Golden Sands Resort Motel

Decent little motel literally 50 feet from gorgeous okanagan lake beach. Our suite had an amazing lake biew as it was on the second floor facing the beach. Room was clean, had a full kitchenette. Mattress wasn’t the best but heard good reviews on the sofa bed. Definitely bring extra pillows unless you like to sleep on a single pancake pillow. I asked for extra and was told they weren’t available. The property is nice and well maintained with multiple BBQ’s available for use. Pool was decent but was unheated.

Great location and decent A/C is the only positive. The motel is falling apart. Pool is leaking into the parking lot. Mattress was very hard and old. Thin old bedding and crappy pillows. No towel rack or toilet paper holder in the bathroom due to being broken. Bathroom door barely closed. No ice dispenser available or beverage machine. Several broken appliances littered on the property. Front check-in office is hoarded with supplies, very uninviting. $230 for 1 night, 2 adults & 2 kids.

Great place to stay. The kitchenette was good with a full sized fridge and cooking stove. They have a pool However, it was not heated despite what the sign said.

Only stayed the evening - got in late and then left fairly early. Check in and check out was easy. Pet friendly and affordable. Is across from Okanagan Lake, so great place to walk along the beach.

The bed was nice and firm and the room was clean. Staff were nice and people were having fun by the pool. The location is great. It is "dog friendly" but there is no dog area on the property - all the signs say no dogs and the sign in sheet says they will keep the deposit if there is any hair on any furniture. The condition of the property is very poor. It looks like they started renos and ran out of money, then went to the thrift store or garage sales to equip the suites with tacky stuff. There were no towel racks and an unstable cabinet over the toilet with no room for towels. The towels were different colors and looked second hand and were stacked in rolls on the beds on arrival. The shelf on the shower insert was uneven so the shampoo would not stand up. The superfluous floor lamp was unstable and looked unsafe. There are no charger outlets or power outlets near the beds. There is an ice bucket but no machine and the office sells large bags for $4 that don't fit in the tiny freezer. There was also a tiny empty ice tray but we didn't use it because it would have taken overnight to make ice.

Comfort in the middle of a long drive appreciateed. Pool is fun, bed is comfortable, modern rooms, free breakfast an easy choice.

The pool was supposed to be heated but it was colder than refrigerator water! The location was very good and convenient. And staff were very nice.

The outside of the "resort" is run down, the pool is NOT heated as their sign states, there was black mould all over the bathroom, it stunk, the blinds were broken, we had to put a towel in the window for privacy, terrible stay, would not recommend and I have pictures and will ve contacting BC Interior Health Services, definitely will be requesting some compensation, nit worth $200 a night, id gauge about $60 a night and a mould warning

Great family oriented hotel with barbeques available around the pool. Across from the beach. A little run down but clean and fabulous location. Clean pool.

The room was dirty. Spider webs all over. Spider webs hanging down from the cieling amd of the walls.

The place was filthy. The nightstand was covered in dust and other unknown substances. Stains covered our pillowcases. The dishes were dirty, had hair on some utensils, and had popcorn bits on them. Will not be sleeping in this dirt ass motel again.

Dirty!!! dead bugs everywhere, dirty glasses and coffee cups . Towels and bed linens were horrible . Everything is run down and in horrible shape . Would NOT recommend staying here .

We booked this motel with realistic expectations—just two families looking for a budget-friendly place to sleep during a fun trip to Penticton. Cleanliness was our only must-have. After reading mixed reviews and calling to confirm that the rooms were clean, we felt reassured and went ahead with the booking. Unfortunately, what we found was the dirtiest motel we’ve ever stayed in. There were spider webs and baby spider nests all around the building and inside the room. The smoke detector was missing, with exposed wires in the ceiling. The ceiling fan was close to falling off the ceiling onto us as we slept. We found empty vodka bottles in the nightstand, beer cans filled with cigarette butts in the kitchen cupboards, stained sheets with food crusted into them, and dead bugs lining the windows. We asked staff to clean the room again, and they did, but when we requested some compensation for the first night (which we spent cleaning), they repeatedly said they had to contact the owners—yet no one followed up. Adding to the concern, there are no security cameras on the property. Another guest told us an $8,000 adaptive tricycle was stolen overnight. This place clearly doesn’t care about cleanliness or safety. We’ve stayed in older motels before and had no issues—like the Riverside nearby, which is aged but clean and cared for. This motel was simply filthy and mismanaged. I rarely write reviews, but this one had to be shared. Please do not stay here.

Room wasn't ready until after 6pm. Even then the floors weren't cleaned properly, the two towels we got were old and tired, the bed was horrible quality with the mattress sunken in on one side. Terrible experience and completely not worth it. The pictures here do not reflect what we got at all.

Great location across from beach but that really is the only redeeming thing about this property. It is quite dilapidated in the rooms and outside. Our room was not ready at 4pm when we arrived so they hurried to complete it. It was poorly cleaned. Floor was sandy and dirty. Bedside table had food crumbs. We paid way too much to stay at the Golden Sands given it’s condition.

The building and furniture are old. The mattress is comfortable, but the bed frame squeaks. Our room had a lot of fruit flies, and the couch was dirty—good thing I brought my own blanket to cover it before sitting. The cutlery and cookware are also quite old. We’re not very meticulous, but cleanliness is very important to us. On the positive side, the front desk staff was nice, and the location is close to the lake.

The location is the best things about this property. The bedroom seemed somewhat updated but the beds were uncomfortable and the bedding was old and not very nice. The towels were unraveling and old. The bathroom was incredibly small, had a broken towel bar and toilet holder so there was no where to set anything except on the back of the toilet. They say they are pet friendly but have no where on the property for the dogs to relieve themselves. The outside of the property is very dirty and run down. There was no way to secure the door from the inside of the room so anyone with a key could potentially open the door while we were asleep.

This is a dated motel that should have had a reno probably 20 years ago. The bed was likely original to opening day and the pillows as they were, seemed better designed for a couch. While there was a coffee maker, there weren't any of the pre-made pouches provided. I booked about 5 days ahead of our stay and the price was $169. The before our stay I looked and the price had dropped to $99. I mentioned this to the staff but there was no reply. On the plus side, check in was 5 minutes, the room was clean as much as we could tell and the location of the motel right beside the lake was nice. We were only there for one night, and I suppose if I had to do another last minute booking, I would stay again, but I would fight harder for the discounted rate.

Great place to stay. We like how it had a separate bedroom and little sitting area and kitchen table. We made. our meals there and it had all we needed to stay and eat there. Great location also.

A good location at the beach, Okanagan Lake, just across the beach. Room was simple but quite large. Had Tv, 2 burner tove, coffee maker. They could probably add a little more kitchen stuff to to the room and a sponge to clean the dishes. Owner was helpful an broght exgtra glasses and a salad mixing bowl. You can wal to a grocery storeand also to dowtown. Good restaurants and coffee shops nearby.

The ceiling fan in our room was falling down and unsafe to use which was unfortunate because it was hot weather and would’ve been useful. As well, the safety sign/firemap or whatever it is right beside the door was shattered glass and half missing - could’ve easily sliced a finger - needs to be replaced asap. Everything else was great and beds were comfy!

The location is excellent . The bathroom fan did not work . There was one sink outside the bathroom which was for both bathroom and kitchen use . The a/c was VERY NOISY and needs servicing . The window blind did not work so we had to cover the window with towels at night .

Was pleasantly surprised that our room was newly renovated and clean. Although the children above us like to run around the wee hours of the morning, it was quite comfortable and clean. Would definitely stay again and definitely recommend, but would ask for top floor. Overall, wonderful 😊

Beautiful view and beautiful location property works, but needs an update.

The first room we were given was already occupied. The second room was not available. The third room was successful, however the window blind did not cover the bottom 4 or 5". The T.V. wasn't working - Found that the HDMI cable was disconnected.

The motel is older and the staff have done a great job to maintain it. The location is amazing right across from the beach. That’s what sold us! We got a free upgrade without asking and the staff were very friendly and very accommodating. Highly recommend for a summer destination

we requested a late check in and we were told our room key would be left in the mailbox in front of the office upon arrival. There was nothing in there and no number to call for after hours service.

Great area and bed but the check in time was delayed to 5:30 pm. Expedia said 2 pm and when we arrived the front desk said 4 pm… then the rooms still were not cleaned until 5:30 pm

This was our first time staying at Golden Sands! Doug was there to welcome us when we checked in. He made us feel like family the second we entered the office. He was kind and had tons of suggestions for restaurants. He was personable and chatted with my six-year-old, who immediately became a big fan of his :). He was helpful and attentive our entire trip. Thank you so much, Doug! I also left my hair straightener behind, and Doug went above and beyond to get it and mail it to me on his own time. The Hotel is old….. Like every other hotel around there, however, it’s extremely clean and kept up-to-date. We had a very nice room with air-conditioning and a kitchenette. There is an outdoor swimming pool that was a bit brisk but very much needed as it was around 36° when we were there. Golden Sands is now going to be our family’s go to hotel! Thank you Doug for providing a level of customer service that went above and beyond!

When I checked in, the person at the desk was very rude and dismissive despite my happy disposition. When I checked out, a new person on the desk was fabulous! People matter.

Upon early arrival at 2 PM I was told to come back at 4 and the room would be ready. I came back at 4 PM to be told it wasn’t ready to come back at 5. I came back at 5 and was told it still wasn’t ready because most people done check out until 11:00 AM. Well that then needs to be a concern of the owner/s to have the appropriate number of housekeepers on at that time to be able to have all rooms ready for check in time at 4:00 PM. The older gentleman that finally checked me in apologized but did not offer any compensation at all. I should not have to ask for this. He is a very kind gentleman who makes you feel you shouldn’t ask for compensation. There is not enough staff working to maintain Golden Sands as it should be. The exterior of the buildings look very shabby with run down not taken care of staircases with cobwebs, dust, dirt and debris including sand and dirt. In desperate need of cleaning. The room that we were given it had broken and bent blinds. The beds were directly in front of this window that people could see directly in while walking the upper balcony. I actually had to use a container lid for the bigger opening and I had to wrap toilet paper over the other broken blinds to help from people seeing in. There was no sink in the bathroom. There was a counter with microwave and coffee maker on it that also had the sink to use after using the bathroom. Dishes and dish detergent were sparsely supplied so I guess it has to be used for both. The location is a 5 star.

Its walkable to everything.. The front staff is very unfriendly.. Not welcoming at all. When I checked in, i greeted her nicely but no response, took my payment and gave me the room keys.. Didnt even gave me the wifi password.. I thought it may be available in the room but isnt. I didnt manage to go back and askes as I dont want to deal with her anymore.. such a negative vibe. The properly itself is old and smell old as you enter the room, however, good customer service can make up for it.. On check out, same lady manning the office, I greeted good morning, she greeted me back with her eyes glued to her computer.. I said Im checking out took my keys and thats it.. We have been coming back to Penticton every year.. This is our first time at this property and we will never come back.. I will not recommend it to my friends either.

Lots of restaurants near by. Nice beach next to the motel.

Quality was poor. Sofa bed white stains. Drawers filthy, bed in bad shape very very flat, pillows were so small they looked and felt like t-shirts inside pillow case. Over all .. was a rough stay.. but then again easy on the wallet.

Our 2 night stay at this motel was safe, convinient & comfortable. We had all the appliances we needed in the room, the aircon was cool, comfortable beds & washroom clean with hot/cold water. The Okanagan Beach is just across the street, with restaurants & shops close by. The city centre is walkable & it's easy to drive coming from / heading to Vancouver, Kelowna or Osoyoos. Absolutely a great value resort motel.

Great location as there is a paved walkway and sandy beach for swimming right across the road. Property is older and dated but it's hard to beat the location, especially at the price which is very reasonable.

Walkable and easy access to the beach

WE stayed for 2 nights. Room had a full kitchen with dishes, fridge, kettle, stove. Parking was hard to find, not too many spots. Right across the beach, close to restaurants and other attractions. Overall we had a nice stay. It was quiet at night.

Staff are super. Location is unbeatable. Feels just like home.
