The hotel is in a great location for getting around town on foot. Our room was two flights up and because there is no elevator, that meant dragging many suitcases up and down lots of stairs. I booked a king and single room, but when I got there, there was only a king bed. The attendant came up and pulled a single cot out from under the bed and made it for me, but that’s not exactly what I had bargained for as a cot is nowhere near as comfortable as a bed. Luckily, I was jet lagged and exhausted, so I slept soundly anyway. There is no AC, and they were having unusually warm weather, so the room was stuffy and warm. This wouldn’t be a problem normally. The room was clean and quiet enough. The staff was friendly and accommodating. There were a couple of oddities in this room, though…one was the bathroom. There is no light switch - when you open the door, the light comes on and it’s on a timer so it will shut off after a period of time. The problem is that even with the door shut, the light comes through the door and if you get up in the middle of the night, the moment the bathroom door opens, the light fills the room. I really didn’t like this feature. Also, the bathroom door is an automatic close, so you have to prop it open in order to flow freely through the room. Parking was relatively simple for the fact that they don’t have a parking lot there. But we never had a problem finding a spot.

The Ranald is a small hotel located very close to the pier, which was convenient for us since we returned late from Mull and needed a place to stay before driving back to Cambridge. The receptionist was kind and helpful. The hotel does not have a restaurant, and the breakfast options were somewhat limited. Additionally, there is no lift, which was a bit inconvenient as I am recovering from a broken leg. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

The hotel was very comfortable. The room we were given was on the ground floor - coincidentally a handicapped room so it was amply spacious with a huge bathroom. The breakfast was very good. Parking was the only inconvenience. It was on the street and it was necessary to feed the meter every 2 hours. The town is interesting and good for walking, but most restaurants are closed from 3:00 to 5:00, it was hard to find a late lunch.

The property was on the third floor (4th floor for Americans) with no elevator. The kitchen appliances were old. When we arrived, the carpet outside the bathroom was soaking wet. We reported the problem and were given towels to lay on the floor. We thought that maintenance was going to look into the problem while we were out the next day but nothing was done. The best thing about the apartment was its location, which was walkable to shops and restaurants and to the ferry.

Clean, comfortable hotel close to the railway station and town centre. I had a small room and the hotel were honest and said it was probably best suited to solo travellers or short stays. The room was big enough but the bathroom was tiny. Fine for solo travellers though. Very clean and comfortable.

From check in to check out I’ve no complaints, staff easy to deal with amd so friendly, nice comfortable bed and hot shower what more do you need. I also left an article of clothing so phoned up the next day and the staff posted it back to me, fantastic service. Room was spotless and the housekeeping was perfect.

Location was great. Rooms could have been a little cleaner, but bed was comfortable. Bathroom sink didn’t drain properly so a little maintenance would help. Otherwise, breakfast was very good.

We had a room on the first floor and we were glad given there was no elevator. The room had everything we needed. Bed and pillows were a little hard and the street was a bit noisy at night. Property couldn’t be better located for the price. We would stay here again.

The check in instructions said we would be greeted on arrival. I messaged to confirm an arrival time but no one was there and no one answered the phone when we called multiple times. We eventually had to find the check in for the hotel (not the apartments) ourselves. Positives: convenient location But that’s it Negatives: No lift No air conditioning - it was so hot in the room it was like a sauna. We had to go back to reception and beg for a fan which to be honest did very little. Midges- the room window had been left open and there were midges in the room when we arrived. We had to get them out and close the window. The lack of any sort of net on the window meant we couldn’t open it for the duration of our stay. Condition of the room: run down and the bathroom was in particularly bad condition. Both the toilet roll holder and the towel rail were on the verge of falling off. There was also only half a roll of toilet paper so we had to again go to reception to get this and then walk it back down the street to the apartment. Power shower - you have to click the power on for the shower before you enter and then switch it on and these notoriously have terrible water pressure. No daily cleaning

The Ranald is a small hotel located very close to the pier, which was convenient for us since we returned late from Mull and needed a place to stay before driving back to Cambridge. The receptionist was kind and helpful. The hotel does not have a restaurant, and the breakfast options were somewhat limited. Additionally, there is no lift, which was a bit inconvenient as I am recovering from a broken leg. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

Oban is a beautiful town on the water, with a variety of options for dining and shopping. The hotel is centrally located, in a safe area, the rooms are quite large and it was very quiet at night. No parking on premises but that is the case with most hotels in Oban. Plenty of car parks, though, located near the hotel.

Excellent apt. for Oban. Close to wharf, attractions, food & pubs. We arrived @ 10 pm and staff were welcoming and knowledgable. Highly recommended!

They accommodated our group of four with one double bed and two single beds in the same room to avoid extra costs. I cannot say enough about the breakfast, which cost only 10 SBP per person. One hot menu choice and unlimited continental and drink choices included. I have found nowhere else that does that, at least on our Scotland trip. If your travels take you anywhere near Oban, book this hotel!

Not recommending a stay here. Rooms are subpar and overpriced. Here are all the things where the Ranald falls short: - No elevator. We had to lug our bags up four flights of stairs. This was never disclosed during booking - No air conditioning. Room was very warm and would not cool down even with the window open - Poor/no ventilation in room. Window is small and will only open a tiny bit. - Bedside lamp did not work - Bathroom light cannot be turned off/ no light switch could be located. Light shines through gap in doorway all night - Bathroom has no outlet and very limited shelf space - Bathroom sink is tiny. If you try washing your face water will splatter all over the floor. - Drab room interiors: grey cinder block walls. (A google review I read after our stay accurately described it as a prison cell) - Pillows are lumpy and very uncomfortable - Breakfast: given all of the above; we simply didn’t bother.
