Apprehensive after a less than satisfactory stay at this chain's sister property in Edinburgh but Dundee Malmaison was streets ahead in every department. From check in to check out all was handled smoothly by staff. Hotel has an excellent location with magnificent views marred a bit by scaffolding to maintain the windows. Some prior notice other than on the front of the hotel would have been appreciated! Its conversion from the derelict Tay Hotel 10 years ago is beginning to look a little tired in places with general wear and tear. Could do with a spruce up all round. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Nice use of an old building. Parking is difficult until you know the local system. Be aware that the nearest car park is just within a low emission zone and cameras pick you up. Most car parks are free after 6pm until 8 am. In the day the day they are expensive.

If you're going to use the sentence "sorry if we are too cool for you" on the front desk maybe actually make sure the hotel is up to par. The elevators take almost two minutes to open once they reach the floor...you get to your floor (ours was 3rd) and the floor to get to your room is sooo uneven and squeaky, thank goodness we hadn't had a drink 😂 I checked in online for two persons however the room was set up for only one. The squeaky floors didn't end there as the room was just as bad. The artwork for the rooms is also slightly questionable I will add. The wardrobes in the room have to be opened in a certain order or the door will get jammed and won't open and the whole hotel it's just overall very very old (not in a good way). We were only greeted once at the front desk once which was when we checked in, when we were checking out in the morning the lady was on the phone so we handed over our keycard and as we turned to leave we were quite abruptly told to "stay there and wait" until she could check if there was anything outstanding on our account, understandable...however nicer ways to go about this. Even Premier Inn a three star hotel will greet the guests everytime they leave and enter the hotel...much better service expexcted from what is supposedly a four star hotel. Not to mention their attitude on cash payments...no cash will be accepted at this hotel and they are even Tory enough to call it 'Dirty' and according to them that means they are just "too cool" 💀

The hotel is in an excellent location, close to the train station, and there is a car park across the road. The staff were friendly, particularly those in the bar. The room was clean. On the negative side, the room was noisy due to neighbouring pubs and the breakfast, while decent, was not worth the price.

The stay was great. Centrally located for everything. Staff were also incredibly helpful. Very good value for money. However, charging £25/night for one small dog (stayed two nights) cannot be justified in my opinion. There is no way the room would be deep cleaned and it cost that much. The room was left as clean as we found it. This charge needs to be looked at by HQ. If rooms are classed as dog friendly then there should be no additional charges.

We got a disabled room and it had a small Of urine in the toilet. We had no time to complain as we had an appointment. Also key hard did not work in the evening and I had to go to reception twice to resolve. It was resolved by the guy at reception running to my room and using his key card extremely dirty windows as well

Hotel as you come in and around the building etc is stunning. We had the signature suite and was lovely looking at it when first arrived. Later found dusty beding and show pillows. Dirty wool like through over on the bed. Human hairs all over the bedding and sleep pillows. Rooms were far to hot , bathroom was nice apart from the shower area black and dirty with mould. Bathroom blinds were covered in dust. Main door for entrance for our room couldn’t close properly as the hatch on the door was hanging off, reported this but nobody appeared. White stains on purple headboard and the 2 seater sofa. Bed mattress was so uncomfortable it’s unbelievable. Worst sleep ever . At £250 a night it’s totally unacceptable. Food was amazing best steak we’ve ever had. But very over priced for a restaurant in Dundee let’s put it that way. We also went out for a cigarette whilst having a drink and a member of staff from the bar area ran out like a wild dog thinking we walked out and wasn’t going to pay. Hotel rooms need freshened up especially the signature suite. I was a domestic in Ninewells for 9 half years and for guests expected to pay that kind of money for one night is unacceptable.

We have stayed at the Malmaison in Dundee several times before and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately we were disappointed with this particular stay on 4/5/25 we were allocated room 521 -: 1-: It was a small, dark room which looked out onto the wall of the next building which is very close. 2-: The shower head had black mould on it which is totally unacceptable. 3-: The wash basin was leaking from underneath it. 4-: The heat in the room was unbearable and uncomfortable, so much so we hardly slept. The food we had was excellent as was the service from staff in the dining room and in the bar area.

The hotel is nice the decor retro, the rooms however were very dark. The shower was great however the toilet cistern leaked water, took a bit of sorting. The bathroom cleanliness could have been better. Breakfast was excellent.

Have stayed here many times and as always the staff are so friendly and helpful. Cleanliness wise, the halls and room carpets really needed thorough vacuuming. The air conditioning unit was very temperamental with a flashing bright green light when trying to sleep

Good value for money, but overall felt a little dated and in need of some TLC. Huge room with a comfy bed, but on a main road and very noisy (literally at the main airport bus stop which is in operation all through the night) with ineffective air conditioning and an over hot bathroom. Check in and restaurant staff were pleasant but the front desk attendant when we left literally couldn’t have cared less and barely looked up. Ok for one or two nights but could be better.

Booked a cosy double but when entering the room given all you could hear were fans from outside the window, looking out you could see the fans too, we then went to speak to the reception staff who thought giving me the room next door may have made a difference but infact the noise from the fans was worse, she stated it’s because you booked a cosy double, I replied saying it shouldn’t matter what room I booked I shouldn’t expect to be awake all night with fans running outside the windows! Apparently she upgraded us to 319, the room was no different with the smallest bathroom I have ever been in and I stay in hotels a lot with my job. On a plus side the breakfast and breakfast staff were lovely.

Was in room 214, room was noisy due to being directly above bar which played loud music until 2am. This room was also immediately beside entrance to floor so lots of foot traffic outside door coming and going causing noise. Further more the room appeared to have a lot of noise from the buildings pipework as there was regular loud drainage noises every mins through the the day/night. Room clean but pillows too soft and unsupportive... Mattress and duvet comfortable. Due to not returning to room until after 11pm and the us having unpacked etc we chose to tolerate issues rather than ask for a move. At check out when staff member asked if stay was good issues were reported with minimal apology voiced and then she asked if 'otherwise, your stay was ok?'. Not good enough.

The twin room was tired and dark - brighter bulbs in the main lights would be a big help to find things as the walls and furnishings are all dark too! It was cold on arrival, the heating had to be switched on at reception and then made so much noise I had to turn it off to sleep. This was an ongoing issue I was told - so why let the room? Clean bathroom, just nowhere to hang anything.

Everything about the hotel appeared fine it is absolutely stunning, but it’s an old refurbished hotel and the floorboards creek badly. It’s impossible to move about the room without waking your roommate The toilet cistern also made an unearthly noise. Overall a very disturbed sleep. In the mirning the very overpriced breakfast was also a disappointment. morning

Had to ask again for an additional bed as this had been forgotten about. Staff who came to help were wonderful and gave us good advice. In the morning we had to for quite a while to order breakfast abd ask staff to fill the coffee machine and the milk alternatives. Most of the staff were so friendly and chatty.

This is a very cool and chic hotel in a very convenient location, right across from the train station which also has a bus stop. Also, near the water and a park. The restaurant was great. The staff was also lovely, so nice and helpful. My first trip to Scotland and I loved it. Thank you!

I have an outstanding amount that the hotel took from me and are still trying to get it back , although the room was pre paid and I never spent any money there . I’ve made three calls to the hotel and it’s still not resolved . Very unhappy

We had to wait ages for a drink in the bar even though it was quiet. They run out of food off the menu eat in the Brasserie restaurant. When food did come out it wasn’t what I would expect for the price

On arrival greeted well and check in seamless. Lift to room was in need of some tlc. The room was initially ok without doing a four in a bed style check. On returning in the evening when i went for s shower the complementary body wash had been topped up with water not what you'd expect at all. During the night the lights within the wardrobe kept going on and off the bulbs making odd buzzing sounds. I did report this on leaving but the room attendant didnt appear to understand me. The room was exttemely hot during the night with the bed not particularly comfortable. Breakfast was a disaster. Waited 20 mins between being seated and ordering. Food was average, however the coffee/ tea machine was broken so waiting staff were making drinks. We ordered when food arrived half an hour later we had to ask again. With only 2 staff and a girl.who appeared to be of a higher position (who did nothing to help) it was a big ask.

A special trip to Dundee and this hotel made us feel like we could relax in comfort. The restaurant and bar were lovely however as we were looking for vegan options these were very limited and so we were out and about for breakfast and dinner. The staff throughout were absolutely excellent and we would love to return again.
