Hotel de la Monnaie, French Quarter

We had a great stay over the weekend. The room fit our group and we were fortunate to get a parking space through the hotel. The hotel is very close to a lot around.

No workout space, false advertising. Just a closet with an elliptical. Parking is super difficult unless you rented a civic. The doors are really skinny, not to code.

The property was in a good location for us as it was on the edge of the French Quarter and away from a lot of the action. It was next to a stop for the red streetcar which was very handy when it was working. Employees were very nice and accommodating. Property had garage parking which was great. The room was a nice size for an extended stay.

Our stay here was fantastic. The hotel is cute, staff is amazing, and location was great! There is a nice patio on the second floor open to all guests. We loved sitting out there in the evenings. Also, outside of the rooms there are tables and chairs facing the courtyards. We spent a lot of time there as well. Rooms are spacious and having the little kitchenette was great!

Convenient to French quarter. Welcome and checkout staff very friendly and accommodating. Clean. Felt safe as leaving and entering were closely monitored. Gym equipment not working. It appears that the fountain was a makeshift “pool”. Terrace was wonderful as a ”hanging out space”. Furniture dated, some requiring repair. Great place to stay for travelers looking for low budget accommodations!

We had an amazing stay for the Mardi Gras festivities. The room was larger than expected. The staff was helpful and polite. My only negative was I had to pay an additional 200$ for parking because there is little parking at the hotel itself.

The location was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The suite was clean and had everything we needed. And the water pressure - awesome! Lol. Also the rooftop was really a plus. We would definitely chooae your hotel for our ne t cisit to NOLA

The stay was wonderful. Delila at the desk - AMAZING. HELPFUL! And those decorations were on point! (For Halloween). The bed in our rooms were not very comfortable - other than that, the room was spacious and comfortable for our small family. The hotel is quiet inside and no one disturbs you. I loved the fact that no one can enter the building or the parking garage without staying at the hotel as well, brought a feeling of safety close to the French quarter. It’s not fancy. The pool is small. But for us, neither of those things were important. It was clean and safe and homey and the staff was pleasant. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking and will definitely be bringing my family back to stay again!

The hotel is a bit older, so there are some things to be aware of. The pool is not heated so it's very cold so you probably won't be doing a lot of swimming. The water tanks aren't very big so for those people who like to take long showers this is not the hotel for you. But on the plus side the location is absolutely perfect it's very close to Frenchman Street and the French market and getting around is very easy because the streetcar stops right there at the end of the line and you're right near the Mississippi River so you're not far from taking the ferry across to Algiers. The front desk ladies were amazing and very helpful. I will be staying again.

Very convenient to Frenchmen Street entertainment, the quarter, and all major tourist sites. A little dated, but very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very nice older property. Rooms are dated, but clean. Great location to go watch the parades that roll through the Marigny. Always good to have a close bathroom during parade time.

Stayed for my daughter’s birthday. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions/concerns. Hotel was in walking distance to the French Market and Bourbon Street.

The location of this hotel is ideal! By the river and French market, next to the cross Quarter streetcar, and at the base of Frenchman, Esplanade and Elysian Fields. Quiet, with only the drone at night of river traffic motors. We loved this as a base of operations. The kitchenette, sitting room, one bedroom suite was clean, but very worn looking. The blinds and curtains were in need of replacement. Bed was comfortable and the other furniture is serviceable. The kitchenette was appreciated as it allowed us to refrigerate and reheat our leftovers from all the fabulous restaurants in the French Quarter. The staff are all friendly and helpful and we were never concerned about safety. I would recommend this hotel IF you are planning on spending the majority of your time exploring the city as we did.

So disappointed and dismayed! As a seasoned and experienced world travelers, I would say that this was a "strikeout" attempt. Conditions: Poor There is a difference between historic and just not maintained. The property and room was grossly subpar and unmaintained. The furniture was old, faded, and smelled. Cleanliness: Poor The room and properly appears to not be thoroughly cleaned. From stains on the carpets to dust bunnies in the corners. Quite disgusting to be honest. Staff: Poor and very unfriendly Come on....this is New Orleans. It should be an enjoyable trip. Well it was outside of the $500 paid for 2 nights in this "roadside truck stop" style hotel. It was shameful how unprofessional and unpolished the staff was. Cost: Extremely poor Do not waste your money. I am a Hilton and IHG rewards member, I paid more to stay here based on false advertisement via photos and possibly fake reviews. I paid $500 for 2 nights in a hotel that the quality equated to a truck stop motel. It ruined my trip. I should have stayed at the other big chain hotels. Other: The property is so dated and subpar Simply. Its run down. Broken elevator, leaking roofs, poor water quality, smells, cracks in door, poor wifi, and more. Do not stay here!

An older funky property. Very convenient to Frenchman's St. And the French market. Hotel was clean and the staff very accomodating.

Although the staff were incredibly kind... there is not a lot of parking available. The water heater must be really small too because we had to take cold showers. The room had a weird smell and the rooms are very small.

This was our 3rd stay. Location is perfect. It is in a quiet spot close to Frenchman St., the French Quarter, French Market, Street car stop. Room was very spacious. Oh and we love the balcony overlooking Esplansde.

Great location, within walking distance of the French District. Quaint hotel with interior courtyard and second floor balcony. Felt safe with locked front door. Was woken up by freight train whistle at 5:30 in the morning. Train tracks across the street. But this also offers the convenience of the streetcar stop across the street. You accept one thing for the other.

Very easy access to French Quarter and Frenchmen street. Third floor and never had noise issues. 2br unit gave us space but the sofa bed was like laying on springs. Only other complaint would be that it would have been nice to open the windows or at least the blinds more so.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. It was reasonably priced for superbowl weekend. Hotel is definitely in need of some updating, beds were old and uncomfortable.

One of the reasons I got the room was because of a “Jacuzzi tub”. Sure, that tub did theoretically exist in the room, but in function it might as well not have. The tub it was the size of a large Tupperware container. Perhaps intended for a gnome of Halfling, And the available hot water was not enough to fill 4 inches. Unfortunately 4 inches was well under the Jacuzzi Jets and therefore the tub was not functional. Annoying.

We stayed In room 212 from 7/03/2025-7/06/2025 for the 4th of July weekend the staff was friendly and helpful with our first time to New Orleans the hotel was nice but for the price we paid it could have been better even on the holiday weekend our room unit the fridge didn’t stay closed and it wouldn’t hold temperature at all and was off level and the stove top only heated in the center so it wouldn’t get the pan to hot and the A/C unit wouldn’t keep the room cool in the day time.

More of an apartment than a hotel room, with 2 bedrooms, bathroom, sitting room, and even a small kitchen. Courtyard setting was very welcoming. Extremely friendly staff. No food or bar available but you’re welcome to bring in if you wish. Just a few steps from the French Market and 1/2 mile from Jackson Square, but not bothered by any noise from Bourbon Street.

I booked this because of the high ratings. The property is older and not updated. The door to our unit was wide open when we walked up to enter. The AC did not work. The receptionist was very rude. We disembarked a cruise ship and went straight there. Our goal was to simply leave luggage, give them our credit card and let them know we are out for the day and won’t be back until late. The reception was very cold. As we left our luggage in the room adjacent to the lobby, we lined it up and tried to take up as little room as possible. I attempted to get specific instructions on where and how to leave the luggage. She couldn’t be bothered to answer. Then she came in 10 minutes later and berated us about how the luggage was left. Apparently you block the desk and computer not the unmarked door?? As we left the foyer, she was on the phone raging about all the people who show up before the 4:00 check in. Couldn’t we read? We were obviously bothering her. She was loud and unfiltered all over that lobby. This is the first property on this site that I was very disappointed in. The rating is way off imho.

Spontaneous side trip to New Orleans with the family - the staff was friendly and accommodating. The hotel s beautiful and historic - would stay there again in a heartbeat!

We had a fantastic and safe stay at the hotel during Super Bowl week. Susan was amazing in accommodating us and making everything possible. I'll definitely be back!

Location is perfect. Just in the border of the french quarter, has the peace n quiet in the evening, close to frenchman avenue for unending jazz music, safe and colorful marigny neighborhood. The hotel itself is dated, worth the stay, average service. We love to walk and it was wonderful to also checkout marigny neighborhood.

For the value, location, attentive staff, and historic character of the building, this hotel is truly hard to beat. It strikes the ideal balance: close enough to everything that matters, yet just far enough removed to provide a quieter, more relaxed experience. The hotel is about an 8-minute walk from the French Quarter, giving you easy access without being in the thick of the late-night noise. Even better, it sits right between Frenchmen Street and the French Market—only 2 minutes in either direction, or about 4 minutes to walk from one to the other. This made it effortless to explore both the nightlife and the local culture without needing to arrange transport. Transportation couldn’t be easier. The local trolley line runs directly across the street along the waterfront. In less than 10 minutes you’re at Jackson Square, the river paddle boat docks, or the Grey Line tour hub. Continue another few minutes and you’ll reach Harrah’s Casino and the Aquarium. Having that option right at the doorstep was a huge convenience. On quieter days, simply crossing the street brought us to the New Orleans Jazz Museum—a wonderful spot for music lovers—or we could just enjoy downtime in our room. We stayed in Room 508 on the top floor, facing both the city and the river, and the view was worth every penny. The only small trade-off was the occasional sound of a railcar passing by late at night or early morning, but they were quick and never enough to disturb our overall rest.

2 couple traveling for Mardi Gras. The location was fantastic, had beignets almost every day at cafe de monde. Frenchman street is like a little bourbon street. Absolutely wonderful music. They have a wonderful weekend art festival from 6pm-midnight. And the food on Frenchman fantastic. All this local flavor makes the position of this hotel a hidden gem. The decor is festive and local. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and well stocked. House keeping were friendly and took good care of us. Everything was in working order and in good condition. The terrace is a wonderful way to spend mornings and evenings. We really enjoyed our stay.

The truth is, crime is an issue in NO. H Monnaie has locked front doors and gates on the garage. Once inside, feel secure. Staff are excellent. Be glad you are on the edge of the excitement. There are great places to go just steps from your front door. There is a fantastic street full of music right up the road, or venture a bit farther to Bourbon St. where the young people do their thing, and older people try to remember being young. Yes, there is great food and music everywhere. There will be something for you to be sure. The biggest problem I had was the room was so amazing, I almost didn't want to leave. I think I had the strangest room in the hotel, but it was utterly wonderful. If you can adapt and enjoy things you can't anticipate, NO will be a place of great experiences and memories to last your lifetime. H Monnaie is a place I will never forget.

Great location to explore The Quarter and Frenchman’s St. Street noise and train noise somewhat of an issue. And no breakfast and not much close by for breakfast.

Ideal immediatelly by the French quarter, but this place needs lots of work and love to make it to todays standards. Also no breakfast available.

A stone's throw to Frenchmen Street and an easy walk to the French Quarter. For light sleepers though, it's also very near the train station, which is in operation even at night. If you love coffee, bring some. We were only given 2 packets for a 3 night stay in a 2 bedroom suite. When we requested for more the next afternoon, we were told it cost $2/packet. Also, check the hotel website against third party sites. We paid roughly double the hotel rate and found out about it upon riding the hotel elevator. The rate was posted there.

The location of this place was perfect! 1/2 block from frenchnan street if you want to go to the party but if you want to avoid the crowd you can sit on the balcony and still enjoy the music while looking out at the river. Only a stones throw to the french market and some great shopping stores. Diffrent restaurants all nearby and close enough to the burbon street party but far enough that you can get away. Right across the street from the french market trolly station to get where ever you want to go. Great staff. Only negatives are they limit your coffee and charge for any additional and in the night the room got chilli and heater wasn't working.. free parking was awesome, after we arrived for 5 days and didn't need to move the car since everything was in walking distance and the tour buses picked us up right there for the tours highly recommend best deal for the buck!!

Great front desk staff in this charming hotel. It was near the train line, so horns can be heard but it wasnt unexpected and we loved the convenience of the kitchenette for leftovers. Walkable to both the French Quarter and Frenchman street food areas.
