The Godfrey Hotel Chicago

Great hotel, walkable location. Would recommend. I didn’t realize there was no pool when booked, otherwise I would have chosen a hotel with a pool otherwise, but outside of them not having a pool, it was great.

Hotel is normally great but the room lacked basic amenities. I was surprised and disappointed. Also the hotel had elevator issues creating a problem.

The front desk was very nice! Parking sucked over all it was $75 a night for leave in and out parking! The Door man to go up to rooftop bar was a little rude. Rooftop bar was nice but acted the workers acted like we couldn't sit on the coach’s claiming it had to be rsvp but no one sat there the whole night!

Nice hotel and the restaurant in the lobby is great! No room service though & the gym is barely a gym. Hotel security in the lobby for the rooftop bar was rude.

Good place to stay, but I wish they would make the roof top bar more for the actual people staying in the hotel instead of the public. The roof top wasn’t available to us because there was a party.

Only one working elevator, had to wait in line. Next morning, no elevators were working, only the service elevator.

I booked this hotel for the amazing rooftop and location. I was very pleased with the room and the location. We walked to the magnificent mile and a few close restaurants. I was a little confused when we were told the hotel guests needed reservations to access the rooftop bar. There was an event going on, but the rooftop is very large. We were able to walk up the 2nd night .

Hotel was nice. Only negative thing I would say is the valet needs help. There needs to be another person and they need to be more attentive. We were not welcomed when we got there. We carried our own bags up. Then we waited a very long time for them to bring the car out when we left.

Moldy bathroom, poor customer service

It was a nice calm experience but overall I wish they had access to water and snacks. There’s no store on site. You can order over priced snacks via their website and it takes an hour atleast to get to you. I did order snacks and they sent me substitutes that were expired. $13 for a ginger ale and expired gummy fish. The room was dusty and I had to wipe it down myself. It’s extremely loud outside and the windows are not sound proof you will hear sirens all night. There is no real amenity other than yes there’s a rooftop bar that you are urged to make reservations for. It’s also open to the public. There’s a tiny gym as well and that’s it. The spa is always booked and has short hours of operation.

Check in was quick and easy. The staff was very welcoming. The room was clean and warm.

The room was kinda dirty. There was food and crumbs on the floor, some lotion or substance on the bathroom door handle, and all over the room just looked worn out. I’m only giving 3 stars because the staff was really nice and the rest of the hotel looked clean.

We found FINGER NAILS in our room . Clearly not cleaned, tried to get ahold of the manager 4x - no call back. Disgusting.

I would stay at the Godfrey again. I felt very comfortable in my room. I did not see any bugs. The room was clean. It has some minor scratches/bruises/bumps on a few surfaces, but for the most part, it suited all of my needs. Drinking water being provided by the front desk was convenient. I was able to store my bags at the desk at check out until my afternoon flight. Walkable neighborhood, short rideshare ride to everywhere I needed. The rooftop restaurant and bar was nice and convenient. No complaints.

Stayed in the king suite, one TV did not work, smelled like a gas station bathroom and there was blood on the sheets. We got engaged there 9 years ago and it was great, the hotel has gone completely downhill.

Stayed here for four nights! The lobby and rooftop bar are very nice! Drinks at the bar were pricey but very good. Room was a bit outdated and not in “luxury hotel” conditions - bathroom hardware wasn’t fully attached to the wall, wallpaper was peeling/dirty in spots, and we had a bunch of tiny flies in the room. Regardless, hotel staff was very nice.

Our room 717 was so uncomfortably hot we couldn’t sleep. Mind you we didn’t ask for service we just dealt with it so they maybe could have done something. Thermostat was all the way down to 65 and fan on high and we slept with cold towels on us and still couldn’t sleep. This room had drywall mud in the bathroom but overall the room was clean. The rooftop is amazing and food was excellent. Could have sworn the site mentioned a hot tub and when we got there there was not one.

The hotel itself was beautiful! Tasteful decorations, great lighting, room was clean, but the music from the lounge could be heard from any room! Lasted until 2am.

The location was amazing, our King suite was spacious and clean. However, we were surprised the room didn't have a microwave, as we stayed 3 nights and this was very inconvenient. Aa for staffing, we asked for an early check in several days ahead of our trip, as we had to be at the Cubs game by 3:30. We were told that the hotel would let us know if we could not have an early check-in for any reason.. but no one actually let us know that this WAS NOT going to happen on that date, so when we arrived , we were disappointed to hear we had no early check in. Had to change and get ready for the game in the lobby! The front desk staff ( lady) was unapologetically rude about this and short with us. The young lady working the evening shift was the only staff we saw in 3 days there that actually put on a smile and made effort to make us feel welcome. The day shift, not at all. Looked like they didn't like their jobs. A bad reflection on such a nice hotel... A smile and effort goes a long way for repeat customers.

Stained curtains. Fan did not work in bathroom. Central heat/air seemed to be struggling to work in my room yet blasting cold in brothers room. Although a very nice feature was the windows could be opened. However, window in brothers room would not open. Facing alley and wall so that was probably a good thing. Toilet paper holder was falling off the wall. Was surprised at the room conditions since the common areas/restaurant/lobby.

Property is showing it’s age. Gym need a revitalization. Bathroom fixtures were falling out of the walls.

Nice hotel and great location. Bed was super hard and the rooms were noisy though.

The property was underwhelming. The “rooftop” is on the 4th floor out of 11 floors. I would consider that a patio. The restaurant on the first floor was picturesque . Food and drinks were pretty good. The room was my main complaint. The cabinet door beneath the sink in the coffee nook was not aligned correctly. The tile in the bathroom was falling off the wall. There was several strands of hair in the shower on the wall and the floor. I did not have the time to speak with the front desk about the room because I was on time crunch but I would not stay here again.

The window to look outside had a huge beam running diagonally across it. Couldn’t look outside. The bathroom window, which was behind another beam, didn’t allow us to look outside and there was no covering on it. The closet only had a handful of hangers and no dresser to put the rest of our close. We had to live out of our suitcases. The tv channel selection sucked and it had no smart tv. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

Pros: The people were nice. Good service. Comfy bed. Easy pickup/drop off for Uber. Cons: One of the elevators wasn't working one of the nights. It’s very rundown. Not worth $320 a night. Peeling paint, scratchy towels, only half the jets in the shower head worked, fridge was loud, curtains were threadbare in spots and dirty in my room, A/C was very inconsistent from day to day, rooftop bar was rather loud pretty late at night, one small water provided and that’s it.

Dear Godfrey Hotel Management, I am writing to share my deep disappointment following my recent four-night stay at The Godfrey Hotel. As a property that positions itself as a four-star hotel, my experience fell far short of expectations in several key areas. From the moment I arrived, I encountered significant inconvenience. Upon check-in, valet services were unavailable—no one was present to assist with my bags or take my car. When I asked the front desk about it, I was told they didn’t know where the valet was and that they would not take my keys. The staff was dismissive and advised me to either go upstairs and come back later or wait 15–20 minutes until someone returned. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident. Throughout my stay, I consistently experienced the same lack of service and indifference from staff. Each day, I found myself repeatedly going up and down from my room to locate valet service, often waiting excessive amounts of time—on one occasion, nearly 30 minutes—just to drop off my keys. It was extremely frustrating to handle my own luggage and vehicle without any assistance or courtesy typically expected at a hotel of this caliber. Additionally, the cleanliness of the property left much to be desired. When I attempted to get ice, I discovered that the ice machines on my floor were broken. After calling the front desk, I was told I would need to go up or down two floors to find a working one—information that was never communicated upon check-in.

Overall decent trip at this hotel. Only issue was on Saturday I had asked the the front desk at around 10:30AM for room service to come clean and swap our towels and linens. We arrived back at 4:30PM nothing was done. Then around 5:00PM the maid came and said we either let her come clean now or she will be going home for the evening. We just took the towels since we wanted to rest a little in our room. For the Godfrey brand this was slightly disappointing. Felt like we were staying at a lower brand hotel and this gym was very subpar. Edwin was very polite at the front desk.

Front desk staff are soo rude and unresponsive. The sofa bed has body hair on it and we called 3 times and even went down to lobby to pick it up ourselves but could not get clean sheets. The next day our room was not cleaned at all and it was a struggle getting even towels!! STAY AWAY

I have stayed here previously without my family….My children loved it. It’s convenient you can walk to the Riverwalk. The staff were amazing. Very accommodating for my daughter who wanted fresh towels daily. I will be back soon and prices were very good compared to Magnificent Mile which is a 5 min drive!

The ladies in the reception area were wonderful! Extremely helpful and friendly.

We booked the hotel for our Anniversary trip , it was nothing but disappointment. First night we got there it was a little chilly so we called the front desk and asked for extra blankets the response was that they didn’t have any left . The next day on the way back from our outing we stopped by the front the desk and asked for blankets and this was early afternoon. We were told that it was going to be sent to the room - an hour later we called the front desk and asked again same response , another hour passed we called again and asked AGAIN it was absolutely ridiculous and then they showed up with a sheet not a blanket . The next day we decided to go enjoy the rooftop since we are in the hotel and we see a lot people coming for it - my husband and I decided to go and have a drink and appetizer. The hostess was rude and sat on a corner table telling us that they are all book mind you this is Sunday .we decided to leave and go to another roof top . We couldn’t even enjoy the hotel amenities because the staff didn’t care about the hotel guests. They literally ruined our stay and were very nonchalant about the client service , some of them seem to be in the wrong industry. This will be the last time we will stay in this place , save yourself time and money and look for another location

Friendly Staff, great views from many of the rooms, central location with plenty of activities in walking distance, including: Harry Careys & Three Dots & a Dash. We booked last minute and scored a great room at an even better price.

This hotel was the perfect spot to downtown Chicago. Food , shopping etc within walking distance.

We like to stay at Godfrey whenever we are in Chicago. Close to Michigan Avenue. Beautiful rooms. Amazing rooftop bar/restaurant.

This was our first time in Chicago and coming from a less populated area, we were unsure about the safety of parking in particular. The parking garage was safe and secure, which put ours minds at ease. The hotel is conveniently located and walkable to most anything you want to see. The room was bigger than I expected and comfortable. Chicago is a beautiful, diverse city and we really enjoyed our trip and stay!

Great hotel! Love the concept. Bonvoy member. My biggest complaint was the slow service in the restaurant. Also, my dry cleaning was lost - they are still looking for it. Beds were heavenly! Spacious bathroom.

No onsite dining was available in June. Best we could get was a basket full of snacks. The restaurants were closed for private events. For such a highly rated hotel with high rates the available amenities were very lackluster.

The hotel was lovely, and I enjoyed my stay. The hotel was very clean and quiet which is what I enjoy the most. However, the food at the roof top restaurant was terrible and not worth the price. I got the Godfrey burger, and the meat had a weird after test, the bread was dry, and the steak tacos were dry too. Our waitress was not friendly and seemed like she did not interact my party like the others. The drinks are pretty good but strong. Overall, don’t waste your money there.

Didn't use the spa or the lounge. The Mediterranean restaurant was excellent.

We have stayed at this location several times in the past and our only complaints are that the ice machine was not working on our floor, there is only one robe in our room and the adjoining restaurant is now closed. We do plan on staying here again.
