The Buccaneer Inn is located conveniently near the harbour in Nanaimo. We were very surprised by the large amount of space - a bedroom with a king bed and a pleasant and clean bathroom. But the standout was a very nice 'living room' complete with a fireplace, and a kitchen with a fridge, microwave and full stove/oven! The place was nice and clean with good quality toiletries. And the price was very reasonable.

Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. Nicely appointed, nice small touches. Clean. The best guest manual ever! Good water pressure in the shower. We would have liked a roll of paper towels in our unit (it had a kitchen). Secure bicycle storage and a bike-washing station. It would not be easy for someone with mobility disabilities to access, i.e. stairs.

This is a great property in a very convenient location if you are catching the morning ferry. Tge rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped. The property does not have air conditioning, but as you're very close to the ocean, you don't need it. It also does not have an elevator. Depending on how much you're unloading from your vehicle this may be a problem as you will need to walk up stairs.

WAlkable to ferry terminal. Although we did not make use of it, they have a shower for mountain bikers to use - if they checked out earlier in the day and went for a ride. That is a nice service to offer.

Located within a few minutes drive from Departure Bay Ferry Terminal, this was perfect for our overnight stay before heading onwards. The hotel room was clean and spacious with very good amenities (eg. small kitchen area including stove, microwave and fridge) for the price. Thanks to the friendly staff for the easy check-in and check-out!

Hotel room was spacious. Had a kitchenette and a comfy bed. Was very clean and comfortable. Only downside if any is that the rooms don’t have air conditioning ( they do have fans in the rooms ) and the parking is a little tight. But would recommend if staying around town.

The Buccaneer is obviously run by people who care deeply about doing a great job. It was really clean, comfortable, and the staff were all friendly, kind, and helpful. There was a minor problem with the weather stripping of the door, and this was taken care of immediately upon notifying the front desk. The only disappointment was that the laundry facilities have been closed down - this was not reflected on Hotels.com nor on the hotel's own website, so we had counted on having that available. Otherwise, a lovely stay!

I was very much surprised when I checked in. For the price it was very good. They’ve done a great job fixing the place up. My only comment is that they need to clean the bathroom a little bit better I saw some hair on the floor and the tub could use a good scrubbing. But other than that, it was fantastic. I think that was a housekeeping issue that they probably should talk to their housekeeper about and probably will rectify. They seem very concerned about how people think of their motel.The view of the channel watching the sailboats go by was amazing. It does not have air air-conditioning, but you can just open up all the windows and enjoy the sea air.

How is this place rated a 9.2? The pictures Expedia provides (I’m sure it’s fr the motel itself) do not reflect the condition of this motel. The corridor/balconies are filthy, there was an odour of stale moist air in the room, bathroom sink and tub drains do not drain properly. Went to front desk to inquire about the problem, apparently, he had to watch a video on how to rectify the issue. We cancelled the fix as it was already so late, and we were tired fr a day of driving. Kitchen floors & carpets were sticky. We found some mouse droppings on the floor….none of us slept a wink. I’m sure the staff are nice for the most part, but priority when looking for accommodations is cleanliness, and this was far from it. Super disappointed as we chose this place based on reviews and the pictures. If you’re in a pinch, sure, stay here, but be prepared for an uncomfortable experience.

First of all, the front desk staff could not have been better. FANTASTIC front desk staff…. Hands down. Regarding the room, hot but the fan helped a bit. The bathroom floors were very sticky… didn’t want to walk barefoot. Wiped it down w/a washcloth and still sticky. Comforter had a stain but had been washed and set in. But again… front desk staff couldn’t have been nicer.

The Buccaneer Inn is the cleanest hotel I have ever been in. Seriously. The beds and bedding are always very comfortable. The rooms are not modern, but the decor and furnishings are incredibly clean (did I mention that? I will again!), comfortable and pleasantly decorated with local art. The suites are always in great shape - everything always works. The owners and staff think of every little thing their customer may need, from multiple power outlets for your electronics to fans, extra blankets, cork screws and proper cups and glasses, milk for your coffee (not coffee mate). We appreciate the kitchenettes with full size refrigerators and stoves. We live on a nearby boat-access-only island and sometimes need to stay overnight before we can get home. We often have groceries we are able to keep fresh in the fridge (and freezer!). We enjoy having the seperate bedroom so one of us can sleep earlier, or later without disturbance if needed. It is also nice to have the living room so you don't have to lay/sit on a bed all evening when staying in. This is our favourite hotel/motel in Nanaimo and it is spotless!

Stay in room 106 and around 12:30am-1am person started a bath and could hear the water pipes so loud it sounded like it was in my room. It woke me up and everytime they added more water to their bath it would wake me up again I did record the noise for staff to check into it because it was so loud.

Really spacious room with separate living area, bedroom, and kitchen. Staff quite friendly, enjoyable two-night stay. Room was a little dated, but still super comfortable. Walking distance (10min) to ferry terminal. I would definitely stay here again.

I chose the property because it was in walking distance of the ferry and we only stayed one night, but the room was fitted with a kitchen and living room and had a nice view of the water (across the road). It looked like it would be a very good place to stay for a longer visit to the Nanaimo area. It was also very clean and had a good coffee maker.

We needed to stay within walking distance of the ferry terminal as we had several bags and no car. The Buccaneer was just right. It took us 15-20 minutes, taking our time. We arrived a couple of hours before check in. Our room was not quite ready but the manager on duty kindly let us keep the bags in his office, he even carried them all in for us. We had lunch at one of the pubs opposite then returned to check in. It was our first motel, we liked the option of using the kitchen though we ate out. It had a kettle and cream for our cups of tea. Place was clean, perfectly fine for our one night stay. Very attentive staff, went out of their way to help.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Within the first 2 hours of my arrival the first time using the washroom facility flooded and they did not move me rooms. They also charged my card twice, one for the room charge and one for the damage deposit. To when I asked when I would receive my damage deposit back they did not provide me with an answer, they also stated they would give me a refund and have yet to issue that as well. I have reached out 3 times trying to get an answer or my money issued back to me and zero response from anyone. Terrible management, would not rec to anyone!!!!

The owners seem to be involved in every aspect of this cute motel and they go out of their way to think of all the details including finding the perfect mattress for a good nights sleep. We really enjoyed our stay at The Buccaneer Inn

It’s our third stay over the span of 4 years. Excellent motel, great staff and service, clean room. Quiet location right by the water, very conveniently situated from the transportation standpoint, close to Downtown Nanaimo, and many restaurants and stores are within 10-15 min drive.

The Buccaneer is obviously run by people who care deeply about doing a great job. It was really clean, comfortable, and the staff were all friendly, kind, and helpful. There was a minor problem with the weather stripping of the door, and this was taken care of immediately upon notifying the front desk. The only disappointment was that the laundry facilities have been closed down - this was not reflected on Hotels.com nor on the hotel's own website, so we had counted on having that available. Otherwise, a lovely stay!

The staff on arrival was kind and helpful. We got into our room very quickly and they made some great recommendations for the night. In the room there was a binder full of local knowledge as well as a suggested day trip up to Tofino. We did most if it and it was fantastic. The room was very clean and made it easy to relax after spending the day exploring. Both my partner and I would definitely here again.

Nice motel for a great price. Quiet. Room was very clean but a little small. Very close to the ferry to Horseshoe Bay. Great bar just down the street. Front desk staff was super friendly. A little away from downtown but a very easy drive.

Great location to ferry terminal. Very well maintained. Appreciated having a full size fridge and freezer. Quieter than expected for the location. Easy check in and directions.

The hosts were friendly and helpful. While an older property, the room was exceptionally clean and tidy, the bed very comfortable. We liked the convenience of the location to the ferry terminal and walking distance to several restaurants after a day of travel. It was also close to access to the waterfront walkway. We would not hesitate to recommend this property

Located within a few minutes drive from Departure Bay Ferry Terminal, this was perfect for our overnight stay before heading onwards. The hotel room was clean and spacious with very good amenities (eg. small kitchen area including stove, microwave and fridge) for the price. Thanks to the friendly staff for the easy check-in and check-out!

We needed to stay within walking distance of the ferry terminal as we had several bags and no car. The Buccaneer was just right. It took us 15-20 minutes, taking our time. We arrived a couple of hours before check in. Our room was not quite ready but the manager on duty kindly let us keep the bags in his office, he even carried them all in for us. We had lunch at one of the pubs opposite then returned to check in. It was our first motel, we liked the option of using the kitchen though we ate out. It had a kettle and cream for our cups of tea. Place was clean, perfectly fine for our one night stay. Very attentive staff, went out of their way to help.

Although a little warn, very clean and fully equipped kitchen which allowed us to have a few meals in the suite instead of spending $ eating out every night. It can get noisy with car traffic during the day but quieter in the evening. We had no issue sleeping at night. There is no AC but I found opening the window allowed a nice breeze to flow into the room.

Not a fancy place by any means but clean and very comfortable. Management was very friendly and helpful. It was well stocked if you want to do some cooking in the room. We only made coffee and used electric kettle. Bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept on. Only negative is parking is a little tight but it is fine. Would be my first choice if I come back.

The motel room was very clean and quaint. They focus on locally sourced items, from coffee to the art in the rooms. The beds were comfortable, the kitchenette very handy and the information package was beyond what most offer. The owner was very helpful and was able to accommodate a special request. We highly recommend this motel.

I chose the property because it was in walking distance of the ferry and we only stayed one night, but the room was fitted with a kitchen and living room and had a nice view of the water (across the road). It looked like it would be a very good place to stay for a longer visit to the Nanaimo area. It was also very clean and had a good coffee maker.

The property is for sure dated, but mostly clean, staff were friendly. The only not clean thing i noticed was dust in places like the front of cabinets, but a busy summer is just ending, ive worked jobs like these so I get it. Overall my experience was good. Just to note there is no AC, this was fine for my stay, they had opened windows when i booked so it was fairly cool.

There has been many issues about cleanliness during our stay. There was milk left in the fridge by previous guests, eyeglasses left on the nightstand, dirty tissues behind the nightstand, dirty sofa bed sheets and not enough towels for the guests that were indicated on the reservation. We waited for a long time at the lobby to address these concerns but no one showed up until nearly one hour later. It's even very hard to lock our front door as you have to use a lot of strength to turn the lock to lock the door. The front desk staff tried to address our concerns but management never took care of the issues. The barbecue equipment outside didn't work, there was no A/C so we had to use floor fans and keep the front door and windows open all day. Our room was never cleaned by their cleaning staff during our stay. We constantly had to ask for soap and more linens.
