Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya - An Adults Only Karisma All-Inclusive Experience

Beautiful views, meticulously kept property, lots of great food options, great pools with swim-up bars. Room was airy and spacious with an ample balcony. Great spot for a group gathering. Only downside is that the location is a bit isolated — no easy access to anything outside the resort. Also, due to past hurricanes, there is no beach. The seaweedy sea comes right up to the break-wall. We would have enjoyed a walk on the beach and some all-inclusive beach-related activities like snorkeling and kayaking, but those are not available here.

If cheap and cheerful is for you this will fit the bill, but did leave a lot to be desired. Pros: - Very clean - Friendly staff - Restaurants that required a reso were decent. - gym was well equipt. - Chill Out spot for lunch was decent. Burgers are bad but tacos were good. -Salted Rim bar was nice. - Likes you got to stock your own fridge with snacks. Cons: - The food was terrible. Buffet was awful, Landshark restaurant was also bad. Only the lunch spot and the restaurants that required a reservation were decent. - vlVery difficult to get a reso at a restaurant. Even first day of arrival we were told there were 0 reservations until late at night. Then the restaurants would be empty. - Pool was falling apart. Big holes at the bottom covered with mats. - no beach (we knew this before we went but it wasn't transparent). - no entertainment at night. 2 dinner shows (they were decent but it was during dinner so hard to appreciate). Otherwise minimal entertainment at Landshark. - The room walls were VERY thin. Yiu can hear it all! We would not return.

excellent staff. clean room. delicious food and drinks. would come again. only thing is that the bars closed too early. it could be off peak season so hours are different. the buffet isnt open all day like other resorts. the best part was that they had their own brewery onsite!

No beach but the pool was good. Very clean throughout the facility. Staff were all friendly including Carlos Sanchez at the buffet restaurant. Wished steakhouse had more steak options than tenderloin but the quality was good. We had a great time overall especially at Land Shark for nightly entertainment.

We had the thermostat checked 3 times. The temp stayed at 64, with the fan off, it goes to 73 and stays that warm. No happy medium. The margarita's tasted off. Their mix was fresca. The coffee shop was great, but nothing opens til 8:00am, so if your an early riser, you'll have your coffee in your room. There is only a Keurig. Food was very good.The orange juice is the best ever!

Rooms were very clean, bright and beautiful. The pools were clean and well maintained daily. The drinks were varied and plentiful. They don't hold back on the alchol. The young lady who worked the last night of the the world series baseball game was extremely attentive and friendly. Lovely young lady served us again on our last night and did a wonderful job. Spa service was excellent! The ladies who did a massage for myself and my friend Debbie were excellent! Food was pretty good overall. It was such a good stay. All the staff were very friendly. Especially the waiters in the breakfast buffet. The girls in the coffee shop also all amazing! Concierge ws very helpful as well. I'm so bad with names and I'm exhausted from a long travel day but had to take a minute to thank all the staff we encountered.

Fabulous resort everything was awesome! Only a few downsides; There is no sandy stretch of walkable beach and not swimmable water, that was a downer. The entertainment listed wasn’t always on for example we looked forward to karaoke then it wasn’t on when we got to the bar same happened with the foam party scheduled then no foam party!

Clean rooms, excellent staff (especially Victor), and great food . Hydrotherapy was a great addition to our stay and all the staff were happy to help book any other excursions. I missed having a beachfront so I won’t personally return but if that’s not what you are looking for it’s great !

Most everyone was friendly and acted pleased we were there. One gal in the coffee shop had a bit of an attitude because I asked for cream after I received my coffee. Told me I should have ordered white coffee. Well I didn't know but thanks for reprimanding me. The pool was fun but toward the end of our vacation it was looking rough. Our floaties were covered in brown muck and my bathing suit was as well. By our swim up room there was brown stuff floating on the top. They finally cleaned it the night before we had to leave. The food was alright, I have had way worse at other resorts in Mexico. There was evening entertainment daily. The gal they had sing in Land Shark one evening was amazing and fun. All in all we had a great time!

Everything about this resort is awesome, everything is margaritaville for sure, every single staff member was so friendly even the ones just passing by.We do a lot of all inclusives & here the food was really good. Love that there is a brewery that was fun. the only thing I didn't like was the big pool by ocean had black slime on all the walls, felt like algae not sure if they were trying to shock it at night & wasn't working but we wouldn't go in it, good thing is there is another pool that didn't have anything on the walls, cant see ocean but quite & there is a swim up bar at that one too. over all we had an awesome experience, would go back.

At the moment of arrival you can tell how clean and well maintained the entire property is. The pools, room, bars, restaurants were all spotless. Crews constantly cleaning everything. We had such a great time, the food was varied, delicious and well prepared. The drink service both bar and poolside never left us wanting anything else. The entertainment was fun in the pools, yet we were able to relax and have peace and quiet in our swim up. We are thrilled that we chose to visit

If I had known that there is no beach access at this resort, I would not have booked it. I was specifically wanting beach time. Also, the pool walls have black algae on them, and the smell of seaweed will knock you over anytime your outside.

Wonderful stay overall! Entire property kept very clean, organized, plenty of pool options with multiple swim-up bars, and delicious food options, especially with the rotating dinner buffet menus at main Boathouse. Every single meal was tasty. The entire staff was incredible, every single employee worked very hard to provide amazing, friendly, attentive service every day (Laura, Luis, Antony, Yassiel, Jose to name a few...), everyone was amazing and very much appreciated. The staff truly made our first stay in Cancun/Riviera Maya memorable. We also enjoyed the show performers each night in the restaurants, and thought the rooms were very nice and comfortable. The all-inclusive package was worth every dollar very well spent. Thank you!

My only complaint was my room was freezing. I could not regulate my air conditioning all over. I was very pleased with the room the bathroom the facility was extremely clean and nice. Had a great time.

The room was not very sound proof. Our neighbors had domestics. The manager let them stay in their room with no regard to the fact we spent 3 of our 5 nights up until 4am. The front desk disregarded our concerns regarding the violent people next to us. The drink options are awful. We ended up purchasing our own drinks. Reservations for dinner are extremely limited. Most the staff was amazing, that was the only saving grace.

Room & resort as a whole was beautiful and very clean. The majority of the staff were pleasant. Although because it's so small the pools are on top of each other, and the music overlaps so you can't relax if you want to. The food was good, not always great but there is enough variety to always find something.

The grounds, pools, and restaurants were well done and the staff was nice. Strangely, the 5 o’clock Somewhere Swim Up bar closes at 5, despite the pool being open until 7. For the restaurants, the menus and restaurant options were limited. The best food was probably the tacos and ceviche at the License to Chill lunch place. Rooms are clean and tidy, but the swim-up suite wasn’t worth it because the water was so cold that it was unusable. Overall, it was a nice place. I’ve stayed at nicer, but I’ve also stayed at much worse.

I wouldn't stay here again. There are some wonderful staff, but also some really unhappy staff. The concierge basically didn't care about our experience. We were assigned to Febe but couldn't find her and the others (Humberto as one) wouldn't help us and spent our experience with him playing a game on his phone. At check-in we were PROMISED a late check out which they took back later which really screwed up our plans. I dont like being lied to. Also, this isnt a real all-inclusive resort. You need to pay for beer and non alcoholic drinks with points or money for the mini bar. Everything is an upgrade fee.. including the steak house a-la carte. There, they give you a menu of really expensive add ons to your meal. Even things at the gift shop were at gouge pricing. Heartburn medication (TUMS) were 15$ USD... more evidence that they dont care if you have a good experience. Another thing... if you request not to have your room cleaned by turning the light to red.. then please dont enter the room. Its absolutely intrusive. I definitely would never stay here again let alone join their points club. Dreams next door was much better. Riu in Cancun was better. The good things.. the rooms are really nice, resort is clean and designed well. Laura at 5o'clock somewhere was absolutely wonderful. The entertainment there was great too. Conclusion... find a better place to stay. We used our points and grabbed some beer to give away to the taxi driver.

The resort was very clean and well maintained. The dining options are limited, both the Italian and Steakhouse are only open on certain days. The Italian was delicious, we did not get to the steakhouse. The staff here was amazing. My rating would be lower without them. Christian (reception area) welcomed us with a warm smile & took care of us with my transportation mess up. He was super friendly and helpful. Aaron at Landshark was on top of our drinks and food, making sure we had the best service possible on each visit. We got to know each other a bit on a personal level which is awesome. It was a sad good bye when he came and found us across the resort on our last night together. We will miss "A A Ron" 😁 Marchello at the boathouse was another who also met us each morning with a warm welcome, asking us to sit near him so he could take care of us and talk a bit. I can still see his friendly smile. Eduardo at the 5 O'clock Somewhere bar was on top of his game. Calm personality, always knew our drinks and made them perfect! The entertainment staff is a great crew. We like to get involved, so got to spend plenty of time with them. Angelo, Quetzal, Mariel & Ozzy - thanks for that last volleyball game. To you and the rest of the entertainment staff, thanks for a great week! Up at the Chill bar the food was great. The tall slender guy who moves around quickly was also awesome. Sadly don't have his name. No beach, no big stage performances, but overall, great!

The resort is clean, beautifully designed/furnished, compact, easy to navigate/walk and up to date. The staff & service was awesome, accommodating and fun/engaging. Our room was on par with expectations. Restaurants - 4 restaurants. The Boathouse (buffet) Landshark (bar type food) a couple of poolside snack places, Italian & a Steakhouse. Here is where my issue is. The Italian & Steakhouse require reservations, made by your assigned concierge. Their hours are 8 to 4, so when we got in at 4.30pm we had to wait until the next day to meet with him and were only able to get 1 reservation in at 9.30 for the 5 days we were there, everything else was already booked up at both restaurants. We didn't come to a resort and pay all this money to eat buffet and bar type food for dinner 4 out out the 5 nights. So this was extremely disappointing. In Room mini bar - They only have water in the mini bar and give you points based on the number of nights you stay to purchase drinks and snacks at their store. .THIS IS VERY MISLEADING & a JOKE. The only drinks are Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Fresca. Gatorade is available for an extra charge. 4 types of chips/snacks you can use points on. But other snacks like candy bars, etc are extra. For alcohol, they have 3 or 4 beer varieties u can spend your points on, but hard liquor is an extra cost. We had 13k of points and were only able to spend like 2500 total. We were bugged about their 'vacation club" aka Time Share several times as well.

This was one of the funnest trips that I have had in a long time. Let me start with the staff; they were the friendliest, most helpful staff I have seen on a resort. I would like to give credit to Humberto, by the pool, and Noel and Gabino in the Boathouse for breakfast, and at lunch. The entire staff at the Boathouse was super nice, and I wish I had everyone else's name as well. Landshark was a lot of fun, the band/singers were great, and service as well. Thank you all for everything.

Overall, the rooms are good and clean, and the room quality is acceptable. However, the service is below average. By this, I mean the service culture is not disciplined or professional. If you do not tip or pay extra to the staff, you do not receive proper or consistent service. Considering the high price of this hotel, the service quality does not match what you pay. There is no direct access to the sea, which is a big disappointment. Also, there are not enough sun beds for guests. Even less than one-third of the hotel guests can find a sun bed. I went to the pool area at 7:30 a.m., and all the sun beds were already taken. The food is below average, with limited variety and taste. Drinks are just average, nothing special. Hotel amenities are also average and do not feel premium. The location is below average and not very convenient compared to other hotels in the same price range. Overall, this hotel does not offer good value for the money, mainly due to weak service, poor facilities, and lack of beach access.

Room was clean service was a little slow but always kind, pool was beautiful and for a smaller resort it was peaceful and perfect for me! Although I tripped on a mat and fell down the stairs and broke both my feet before we even checked in everyone was so kind and helpful!

Staff was lacking in helpfulness. Dinner options were a very poor selection. No open dinner reservations from the time we landed for our entire 6 day stay. Rooms were nice and they switched us to accommodate a nonworking toilet. Overpriced premium food and booze as well. Point system for snacks and drinks is a absolutely joke! I though an all inclusive was all inclusive!!!??? Took sports flags off our swim up without telling us and had to enquire about where it went to get it back. NOT recommend. Many much better all-inclusive's for the price!

Absolutely wonderful stay! The hotel was clean, comfortable, and in a great location—but what really made the experience exceptional was the staff. Jorge, Armando, and Ivan went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and taken care of. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and always had a smile. Would definitely come back just for the amazing service!

Beautiful resort. Staff was very friendly. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and enjoyed this resort very much. There were a few things that disappointed us, - no beach (which we expected) we are more pool people but it would have been nice to walk the beach. - The bars close too early, we met a few people there and wanted to continue drinking but landshark closed at 1am so we just sat outside and hung out but it would of been nice to have a few more drinks - The resort is in the middle of nowhere and you can’t just take a walk off the resort which we would of liked - We also went at the end of August where there’s a lot of seaweed and so the smell was very strong If this stuff doesn’t bother you, it’s a great resort. The pool was beautiful, drinks were flowing, food was pretty good and our room was stunning. & it was only a $10-$30 Uber ride to the city.

The best service and great spacious place to stay!

It's a lovely newer resort, very clean and well maintained. Our WestJet package didn’t include the airport transfer so we had to make last minute taxi arrangements at the airport. There is no beach, not all bars had international alcohol and some of the concierge team lost interest in helping us once we rejected the privilege club information tour.

Only reason for 4 stars: NOTHING around the property to walk to. No shops, markets, etc. You are literally in the middle of the trees with a few other properties. Everything would be a taxi/uber ride away. The property was amazing. Clean. Staff perfect! Good food. Hard to get in the 2 dinner places that require reservations.

Lots to unpack here. Smelly property, mildew and seaweed. Beach useable right now. Limited dining and entertainment options. Far from any excursion, shopping, and activities otherwise. Reapeated playlist at pools. In room switches and lighting will break up your relationship, if you’re not strong😆 Staff if great, resort is smaller than most but overall a ok place to stay. Very secluded, won’t be a repeat destination for me.

Love staying at Margaritaville’s resorts and this one is a beautiful resort with beautiful pools and bars. Rooms are great and restaurants and shows are very nice. Adults only was a plus. What I did not like? No beach!! Even it’s advertised. Big disappointment. Also, the roads to access the resort are very bad.

We had a nice time here for a week. Unfortunately theirs is no beach. Staff friendly , drinks and bar service good. Steakhouse was not good. Frank and Lola’s was excellent. Overall food was great.

The food is good, but lack of variety. Need to have more Asian food. Otherwise everything is perfect!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this property!! Positives: 1. This is the first ever resort that had captain Morgan rum, which we were SO excited about. It is typically the only liquor my husband and I will drink, and can only ever get it on cruises! 2. Every meal tasted good, the food at the wedding and steakhouse was GREAT! 3. Staff was super helpful and friendly 4. The room (King Paradise) was extremely nice, big and clean! It surprised our expectations for sure. 5. The pools and resort weren’t busy at all. We never had to fight for a lounging chair. Dining was easy. However, make sure to book your Italian and steakhouse spot right away! We missed out on Italian because we assumed we could do it last minute. 6. The coffee was really good for a resort!! Things we wish were better: 1. I felt like breakfast ran out of quality fruit every day and could have had a wider variety. 2. There was not a lunch buffet, so you would have to eat at the restaurant which took 1 hour one day, so we didn’t love that. We like quick food to grab and go during the day. 3. We knew this, but if you go July- September, it is a heavy seaweed season and you will smell it. However, we got pretty used to it. 4. Although there is no beach, we felt like on our 4 day trip we were good with the pools! 5. We wished there were more activities. We did not do any excursions due to limited time, so we can’t speak to how the resort handled such thing. We have nothing truly bad to say and would return!

The resort is immaculate! The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The buffet wasn’t very good as far as selection and availability of food was intermittent. The Italian restaurant was amazing, but the steakhouse was a big disappointment in the food category.

Limited food property and choices

The property was just ok, not many choices in terms of dinning. Every night no matter where we went to eat there was always many items on the menu that weren’t available! Then getting a reservation at the steak house or the Italian restaurant was almost impossible when it wasn’t even crowded at all. When we did dine there half the restaurant was empty but they say there’s no reservations available. Portions were very small. The steak house was just another money grab. You could choose from a very limited menu and what was on there was very below barge at best. That’s because they wanted you to buy there prime cuts that were outrageously expensive!! Overall staff was nice and the room was clean but definitely wouldn’t return nor would I recommend it!!
