Wombat's City Hostel London

Wombats was a great experience! Very clean and very comfortable. Highly recommended. The bar was fun in the evenings and I met folms from all over the world!

My first time staying at a Hostel. So i was skeptic. So I decided to book the 'higher end' 4 bed and still save big $ over a london hotel. I lucked out with great roomies. I was so impressed with the common areas. I didnt cook, but if i go back i will. Some of the dishes were so creative....looked and smelled amazing. Love the bar area too. Taking advantage of the optional and inexpensive locker storage was a huge help. I had a late flight and had time to sight see without having to lug the extras. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

The bedroom accommodations were excellent. Lock-up options in the rooms were included in the price (i.e. no need to rent or purchase a lock which I've had to do at other hostels): a large locker at the room entrance and a small code-operated locker in the bed itself. Beds all also included a small personal fan which was lovely to have and definitely makes the rooms more accessible to all bodies. Rooms were spacious with well-kempt toilets and showers each in the rooms themselves instead of shared facilities outside of the rooms. The shared kitchen was excellent to have and helped me reduce costs for food and also socialize. The kitchen gets very messy though and isn't cleaned out nearly enough - seems like it's just allowed to get as dirty as it gets naturally throughout the day with no concern to it being a shared space for many people (definitely needs more intentional effort to get in and clean out the sinks, put away dishes, clean out shared fridges, etc.). Overall very happy with my stay.

Never stayed in a hostel and will definitely consider this again. We had a good stay and the bar area is amazing!

Fantastic hostel. Clean facilities, good safes, many amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere. The hangout areas were a special plus. My only critique is that the washing machines should have better instructions, because I accidentally had to pay extra since I didn’t understand them. Besides that, incredible time :-)

The hostel is in the perfect location of Central London. Makes it easy to get anywhere by transit, walking or taking a bike. The rooms were good and everyone was very respectful. The cafe and bar were great which created a very welcoming place for a solo traveler to meet new people. Will stay again in the future.

Our room was quite simple, but it was surprisingly spacious, which made our stay comfortable. The bathroom was freshly renovated and was clean and modern. Unfortunately, the elevators in the building were out of service during our stay, which was a bit inconvenient (our room was on the 3rd floor, the building had 6 stories). On the positive side, the shared kitchen was well-equipped, making it easy to prepare meals. The staff was polite and helpful throughout our stay, and having a self-service luggage storage option was definitely a plus.

Since my last stay they’ve added curtains to all beds as well as a fan and a safe in each bunk. Only pitfall is the rooms can be quite stuffy depsite the fans. Card swipe for entrance, door room, and you use it to access your locker as well. Bathroom is solid for a hostel, shower warms up quickly however doesn’t get very cold if you’re wanting to cool down. Continental breakfast is solid, you can make toasties, they have little porridge cups, and a coffee machine amongst other bits and pieces. Bar downstairs is great, always lively. People that stay hear are lovely too, could defs solo travel here. Staff are fantastic and quickly resolved any issues, chatty as well when you check in which makes you feel welcome. Location is close to tower bridge so you’re on the east side, but two tube stops are 10 minute walks away and it takes about 10-15 more minutes on the tube to get to all the main sights and attractions in central London. However, the location is close to Shoreditch and Brick Lane vintage market, onky short walks away. Plenty of supermarkets nearby as well. 100% recommend staying here :)

This place and its people are an absolute gem. I am a middle-aged female solo traveller who doesn’t want a party hostel vibe in the actual dorm. I booked a bed in a 6-bed female dorm and had a great experience. They have security doors to stop corridor loitering and well-planned room design so there was never anyone waiting for a shower/wc/wash station. Plus big opening balcony windows so ventilation was perfect even on hot nights. The bed was comfy with well thought out features such as blackout privacy curtains, safe, fan, shelf, light and plugs including usb all inside your private space. They have 2-bed bunk beds versus the 3-level beds other London hostels cram in. They had great sized private lockers that work with your room key so no need for an extra lock. The hostel amenities are excellent including a clean new laundry with abundant machines, restaurant for breakfast, café, quiet work space, excellent wifi, towel hire and towel and sheet switch whoever needed, umbrella loan etc. Every detail has been though about. The reception, cafe and cleaning staff were 10/10 wonderful people, helpful and friendly who all went beyond an expected level of service and had great attitudes about everything. The location is unbeatable with several tube stations around, attractions, shops, supermarkets etc This would 100% be my first choice to return to in the future. Thank you Wombats for a perfect stay.

I had the best experience at wombats!!! The staff were lovely, the rooms and the areas were always clean and comfortable, even with shared room, we had privacy. I went there as a solo girl and the area were safe to walk alone at night. I felt always safe. There are two options of tube stations near the hostel and they are both good. I don’t think it’s a good idea to buy the breakfast at the hostel because there’s not a lot of options. But that was not an issue at all. If I go back to London, I will 100% stay at wombats again

It was my first time staying in a hostel and this was such an amazing stay! The rooms were clean and we had housekeeping everyday! This will be my go to spot every time I stay in London! It’s a fairly quiet are (minus your usually cars passing by) and the fellow residents are respectful when it comes to quiet time. There is a buffet for breakfast and it was quite enjoyable!

Wombats was a lovely place to stay. I always try to come to London on a budget and never stayed in a hostel before. I chose Wombats as I seen the reviews but also the bunks having privacy curtains was really good factor. The room could have been cleaner as I noticed some dust and dirt around the room. I stayed in a 6 female only dorm and it was alright, everyone was respectful and the extra sink area was used a lot by myself to allow the other guests use of the main bathroom. The hostel facilities were good, I had a drink in the bar one night and used the coffee only breakfast option. I noticed the hostel didn’t offer many social events, I am quite a shy person but it would have been good to have more social events around the day. The location is really good, it’s a 7-10 min walk to either Tower Hill or Aldgate East tube station but the area wasn’t too bad. The bed was good, the mattress was a bit uncomfortable at times but I still slept well. I would happily stay here again and make use of the rest of the facilities.

Amazing hostel! Very clean. Love the fact that you can have a curtain and lamp in each bed. One of the best hostels I have ever stayed! Totally recommend it.

I was here for a very short one night. The property was beautiful I felt very safe. The location was good you are about 10min walk or less from 2 train stations and maybe 15-20 from the Crown Jewels. The room was nice I was in a 6 bed room girls. You get a bed and a locker that is opened and closed with your key card. The are curtains on the bed and a personal fan inside each bed as well as an additional safe. I like the design of the bathrooms as well. Two sinks one inside a closed door sharing space with a shower and the other in the open space. And additional door leads to the bathroom. I bumped the rating down for things I probably should not blame them for but I am. It was very hot in there. I didn’t use my personal fan because it was covered in dust and I already struggle with allergies. The “Luggage Storage” was an up charge 6 pounds 24hrs so not bad. The coffee bar was very VERY limited on food options and the water they had out was not good. However there are grocery/convent stores near buy so I bought a water. There were food options but no chain restaurants that I recognized (coming from an American). OHHH worst part about my stay was the train. Even though the station is a 10 minute walk from the hostel the is a train on a bridge near by that I seat came by every 30 minutes and it was so LOUD! I am not a light sleeper but it made it difficult to fall asleep. If you are a light sleeper I doubt you would get any sleep here.

Beds are AWFUL! It’s a 4 inch thick light weight foam pad on top of a metal slat bed frame. I couldn’t sleep all night even though u was trashed from going out. My back was ruined the next day. Besides the bed the property was spectacular. The bar is great for meeting people and the facilities are clean.

Awesome stay! My ONLY complaint is that the bed is not very comfortable at all.

I have never had a bad experience in the hostel like this, the building behind the railway and my room face to the street, there was so much noise all day, I couldn’t sleep whole night! It’s absolutely not worth of the money!

wombat's city is the most complete hostel i stayed in europe. they have everything: common areas, kitchen, laundry, a vending machine, a cafe, and an amazing internet connection that actually works inside of the dorms (had problems with that in other hostels i stayed). however, it's a bit pricey, under a train station (i could hear the train from my dorm), and the area is a bit sketchy after dark. you'll also have to walk quite a bit to find a supermarket and metro station. and the cafe is extremely overpriced. seriously, go eat somewhere else. literally anywhere. finally, keep in mind that it's a very youngish place, with a lot of young guests that lack basic common sense.

The hostel is nice. The atmosphere is inviting. The staff is ok. Some are kind, some aren’t. The worst part about the hostel is there is no air conditioning. The rooms you stay in are like a sauna. You go to bed sweating and wake up throughout the night COVERED in sweat. Made it nearly impossible to get a good nights sleep.

This was the ideal hostel for me. Having built in curtains for each bed added a fantastic bit of privacy, plus a safe, outlet, and fan for each bed on top of the lockers was perfect.

I was recently on a trip that I ended up staying at multiple different hostels and this one was hands down the best for comfort. The location is a bit out of the way but easy enough to get to a train station or walk over towards Tower Bridge. But the room spacious as well as the ensuite shower and toilet. Having the lock box in the bed made it easy to have my phone and other belongings I wanted close right there. The bed was comfortable and the personal fan and bed shade were nice touches. I 100% would and will stay here again on my next visit to London.

Had the BEST stay at wombats. The staff were friendly and helpful, even let me do laundry after my checkout time. Stayed in an 8 bed dorm and each bed comes with a fan and safe, which was a huge plus as it got quite muggy in the room. If there were wombats locations to where I'm travelling next, I'd be staying there for sure. The location is great with Tower Hill station a 5 min walk away and lots of local pubs in the area. Super accessible. Would happily return!

Room was quiet and orderly, facilities were very functional and clean. Its a short walk from the Tower Bridge and close to a tube line. As far as nightlife there’s not much immediately surrounding the hostel.

The property was very close to the London tower and had quite a few restaurants within walking distance. Although transportation was a bit far from the hostel, I felt it was still easy to reach and it was easy to get around the city. The room was also very clean and nice, I really enjoyed having privacy curtains and big lockers in the room. There were also many events happening so it’s easy to meet people. Overall a great place to stay if you’re solo traveling!

Large rooms, great shower area, large locker, great receptionist and common area. Walkable to some attractions. Location doesn't feel the safest especially at night.

Overall, it’s a great hostel. Quite modern and the best thing is the location because it’s very easy to get public transportation from nearby and is just a few mins walk to Tower Bridge. Earlier, I was a bit worried how will I sleep without AC but the fans helped and it was much better than my expectations. Overall, I wish I was able to connect with a lot of travellers, maybe group walking tours or something like that could’ve helped.

The hostel was amazing. Nice environment with everyone sharing common areas. Place is respectful with noice policies. The area is not very safe to walk around, but you're close to principal attractions so it compensates one with the other one.

It was a great surprise for my first hostel experience. Spacious room and clean bathdroom also, I liked the organization of the building. Its not nearby of city centre but there is a bus stop and subway on the same street. I really go back again!

The price was great. It was very convenient for our event at the Tower of London. The breakfast was very good value for money. All round an excellent overnight stay.
