First time at a virgin property, surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It’s upscale without being stuffy and the staff go above to make your stay pleasant. We utilized the umbrellas at the entrance on a drizzly afternoon and found them a great offering. We also had a night cap at the commons club every night. The bar staff were welcoming and I enjoyed the elderflower forward special menu of the month. Would stay again.

I really liked my room, and it was clean. The gym is really nice and open 24 hours (ski and rowing machine, bike). The hotel is at a great location and walking distance to Princess Street, both of the main castles, lots of shopping, and a great museum.

Fabulous Hotel. Staff were amazing from when we pulled up and helped us with bags to when we left days later. Hotel itself was beautifully decorated and the rooms had everything we needed. Bed was super comfy and I got a fantastic sleep after huge days of sightseeing. Only down side is no parking (the car park is a public car park down the hill about ten minutes walk, but this is normal for the area). Highly recommend.

Room and hotel are nice in general. However, there were long hairs left from the previous guests. Also there was blood stain on the sheets. I didn't want to move my clothes due to short stay but it was awful.

Wonderful stay at a beautiful hotel! Facilities were great, staff was also great. Used the gym, explored the common areas, had drinks upstairs at the Common Club and dined in the Common Club downstairs. Few little issues with the room and housekeeping—stayed in the grand chamber queen suite—bedroom had no door so if you are in the living room watching tv with the lights on the person in the bedroom be kept awake. The big nespresso machine in the room kept breaking—did not work most of the time we were there. Housekeeping a little inconsistent with turndown and replenishing supplies even when we left a note, and there were quite a few dust bunnies in the closet & under the closet and sink, and the wall against the sink still had toothpaste splashes from the previous occupants. Overall were not deal breakers and room was generally spotless and lovely. Would definitely return! Location also absolutely perfect.

An incredible hotel from the moment we arrived. Wonderful staff who couldn't be more helpful. Bedroom was spectacular and possibly the cleanest hotel bathroom I have seen. Bed was a world of luxury which was a delight to sink into after a day of walking around the city. Brilliant location right in the heart of the old city within walking distance to all main sites and restaurants.

Beautiful, clean, and roomy accommodations. I particularly like that there was a hand shower provided. Excellent Location for sightseeing on the Royal Mile. Helpful staff including one gentleman who was ready with directions to the nearest optician when I broke my glasses. Good breakfast buffet and quiet nighttime bar with great negronis.

Lovely greeting in hotel , really nice looking shared areas lift and corridors. Room a little small but the biggest problem was the noise pollution. There was no warning when booking or checking in that the room is opposite a busy bar with rowdy customers until 3am !! The balcony door and windows are not sealed well enough to stop it feeling like you’re trying to sleep inside the busy bar. Horribly loud until the early hours with very little sleep. We the made a discovery of a cigarette dimp down the side of the bed a phone fell down. Disgusting. Not what you expect from a 5 star hotel !!

Good location - though it was extremely busy due to the Fringe Festival. The room was not well-designed. You walked into the bathroom from the front door and had to walk through that to get to the bedroom. Just a very unusual and unfriendly layout.

The hotel itself has a nearly perfect location just off the Royal Mile. It’s a very cool and trendy hotel. We really love the design. There were two things that took away from the enjoyment of our stay. Firstly, every night we stayed at the hotel. There was a wildly loud wedding or party going on in the event space that lasted deep into the night that seriously disturbed the enjoyment of being able to sleep comfortably in the rooms. We had rented three rooms and all of them were directly up against the event space and it was really disappointing. Secondly, we died at the Commons club and unfortunately it was likely the worst experience of all the restaurants we enjoyed while in Edinburgh. The service was great. The ambience was perfect, but the food was just subpar. I would happily stay at the hotel again and request a room much further away from the adjoining church venue and simply take a pass on the commons club for eating. The staff were super friendly and always helpful and the vibe of the hotel is really special. I hate giving it anything less than a top review but having a comfortable place to sleep, that’s relatively quiet feels like it should be a necessity.

If you are in Edinburgh for a short time and don’t mind pounding music at night, don’t plan to unpack your suitcase, this hotel might be for you. Otherwise, keep reading. I had booked a Grand King Chamber Room. At first we were given a room, in which the entrance area doubled for a powder room and had a narrow closet with a one drawer. There was no space to open our two suitcases, no dresser. We complained. I suspect that the room was not Grand Chamber King Room. Then the next day we were moved to a larger room. The larger room had two narrow closets with a sink vanity between them. Oh, the ingenuity of the modern design! I’d make the architect stay in this room for three month as punishment. The closets had a single drawer and did not have proper doors, but see through curtains. In the room, the bed was comfortable and the bed linens were fine. There was ONE night table with no drawers, so the surface got cluttered with our stuff. There is no dresser or any kind, so there is no place to put your clothes. We only had one drawer each in the hallway closets. The other side of the bed had a sofa attached. Since it doubled as a night table, it immediately got cluttered and couldn’t be used to sit on. Had we even tried to sit on it, the small table in front of it was positioned in such a way that was hard to squeeze in. Also, the bed was so close to the wall on the night table side, that one has to be skinny to squeeze in. Otherwise, you’d have to dive in on the bed.

Reason I gave it 1 star and would never go back is the neighbor "underbelly cowgate" next door which is an open air nightclub that starts THROBBING Teckno music at midnight and does not close down till 5 am. You will hear thumping base notes all night long without more than a 20 second break! Find somewhere else to stay if you value your sleep.

It is 1 street off the royal mile. Not a 4 star hotel in my opinion. The bathrooms are terrible. It’s like the bathrooms on a cruise ship room. when you enter the rooms the sink is right at the door and there’s a separate toilet room with no sink and shower stall, very inconvenient. Very little amenities in the rooms. It does not have a grand hotel feel whatsoever. If you arrive in a car the place you have to park is far away especially at night time. Of course they’ll valet but it’s over $50 extra American!

The hotel has beautiful and modern design, great convenient location in the old town, within a walking distance to the castle and the Royal mile. However, the rooms are extremely small almost claustrophobic. The photos on the web are very deceptive giving the impression of spacious rooms. Otherwise, the bed was very comfortable, the amenities were nice but minimal.

Funky hotel a minutes walk from the royal mile. Great service, nothing to complain about other that the noisy neighbours. Nightclub at the back had thudding music until 3am. By window had two sets of double glazing but it’s the thudding that reverberates the building and I was 8 floors up. Ask for a room at the other side of the hotel if you have trouble sleeping

Not as pictured, I booked the chamber terrace room and it was not at all as pictured. Our "terrace" was on the 1st floor which is 5 floors below ground level and was a cement wall. The hotel was in a good location for walking to and from things so that part was good, but I paid extra for a terrace to sit and take in the views and instead got a cement wall. Be aware that if you are booking a terrace room you need to call and ask for one above the 6th floor. The lobby is on the 6th floor and every floor under 6 is below the road. Hotel also has no parking which isn't their fault, we were able to find a parking garage within half a mile so we used that. Overall the hotel was clean, staff was kind, location was great, just bummed that we paid extra for something in a picture that was not at all what the reality was.

This was our first trip to Scotland and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice with the Virgin Hotel. From the moment we checked in with Connor handling our luggage, to every concierge helping us navigate the city; the service/experience was incredible. This was also our first stay at a Virgin Hotel and it will not be our last. We are doing more international travel in the future and Virgin Hotels will be our first choice.

Amazing stay at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh! The location was super convenient in the heart of the old town by Victoria Street, and it felt super safe. The decor was tasteful and had a bit of quirky fun personality, and the room was equipped with everything we could possibly need. The service from everyone was fantastic and a special shoutout to Connor who went above and beyond. We ate at Eve during our stay and the service there was incredible as well and food was 10/10.

The checkin was easy and our room was ready (at 10am!).Our room was comfortable and well laid out. The shower was easy to use and the water nice and hot. The towels were large and absorbant. The staff was astounding. Everyone was extremelly friendly yet professional, and helpful.They couldn't do enough for the guests. They even brought the manager's black lab out to visit for us! The location is very handy to get to sites of interest.

Great hotel in a great location! Some small issues with some staff (concierge pointing us to the exit and not helping when we were noticeably struggling with luggage, concierge telling us he had no idea where we could go hear Scottish music and walking away from us, having to chase down a server to order breakfast each morning, hotel staff telling us we couldn’t ride with them in the elevator even though there was room, front desk locking us out of our room at 11am even though they told us we had late checkout at 2pm ), but when we pointed it out to them they corrected the issues. Other staff including the doorman and housekeeping were exceptional! Recommend they tell guests that they test the fire alarms every Monday between 10-11am. Fortunately housekeeping staff stopped us as we were running out of the hotel because the alarm was going off.

The rooms are beautiful and the property is well located and well decorated. However, it was severely understaffed from the concierge desk, to the check-in desk, to the bar. I waited a long time at every juncture (was particularly stressful when I needed my car parked), which was a big surprise for the price paid.

The location was convenient, but we had a bad experience with the staff. We did valet parking, but forgot something in the car that we absolutely needed. They didn’t have a valet person at the time so the front desk employee, Beata, gave us the car key, but did not give us good directions to find the car nor did she provide a map. Another employee tried to give us a map, but she waived him off. It seemed that we were bothering her and wasting her time. So we were searching for their car garage at 12 midnight for an hour without success. We came back to the hotel quite angry. THEN she provided a map with directions! Why didn’t she do that in the first place! She denied not offering us a map to begin with. Another employee, Harris, was so kind to walk us to the car garage which was 10 min away. Craig the concierge was 5 star, amazing. Then the front staff was great but never texted us when our room was ready like they said they would, then the next day we saw new arrivals getting champagne on check in, where was ours?? End of the day it was amazing, but small staff issues removed the 5 star and brought it down to a 4 a 4.5 with the exception of the concierge, who again was amazing.

Dinner at 9 on the Sun- I spotted beef wellington being served to another customer so asked for that - only after it was ordered were we told it would take 45 mins to make and that kitchen staff were held up -bit of a guilt trip to be fair and would have chosen something else if I had known it took this long . breakfast the following morning waited nearly an hour to be served cooked breakfast and I had to chase it - was served fried eggs instead of scrambled. We stayed with this hotel previously and the service was outstanding , unfortunately this was not the case this time, it is unlikely we will stay again , this was a treat for us, we had saved up our tesco vouchers and funds to make it a special trip, the Voco hotel in Edinburgh we stayed at on the Saturday really did provide a superior level of service . Virgin Hotels Edinburgh is a unique property in a great location with good facilities. The rooms are modern and clean but extremely small and our so-called castle view room looked out of the staircase of the building opposite with a distant view of Edinburgh castle if you stood in the corner of the room and looked diagonally through the small glass door! Although I appreciated the location, the room was very over-priced for the size and limited view. Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the visit though were the rather aloof and unhelpful staff. The front desk was usually manned by 2-4 people who stood and chatted among themselves but never interacted with us. They seemed more interested in looking cool than helping guests.Likewise the concierge always seemed to have 2 people standing there who were busy talking to each other but didn't greet guests. The one good interaction I had was with a barman / server in the Eve restaurant who was helpful and friendly and volunteered to carry our meal upstairs even though I came down to order in person. I was also helped by a member of staff after I left behind eyeglasses which needed to be mailed back to me. Overall I was disappointed by the stay.

Reason I gave it 1 star and would never go back is the neighbor "underbelly cowgate" next door which is an open air nightclub that starts THROBBING Teckno music at midnight and does not close down till 5 am. You will hear thumping base notes all night long without more than a 20 second break! Find somewhere else to stay if you value your sleep.

Second, the not so good: room design, quality of room finishing, layout of property, breakfast quality. Overall: this felt like a good four star hotel rather than a five star. We were in the smallest room category and had no complaints about the size, but the layout of the room and materials used in finishing the room fell far short of a five star experience. Funky hotel a minutes walk from the royal mile. Great service, nothing to complain about other that the noisy neighbours. Nightclub at the back had thudding music until 3am. By window had two sets of double glazing but it’s the thudding that reverberates the building and I was 8 floors up. Ask for a room at the other side of the hotel if you have trouble sleeping

Being in the center of everything, it was a bit noisy one of the nights because of a nearby club. However, the hotel was very accommodating and quickly moved us to another room. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The hotel itself has a nearly perfect location just off the Royal Mile. It’s a very cool and trendy hotel. We really love the design. There were two things that took away from the enjoyment of our stay. Firstly, every night we stayed at the hotel. There was a wildly loud wedding or party going on in the event space that lasted deep into the night that seriously disturbed the enjoyment of being able to sleep comfortably in the rooms. We had rented three rooms and all of them were directly up against the event space and it was really disappointing. Secondly, we died at the Commons club and unfortunately it was likely the worst experience of all the restaurants we enjoyed while in Edinburgh. The service was great. The ambience was perfect, but the food was just subpar. I would happily stay at the hotel again and request a room much further away from the adjoining church venue and simply take a pass on the commons club for eating. The staff were super friendly and always helpful and the vibe of the hotel is really special. I hate giving it anything less than a top review but having a comfortable place to sleep, that’s relatively quiet feels like it should be a necessity.

Fabulous hotel in a great location. Our room had a dressing room with separate rooms for toilet and shower and the most closet space I have ever seen in a hotel room! Wonderful breakfast that is worth the additional cost as it keeps you off the busy streets of the Royal Mile until later in the morning and includes a buffet and or menu items. Highly recommend.

Great location! Wonderful hotel with kind and attentive check in staff and concierge. My only complaint was the lack of attentiveness at their restaurant Eve. I ordered a drink from two different wait staff and never received it. Our original waiter completely disappeared. The food was great though. I would still recommend this restaurant with the hope that maybe it was just an off night

This is a very well run, busy hotel in the heart of Edinburgh. Easy walking distance to everything. Super helpful and pleasant staff. The rooms were exactly as presented in the pictures—really nice. The food in the Commons restaurant was top-notch. Highly recommend it. Only drawback was lack of storage in the rooms for a longer stay.

Service at the hotel was almost universally superb. The concierge and front desk were especially excellent. The only glaring exception was the breakfast service at the Eve restaurant. The service there was terrible.

We had a canceled flight TWICE and miss my flight to Barcelona TWICE I had called the hotel. They were NOT accommodating at all and refused to refund or change the reservation. They kept blaming Expedia but after speaking to Expedia, they let me know it was the HOTEL that refused to refund or make any changes for us, in which the management eventually admitted to. The hotel staff offered valet parking but they left my car on the curb past the bylaw hours, and I got a parking ticket as result. I was offered nothing in compensation.
