Hotel In Kyoto Sasarindou

Out dated building but large room. The breakfast was simple with no laundry service. If you need anything it’s a few blocks to walk to the nearest store.

The location is very convenient to everywhere and it’s the reason I recommend this hotel. The space of room is pretty big with a bathtub and shower room. Breakfast is traditional Japaneses style. There is a coffee area serving hot and ice coffee after 3pm. I wish there is a work table and chair so I can work in my room.

Hotel provided slippers and sleep wear, they all all the necessities at the lobby coffee and tea, personal stuff, very close walking distance to everything, refrigerator and kettle to boil water , enjoyed it here.

Wow! Just wow! This was the biggest surprise I've ever had from a hotel stay. I'd booked the deluxe twin room and was expecting a small room like everywhere else in Japan. But I walked in to discover a very spacious room, HUGE bathroom with a very large tub and separate shower area, and most surprising of all... my own private sauna! The hotel is located in the heart of Gion, but once you are in the hotel it is a serene quiet setting where you don't hear any noise from outside. They have so many toiletries in front of the lifts for you to take up to your room, including face wash, skin lotion, moisturiser and many more. Cleaning is done every 2-3 days but they will give you clean towels and yukata every day, rubbish bins can also be emptied every day, plus they give you 2L of bottled water every day. Breakfast is Japanese style only, which I have no problem with. It's a set where you get fish, egg, pickled veg, rice and miso soup. This doesn't really change much day by day so for long stay it does get repetitive. This might be my only grouse with staying here, as I was staying 7 nights. Overall I couldn't be more impressed with hotel Sasarindou and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Gion, as for the price I paid I got so much. It is by far the best value I ever had from any hotel stay in Japan. A true gem!

Excellent value for money. A quiet area with lots of shops and eateries just around the corner. Walkable to various local temples and to local metro stations. Helpful staff who look after your luggage and a little room by reception to eat your own food and a kitchen to use. We stopped for two nights but wish we would have stopped longer. I recommend.

The first thing you'll tell you is that you cannot take a taxi directly to the hotel. They'll be forced to drop you off. Not far from the hotel, but the walkways are that of old Japan very narrow, a taxi just can't just get through. The front entrance is very nice. It has a combination of The 70s and 20s mixed would be my guess. It is not run down at all . Everything was clean and the staff was very helpful to me a foreign traveler. They request that you remove your shoes in in the door opening and put on slippers. If your feet are smaller, then seven I imagine you'll be just fine using the ones they provide. If you're like me, however, eleven inches only half my foot fits in their slippers. Now, for the fun part of the review, the area is amazing and they're R. Historical sites all around within walking distance of just a few minutes. I was there over the weekend, and there were countless live performances in the parks that we're all free to enjoy. As for food, it is plentiful and there is a restaurant every ten feet.It seems. There is a bus stop and a subway stop. Just a block away. If you want a tour, any place else.

This hotel is beautiful and we were very pleased with our room. The bathroom felt luxurious! We also couldn't have asked for a better location, it is in a quiet area next to a museum, shrine, and picturesque roads. The nearby park was in full Autumn colors. Breakfast was set out on trays for all guests, and consisted of traditional Japanese foods. The coffee was delicious. The staff spoke English and were extremely helpful with advice and letting us keep our luggage on site for a few hours after we checked out. We were so happy here and would absolutely recommend this hotel to other travelers.

We loved this hotel! Super clean, right in the very heart of Gion, super short walking distance to all the main attractions and sites, the traditional breakfast provided was a huge plus, we loved it. The room was very spacious, the biggest we had during our stay in Japan. Loved the shower room with large tub and that the showering area was separate from toilet and sink. Definitely the largest bathroom we had as well. Slippers are provided and ready when you enter your room in order to keep the floors clean and I like that the toiletries are provided downstairs so you can take what you need, and leave what you don’t. Efficient and eliminates waste. Staff was friendly and so helpful. We were trying to get a taxi upon our checkout on one of the busiest days and he was determined to help us even though he was busy helping other guests check in and out. He was persistent and got us a taxi which felt like a small miracle. We really appreciated everything about this hotel and would absolutely recommend it and stay again.

今回は5人女性グループで宿泊しました。　部屋はとても清潔感があり浴室洗面所も広く、快適にすごすことが出来ました。アメニティも豊富、朝食もついていての宿泊で最高でした。スタッフの接客も丁寧で申し分ありませんでした。また、京都にくる際は必ず宿泊したいと思いました。

I have stayed at Sasarindou a number of times over the last 10 years, and was really surprised to see the poor condition this time. Part of what I like about Sasarindou is the retro charm, but now it seems like even minor repairs are not being made to keep the hotel in livable condition, which is a shame because the staff is WONDERFUL. We had tape covering areas needing repair, bleach stains on the carpet, a dirty cover on our couch and a large rip in our curtain. There were large cracks in the walls around the property. The mattress was also extremely uncomfortable and worn out. Our room smelled of old cigarette smoke and our friend’s room on the first floor smelled damp and “green” if that makes any sense- as if moss or algae was growing in it. Although the rooms seemed clean, I felt too uncomfortable to use the shower or leave my clothing on the surfaces. A side note but relevant- I brought my friend, who has cancer, on this trip. Our itinerary shifted by two days due to her treatment schedule changing. Although I booked nonrefundable rooms, I figured they would be willing to shift our booking since we were keeping the same number of nights. They declined. In the end, despite losing the money for 2 nights for 2 rooms AND paying to stay elsewhere, I am glad because after the first night we were more than happy to move to a different hotel anyway due to the poor condition. I hope they fix up this hotel because it was a real gem in a very nice location.

今回お宿を決めるにあたって、ホテルを出てすぐに京都を感じられる街並みに行かれる所…を重視したのですが、まさにピッタリのお宿でした。建物自体は古いのかもしれませんが、清潔感があり、お風呂、洗面所は広く、使いやすかったです。そしてこのお値段で朝ごはんが付いていることに感動しました

I don’t think the hotel has been updated in 30 years. It’s kind of cool— a throwback to an earlier era. Vintage. But takes some getting used to. Free breakfast didn’t appeal to us. We skipped it. One complaint is that the windows lacked blackout blinds. If you are light sensitive, you will want an eye mask.

Room smelled like sewage. Mold on the shower curtain. Drained slowly. Towels wouldn't dry and there was no staff to replace them. Checked out early

Very large room for Japan. The hotel has a charming 70s style aesthetic. The Japanese breakfast was good. Very good location.

Our room was spacious and in an incredibly convenient spot, but the wifi didn’t work at all.

Great location. The room was huge, not just by japan standards but even bigger than a lot of American rooms. Only gave a four star because the bed was not comfortable, too hard for me, but that may be good for others. Hotel was a bit outdated, and themed a bit weird but that’s not really important (to us), we just care about location and cleanliness and those things exceeded our expectations.

花見小路に近く便利で良かったか、Wi-Fiが弱くて楽しめなかった。

The bathroom with Jacuzzi was very spacious and I think foreign travelers will be satisfied.

英からも近く、四条という賑やかな場所にあるためたくさんのレストランやカフェ、などの飲食店、そして神社仏閣もあってとても良いところです。 部屋もお風呂も広く、フロントスタッフの方も凄く親切で感じが良かったです、京都へ行く際はまた是非利用したいホテルです。

Very central location in the Gion district and close to underground train station. Slightly quirky hotel with a Rolls Royce in the foyer. We enjoyed our stay here.

The location was great in the middle of Gion district and I was able to walk to most of the places in the area, avoiding super crowded buses full of tourists. The rooms were pretty outdated but spacious, breakfast was simple but very nice.

Kahvaltı kısıtlı ve çeşit yetersiz . Konum çok iyi. Otelde tek hizmet istediğiniz kadar banyoda kullanılan hijenik ve kozmetik ürünleri alabildiğiniz bir stand olması . Birde Akşam 15.00 den sonra ücretsiz kahve çay vs sunan bir bölüm var. Odalar eski ve japon tipi aşırı renkli duvar kağıtşarı ile kaplı. Yataklar yere yakın ve eski yaylı yatak. Jakuzi var ama hizmet dışı. En büyük artısı eski şehirin içinde çok merkezi ve olması. Elinizde eşya varsa osaka treni sadece 5 dk uzakta ama bir odarda sessiz ve sakin bir muhitte.

The room deco is kind of old fashion but the room size and bathroom size are surprisingly big when comparing with the averagea hotel room size among Japan. The great budget room rate ( including a Japanese style breakfast ) and the great location ( in the Center of Gion) definitely compensating the room deco. staff are helpful and friendly. i will give 9.5 out of 10. Highly recommended.

Cozy hotel, a bit dated, off the beaten path in a nice neighborhood. Don’t bother with their Japanese breakfast. Not good quality. There’s plenty of coffee shops nearby.
