Right in the heart of town; beach and restaurants just steps away. Friendly staff, check in and check out very easy. Parking with locked gate at night. Little loud at night, but expected due to location.

Property is in perfect location to everything and right across from the beach access. It’s great that it had parking! There is a coffee machine but no coffee, or cups. No beach towels and you are not allowed to take the bath towels to the pool or the beach. We knew this ahead of time and brought our own beachcomber towels. Lovely little property, had a nice cozy quaint feel to it, and we were on ground floor with sliding doors to little terrace and steps to the pool. Enjoyed our stay.

Nice place, friendly and helpful staff. The dogs are also just as friendly, polite, well trained, affectionate yet controlled, do not make disruptive noises like barking, whining or anything like that, and provide a sweet welcoming upon the arrival of guests (as far as my experience went as well as what I witnessed). Would stay again

Great location has the potential to be fantastic but fell short in many areas. The hotel has no ice. Really? Coffee maker on top of the microwave, no coffee, filters, cups or condiments. Sign over the coffee maker says Microwave is only to be used to reheat coffee and if it used for food that you will be charged $50!! Really? Towel are thin and horrible.

Hotel Mar Rey is in a great location. Close to beach, restaurants and bars and shopping. The pool and surroundings are beautiful. Hacienda style. The ranch kitchen by the pool was great. You could buy groceries and cook them on site. Andrey and staff were extremely helpful.

Basic hotel, No Food, No Ice Machine, but walking distance to everything needed. Little Italian cafe right outside the hotel, great coffee and breakfast. Secure, Front desk was helpful. Strong WiFi, free parking.

The 2nd floor room and balcony were clean and spacious! Comfortable king size bed. The air conditioning worked great. Big pool with outside cooking area. Very close to the beach with restaurants and shops within a few steps. Wished they would supply coffee in the room. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for a week in March and it was fantastic! The staff were INCREDIBLE, they live on site and they have a few pet dogs that free roam the property. It has a beautiful pool and is conveniently located right in the main area of town and literally just STEPS to the ocean. You’ll notice the reviews mention how noisy the hotel is because of its location and it definitely is noisy but it really didn’t bother us because we played so hard during the day we crashed hard at night and most of the bars and parties in the area wrapped up between 10pm-midnight. We would choose to stay here again, hands down.

Great location, room was always clean. Most comfortable bed of our entire holiday. Pool area is very nice. Older hotel and the street noise can be a bit much but was much quieter after Saturday. Very friendly staff and their dogs. Would stay here again.

This place was amazing! Literally on the main corner of the town, it was comfortable and welcoming after a hot day on the beach. We had a standard king that was on the bottom floor that opened out to the pool. It was very safe and contained. They locked the gates at night. Our bed was very comfortable with nice sheets and pillows. The walk in shower could fit a small family and there were ample cabinets for storage. There was a small fridge with ice in it which was wonderful. The decor was hand carved wood. We saw some negative reviews we want to refute. There was some construction noise during the day but we never heard our neighbors. Yes you need to bring beach towels but that’s normal at a hotel. There was a nice outdoor kitchen (pictured) where you could grill your own food. It’s in the middle of downtown but never seemed rowdy or unsafe. There was always someone on staff in the parking lot and entrance. The staff was incredible. The place was spotless. We are already booking another trip to stay here!

I loved the location of Hotel Mar Rey. It was close to everything. The estuary was a 15 minute walk and that was the furthest thing from me. The pool is clean, the shared outdoor kitchen is great, and the staff is very friendly. The hotel is older but they do a great job keeping it up. I would stay here again!

This hotel is in the heart of Tamarindo, which was the only benefit. The room was awful. We originally had a reservation to stay 4 nights but checked out and after one night because of the conditions. None of the doors have seals so the mosquitoes weren’t kept out. Our entire family woke up with bites all over us and mosquitoes flying everywhere. The rooms are outdated and not clean. I would consider this property more of a hostel than a hotel. Our family would absolutely not stay here again.

The hotel itself seemed run down. The pool was great and the property was well taken care of. The cleaning staff missed our room one of the 4 days despite us asking for someone to come and change out the garbage in the bathroom. The sheets on the beds had blood stains on them (evidence of previous bed bugs?). The hotel is on the Main Street and it was very loud with honking and traffic whistles most of the night. The proximity to the beach was great and convenient walk to many restaurants and shops. Overall not a great experience.

Location was the best. Walk to the beach in 3 minutes. Coffee Cafe, restaurants bars, live music, and a grocery store all around the hotel. The pool was surrounded by beautiful trees and plants making it feel tropical. The property was gated and fenced making us feel very safe. Our room was cleaned each day. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioner worked great, we slept good. We viewed other properties in the area for a future trip this fall. We will be staying at hotel Mar Rey! Thank you to the friendly staff who took care of our needs. See you in the fall, Pura Vida 🌴

The Mar Rey was convenient to everything. We’ve staying in Tamarindo many times and wanted to be on the beach this time. We did however end up leaving two days early. A few things … we were in the end room facing the parking lot and street. Which was quite noisy at night. We came back to our room one evening and there was a woman sitting on our patio who walked off the street to wait for her taxi. It was sorta unsettling having someone sitting at our door when we arrived back. She was nice and apologetic. There is security that sits there at night. We did not feel unsafe. Also be aware that the cleaning staff enters your room to clean without warning and I came back to use the bathroom after being at the pool and a lady was cleaning the room. We had all of our belongings out in the room. And I had to ask her to leave so I could use the bathroom. I didn’t feel like anyone was dishonest BUT we would have liked to be able to put our money and passports in safe before strangers entered. Would stay again just prefer a room inside the hotel complex not facing road.

I also loved the large balcony with view of the pool, private courtyard like setting, and outdoor kitchen. the rooms are simple and have all the basics plus small fridge and small microwave. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Note: The downtown area of Tamarindo is concentrated around one main road and a couple side streets. The entire area can be a bit noisy in the evening until midnight due to the music at open bars, motorcycles, and other motorists. Only the outskirts of the town seemed to be protected from this. It’s quite lively! For in-town options this hotel seemed to be one of the best.

There was a nice outdoor kitchen (pictured) where you could grill your own food. It’s in the middle of downtown but never seemed rowdy or unsafe. There was always someone on staff in the parking lot and entrance. The staff was incredible. The place was spotless. We are already booking another trip to stay here!

Spent five nights in Hotel Mar Rey. Loved everything about it. Perfect location in the center of everything and less than a minute’s walk to the beach. Nice relaxing private poor with plenty of seating. Gazebo covered outdoor kitchen with grille and electric range for preparing meals and nice outdoor dining area. Clean, comfortable and spacious room with strong AC and wifi and hot shower with high pressure. Friendly and attentive staff. Absolutely zero complaints. All you need in Tamarindo and then some at a fair price.

The Mar Rey was convenient to everything. We’ve staying in Tamarindo many times and wanted to be on the beach this time. We did however end up leaving two days early. A few things … we were in the end room facing the parking lot and street. Which was quite noisy at night. We came back to our room one evening and there was a woman sitting on our patio who walked off the street to wait for her taxi. It was sorta unsettling having someone sitting at our door when we arrived back. She was nice and apologetic. There is security that sits there at night. We did not feel unsafe. Also be aware that the cleaning staff enters your room to clean without warning and I came back to use the bathroom after being at the pool and a lady was cleaning the room. We had all of our belongings out in the room. And I had to ask her to leave so I could use the bathroom. I didn’t feel like anyone was dishonest BUT we would have liked to be able to put our money and passports in safe before strangers entered. Would stay again just prefer a room inside the hotel complex not facing road.

I like the pool, location, and cleanliness. The owners and their family live in the hotel. All their dogs are on site and unrestrained. They bark and awake the guests at night and in the mornings, early. My complaints to the owner were met with shrugs. Sleeping is a problem here. Even time by the delightful pool is disturbed. We stayed on the beach our last few days to get away from the constant barking. It was not like this last year. I love dogs, but I love my sleep and quiet on vacation. I will stay elsewhere when I return to Tamarindo in the future.

We stayed here for a week in March and it was fantastic! The staff were INCREDIBLE, they live on site and they have a few pet dogs that free roam the property. It has a beautiful pool and is conveniently located right in the main area of town and literally just STEPS to the ocean. You’ll notice the reviews mention how noisy the hotel is because of its location and it definitely is noisy but it really didn’t bother us because we played so hard during the day we crashed hard at night and most of the bars and parties in the area wrapped up between 10pm-midnight. We would choose to stay here again, hands down.

Property is in perfect location to everything and right across from the beach access. It’s great that it had parking! There is a coffee machine but no coffee, or cups. No beach towels and you are not allowed to take the bath towels to the pool or the beach. We knew this ahead of time and brought our own beachcomber towels. Lovely little property, had a nice cozy quaint feel to it, and we were on ground floor with sliding doors to little terrace and steps to the pool. Enjoyed our stay.

Hotel Mar Rey is in a great location. Close to beach, restaurants and bars and shopping. The pool and surroundings are beautiful. Hacienda style. The ranch kitchen by the pool was great. You could buy groceries and cook them on site. Andrey and staff were extremely helpful.
