Met the proprietor Craig who was very friendly & informative upon arrival. The building is currently under refurbishment externally but once inside is very cozy. Room was a little dated but spotlessly clean & comfortable. Plenty of goods on offer to make yourself a continental breakfast in a very well equipped & spacious communal kitchen

I was really impressed by the level of communication from the Pillars. We had booked the room some 5 months earlier to see the military tattoo. Upon arrival, we were met by Craig, who went to great lengths to point out ways by which we could get the most of our trip to Edinburgh; eateries, pubs, clubs, etc. The room was lovely, comfy beds and lots of perks like a fridge in the room, biscuits, tea, coffee, croissants, water and other delights. The kitchen was well equipped and had yoghurt, muffins, fruit, etc, as well as water, ice and a huge fridge. There's a Tesco in easy walkibg distance and the hotel is directly on the Lieth/Airport tram route, with the tram stop being about a 4 minute walk away. Comfy, quirky, and convenient.

I loved this place great for my people on a budget large kitchen to use free milk tea coffee fruit and muffins vert clean and wat a bonus to have a fridge in your room Laundry parking Staff are really nice Looks old and dreary but it’s not when ya get in teammate right outside loads of shops pubs restaurants in walking distance Best hotel yet

I’ve never stayed in a hostel but I think this was a previous hostel room and it was clean and large, giving my family of 4 enough space to spread out. Also it having a full-size kitchen was very convenient again giving me some extra spaces since I’ve been with my family of 4 all week in London. And the manager was very helpful and friendly. Only complaint we had was the room was on the top of 3 floors and no elevator. So yeah there were a lot of hugging and puffing mostly by me. Overall it was a great place considering I planned this last minute and didn’t even know the fringe was going on in Edinburgh.

Everything we needed was covered. The staff were very friendly, the room was comfy and well equipped. The en-suit was spotless, and the use of a kitchen downstairs was ideal. There was no shortage of complimentary snacks and drinks. Check in and check out was swift, and having parking on location was ideal. It was well connected to Edinburgh, with a tram stop near by, and plenty of local amenities. Would absolutely stay here again!

The kitchen has as much teas, coffees, muffins etc. that you would need. And you feel welcome and comfortable using the kitchen abd facilties

Really impressed with this place, especially for the very fair price we paid. Convenient location about 200 yards from tram stop. Really spacious room which had small kitchen facility as added bonus. Staff friendly and luggage storage helpful. Only gripe was that our shower in the en suite bathroom did not work v well

Positives: friendly staff (when around). Good sized rooms and fairly new bathrooms. Fridge in bedroom with milk, juice, cans etc. Large kitchen area to cook own food and fruit/milk etc provided. Close to Tesco and park. Negatives: Unclear how to get to the rear of the property to park and parking is touch and go whether you will get a space, especially with workmen using up spaces. Paper thin walls inside the stone building. Had to move after the first night as (what I now believe was someone in the private area below me) was watching an action film very loudly until 2am. Then the builders re-doing the roof start noisily at 8am. The next room on the same floor was quieter but only as I had an elderly lady in the room next to me. However, I could hear her coughing as if she was standing next to me. Duvets were thin and pillows very hard. There was an oil heater in the second room but my first night was chilly. Both rooms had a shower where the shower head wouldn't stay in position on the wall. Had to wash glass cups in both rooms as they had bits on them. Overall, I would not recommend - most things I could put up with but the noise issue is the deal-breaker and, for the price, it definitely is not worth all the negatives.

Very good and helpful staff, we also borrowed their washing machine. They also had a kitchen with coffee and fruits that was a really nice touch. Superb location, really good value for the money!

No stylish room but very clean, very comfortable beds, hot water and a shower that runs with the perfect flow. Large shared kitchen you can use with everything you need. Unfortunately people don’t always put away their washed dishes so there were a lot drying beside the sink but the kitchen was sparkling. We will definitely come back, very good value for your money.

The room was exactly as it looked in the pictures. Very clean, and great conditions. Also, we had breakfast included and it was fantastic! The staff was also very, very kind. The only bad thing, was that when we got there, the room smelled a bit like cigarettes, but after some hours of the window open, it was fine. But definitely I would a 100% recommend this place!

Room was clean and well provisioned. Great location for going into Edinburgh walk or tram and Leith. Set up for breakfast is help yourself, which works really well. S tag are friendly and helpful.

The rooms have been renovated and it is very comfortable. The bedding looks as though it’s been washed hundreds of times but that is not a problem as everything was clean.

Staying at Pillars House was like home from home. So comfortable and clean. We didn't have breakfast, but we could have helped ourselves to toast, jams, fruit, etc.... which looked lovely. The location was perfect - such a lovely area - will definitely stay there again.

Some rooms including mine are overlooking Constitution Street where the tram now runs. This can be noisy first thing in the morning and late evening (including people leaving several pubs ), especially if you like the window open for fresh air. On the other hand the tram stop is a couple of minutes away so ideal access to the city 👍.

Great location right on the tramline. Honestly for the price and location. I dont think you can complain at all. Owner was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and well stocked.

I had a friendly welcome, great that I could check in at noon and I was given a room at the back of the hotel on the first (top) floor. Fair sized family room with a double and single bed, attic style window with roller blind, basic key operated safe and fridge stocked with complimentary juices, water and milk were the key features. Food offerings included flavoured croissants and mini packs of biscuits. Small old fashioned en suite with toiletries and ample towels. The beds were too short for someone 6ft or taller, lots of creaking floorboards and paper thin walls. I was unlucky with inconsiderate neighbours, who didn't stop talking or have the tv at a reasonable volume until they went to sleep. Even then I could hear snoring/ sighing through the thin walls. Ear plugs are essential, I would advise. The hotel is situated in a quiet area of Leith and there is a tram stop close by.

Great location few minutes by tram to the centre. Shops near by. Many restaurants and pubs too. Not far from the ocean terminal too. Room was nice and warm. Beds clean and comfy. Huge kitchen downstairs available. Friendly staff. Would use it again if I would return to Edinburgh.

Charming older building a short walk from coffee shops, restaurants and Edinburgh’s excellent tram network and public transit. The room was tidy and serviceable, staff was friendly and responsive, all at a great price point. It’s not the Omni, to be clear, but it’s a comfortable place to use for exploring Edinburgh. Do note that there are stairs to the rooms so keep accessibility in mind.

It was easy to get to this property via the tram after getting off our train from the train station. If you are arriving by plane, you can also easily access the tram to this property too. The proximity to a tram stop makes this property a standout. When we arrived, we were greeted by Edna and her son Craig. They were both really friendly and gave us a lot advice of where to eat and what to do. We managed to go to one of Craig’s many recommendations - Fishwater for fish and chips, which was located a couple of tram stops away. The price was so reasonable and the large fish and chips order was so huge that my daughter and I ended up sharing it. It was really fantastic! Pillars House offers a continental breakfast of wrapped granola bars and wrapped jam filled croissants to enjoy in the room. They also supply you with tasty cookies to enjoy with the generous tea/coffee/hot chocolate supplies in the room. In addition, guests have access to the kitchen at all times, where there are generous supplies of assorted fruit ie apples, oranges, grapes, plums and bananas and generous supply of wrapped large muffins to supplement your breakfast or to grab as snacks throughout the day. We were impressed with the daily cleaning and refreshing of our rooms. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and the room was really quiet. We never heard our neighbours in the rooms on either side of our room for our entire 3 night stay. We highly recommend Pillars!

Cant fault it. Stayed here for New Years. Met a great guy called Craig who checked us all in and had great conversation and hints and tips. The room was warm and clean. Would definitely stay again.

Friendly from the start. Craig was an attentive host giving suggests how to get into the city and good local restaurants. He was very friendly and welcoming. Despite the rooms being what some might call dated I found to be very warm and homely. A stocked fridge of Irn-Bru and water makes a nice welcome too. The location is just outside of the main city but an easy walk to get to with everything you would need in the area.

We were a very last minute reservation as our flight was unexpectedly cancelled. The owners were incredibly welcoming & kind. The rooms are small but cozy & each has an en-suite bathroom. Enormous & well equipped kitchen for all residents to use. Short walk to public transportation.

Staff is really friendly and helpful. We arrived early and check in time was noon still he provided us another room for 2 hours and didn’t charge extra. Hardly recommended.

The manager there was incredibly friendly, the kitchen was clean and full of coffee, tea, and muffins. Not the most amazing location but has a tram stop to central Edinburgh a 2 minute walk away. Definitely would stay here again

Great stay. We arrived a bit early and the room was ready. Close to a tram stop or about a 30 min walk to princes street. Plenty of shops, cafes and bars nearby.

If you want to stay in authentic Edinburough, this is the place. This is a charming old world building with wonderful ambiance. The staff is very friendly and helped us find great places to visit during our time in the city. The hotel is located half a block from the tram station that takes you into the center of Edinburough and to the airport so it is very conveniently placed.

The property is located in a nice area, easily accessible. It does not offer a proper breakfast, but a dining space, coffee, tea, snacks, milk, bread and fruit. The hosts are really helpful. However, the price is quite high, although could not find better in Edinburgh.

This was favorite place to stay on our vacation. We had triple room (3 twin beds). Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Felt safe. Loved the great snacks and drinks that were provided (croissants, cookies, cereal bars, water, energy drinks, OJ) plus flavored teas. Edna and her sons took great care of us. Provided map, directions, recommendations and stored our luggage for us on last day so we could have a nice breakfast after checking out and not have to drag our luggage with us until it was time to go to train station.

The room was ok, adequate for a couple of nights sleep. The room was clean thr beds were comfy. Coffee making stuff in our room alongside breakfast stuff. The breakfast stuff were cereal bars, croissants and small cartons of juice, not what we were expecting. You could make use of the large kitchen to make food if you so wanted. The shower was small however lots hot water there was shower gel,body lotion provided for you. On arrival to the hotel the door is locked and uou have a ring a bell for the guy to let you in. You are given a key to let yourself in when you left the hotel The huy we spoke to was very helpful answering the questions we needed to know about the trams/ Edinburgh. The hotel in situated approx 40 minute walk from Princess Street however the trams pass by it and the tram station in approx 2 minute walk from the hotel.
