The Ridge

The website sais nothing about luggage storage so I tried calling the front desk and they didn’t answer. I Googled it and found Reddit said they did have storage, so I made plans for it. The night before my trip I got a text message from them that said no luggage storage, and a “virtual” front desk.. I remade my travel plans. When I arrived there was a man behind the front desk, paying atteto his twittering, and when I asked, he said there was luggage storage from 9:00am to 3:00pm. I told him this contradicted their message. He said, oh yeah, someone needs to fix that. The next morning the front desk was empty.

Perfect location for exploring the Lower East side. Easy subway access. Staff were very helpful as we needed to leave bags while we toured on our last day. Lobby is to always staffed but they have a sister hotel nearby so they send staff over to assist as needed. Room was small but perfect. Toiletries are barebones but less wasteful so I am good with that. Only disappointment was the roof top was under renovation so didn’t get to see it. Oh well, next time!

Great little hotel. Nice, clean and queen bed room is decent size. Comfortable beds and pillows. BUT 4 stars because they have a "virtual" check in process AND they can only hold your bags from 8AM-3PM. This was not mentioned anywhere on Expedia or their website. It was a total surprise after we paid a non-refundable rate through Expedia. Things worked out, with minimum stress, but I recommend having this information right front and center.

The hotel has a beautiful rooftop. It’s the most fully automated check-in hotel I’ve experienced—you’re required to register online before arrival to receive your entry code and stay details. While they do have front desk staff, they don’t seem to handle check-ins directly. If you arrive late without registering online, you may run into some issues since the front desk isn’t staffed 24/7. The rooms are small but come with a fridge and microwave, facing a view of the East Village. The TV isn’t able to stream, so it’s more of a classic “movie night” experience with limited options. However, the real highlight is the rooftop, where you can get a distant view of the Empire State Building. The flooring is made of old wooden planks—somewhat decayed, creaky underfoot, and adding a unique charm. That said, be cautious with kids; my child was playing with a toy car on the floor and accidentally got scratched by an exposed nail from the old wood, leaving a mark that lasted about a week. The first floor has 24-hour K-cup coffee available, and the hotel is close to iconic spots like Katz’s Deli and Russ & Daughters. But what I enjoyed the most was the rooftop—it adds a lot of value to the overall experience, making this a very cost-effective hotel choice.

Really nice place and will be a choice for my frequent NYC stays in the future. Easy accessibility to public transportation, restaurants and shopping. Room was clean and had a good sized fridge and microwave and was quiet. I didn’t give it 5 stars because their rooftop deck, which is highlighted in their description of the property, which I was looking forward to using, was closed for maintenance and closed before I reserved and never mentioned in the confirmation email. Wouldn’t have changed my mind about staying there, but would’ve appreciated knowing about it beforehand.

This hotel is unique because it is not the traditional hotel. We wanted some where to stay without the cost of the expensive amenities that we would not have used while visiting New York. It was a clean room, very private and easy to get to. We did a lot of sightseeing which meant we were out 80% of the day and just used the hotel to sleep and clean up. It was perfect! There are several restaurants, cafes, and parks to walk through. If you have a vehicle, plan on using a garage, there is no hotel parking. I will definitely be visiting the Ridge hotel again.

Jasmine was very helpful. Rooms are small but clean and efficient with great views. 1 block from the famous Katz deli, and a few blocks from the always fun saint marks place. Definitely check out the roof for great pictures and a cool hang out spot.

The hotel was in a perfect location. The subway was right across the street which made it easy to get around. The rooms were clean and hotel was quiet. The rooftop had such a pretty view. Will be coming back!

Location was great, AC was nice and cold, shower was hot and roomy for Manhattan. No hand soap stocked, limited staffing, and the room had ants.

It was good except for the roach crawling on the wall. Please clean a little better

Very easy check in and front desk was able to hold my luggage until the room was ready, which was nice. Room was clean, pretty spacious for NY and a nice clean bathroom. It had a nice vibe and I could walk everywhere around Lower East Side, SoHo and Greenwich.

I’ve stayed here many times and the rooms are small but clean and comfortable. The location is great, so convenient to the East Village, LES, Chinatown, even SoHo and Little Italy if you like to walk. Or the F train is on the corner. Not fancy but has everything you need. Self check-in is easy.

I could not stay here! It was pretty clear there was blood on the walls which you can see in the pictures! The room looked nothing like the pictures, the room was absolutely disgusting!

Had to request a new sheet. Noisy until wee hours, bed rickety w/ sharp edges, toilet cover loose, flooring in bad shape, hair dryer off wall, shampoo dispenser in shower was taped to the wall - disaster overall.

There was no air conditioning, so it was unpleasantly warm in the room. I can't imagine staying here in the summer. It would be unbearable. A small unit in the room would be a massive improvement, especially since it is small, it wouldn't take much to cool it off.

Main issue was too much noise from neighbors - walls are very thin and there was an infant crying all night. Very convenient and clean, though.

The hotel was affordable and did its job. Just that if you’re facing the Main Street, you might hear the hustle and bustle of the cars on the street. For the price thought and location, I’d book again.

Small room but NICEST BATHROOM IVE seen. GREAT BED. Comes with microwave, fridge. LOCATED RIGHT BY KATZ DELI. Perfect for going to bars or late night eating. Would 100% stay again.

There was no functioning AC in our room, so it was very hot. The hotel refunded one of our two nights. Since there is no staff on premises, things like this can be problematic.

Overall it was a great place but you do have a bar next door so on weekends it does get loud if you get a room facing the street.

The only thing that did not meet my expectations was the bed. It was not soft or springy in any way. Kind of like lying on slightly padded cardboard. Other than that contactless check in was great, room was clean, had everything I needed. Close to subway, restaurants, etc.

Glad to see there was someone at the front desk almost every time we went in or out. Wish I had been able to find the information about the microwave and fridge in my room (happy it was there but wished I had known… I looked before my trip)

This hotel is set up as a no-receptionist, all-electronic access property. The problem I encountered were several: the first email I received with my room and access code provided an access code but no room number. I assumed the updated email would arrive while I was in transit but it did not. By the time I arrived, I had to call the phone # provided to request my room number - but the call went straight to voicemail. I was called back within a few minutes, but this was not a seamless experience. The lobby area (small) led to a hallway with my room - which a maintenance person showed me. The room - small but workable for NY given the reasonable price ($250) was 92 degrees (yes, ninety two). I turned the AC on, went elsewhere for a 2-hr dinner, returned and the room as still 92 degrees. I texted the contact number and was told someone would be there in 10 minutes to fix things. A different maintenance person arrived and told me "the building is old so there is only Heat (winter) and AC (summer) so you need to turn it off and open the window." So I slept in a ground floor room with the window cracked (not ideal or completely safe). The bed was comfortable, the room was workable although the shower head was lousy (full pressure but uneven stream). I will not be staying here again - too much stress and attention to accommodations.

The hotel itself is moderately fine. The drains don't drain very well so expect water to puddle up in the sink and shower. Also the climate control doesn't work so you need to rely on window AC units since the rooms get unbearably hot. During our stay we also had the fire alarm pulled at 1AM for no good reason, which normally is just an inconvenience. However, after the fire department arrived and found nothing amiss, the staff member at the front desk was unable to surpress the alarm. The fire chief repeatedly told him that it was the responsibility of whomever is attending the front desk (note that this is one of those 'virtual front-desk' locations) to have knowledge of the fire warning system. When questions were asked of him by other hotel guests, he was extremely rude and talked back to people, saying that this was not part of his job. Hotels are obviously expensive in New York, but if you are looking for anything more than a bed to sleep in with a side of rude staff members, you might want to look elsewhere.

This hotel was amazing. The staff was accommodating and had no issues during my stay. There were local places to eat and shopping within walking distance of the hotel. Complimentary coffee and snacks daily. Safe and secure hotel.

Loved the location and staff

This was a nightmare experience from check in to check out. I will never return. The receptionist was completely unhelpful and honestly we would have been way better off at a YMCA. The hotel was dirty, poorly lit, full of people screaming all through the night either at each other or on the phone. It felt dangerous because of their key pad system and I couldn’t believe that this hotel is able to stay open. I caution everyone not to stay here.

The Ridge Hotel was a lovely hotel to stay for our 12 days trip. The view we had from our room was as incredible as it was from the rooftop. The nearby Metro station was only a minute away and we were perfectly able to get nearly anywhere without many changes and complications. The staff was lovely and the room was small but very nice. Would always come back here!

Great property for the price, loved how easy it was to check in, and the location

The property is conveniently located nearly Soho and Chinatown and a very walkable distance to Union Square. The room really only had what you needed - a bed and a bathroom - which is perfect for a short 1-2 night stay. The only thing is that Houston St gets pretty loud in the nighttime so I highly recommend ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.

Small room but modern, comfortable bed and pillows, decent size bathroom. Subway entrance very close making for an extremely easier commute from/to JFK airport. Great location for city activities.
