside. Conveniently located but a bit overpriced for how outdated it's become.

Stayed for the weekend. Enjoyed the decor. Staff was friendly except for the security guard who insisted on shushing our laughing kids in the middle of the day - because halls have to be quiet all the time? Breakfast was so-so. Beds were definitely NOT as advertised. Old and most uncomfortable hotel beds ever.

We were looking for a room with a balcony/view of Lake Superior and got it. Small but had nice polywood chairs with small attached table between. Spent a good amount of time there reading, watching ships & boats on the lake, and watching people on the Lake Walk below. However, the rooms are very outdated and worn. The sofa had a slash across the back and was frayed everywhere. One mattress was definitely old and uncomfortable. The elevator made very loud bands and vibrations as it kicked in (there are 3 floors). The staff were friendly and good people.

The balcony we paid for was 2 feet wide and the roof top pool was no larger than a hot tub started and 3 ft deep and went to 3 ft and 6 in deep. Poor advertising.

I liked the room, it had an extra room for the couch and television. The balcony was also a lovely place to sit and watch the sun come up.

Everything was excellent! We stayed in a room with a patio on the lake. It was awesome to sit out there and enjoy the scenery.

I was traveling with my daughter & my elderly mother. We reserved 2 rooms, as my mom snores terribly. I spoke with a mgr a week prior to our arrival to insure we could get adjoining rooms, as again, my elderly mom. Upon arrival, the first thing I noticed walking into the lobby was the old & musty odor. Next, walking down the hall to our rooms, I noticed the wallpaper peeling at almost every seam. We walk into the first room, and I realized the staff person checking us in only gave us key cards for one of the rooms. No biggie, we\'ll go back and get the others shortly. Once inside the room, there were several issues. First, as SOON as we opened the door, the bed was RIGHT there. I\'m not exaggerating when I say the bed was not far away from the door hitting it. THAT was just odd. Next I noticed the bathroom was gross. Appeared unclean with it\'s dirty looking grout. Lastly, I noticed, NO adjoining door. Of course I marched my perplexed butt back to the front desk, and said that there must be a mistake and proceeded to let the gal know the room is in fact NOT adjoining. Mgr got involved who was VERY rude, stating oops, yea, those are not adjoining rooms. They did find a couple adjoining rooms they thought they could put us into but then realized one of them had not been cleaned and would not be cleaned that day. So we were back to our original rooms. We ended up deciding to find another hotel. Which we did, much cleaner and updated AND cheaper. I wouldn\'t recommend "The Inn"!

Great location right on the lake. Ground floor room had door directly out to private patio and lake walk. Friendly front desk staff with quick check-in and out. Will stay here again.

We have had wonderful stays here in the past. This time we had to wait half an hour past check-in time to get into our room. This is not good PR for The Inn. Also, there should be someone responsible for replenishing the breakfast items when they run out. On the plus side, our lakeside balcony room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, and we are thankful for that.

Our stay was very memorable: close to shopping; walkable to many community events; walkable to numerous restaurants. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. They gladly answered all of my questions. Breakfast was great as well.

The property is located directly on Lake Superior. The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The only problem was that both check in and check out was accomplished with one staff person. It is a very large and sold out facility. There were lines on both ends of our stay.

We have stayed here before and this place has gone down hill in quality and increased dramatically in price. Yep, nice view but beyond that it was terrible: Bed, about as uncomfortable as you can find. More like Motel 6 quality. Shower/Water, pressure was so bad it took me half hour to rinse off soap. Shower head was ridiculous. Breakfast Saturday. Meager. 2 very plain hot options and just about everything was out and not replenished when we ate at 8am. We waited but it never really was replenished. Quality of food was terrible. Breakfast Sunday. Same issues, except now EVERYTHING was OUT THE WHOLE TIME! No eggs, no meat, no fruit, no donuts, no waffle mix, juice was out, the only thing plentiful was cereal. Place looks run down. Patio furniture was nice but the area was dirty. Provided with a sheet and 1 blanket for the bed. Lots of pillows but small flat ones. Staff seemed nice but at this price point I should get more than just a nice view of the lake. Very disappointing. I know a lot of the increase cost was the spike due to covid/post covid and EVERYONE is charging more but more often then not, quality also has gone up. Not here. The only thing that went up was the price.

Upon check in, the hotel did not have a reservation for me. I had to call hotels.com, provide them with the hotel’s email, to get a room. I’ve never had this happen before using hotels.com. It took an extra 30-40 minutes to check in. Terrible experience.

Hotel front desk person was not there. Had to wait at check in and no one at check out. Not a good look for the hotel.

wonderful property and staff is so friendly and helpful

We had a great time, with a warm room, nice whirlpool tub, good shower and sauna. I also liked the breakfast. But the only major thing that bothered us was kids running around in the lobby after 10 pm, and neither the hotel staff nor the kids' parents were doing anything about it. This was extremely annoying. Also, I wish we had known in advance that you have to call to get a room with a whirlpool tub: they told us this only when we checked out.....they said it wasn't possible to do online (not sure why).

The location is great, close to downtown , restaurants and shops. Right on the shore of Lake Superior

Great location to see Canel Park. Leave your car and walk. Lake boardwalk right out our door.

We stay here alot, love seeing the lake and ships coming in. Can walk to dinners and night life.

Good place to stay for the Canal Park experience with plenty of things to do within walking distance and also restaurants within walking distance. Don’t rely on the Breakfast served at this hotel because it is less to be desired for but the Location of this hotel can’t be beat on top of it, it has roof top heated pool open year round which is exhilarating in the cold weather.

Beautiful winter getaway at the edge of Lake Superior. We chose a first floor room with access to the Lake, we woke up early to catch the sunrise over the lighthouse at the canal. We then walked the boardwalk down to the lift bridge, and caught a good cup of coffee at a local shop on the way back

Breakfast was mediocre. Eggs each day, sausages were more like pieces of kielbasa. Need some bacon or sausage links or patties. No peanut butter or jelly on our last day. Garbages outside never emptied in the 3 days we were there. For s’mores-at 8:30 people had to go and ask for more marshmallows, chocolate and crackers because the bowls were empty and there was only 8 people outside. Front desk staff friendly but never really saw any staff other than cleaners in the hall.

I thought that the hotel is just not what it used to be. The rooms seem a bit rundown and not even sure what they are doing with breakfast. The staff was nice about checking in was a bit busy but staff was very friendly. The biggest complaint is that the hotel is just not very nice anymore and the breakfast was very lousy.

They have only one person attending the buffet breakfast, he does a great job there but there is nobody to clean the tables so you always eat on a dirty and sticky table

This is our second time staying at the Inn and it has become our go to choice in Duluth! My kids love the indoor and outdoor pools, the s’mores every night and the hot delicious breakfast. We all love the spacious and quiet rooms! The staff is helpful and friendly and the location cannot be beat!

Overall great experience. One area of improvement is breakfast, it is not great! Oatmeal was basically water, powdered eggs were not good at all and options were especially limited/difficult for folks with food sensitivities such as dairy.
