We’ve stayed at the Holbrooke Hotel many times while visiting family in grass valley. The building itself is charming with a lot of character and the rooms simple, clean, and elegant. The bar is stand out with always excellent cocktails (check out whatever cocktail is on draft) but the food is the best in the area. You’re also on the heart of the few blocks that make up downtown grass valley.

Kind of a cute boutique type hotel. And the rooms were newly renovated and clean. The restaurant was very trendy, but a little expensive. Parking was insufficient. Overall, nice experience, but for the price I would expect maybe a fridge or a TV in the room. It all depends on what you are after, I suppose.

We booked this hotel last minute and was pleasantly surprised a room was available. Our check in process was quick and easy and our room was extremely nice and inviting. We had a delicious dinner at the Golden Gate Saloon located inside the hotel. Super friendly staff! We can't wait to come back.

This hotel is excellent. It’s got the charm and sophistication that you would expect from a great boutique hotel and more. We booked two rooms for four guests and it was cozy, clean and the decor was everything we’d been looking for. It’s steps from great food and an awesome bar right on the premises. The gift shop on property is amazing. I spent a lot! It was really hard not to. Enjoy the Holbrook, we will be back many times I am sure.

The hotel is historic and really nice like looking. The bed was comfy, albeit too mushy. There was no tv in the room, which was unexpected. The sink in the room had virtually no water pressure and the cold handle didn’t work. But the biggest issue…. The walls are incredibly thin. You can hear absolutely everything around your room… maybe that’s why there aren’t tvs!? Come with earplugs and your devices if you want in room entertainment.

Not our first time in Grass Valley. We wanted to check out this reno and see for ourselves. That these folks scored highly on the reno and the decoration and style of the place is a given. It's spectacular. About comfort: the room we got was really small and coming from a roadtrip of 7 days, it gets crowded really fast with several bags. No fridge or microwaver in the room which is a big minus when you travel by car. There is hardly any closet space to hang things. the sink is in the bedroom instead of the bathroom. The bed was too soft for my taste, but I can live with that. We were on the ground floor, one window was painted shut so we could not open it, the other one could open but it did not feel safe considering the street level. Also no mosquito screen. For the price paid ($210), I think there should be more comfort offered. And yes, I understand that it is difficult to create space when there is none to begin with!

The main hotel is lovely. I got places out in the carriage house, separate from the main hotel. Everyone someone ran water or flushed a toilet it sounded as if waves were crashing on my head. The people next door were definitely on drugs and up all night. I tried the front desk but no one there to answer at 3:30am - shocker. Then to top it off- 6:30 am recycling and trash trucks right outside my window. Needless to say I got zero sleep. Was hoping for something amazing. This was NOT it.

This was our first time to Grass Valley and the Holbrooke Hotel. It came highly recommended by a friend. The property, amenities and restaurants/bars were great! Onsite staff were also wonderful! From the check-in to room requests and the interactions with servers/bartenders - all were wonderful! The only complaint we have is regarding the room temperatures/thermostat. You can't adjust the temperature in your room as there was no thermostat. Nor were we able to open our windows as they were painted shut. It was very hot in our room and due to this we didn't get much sleep. In addition, all should be aware about booking through a 3rd party. In booking our reservations through a third party, we were placed in the Pursell House and not the main Holbrooke building. This is not something that is correctly described when booking on 3rd party sites. It is correctly described on the Holbrooke's website. In addition, you are charged a $15 amenity fee onsite if booking through a 3rd party which adds to the cost. Best to book directly with the Hotel!

Awesome property, staff and location. Very stylish and taken care of and access to all the town has to offer. Good food and adjoining store. The only main bummer was the rooms have zero sound proofing. We could practically hear the people breathing in the room next door and so it was tough to sleep soundly

We did a photo shoot in your location in the King suite and it was amazing!!! The staff especially Amanda were out of this world helpful. Of course after I spent the night in this beautiful room and enjoyed the bath, bottle of wine and the quietness of this luxury, beautiful room. The little touches like water next to the bed and crisp clean sheets made all the difference. Very clean and very unique experience in this historical hotel. Will come back again with my hubby. The restaurant was amazing! The staff very kind and helpful. Loved the bartender... makes a mean Manhattan!!

The Holbrooke Hotel is beautiful. The rooms were very clean and the staff were so nice and welcoming. The food and drinks at the restaurant were delicious and the ambiance was amazing. The customers varied in ages and aesthetic making the space very welcoming and comfortable. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and extremely helpful! We stayed in the Purcell King and it was peaceful. We didn’t have issues with noise (but I also sleep with ear plugs). I knew there wasn’t a tv when I booked, and my boyfriend and I enjoyed not having it. I didn’t have to deal with neighbors blasting their tvs! It was truly a wonderful and perfect stay, we will be coming back for sure!

Not a whole lot to do in GV, but we stayed at the Holbrooke as my wife is a fan of anything paranormal. The hotel is immaculate, well-kept, and worth staying at. The only downside to GV is that everything closes early. 9 PM is the last call for dinner on a Friday night, and we ended up with pizza, which was very good. There are a few bars that stay open later. Funny thing, our room had an old radio on a table. After check-in, when we got to the room, I turned on a radio that was on a table and tried to tune to any station, and all I heard was static. We went out and returned to our room at about 1 AM. When we opened the door, the radio was playing like old 1920s music, clear. Also, there is a tall dresser with four books on it. In the morning, one of the books was pulled out. We will stay there again.

The hotel is located in the heart of town, within walking distance of shops and a variety of eateries to suit one’s palate and budget. Joachim, the front desk clerk, was very welcoming. After 4 hours on the road, I looked forward to a good night’s sleep, which is not always attainable for me, especially in an unfamiliar setting. However, the bed and bedding felt comfortable and fresh. I would give the room top rating for cleanliness. The decor of the room was simple but elegant, in the theme of gold country era, with romantic tones. I had to bring my little Maltese with me and greatly appreciated that it was dog friendly. Our room was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. Property is very well kept. Delicious coffee and lite yummy breakfast. Location, location. Great shopping, food and spirits all in walking distance. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

This is a beautiful hotel with old style charm and character. Large parking area behind the hotel, and a carriage house behind the hotel with lovely rooms. Off the main lobby is a beautiful bar/ lounge area. The restaurant area and larger meeting/ banquet rooms are off the lobby also. Located in the middle of a quaint downtown area. There are lots of shops and cafes to wonder and visit. I would definitely stay here again.

This was a perfect overnight for attending a concert in Grass Valley. Just a block from the venue, nice dinner menu and cocktails, and a lovely patio that happened to feature a Celtic music group that evening.

Very nice stay. We felt the breakfast offering was poor given that breakfast was included. Each day there was a small as one and a potato and egg frittata. Self serve. Coffee was good but would have been nice to have fruit, granola and other offerings.

We’ve stayed at the Holbrooke Hotel many times while visiting family in grass valley. The building itself is charming with a lot of character and the rooms simple, clean, and elegant. The bar is stand out with always excellent cocktails (check out whatever cocktail is on draft) but the food is the best in the area. You’re also on the heart of the few blocks that make up downtown grass valley.

The room was good - clean and luxurious bed, excellent lighting, clean towels, soap and lotion provided, the shower curtain looked mildewy. The amenity fee covered water bottles and wifi. Onsite dining options are dinner only, by reservation, with an abbreviated menu. Very loud music, loud bar/cocktail hour action. Breakfast is really bad - brewed coffee and/or tea, no juice, and a extremely limited number of scones, by 8.30, only 1 was left. in-room coffee cups were dirty.

If was wonderful staying in a beautiful restored historic hotel. The downfall was thin walls in the “ mansion” where our room was. Also, the restaurant was very expensive and not a big selection of entrées. Staff was wonderful & very accommodating to our needs.

Great place to stay in downtown Grass Valley. The rooms are nice and clean. Service was great. Breakfast was just OK. Scones are so so and the egg dish was the same four mornings in a row. However, there’s a great little coffee shop/bakery across the street. Great bar. Nice restaurant. Lots of restaurants in downtown and great shopping. We will visit again.

We booked this hotel last minute and was pleasantly surprised a room was available. Our check in process was quick and easy and our room was extremely nice and inviting. We had a delicious dinner at the Golden Gate Saloon located inside the hotel. Super friendly staff! We can't wait to come back.

Overall it was a great experience. The hotel is in a great location, although parking is a lottery. The room itself was lovely but stuffy and the air conditioning was not helpful. Had the perfect place right off the back with a walk up and small porch. It was the downtown farmer's market with bands and vendors and a quick walk from the hotel. Wonderful stay!
