The first problem was with the booking through hotels.com I was sure I had ticked the box to say we wanted breakfast but when we arrived apparently we had paid for the room only, If so the room only rate was relatively expensive compared with others available at the time and I would certainly have booked one of those in preference. Bu the worst thing was the breakfast shenanigans itself. When I was told we had not paid for breakfast I asked how much it was to add it on but the only person around said they did not know. She offered to ask the duty manager who was coming on shortly but we were going out so it was arranged (or so I thought) that it could all be done in the morning. Fine. Not fine. Breakfast is supposed to be served between 8 and 10 am We came in at 8.45 and we were told we could not have breakfast as there was only one person on and breakfasts had been prepared in advance for those who had it included in their booking. Apparently it was too difficult to do any more. BIt stange because as far as I could see there were only 3 or 4 tables laid up and 2 of those had already been served. and there was still 1 hour and 15 minutes until service was supposed to end. The accessible room itself was OK, on the ground floor as you would expect. It is right next to the road and there was some traffic noise which woke us up from around 5am so probably not a great choice if you are a light sleeper.

I had a lovely room, I was surprised breakfast wasn’t included/offered. Staff were friendly but I couldn’t get internet which may have been just me. I was on my own and wanted to plan my next day, couldn’t even get 4G. Not even in the bar. Young lady said it was a bad area??!! Plenty parking and lots of people eating so food must be good. I just had (a very small) portion of chips.

We had a lovely stay ....staff accomodating ....rooms modern comfy bed and pillows .Gorgeous white towels and complimentary Bramley products . Only one gripe ..couldn't get o. The wu fi easily and the plug socket didn't charge my phone ..which was a problem for the next day as no charge left . Also no Sunday dinner service but I think that's usual these days for country pubs .Other than that very nice place to stay ..easy reach of Sidmouth
